What is wrong with me?? I cannot stop listening to mid-90s pop/soul/r&b/hip-hop … and, i mean, I’m talkin obscure stuff (debelah morgan, mya, westlife, savage garden, jane child, r. kelly, sonique, breeders, cardigans, coolio, skee-lo, montell jordan, etc.) …
it started out as innocently as me getting an iTunes gift card for Xmas … I like to actually have the physical CD of the music I buy, so I generally don’t download stuff, but when i get itunes gift cards, I can’t pass that up, so I decided to just download a bunch of stuff that I wouldn’t normally buy the CD for anyway … but stuff that I wanted to listen to ..
so i just got on this kick where I started downloading some Aaliyah, some Diana King and some Blu Cantrell … now I can’t stop … well, let me rephrase … I can and have stopped the downloading, but now, I’m loading up my Amazon cart with stuff like Babyface’s greatest hits, mary j. blige’s greatest hits and Jon Secada’s greatest hits …
and who knows where it ends?? next thing you know, I’ll be purchasing some Brandy, some Monica and some Joe

I think I hurt his alter ego’s feelings and I ain’t done much of that lately, so I think I know who the dastardly coward is, but I’m having a good time so I hope it continues. Plus tone and phrasing are pretty telling about a poster.:)

Just to add to the insanity, but for my brother, who got to go home from the hospital today (at least for now), my favorite song from his favorite group (nolie should know this, maybe…) – very dissimilar to Heath’s song…

Smile an everlasting smile, a smile can bring you
near to me.
Don’t ever let me find you down, cause that would
bring a tear to me.
This world has lost its glory, let’s start a
brand new story now, my love.
Right now, there’ll be no other time and I can
show you how, my love.

Talk in everlasting words, and dedicate them all
to me.
And I will give you all my life, I’m here if you
should call to me.
You think that I don’t even mean a single word I
say.
It’s only words, and words are all I have, to
take your heart away.

Life has just begun,
Jack has found his Jill ;
Don’t konw what you’ve done
But I’m all a-thrill.
How could words express
Your divine appeal ?
You can never guess
All the love I feel
From now on, Lady, I insist,
For me no other girls exist.

‘S wonderful ! ‘S marvelous !
(That) You should care for me !
‘S awful nice ! ‘S paradise !
‘S what I love to see !

You’ve made my life so glamorous,
You can’t blame me for feeling amorous,
‘S wonderful ! ‘S marvelous !
That you should care for me !

I can never get Gershwin out of my mind.

I’d like to think wren is negotiating with boras this weekend and a deal could be close by early this week. Really– damon is just what the doctor ordered since nate’s power could be much better utilized hitting like 6th or 7th.

Just so many good things can come out of braves getting damon.

I, like a lot of you, would hate to see diaz’ playing time get cut into because he’s such a pro…. but come one– damon would simply bring more to the table. Maybe heyward starts in AAA and matt gets plenty of playing time in RF platooning with melky. If heyward starts in atlanta than so be it– we need damon at the top of our lineup.

How about some Cole Porter? Here’s some that Bobby Short sang in Woody Allen’s ‘Hannah and Her Sisters’.

Why am I…..Just as happy as a child
Why am I…..Like a racehorse running wild
Why am I…..In a state of ecstasy
The reason is ’cause something’s happened to me

I’m in love again, and the spring is comin’
I’m in love again, hear my heart strings strummin’
I’m in love again, and the hymn I’m hummin’
is the “Huddle Up, Cuddle Up Blues”

I’m in love again, and I can’t rise above it
I’m in love again, and I love, love, love it
I’m in love again, and I’m darn glad of it
Good news!

Someone sad had the awful luck to meet
Someone bad, but the kind of bad that’s sweet
No one knows what a glimpse of paradise
Someone who’s naughty showed to someone who’s nice

I’m in love again, and with glee I bubble
I’m in love again, and the fun’s just double
I’m in love again, if I got in trouble
I’ll be cursin’ one person I know

I’m in love again, I’m a lovebird sigin’
I’m in love again, I’m the spring lamb springin’
I’m in love again, weddin’ bells are ringin’
Let’s go!

I have often walked down this street before;
But the pavement always stayed beneath my feet before.
All at once am I Several stories high.
Knowing I’m on the street where you live.

Are there lilac trees in the heart of town?
Can you hear a lark in any other part of town?
Does enchantment pour Out of ev’ry door?
No, it’s just on the street where you live!

And oh! The towering feeling
Just to know somehow you are near.
The overpowering feeling
That any second you may suddenly appear!
People stop and stare. They don’t bother me.
For there’s no where else on earth that I would rather be.
Let the time go by, I won’t care if I
Can be here on the street where you live.

