That sounds like a personal problem. They only play like 3 or 4 games out there though, right?
RHR is a girl? I could have been creeping ALL this time. Sigh.
February 16th, 20107:20 pm
Just to show that all the idiots aren’t concentrated here on the Braves Blog, here’s a Tigers fan.
February 16, 2010, 9:54 AM ET
This has to go down as the worst trade Dave Dombrowski ever made…Jurrjens for old, slow, pitiful fielding, weak bat Renteria. With Jair in the Tiger rotation last season, they win the division with 2 weeks left in the season and have a formidable playoff rotation of Verlander, Porcello, Jurrjens and Jackson.
Yeah, Renteria was horrible. He hit .332,OBP.390, SLG.470, OPS.860 along with playing a solid SS, stealing 11 bases and 12 HR’s. Renteria may very well have been the Braves MVP that year. While JJ is a great young talent, plenty of Braves fans were sorry to see Renteria go, me included. He’s just a NL SS.
You’re noble for defending him. jeffrey d
I think I’ve decided to give up being nice for Lent. That whole “Southern Hospitality” thing is starting to get old, don’t you think?
Jurrjens had the MRI late this afternoon, but won’t know results until tomorrow when the doctor goes over the picture — the scan — with him.
Braves don’t seem nearly as stressed as a lot of fans are, to be honest. They insist it’s just precautionary and they don’t believe it’s a significant injury.
We’ll know tomorrow.
February 16th, 20107:21 pm
Settle down, grinch. I’m not a girl. I’m a soon to be 40 year old woman. That’s damn near nursing home eligible in the eyes of most around here.
RG – true – but San Diego is only a couple of hours away, and my daughter lives there. We’re also considering hitting San Francisco early on, And a trip to ATL is always a possibility…I could see my dog and the Braves…
February 16th, 20107:22 pm
Anders won’t sleep a wink.
RHR is a girl?
You’re a little slow to the party. Just remember that online rutting is only tolerated in small doses before a hardy reprimand will be given.
February 16th, 20107:24 pm
Let me know well ahead of time if y’all plan a trip to ATL, Jim so I can meet up with y’all.
BASteve, this whole conversation on Hanson developed from our favorite accountant pontificating that the Hanson delay was strictly a money decision, to which I replied, “horsebleep”, LOL. It’s the “strictly” to which I objected. His early spring performance had at least as much to do with the decision.
As to whether Hanson would have been preferable to Reyes in April, I’m with you. But I think he would not have been preferable to the Hanson we saw once he arrived. I tend to think he would have taken some big-league pounding in April and May, and who’s to say how he reacts to going, say, 1-4? Probably not as well as he did working through his issues in the minors, while still being successful. There, it was no harm, no foul, keep taking your shots until they start droppin’. He did, and once he made The Show, he was nothin’ but net.
If he becomes the monster everybody expects, the arbitration thing probably becomes moot, anyway. Just money-whip him until he says “Yes”.
February 16th, 20107:25 pm
You could even go to one of those dog at the park days. But still, My $6 ticket, $5 parking and half a gallon of gas sure seems much more reasonable.
February 16th, 20107:26 pm
And a trip to ATL is always a possibility…I could see my dog and the Braves…
VJ – I thought your dog was with you, no?
thanks for the update dob.
February 16th, 20107:29 pm
Heath – toss-up question on Pardon the Interruption – who will win more games, UK in the tournament, or the Nets the rest of the season?
Wayne in Utah
RHR A veritable “spring chicken” for some of us!
February 16th, 20107:30 pm
We’ll know tomorrow? Well, I wanna know now! Why do they have to be so suspicious? Stupid doctors always trying to delay something.
I won’t be around tomorrow to find out what Jurrens’ prognosis is, so I’d like to know now.
David O’Brien– who was being optimistic among the Braves personel? Was it Bobby Cox because he was also optimistic about Kyle Davies and JoJo Reyes and we all know they stink. Tell me, who’s the optimist around there?
February 16th, 20107:33 pm
I knew it. nathan gave away his bowl of sad, and it found its way around the table to Markus. Eat hearty, bub.
Black Keys Midnight in Her Eyes
February 16th, 20107:34 pm
We’ll know tomorrow? Well, I wanna know now!
Seriously? How old are you now?
February 16th, 20107:35 pm
RHR – of course
Soph – no – she is with my ex – we have discussed switching off and on when I next return. Also, some concern that Nala would have her as an appetizer…
Poetic Justice would be:
Scott Boras and the Tigers “moving forward” to a point where the Tigers drop their offer (if there truly is an offer). Now Johnny’s agent passes on a 2 year for 14 million from the Yankees and now a similar offer from the Tigers, only to “settle” for a 4.5 million 1 year offer from the Braves!
Sounds like Johnny needs a new agent!
February 16th, 20107:36 pm
That’s damn near nursing home eligible in the eyes of most around here. RHR
you’re welcome to stay in my nursing home any ol’ time you wanna youngun
February 16th, 20107:37 pm
Soph— uh I wasn’t even talking to you missy.
February 16th, 20107:39 pm
It’s a crime shame that some parents allow their teens to dabble on the internet!
