Does anyone share my belief that Jordan “Ice Cold” is not playing with a full deck – the suspension, the Hummer, not telling the truth about an injury, or not telling the truth that it was an injury, turning his arms (body?) into a billboard, taking KJ’s # when he hasn’t even made the team … (feel free to add more)?
MZ, I like Anchorman. Will Ferrell is one of my favorites. Just didn’t think the movie was all that. Thought he had a very funny, but short, app. in Wedding Crashers and of course Old School and Talledega Nights.
Speaking of numbers … what number does Nate where now? I see him wearing #5 for some reason. Heyward definitely looks like a #24, but could surprise us with a # like 34. He’s wearing that in one of those photos. That’d be a little different, I guess, since a lot of P wear 30’s.
TnBrian– A good list at 6:44 post, though I haven’t seen Superbad.

haggard, yeah, Steve Martin was a perfect little sidekick for Candy. The movie is funny from the first scene on. Guess the last few scenes are a little sad, but that makes it that much better of a movie.
Lew: Glaus won’t hit for that high an average and won’t get on base quite that much
I don’t know about that either. His previous four healthy seasons, he was right at that mark in OBP. I just don’t think he’ll hit for that average. I have my doubts that he’ll be “baseball healthy*” enough to produce at hi previous four health seaso average. I expect him to turn in something less, which would be around a .250/.350/.470 line… I could be wrong. I have been in the past.
*baseball healthy: the distinction between a non-athelete level of healthy functionality and an athelete level function of productive healthy. Example: most, if not all, pitchers recovering from rotator cuff surgery are healthy but rarely are baseball healthy and tend to toil in missery and eventually get spit out the bottom of an independent league baseball franchise in Southern California.
Texas crowd and team are flat and uninspiring for this game. The x-factor they needed is just not there. Almost like they have already resigned themselves to a loss.

Right as rain, if the rookie is the real natural. BTW, CHOPPIE, I love to see your posts. Every time I read your handle I’m reminded of the movie “STAND BY ME.” Junkyard dog, “CHOPPER sic………”
Regardless of who wins and loses…I hope Texas can get back into this game so that there is a little bit of excitement for us non-KU fans. Pretty boring game so far unless you root for KU…
Dammit TOM, you got me digging into my ten foot stack of vinyl, and out popped a name ERIC GALE. Had a few feature albums, none of which I own. But he was guitar sideman with a lot of sixties, seventies, eighties jazz-fusion performers. Google him up and pick a few.
Man I just replayed some GROVER WASHINGTON Jr. albums from the mid-seventies. “Knucklehead” from FEELS SO GOOD, 1975. His solo is out of sight. Man that cat could make that electric guitar wail. Just as good the next year playing on A SECRET PLACE.
Their guard play, collectively, has been pretty bad a lot this season…KU, and other UT opponents, only have to guard 3 or 4 guys…..diminishing the play of their good inside guys.

I know this sounds odd on some levels, but signing Nomar would make some sense. I know he’s never played 2nd, but he could back up at 1st, 3rd and SS. He’d be better than Thurston or Conrad. Imagine that bench. He’ll come pretty cheap.
richbrave–are you able to get out now? I must listen to Charlie Byrd….after you mentioned the influence of Django Reinhardt, I am wanting to listen a great deal, after my current music finishes. Hope the snow is not too much.
Cold what did Brian do to you, steal the last Twinkie in the world? I like a nice insult as good as the next guy, but you are merciless. Ain’t any of my business I know, but Brian is better than some others here.
Nobody knew McLouth was wearing 24. He is listed as 13 still on the Braves website. I also thought 24 was open after Schafer switched to #2. I also suggested Heyward could wear 24.
nolie, I told Cold Stove he stays up all night posting comments and I think that set him off on me. Before that it was just a little fun back and forth. Now, like you said, he’s merciless.

Remember the Atlanta Braves of the ‘90s? Loaded with talent. Great pitching staff. One of the best managers in the game. One World Series title. Manning is in danger of becoming known as the Atlanta Braves of the NFL. In fact, when it’s all told, he might not even be the most successful quarterback in his own family. Right now, for all his ballyhoo, he has as many Super Bowl rings as Eli.
Holy crappy sports writing. Eli is more successful than Peyton, huh? ‘Cause he has the same number of Super Bowl rings? Again, holy crappy sports writing.
Should say that the technical for an (accidental) elbow to the face there on Aldrich is basically an automatic call…seen it a couple of time against Cousins this year.
No Animal House?
No Caddyshack?
No Raising Arizona?
No National Lampoon’s Vacation (the first one, though Christmas Vacation is also mighty damn funny)?
No Sideways?
I can’t make a top 10 comedies list without those. I’d add a couple of my sentimental favorites, like It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Artists and Models, This Is Spinal Tap, The Producers and Blazing Saddles.

