Eric, well, honestly I haven’t watched a lot of Damon in the OF recently and you being in NY you’d have a much better idea, I assume. But, I think if they are seriously after him it’d be for his leadoff abilities and to move Nate lower. Another thing to think about is Heyward and what if he has a set back in ST or they just feel some time in AAA will do him good. They’d probably really like to have Damon then. Who knows …
Sounds to me like the Braves may have a low-ball $3-4M 1-year offer (maybe with end-of-the-week deadline) on the table with Boras trying to squeeze more out of the Tigers.

AdirondackDave…Don’t say that unless you’re actually sure, because now people will go crazy due to your speculation…lol, this blog is already on enough edge today
Eric-Damon’s defense couldn’t be any worse (or his arm much poorer) than what we saw from Garrett Anderson last year. He WOULD, however, give us a pretty damned potent offense and like TnBrian mentions, move Nate lower in the order (hopefully turned around to what we expected with his new contact lenses) so his power (though we didn’t see it that often last year) would do us more good offensively with (hopefully) more runners on in front of him.
AdirondackDave I said SPECULATION…No need to go all caps on me…I was just kidding a bit on how after an interesting comment from DOB and people go crazy, especially since he hasn’t checked in since….
Lew… You have seen garrett but you have not seen much of johnny the man throws like a girl!
no other way to put it! he throws like a GIRL… elbow first! yes a girl he swings his hips to add power to his toss and it goes nowhere… he looks like a 14 yr old soft ball playe when he throws the ball! he is much worse than garrett trust me… a single is a double… a double is a tripple and god forbid someone rounds third… mr 22 hop to 2nd is awfull you dont get how bad he is for the braves!
and the ted is a big left field he just isnt worth it and some players are just meant for the AL for this reason! you braves fans will eat him alive when he screws JJ out of a win when the ball keeps getting hit to left after the 6th!
im saying if the runner would have held up on a double at 2nd… the runner would not stop if johnny was out there to dribble the ball into the infield… you all will be sorry trust me he is not an NL guy!

Lew i agree about moving people to 1b!
it seems like an espn talking point with older players.
i also dont think its easy to become the DH just like that!
Wow ! So if Francoeur becomes a .300 40 100 guy in the next 3 years we gave him away !
Yeah, ask Bill Buckner how easy !B can be even for a career 1B. Remember Mackey Sasser catcher couldn’t throw the ball back to the pitcher ? Rick Ankiel as a pitcher and Steve Sax at 2B ? Mental.
You guys talking about starting up and riding motorcycles kill me. My snow blower barely started the other day because it was so frickin’ cold, and it’s in the garage all the time.
It’s currently 17 degrees right now. Which of course feels like a heat wave, due to that being about 22 degrees warmer than it was over the weekend at this time every day. Motocycles?
I sh!t you not, when I pulled up at the bar Friday night where we played last weekend, there were about 15 snow mobiles in the parking lot. Bet that doesn’t happen too often in Atlanta, huh?
ABTSteve, watch Snatch with the subtitles. The first time I watched it I didnt even finish it. I couldnt understand anything. After talking to a friend of mine who loves the movie, I went back and wathed it again with the subtitles on. I made a worls of difference. Excellent movie.