VJ – aha, that makes sense now. I was wondering why we hadn’t heard anything about Nala and Yumi’s adventures together.
Soph— uh I wasn’t even talking to you missy Markus
oops now GRINCH knows that SOPH is a girl and will be creepin’ her too, big mouth
February 16th, 20107:40 pm
I know nothing about the Nets, I do not watch NBA. Though, based on their current record, if they win at the same percentage rate…gimme UK.
February 16th, 20107:41 pm
I always thought it was: it’s a cryin’ shame… who knew?
The Olympics and the Stanley Cup are the only two times I will watch hockey.
February 16th, 20107:42 pm
Oh, I know you weren’t but just thought I’d let you know that you sounded a tad bit whiny there.
Oh hell. Mark Bradley has put up a blog about JJ. Now, he doesn’t predict what is wrong so maybe its safe. I’d prefer if he’d just stay the hell away from my Braves.
February 16th, 20107:43 pm
I am envisioning an 8 year old having a temper tantrum at K-Mart. “But I really, really want it daddy!”
Dad says: “Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t know that you REALLY, REALLY wanted it!”
Only us pre-madonnas knew.
February 16th, 20107:44 pm
Heath – another blogism – surprised you have missed it
February 16th, 20107:46 pm
always thought it was: it’s a cryin’ shame… who knew?
“crime shame” is blog lore. Well-accepted, just not as widely used as some other stuff. On the order of “Kimono Dragon” rather than “your and idiot”.
February 16th, 20107:47 pm
Kevin Smith is getting very large.
Andrew in PA
February 16th, 20107:48 pm
Are they airing Canada’s game tonight?
February 16th, 20107:50 pm
I guess so.
February 16th, 20107:51 pm
That’s embarrassing about Kevin Smith. He’s one of those guys though that I had to stop following on Twitter because most of his posts are not funny, and seem like they are written by a stupid 9 year old. I really loved his first 3 movies, and could no longer let him tarnish my memory of them with the stupidity of his tweets.
February 16th, 20107:53 pm
Kevin Smith directed new Bruce Willis movie, “Cop Out”. That movie looks terrible.
I see the nl east shakin out like this,
1.Philadelphia– too much firepower and Halladay makes them better. If Hamels bounces back than they’ll be WS bound again. The question for them is– can Rollins bounce back after a somewhat disappointing ‘09 campaign?
2.Florida– solid pitching to go with a pretty dangerous lineup. Coghlan will make them even better this year. Their pen is a big concern however which is why I see a NL West or Central team take the Wild Card.
3.Atlanta– solid pitching, but just not enough offense and they too have a suspect pen at the back-end.
4.New York– not much after Santana in the rotation, but a strong lineup and solid defense. Rotation and middle relief are big question marks.
5.Washington– they’ll be better and might even challenge New York for 4th place, but their defense and rotation is a question mark.
February 16th, 20107:55 pm
Well aren’t you just a bucket of sunshine?
February 16th, 20107:56 pm
Somebody (not me, but somebody) should show a little initiative, a little moxie, a little take-one-for-the-blog, and compile a semi-comprehensive list of the blog language. Post a link to it, and so forth. Keep us from explaining it all the time.
No, no, don’t everybody step forward at once. A single volunteer will suffice.
February 16th, 20107:57 pm
While 40 isn’t an issue (I’m 36 myself), you have little to fear. I don’t creep. While I’m sure all of you are wonderful women, trolling a sports blog for dates would be a bit sad in my opinion (though probably better than some of those disturbing looking dating sites). Believe it or not, I actually get out of the house occasionally so I do fine on my own. I was just being silly, which is not unprecedented.
February 16th, 20107:58 pm
Don’t you think Philly has more of a questionable bullpen? Did you see Brad Lidge pitch last year? And seriously.. Jamie Moyer?
February 16th, 20108:02 pm
OK folks, lets go easy on Grinch. He’s been a bit subdued since that peeping tom arrest a few years back.
February 16th, 20108:03 pm
Johnny Damon agrees to a 3 year, 30 million dollar deal with the Tampa Bay Rays…………..in Scott Boras’ dreams!
February 16th, 20108:04 pm
joerochester– yes, I saw Lidge pitch last year…. in the world series!
Moyer is a number 5 and can be used in long relief.
Face it fellow Braves fans– we just ain’t got the goods again this year.
Sorry I’m not a homer who tricks myself into thinking my team is so much better than what it really is. Gonna have to go elsewhere for that.
Not good so far…
February 16th, 20108:05 pm
There is a meltdown over at the women’s curling blog. The U.S. blew a 3 point lead.
Lidge is part of the reason the Yankees won that one game because he didn’t cover third base when Damon was stealing.
So-o-o, VJ, SOPH et. al., are we ready for report date Thursday?
February 16th, 20108:06 pm
Where’s Tomahawkin’? Now would be the time for him to say I’m bumping TLC’s “Creep”:
Dammit, Wayne; I was sounding so convincing! Go…do whatever it is people do in Utah.
February 16th, 20108:08 pm
Fire Bobby Cox! Why did he take out Hanson?