My brother is a 29 year old alcoholic. The poor kid wouldn’t so much as hurt a fly, he’s his own worst enemy. He doesn’t work, has no girlfriend and no friends. Alcohol has already taken his life and I and the rest of his family have tried to help, but to no affect.

He lives with my dad in the middle of nowhere. He is a smart guy who is completely lost in this world.

Well I woke up Sunday morning,
With no way to hold my head that didn’t hurt.
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn’t bad,
So I had one more for dessert.
Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes,
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
An’ I shaved my face and combed my hair,
An’ stumbled down the stairs to meet the day.

I’d smoked my brain the night before,
On cigarettes and songs I’d been pickin’.
But I lit my first and watched a small kid,
Cussin’ at a can that he was kicking.
Then I crossed the empty street,
‘n caught the Sunday smell of someone fryin’ chicken.
And it took me back to somethin’,
That I’d lost somehow, somewhere along the way.

On the Sunday morning sidewalk,
Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
‘Cos there’s something in a Sunday,
Makes a body feel alone.
And there’s nothin’ short of dyin’,
Half as lonesome as the sound,
On the sleepin’ city sidewalks:
Sunday mornin’ comin’ down.

In the park I saw a daddy,
With a laughin’ little girl who he was swingin’.
And I stopped beside a Sunday school,
And listened to the song they were singin’.
Then I headed back for home,
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin’.
And it echoed through the canyons,
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.

On the Sunday morning sidewalk,
Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
‘Cos there’s something in a Sunday,
Makes a body feel alone.
And there’s nothin’ short of dyin’,
Half as lonesome as the sound,
On the sleepin’ city sidewalks:
Sunday mornin’ comin’ down. :)

All we needed, needed was a laugh
Years gone by…
I’d say we’ve kicked some ass
When I’m enraged
Or hittin’ the stage
Adrenaline rushing
Through my veins
And I’d say we’re still kickin’ ass

Ooo, ahh, kickstart my heart
Hope it never stops
And to think, we did all of this…
To rock

Ooh, yeah
Kickstart my heart
Give it a start
Ooh, yeah, ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-baby
Ooh, yeah
Kickstart my heart
Hope it never stops
Ooh, yeah, baby

Ooh, yeah

Mark in mid-town: Graham Parker’s upcoming album isn’t as good as Don’t Tell Columbus, but only because, as you said, that’s one of the better albums of the past decade (I agree with you). But Imaginary Television is another solid GP album, bunch of mid-tempo rockers, couple of ballads, etc., and songwriting as sharp as ever, with that sardonic wit in full effect. The album concept — he writes theme songs to his own imaginary TV shows — lends itself perfectly to his knack for storytelling in four-minute bursts.

By the way, did you get the album he did with the Figgs 4-5 years ago, Songs of No Consequence? If you didn’t, you should seek it. It’s really a rockin’ album that seemed like it got overlooked. It was a lot better than the one he put out right before it, Your Country, and a few before that. To me it sounded a lot like earlier Parker because of the harder-edged band behind him, or like Elvis Costello when Elvis still had that snarl.

But the scene at the end, where Spacey’s character tells Shelley (Lemmon) that he’s going to let the cops what happened, that Shelley is “going away,” you can just see Lemmon’s character go limp, lifeless, as he realizes there’s no hope. He’s gone in those few seconds.

DOB, great rundown on Hanson. Kid should be great (okay, so I’m rasing expectations).

Medlen, who won an honorable mention in your article, deserves more opportunities this season to pitch in pressure situations (set up and closing, but also jams).

I don’t know if management still projects Medlen a starter or hopes to develop him as a bona fide relief man. I think he could be a very effective starter, but I think Medlen could potential be an outstanding reliever.

Damon… I’d be surprised if Wren went after him. Got to believe the Wren-ster is looking at Heyward coming up by the summer and, perhaps, Schafer coming up (if he’s taking IL pitchers apart).

No more than the ones getting them, I’m sure. Cold-calling sucks the big weenie. I would end an unsuccessful phone lead by asking if they wanted a call-back and if so, when. I remember one fella’ saying the third time around, “I don’t want to meet you, and I don’t want to hear about your G**-d****d product.” Used to get a fella’ from SAN FRAN. trying to sell that stuff. Tried out a couple of his recommends on Sure.Trade.com. Real dogs. Finally told him not to call anymore. Best thing to give a salesperson is honesty. Yeah, we don’t want Wren getting any ideas about bringing Loaf back, do we? Lonnie Smith is a better option out there in LF.

Too bad about Rip rich, he made a buncha movies with Kris and Willie too. Even starred in a few year ago.One called Payday was a pretty darn good look at a not-so-nice country singer. Pretty good flick.