“I think if it were only an issue of a one-year contract, the Tigers and Johnny Damon by now might have a deal. But the belief, strong belief, is that agent Scott Boras wants a second year. And that’s likely a deal-breaker for the Tigers as they ponder whether to add a nice top-of-the-order bat to their undernourished lineup.”
Me talking now: I can assure you Boras does want a two-year deal for Damon. He’d like to see the Braves give him a two-year deal with a higher salary in second year if necessary, to make it work for their budget.
I don’t know if the Braves or Tigers would be willing to go a second year. If one does, that’s where he likely lands.
Oh, and with that last whether/climate update of the upper-midwest, is there any doubt in the world that the Twins and the city of Minneapolis are frickin’ idiotic for not making them put a retractable roof on that new place?
You guys think Detroit, Chicago and the north-east is cold in March and April for baseball?
I can’t wait until this region gets one of it’s late spring storms in one of the upcoming seasons, where there is about 20-40 inches of snow over 3-4 days, and then the temperature drops to about -10 degrees.
Mark it down, there is going to be a stretch at some point, where the Twins and their opponents lose about 5-10 games at the beginning of a season in the next 4-5 years.
I was still snowblowing and scraping ice last May. Like I said. Idiots. Sad day when the people of Wisconson have more of a clue when building their stadium.
abwright – The confusion factor on Snatch is a good point. Looking back, I could only understood about every third word. The accents were unbelievably thick. I’ll give it another viewing. ABT
that movie is much better when you use the subtitles.actually a lot of those English flix are
Compared to last year, this seems like a walk in the park. I’ve only used it 3 or 4 times, and 2 of those were in back to back days when we got dumped on a couple of weeks ago.
Add to that, my neigbor who usually is snow bird and heads to Arizona, leaving his sidewalks and driveway for me, stayed home this winter due to his daughter in law going to Iraq and them having to watch the grand-kids.
But yeah, as my last post stated, we won’t be out of the clear until June. The only difference is when it snows in late April and May, it usually melts pretty fast. When it dumps in December or January, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
Nathan-You mention Furcal at cutoff, but we have Yunel, who throws as well as Fookie ever did. I see little difference defensively between Garrett and Damon, but like you said, I can see a hell of a lot of positive difference in Damon offensively. If we can get him on a good deal or with a mutual option for 2011, I say go for it. We could always trade him to the Yankees at the trade deadlne and rob another stud prospect from them.
Speaking of the Byrds, I just listened to a great one of theirs…”I want to grow up to be a politician”
“…I’ll always be tough but I’ll never be scary. I want to shoot guns or butter my bread. I’ll work in the towns or conservate the prairies. And you can believe, the future’s ahead.”
Bravissimo: There’s one real good local BBQ place on 192 in Kissimmee, down in the older part of town far enough from Disney to make it a spot more for locals than tourists. I forget the name of it now, but it’s pretty solid.
Otherwise, it’s mostly just your chains, Smokey Bones and Sonny’s, etc.
I might get bashed for this, but I’d offer Damon that second year if that brings him in. You have Schafer and Heyward who’ll more than likely be up in 2011. You have McLouth who could be traded to free up some money. Looking at Damon(LF), Schafer(CF), Heyward(RF) ain’t bad at all.
McLouth could have a monster year where you don’t want to trade him, but I think the bargain hunting Braves would want to move his dollars and put Schafer in his place anyways after this year, imo. Only thing is that’s a lot of lefties for ‘11 if Freeman is up by then.
Just bought an excellent debut CD from San Diego band called The Soft Pack. Really energetic, stripped-down, garage-rock/punk vibe. Driving guitar and great voice on the cynical young fella fronting the band. They’ve got a Strokes vibe, but with West Coast surf-rock influence, and that’s a good thing. Good stuff. Glad that Warren, the Decatur CD owner, gave it his thumbs-up or I might not have bought it….
Also got the new Midlake album, though I haven’t played it yet. I have their last two and really liked both, saw a great review of this one in the new Paste magazine.
You are so great. How could I forget … “He’s taken girls across state lines … that’s the Mann act!” ….
nolie,
Sharkey’s Machine is way solid. Just watched it again not long ago.
And I am kicking myself for leaving out the best Burt Reynolds movie of all time. “The Longest Yard.” Filmed in southeast Georgia and they used (so the coach said) the equipment from our high school. Richard Kiel (”Jaws” in the Bond movies) married a girl from Glennville or Reidsville, I heard, whom he met down there.
Reynolds’ “The Longest Yard” >>>> Sandler’s “The Longest Yard.”
It wasn’t so much a comedy as it was a drama with comedic touches and flourishes. Reynolds was at the zenith of his broad appeal at the time. Men wanted to be him, women wanted to be with him. And the great opening scene, with Skynyrd’s “Saturday Night Special” blaring as he races through downtown Savannah … awesome.
And of the best climactic lines of all time:
“We’ve come too far together to stop now. For Granny. For Nate. For Caretaker …. Let’s do it.”
Dobi riding his motorbike, nice… snowed here today, looks great against my red dogwood..
but my ass..le dog peed on the missus’ new couch…. he is in big doo doo…
Jay – re Boyz in the Hood…. loved that movie, wasn’t it starring a very young and thin CUBA GOODING
No Mom and Pop ( there is a Bubba’s Bodacious BBQ which is sadly lacking both in quality and cleanliness) BBQ places in our end of Orlando (East Colonial). If one needs a Q fix, though, you could do much worse than Smokey Bones. They have pretty good pulled pork and good slaw.
Lew – BBQ in Orlando, there is an excellent place north east up near Winter Springs.. see if I can find the business card and post details here
Smokey and the Bandit – wow, a blast from my youth… my mum loved Burt Reynolds.. (who didnt) and I found Jackie Gleason to be hilarious….. just loved that movie (was it set in GA ???)
Dogsbrekky, give Warren at Decatur CD a call, he’ll ship that bad boy to you in no time. He’s got a terrific selection, and if he doesn’t have something in stock, he usually can get it within 24 hours. (404) 371-9090
CB, not far from Fat Boys BBQ, there’s an excellent Cuban restaurant called Havana’s Cafe. The real thing, all the way. It’s on 192 (W. Vine St.), same as the BBQ place. Down toward the Old Town part of Kissimmee. There’s also a good Italian restaurant right next door to the Cuban joint.
thanks DOBI, will call right now, excellent stuff, I really prefer hard copies so I can take it around with me (old fashioned like that) rather then downloading

Yes, because the Tigers’ road uniform has orange around the letters in “Detroit.”

The Detroit News’ Lynn Henning wrote in his blog:

Good for you Eric. LOL