February 16th, 20108:09 pm
Women’s curling? Do they judge for creativity or speed? Do they all have to use the same iron, or do different companies sponsor different girls? Do naturally curly girls have an advantage over straight haired ones? I bet that’s tense. Especially if it’s outdoors on a humid day.
Told you that TRIBE victory over the SPIDERS would raise their RPI. AP ranks the RICHMOND club 25th this week.
February 16th, 20108:10 pm
There is a meltdown over at the women’s curling blog. Couch Tater
I tried to watch some men’s curling earlier, but the grunting and awkward noises started getting to me.
February 16th, 20108:13 pm
Do naturally curly girls have an advantage over straight haired ones?
anybody here ever seen “Funny Games”?
February 16th, 20108:14 pm
Umm, NO! What gives you that idea?
… with Naomi Watts and Tim Roth
is there anything worse than mens figure skating, if so, please tell me
Listening to Marge Grunderson scream at the curling rocks was priceless. And then, to hear the Japanese team yelling afterwards just made it Coen worthy.
February 16th, 20108:16 pm
if youre in a keeper ftsy league do you keep Ichiro or McCutchen?
February 16th, 20108:17 pm
What’s wrong with men’s figure skating…other than some of the outfits?
February 16th, 20108:24 pm
It’s at the top of my worse list, that’s for sure. Though, it doesn’t have to be gender-specific and still be bad in my eyes.
February 16th, 20108:25 pm
There is nothing wrong with men’s figure skating
Rob from SC
February 16th, 20108:27 pm
Canada scores, then shows no emotion
February 16th, 20108:28 pm
Heath – cut it to 2…
MZ, I saw Funny Games last summer. I’m all about offbeat movies, but I really thought it was terrible. Had some suspense and promise to begin with, but thought it was awful all in all.
You you have to wait until 8pm your time for it to come on?
February 16th, 20108:33 pm
So many are concerned over the age of Wagner and Saito, yet proclaim the Phillies unbeatable with Jamie Moyer who’s heading damned close to 50.
Tied. Good comeback so far.
February 16th, 20108:34 pm
We go to Wyoming, or Idaho, or Nevada…….
At least until 8:00 – stupid tape delays…
February 16th, 20108:35 pm
on the subject of offbeat movies … have you seen “Oral Fixation”?
February 16th, 20108:37 pm
Dang. That stinks. Make sure you watch the first guy…he’s from France. He did really well. Then, of course, you have that dang Russian who just did pretty good.
February 16th, 20108:38 pm
I haven’t actually. Saw some info about it a while ago on bloodydisgusting.com and it seemed like something I might enjoy. Is it worth watching?
February 16th, 20108:41 pm
“worth watching” would be how I’d describe it … it’s like 79 minutes long, and the first 73 minutes are great, I thought … the last six minutes were a bit of a letdown … but all in all, it’s worth watching
February 16th, 20108:44 pm
DOB,what’s this low-key ballgame thing? Don’t tell me he was like “hey guys watch how hard i can throw.”
February 16th, 20108:45 pm
Heath – no chance now (I say that only because we went ahead, and I don’t want to jinx it)
February 16th, 20108:46 pm
I’ll have to check it out then. I’ve been getting ready for our baseball season and haven’t had time to watch much of anything lately. Last movie I saw was Hurt Locker, which I really thought was as advertised.
February 16th, 20108:47 pm
meant as good as advertised
February 16th, 20108:50 pm
Things are starting to look very good for ya…
February 16th, 20108:57 pm
I’m with you on that one … I’m anxious to see “The Crazies” … crap looks spooky
February 16th, 20108:58 pm
Initial reports look good.
February 16th, 20109:01 pm
Heath – an amazing finish – tied for third now, I believe…
February 16th, 20109:03 pm
I’m looking forward to seeing “The Crazies”, too. The trailer with Gary Jules ‘Mad World’ playing sold me on going to see it. I watched the original a while back, and its not exactly on par with some of Romero’s better zombie-esque movies, its not the worst by far.
February 16th, 20109:06 pm
Big game Friday…Bracket Busters with Iona. Win that and the last two conference games (very winnable)….will end the reg. season on a 7-game win streak. Do that and win a couple in the conference tourney….probably in. Ya think?
February 16th, 20109:09 pm
NEW BLOG IS UP………….
February 16th, 20109:15 pm
I think it is possible – it would help us for ODU to bypass Northeastern, since we beat them. I heard someone who knows more than I do say the conference could get three bids, which would be shocking. But, I would still recommend winning the tourney…
February 16th, 20109:19 pm
That would end all doubt…but those ACC wins sure help if you fall just shy.
February 16th, 20109:20 pm
And…Richmond. Pretty decent non-conference wins.
February 16th, 20109:28 pm
Heath – I had forgotten about Richmond until I read column this morning…
February 16th, 20109:32 pm
unbelievable–I’d keep McCutchen
Heath, VJ – when I say Tar, you say Heels. Tar?
February 16th, 20109:33 pm
Heath – one other interesting stat – the Wake and Maryland wins are their only losses at home this year…
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
