Just to show that all the idiots aren’t concentrated here on the Braves Blog, here’s a Tigers fan.

papmsu1 says:

This has to go down as the worst trade Dave Dombrowski ever made…Jurrjens for old, slow, pitiful fielding, weak bat Renteria. With Jair in the Tiger rotation last season, they win the division with 2 weeks left in the season and have a formidable playoff rotation of Verlander, Porcello, Jurrjens and Jackson.

Yeah, Renteria was horrible. He hit .332,OBP.390, SLG.470, OPS.860 along with playing a solid SS, stealing 11 bases and 12 HR’s. Renteria may very well have been the Braves MVP that year. While JJ is a great young talent, plenty of Braves fans were sorry to see Renteria go, me included. He’s just a NL SS.

Jurrjens had the MRI late this afternoon, but won’t know results until tomorrow when the doctor goes over the picture — the scan — with him.

Braves don’t seem nearly as stressed as a lot of fans are, to be honest. They insist it’s just precautionary and they don’t believe it’s a significant injury.

We’ll know tomorrow.

BASteve, this whole conversation on Hanson developed from our favorite accountant pontificating that the Hanson delay was strictly a money decision, to which I replied, “horsebleep”, LOL. It’s the “strictly” to which I objected. His early spring performance had at least as much to do with the decision.

As to whether Hanson would have been preferable to Reyes in April, I’m with you. But I think he would not have been preferable to the Hanson we saw once he arrived. I tend to think he would have taken some big-league pounding in April and May, and who’s to say how he reacts to going, say, 1-4? Probably not as well as he did working through his issues in the minors, while still being successful. There, it was no harm, no foul, keep taking your shots until they start droppin’. He did, and once he made The Show, he was nothin’ but net.

If he becomes the monster everybody expects, the arbitration thing probably becomes moot, anyway. Just money-whip him until he says “Yes”.

Poetic Justice would be:

Scott Boras and the Tigers “moving forward” to a point where the Tigers drop their offer (if there truly is an offer). Now Johnny’s agent passes on a 2 year for 14 million from the Yankees and now a similar offer from the Tigers, only to “settle” for a 4.5 million 1 year offer from the Braves!

Sounds like Johnny needs a new agent!

I see the nl east shakin out like this,

1.Philadelphia– too much firepower and Halladay makes them better. If Hamels bounces back than they’ll be WS bound again. The question for them is– can Rollins bounce back after a somewhat disappointing ‘09 campaign?

2.Florida– solid pitching to go with a pretty dangerous lineup. Coghlan will make them even better this year. Their pen is a big concern however which is why I see a NL West or Central team take the Wild Card.

3.Atlanta– solid pitching, but just not enough offense and they too have a suspect pen at the back-end.

4.New York– not much after Santana in the rotation, but a strong lineup and solid defense. Rotation and middle relief are big question marks.

5.Washington– they’ll be better and might even challenge New York for 4th place, but their defense and rotation is a question mark.