I’ve been watching all the episodes of “Sons of Anarchy” this month, and I just got caught up with everything last night, watching the season finale of season 2. Damn, that has become a very, very good, very intriguing show. They brought together all of the storylines with Zobelle, Gemma, Stahl, the Irish, et al in a very clever way in the finale, though as great as that was, I think the “moment” of the entire show was when Gemma sat Jax and Clay down to tell them what happened. Can’t wait for the new season.

The Braves trqade a player making next to nothing (Schafer) a player making around $2 mil (Diaz), sign a player for $4.2 million and trade (more players likely making little money-read that prospects) for a player making over $7 million so they can put a .300 hitter (Prado) on the bench?

Funny, but for some reason I don’t see that (taking on about $9 mil in salary or depleting the Farm System) happening.

Mattatrab-Exactly what minor league players are we putting too much risk into? Schafer who came up and was sent down? Heyward and Freeman who aren’t up yet (and they got Glaus to hold for Freeman)? Medlen who gave a solid performance last year? Teheran, Vizcaino or Delgado who won’t see the bigs for another three or so years (if then)? Or maybe Tommy Hanson who won 12 games in his rookie season had one of the lowest BAA numbers in the NL as well as a sub 3.00 ERA?

Lew,when are you planning to go to Orlando? I am hoping this winter will slow down a little bit here in NC- we got 8 inches of snow yesterday. Don’t want to be driving in snow with RV when we head out 25th. :-)

For 2 million, why not give Damon a shot? I mean Matt Diaz, Melky, and Damon, are 3 capable hitters, they will have one hell of a rotation on the outfield, and a hell of a bench.

If Damon was available for $2 million I’m pretty sure the Braves would do that.

Does anyone care about the Pro Bowl?

They really messed up moving it this year. Lots of people out here are upset and dissapointed. That includes players.

At least we get it back next year.

Wren is not going to get Damon, even though he’s being handed out on a silver platter.

Nope, what Wren has done is put a perfectly good 4th place team on the field this season.

I hope NO ONE goes to the games! So he can see how much he’s hated and how bad of a GM he is!

What’s even worse is the Melkly F’ing Cabrera is making $3+mil. I would have rather Wren said no thanks to Cabrera in the trade, just get another prospect instead and then take the money saved from the absolutely WORTHLESS Melky Cabrera and have used it on Damon….if I’m not mistaken…his 24 Home Runs hit hit last season would have LED the Braves. Instead we get a guy that hit 11 I think, just Frank Wren’s type of guy. A LOSER!

Mitchie no dont care about the Pro Bowl. However I never did before either. To me they should just make it an honor to be named to the Pro Bowl and just do away with it all together.

Actually it’s mostly just the loonies like you that “hate” Wren. A lot of people think he’s doing a pretty good job, especially given the limited budget.

I agree. I don’t know why, but the idea of watching the best football players play together isn’t as intriguing as watching the best baseball players play together. Maybe that’s just me though.

Patrick-Careful Dude, your non understanding of the situation is showing like a cheap slip.

First of all, you seriously believe that Wren could have gotten a better deal from the Yankees, but decided WTF, I like Melky best, or that the other players he got in the deal were just throw ins to make Wren look like And Idiot?

No, he got what he could get for a pitcher who’s one year worth at the price he was making, with an up and down career, who wasn’t worth nearly as much as some misguided Denizens thought he was.

In addition, at the time, Damon was still asking for a two year $20 mil deal-way over what the Braves had available and (apparently) much more than anyone else thought he was worth. So you think Wren could get him for less than we paid Garrett Anderson last year but passed up the chance?

Come on Dude. What Wren did was to get a versatile outfielder, capable of playing all three outfield positions, with a history of playing in the postseason and performing admirably under much pressure. Also let us not mention we got an incredible top flight pitching prospect in Vizcaino and another reliever who should be ready in a year or so. In addition, you might want to maybe gloss over the fact that should we sign another outfielder (one who I’m certain, Wren will ask your approval before making the deal so you’ll be happy and quit calling him a loser), Melky would be quite affordable trade bait-someone likely to be traded with no real difficulty. But, WTF, you’re unhappy so he should go try to re-do the deal. Right?

I never really cared either, but I had so much fun last year at the game. Aloha stadium is about 2 miles from my house and I can see it everytime I go outside at work. This morning the stadium is desolate…
There have been a lot of talk on the radio and in the papers about how much money we are losing since its not here.

Honestly, I havent even bothered to see who is playing today. I know it isnt anyone in the Super Bowl.

Have a good time,Lew. I guess I won’t go to any games this year because Patrick told me not to- probably tear up all these tickets I have and stand outside with a sign saying Fire Wren. Well, maybe not.
