Eric your crazy if you don’t want consistency at the top of your lineup
February 3rd, 20104:31 pm
None of us really know what the Braves are willing to offer and what they can afford to pay Damon. To say different is to only be guessing.
February 3rd, 20104:32 pm
This is a public forum and I can post anything I like anytime I like. If you don’t want to read what I post DONT. As far as being bossy is concerned, that sounds like the pot calling the kettle black, when you are trying to tell ME what to do.
February 3rd, 20104:33 pm
Just went out to warm up the bike, and remembered one of my favorites I have not seen in quite a while…Easy Rider.
February 3rd, 20104:35 pm
Eric, well, honestly I haven’t watched a lot of Damon in the OF recently and you being in NY you’d have a much better idea, I assume. But, I think if they are seriously after him it’d be for his leadoff abilities and to move Nate lower. Another thing to think about is Heyward and what if he has a set back in ST or they just feel some time in AAA will do him good. They’d probably really like to have Damon then. Who knows …
Where does Damon live, again? I might have to go kneecap the sumbee just to put a stop to the endless blathering about him on this forum, LOL.
February 3rd, 20104:36 pm
joerochester-Yeah, Damon COULD make the Mets a winner-if he brought the Yankees’ pitching staff along with him to Flushing.
Sounds to me like the Braves may have a low-ball $3-4M 1-year offer (maybe with end-of-the-week deadline) on the table with Boras trying to squeeze more out of the Tigers.

My top 10 fav. movies (no particular order) :
Lord Of The Rings
Shaun Of The Dead
Meet The Fockers
High Plains Drifter
Dumb & Dumber
Ace Ventura Pet Detective
Fast Times At Ridgemont High
AdirondackDave…Don’t say that unless you’re actually sure, because now people will go crazy due to your speculation…lol, this blog is already on enough edge today
February 3rd, 20104:40 pm
Eric-Damon’s defense couldn’t be any worse (or his arm much poorer) than what we saw from Garrett Anderson last year. He WOULD, however, give us a pretty damned potent offense and like TnBrian mentions, move Nate lower in the order (hopefully turned around to what we expected with his new contact lenses) so his power (though we didn’t see it that often last year) would do us more good offensively with (hopefully) more runners on in front of him.
February 3rd, 20104:41 pm
Andy K — I said MAY. How could anybody outside FW’s office know for sure?
I wish Damon would just sign somehwere….tired of hearing about him.
This is worse than the Peavy talk last year…
Ease in Woodstock
If we really cared what Blowman thought, wouldn’t we frequent his blog?
February 3rd, 20104:42 pm
Damon could make the Tigers winners.
February 3rd, 20104:45 pm
AdirondackDave I said SPECULATION…No need to go all caps on me…I was just kidding a bit on how after an interesting comment from DOB and people go crazy, especially since he hasn’t checked in since….
Mitchie-san, an amen from the peanut gallery.
abwright – BIG agreement on Lock Stock… A tremendous amount of fun. I liked it better overall than Snatch (although Brad Pitt was great in that).
February 3rd, 20104:46 pm
I thought John Wayne’s best role was in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
February 3rd, 20104:47 pm
Will Johnny Damon be a Brave? More speculation at 11
Eric In Albany N.Y.
February 3rd, 20104:48 pm
Lew… You have seen garrett but you have not seen much of johnny the man throws like a girl!
no other way to put it! he throws like a GIRL… elbow first! yes a girl he swings his hips to add power to his toss and it goes nowhere… he looks like a 14 yr old soft ball playe when he throws the ball! he is much worse than garrett trust me… a single is a double… a double is a tripple and god forbid someone rounds third… mr 22 hop to 2nd is awfull you dont get how bad he is for the braves!
and the ted is a big left field he just isnt worth it and some players are just meant for the AL for this reason! you braves fans will eat him alive when he screws JJ out of a win when the ball keeps getting hit to left after the 6th!
you all have not seen him as much as i…
Andy K — Ok with that… It’s been ten minutes, no crazy talk yet.
February 3rd, 20104:49 pm
So a runner might score from 2nd base on a sac fly with Damon in OF ?
Dob, why don’t they give
Heyward a shot this year in OF, or will they in ST ?
February 3rd, 20104:51 pm
im saying if the runner would have held up on a double at 2nd… the runner would not stop if johnny was out there to dribble the ball into the infield… you all will be sorry trust me he is not an NL guy!
Eric in Albany, please hand in your resignation from the blog. you’re too stupid to post here any more.
February 3rd, 20104:52 pm
eric-You THINK I haven’t seen Damon play, but I live three hours from Boston. I get all the Red Sox games and on Saturdays, I either get the Sox or Yankees games on Fox. Not to mention I have MLB Extra Innings (and have for years) and watch 250- 300 games every year.
I’ve actually seen Damon play more than Garrett.
Why doesn’t Damon convert to 1B ?
February 3rd, 20104:53 pm
No, seriously, Eric in Albany, not only shouldn’t you post here ever again, you shouldn’t watch baseball ever again
February 3rd, 20104:54 pm
robdawg-Instead of Chipper or McCann? Isn’t that what most seem to think is the answer to our 1B questions?
