Any effort possible to avoid spoilers in terms of torch lighting for those weirdos who don’t get to watch the opening ceremonies live would be appreciated (weird that we live in the same flippin’ time zone where they are happening)

These opening ceremonies are pretty awesome. Each hosting city, tries to beat the previous one’s effort. With the 4 year advance on technology, they usually do.

Here are a couple of Brave tidbits I have heard the week before Spring Training. DOB can add his two cents on if he has heard these things as well if he is interested. I found all of these things interesting.

1. Tim Hudson is throwing the ball extremely well and expects to one of the top pitchers in the NL this year.

2. The Braves are content with their current outfield and have had an interest in Damon to add leadership and lead off ability only if the price dropped into the right level. In other words it was going to have to all break perfect like Abreu did last yeat for LAA.

3. If the Braves had signed Damon it was going to have affected Melky and Diaz much more than Heyward. The Braves right now plan to have Heyward starting in RF unless he fails or gets hurt in ST. If Heyward breaks camp with the Braves expect a big marketing campaign involving him in April.

DOB or anybody that has been to Spring Training. I am going to Dark Star during spring training and was wander when was the best time to come to the stadium to possibly meeat players and get a few autographs? I’ve seen the info posted in years past, but have not been able to go until now. I’ll be there from March 15th to 19th. I believe they play the Marlins on the 16th and the Tigers on the 19th.

The Damon deal may be a dumb one but it does point out one thing – The Tigers have a single owner, who cares about his teams ( Tigers and Red Wings) and cares about his city. We used to have that here with Ted T. However we now have a out of town corporation as an ownership. Dumb ownership who do not care about the product but about profit.

——-

How long do you think Atlanta would have a team if they lost money all the time?
For that matter how long could any company continue operating without making a profit?

glord1

Allen – The braves are one of the tougher teams to get close to for autographs in ST. The stadium is like a mini MLB field with the dugout being the entrance to the club house. That means the players do not have to walk by the fans very much. My experience if the best place to get close to the Braves players are in fields like the Astros, Pirates and Blue Jays. Those teams ST home fields give you tremendous access to both visiting and home players.

I have heard their are better chances to get Brave players on the pactice fields at Disney but have never had much sucess doing that once games start in the Spring.

There’s a dichotomy, in your time zone, that I don’t understand. You may or may not either.
If the Dodgers are playing in the east at 7:00, they show the game out there live, correct? At 4:00, most people are either still working, just getting done, or fighting traffic. Personally, I would rather they tape-delayed it.
However, there are live events, such as this, that are delayed. Why? Do they figure that a lot more people don’t want to miss any of the olympics, than the first several innings of the Cali. baseball teams?

This is the south and it is in the best interest of the employees to close early on a snow day. The costs of accidents, stranded children and slick roads is just not worth it and it’s plain consideration. Employers never get to big or power players to disregard the safety and families of the employees. People that make these decisions to close early have to look beyond their own selfish wants and show compassion for others. When one only look within for what’s for themselves they can’t see that others are important too.

They did predict this snow storm all week and cautioned this morning that it would hit around noon and hit hard. So?