richbrave–are you able to get out now?……..
Only after they’ve screened my visitors. LOL. The snow, I get………snowmageddeon. Just finished off the driveway today. Took an old man three days to do what I used to in two hours. But I got to revisit a lot of great music all the while. You go MOE. You da’ man.
got to agree with heath, its a big focus this year for the refs, if you clear out with your elbows and make contact, it will be called a technical. on a side note, i cant be happier that knight decided not to come to lxington for gameday this sat. he is just awful.
I didn’t say that it was right….I said that it was officiated this year as an automatic foul. I pointed out an example why it has been that way in the games I have seen with UK. I actually think that the call in this game against Aldrich was marginal (maybe not as bad a call as you since I am not emotionally invested in this game)…and I do agree on the continuation call.
richbrave, I understand completely. we are supposed to get a foot of snow tonight…really hope it does not happen. I have to scurry to the other side of town tomorrow. A friend from out of the country is in town to screen a film he made. I want to see it, but I have the sense that I will be obstructed by the foot of snow.
I’ve lived all my life in VIRGINIA, forty-five in RICHMOND. I have never seen snow piled on the ground continuously for two solid months. Of course, they only let me out when I have visitors.
richbrave, i am just worrying about digging my car out…an entire driveway is beyond my capacity….i dig out a vehicle and hope that someone else has dealt with the roads…very much admire you.
If any ATLANTANS want to be proud of local athletics tune in an A-10 game whern RICHMOND plays men’s basketball. KEVIN ANDERSON is really becoming an all-round and impressive point guard. Gotta’ hit the showers. NYTOL.
richbrave–years ago…my first year in boston in the mid 90s…a record-breaking year….i was lost under multiple months of snow…i remember reemerging and trying to know how to deal with a few feet of snow…hoping that someone dealt with it and suddenly learning that it was not the case.
February 8th, 2010
11:26 pm
Rich , when you get done with all that snow you can come on down and brush all the sunshine off my driveway. Too warm for me to do it
nolie, on behalf of richbrave, and us denizens of the Northeast, I hope your sunblock gives you a rash!
O-o-o, fall down funny. LOL. LOL. No offense nolie. You da’ man. Gotta’ go guys.
I don’t need sunscreen Tom, I just sit on the lanai all day with a fan and a mint julep and watch the river(canal) flow and the fish jump, and the birds dive and swim.and on the other side of the canal I can watch the golfers pound the ground in frustration. Ah, life in the winter down here is paradise.
“I don’t need sunscreen Tom, I just sit on the lanai all day with a fan and a mint julep and watch the river(canal) flow and the fish jump, and the birds dive and swim.and on the other side of the canal I can watch the golfers pound the ground in frustration. Ah, life in the winter down here is paradise.”
nolie, why do you want to make us far less fortunate than you jealous…years ago, i remember working in hawaii, i would sit on the lanaii before having to go to the shore…a wonderful life….i look out of my sun porch at the lake and like it, but somehow lake michigan in the winter does not satisfy the desire for the good life.
Frank, BGiles signed a minor league contract. Which means he wasn’t offered a big-league deal from any team. So theoretically, if the Braves had offered a similar minor league deal, why do you think that San Diego boy Giles — and he loves SoCal — would even consider coming all the way across the country to try to win a roster spot with Atlanta (the team that did non-tender his brother, for what that’s worth) when he can practically play at home, right up the road for the Dodgers if he makes the major league team? Not to mention spring training out West, too.
nolie, let me just tell you, i have a house full of south asians all here for this film screening tomorrow. i am happy to wade through the snow…somehow, there is some humor in people who do not know what a temperature below 44 degrees is being stranded in a city with a projected foot of snow.
When did McLouth switch to 24? I think you have him and Schafer confused in your comment about jersey numbers. I don’t think they announced his new number.
nolie, i used to have a sun porch in atlanta overlooking a large druid hills yard. admittedly, not a lanai, but still a wonderful space…i have not had a lanai in years…but long ago, i had one in hawaii….enjoy what you have.
porch or veranda TOM.usually covered to keep the sun off.named after the Hawaiian Island nolie, thanks. You could have written that for Mr. Google. Your definition was that close.
Now that I’ve finished my work, I resumed my listening to Earl Klugh, from last night. (I don’t want too much on my computer, at one time. It’s like overloading an electrical outlet.) So far, of the 6 I’ve heard (including Klugh), I have Stanley Jordan as my slight favorite, with Steve Khan and Earl Klugh a close second. I like it all … great music!
When did McLouth switch to 24? I think you have him and Schafer confused in your comment about jersey numbers. — BravePack
No, I don’t. McLouth switched to 24 after Wagner came onboard (Wagner has worn 13 since he was young, and it was the number on his grandfather’s tag that he wore working in the mines).
Schafer is No. 2. I’m looking at the updated roster.
At least for the time being, Heyward is No. 71 (a typical non-roster invitee number).
I think Cody has a long way to go b4 he might be ready for the bigs. I don’t think we can say yet that he’s a bust cause he’s still pretty young, but I wouldn’t count on him for anything in the near future… or possibly ever.
Awesome power and learning to walk some it looks like, but terrible batting averages and poor defense so far.

Heath, it’s not an automatic foul. That’s ridiculous. And the continuation call on the next shot was a good call — if this was an NBA game.
Just absurd.

I don’t need sunscreen Tom, I just sit on the lanai all day with a fan and a mint julep and watch the river(canal) flow and the fish jump, and the birds dive and swim.and on the other side of the canal I can watch the golfers pound the ground in frustration. nolie, why do you want to make us far less fortunate than you jealous…years ago, i remember working in hawaii, i would sit on the lanaii before having to go to the shore…a wonderful life….i look out of my sun porch at the lake and like it, but somehow lake michigan in the winter does not satisfy the desire for the good life.