Damon will lose more games for the braves than he will win for them!
Stupid? how is he not an AL guy… he just is thats a fact!
February 3rd, 20104:55 pm
Does Bobby platoon his wife and maid at home ? Lol.
Geez, just let one guy be the starter and quit platooning.
February 3rd, 20104:56 pm
Eric In Albany, please no more out of you. You’re just not a baseball guy, or up to the standards of this fine blog. Spout your stupidity elsewhere.
February 3rd, 20104:58 pm
Chipper could do it but his arm is still strong enough to play 3B. McCann still young enough to be a top catcher. But players who lose their arms get converted to 1B a lot.
Once Damon signs (somewhere) what are we going to talk about?
If Damon signs with the Tigers, will we have the hue and cry to sign Dye?
Is there some other over-priced, past-his-prime free agent that we can yammer on endlessly and pointlessly?
Willy Wally? thats how you get someone to shut up on the blog? hahaha that will make me run and hide for sure hahahaha
February 3rd, 20104:59 pm
Willy Wally, you thought that was bad? You must not ever come around during games.
February 3rd, 20105:00 pm
Stinger – Flim Flam Man was a good movie, and includes a great scene with Slim Pickens.
Rammer – Man Who Shot Liberty Valence was a GREAT movie. John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart and Lee Marvin – What’s not ot like – great plot with surprise ending.
For what it’s worth, I think Damon’s negatives outweigh positives, unlesss he is really cheap.
robdawg-I was joking with you. I don’t think ANY of the players mentioned will be at first anytime soon.
always really liked Coogan’s Bluff with Clint Eastwood. WW
me too plus it was the inspiration for McCloud
February 3rd, 20105:02 pm
Ok Lew. I’m on some prescribed flu medicine so I might miss the sarcasm right now.
February 3rd, 20105:04 pm
i believe the last time the braves won the NL east they used young tallent and let them play… they let them rack up #’s that covered an entire season and came out on top… the best moves by some gm’s are the moves that are not made!
you all want frank to make the damon move just to make the move… but you will all say thank god frank didnt sign him when he has a bad year for someone else… let our tallent play! id rather have hayward out there and win the spot out for spring than sign damon… im sick of those signings late in the offseason see also raul mondesi garrett anderson and this years damon! they all end the same way… 10 yrs later sitting talking with our buddies saying remember when so and so played for the braves? what a joke that was!
ABTSteve, February 3rd, 2010, 4:45 pm … “BIG agreement on Lock Stock… I liked it better overall than Snatch.”
I felt that way the first time I watched Snatch. On second watching (once I had a better sense of who was whom), I actually liked Snatch a lot better.
Vinnie Jones in Lock, Stock played kind of an anti-hero, but in Snatch was just a dreg. That confused me a little. When I watched the second time with that sense of his character, the movie flowed a lot better.
I agree on Brad Pitt. Great character.
February 3rd, 20105:09 pm
Just went out to warm up the bike, and remembered one of my favorites I have not seen in quite a while…Easy Rider. — TheManMike
Just got back from riding the bike — too nice here today to settle for just starting it up — and couldn’t agree more on Easy Rider. Love that movie, including the great ’60s rock (Byrds, Hendrix, Steppenwolf, etc.)
Is Church still signed ? How does everyone evaluate trading Francoeur for him ? Francoeur still has an upside potential to be a star IMO.
robdawg-Not really sarcasm. Just a comment on what so many seem to think will happen, but probably won’t. I’ve always wondered why so many think anyone can play first base. Ain’t so. Look back to Mike Piazza for conformation on that.
February 3rd, 20105:10 pm
abwright – The confusion factor on Snatch is a good point. Looking back, I could only understood about every third word. The accents were unbelievably thick. I’ll give it another viewing.
February 3rd, 20105:11 pm
Church is no longer a Brave. He was released to make room for one of the new acquisitions-forget which one.
February 3rd, 20105:12 pm
“Damon’s defense couldn’t be any worse (or his arm much poorer) than what we saw from Garrett Anderson last year.” Lew
Yes, actually, it can. While Damon’s range and speed is better than Loaf, his arm is not. So what’s the difference?
One guy takes longer to get to the ball and throws a little better. The other guy gets to the ball quicker, but has a tough time hitting the cutoff man, much less throwing anybody out at home.
If Furcal comes with Damon as the rover (and MLB allows the Braves a 10th man in the field), then yeah. You’re right. Damon’s defense can’t possibly be a downgrade compared to Loaf.
But you are right about one thing. He’d be a nice addittion at the top of the order. But let’s not pretend that the Braves possible interest in Damon has anything to do with being an upgrade over Loaf defensively. Because to be honest with you, Diaz/Melky is an upgrade defensively over Loaf. And they’re both on the roster.
If the Braves sign Damon, it’s because in Wren’s mind what he brings to the table as a leadoff hitter will counter what his sally arm will do to the outfield defense.
There are so many new acquisitions and so many young players who are starting to get some mlb exposure. I am really looking forward to Spring Training this year.
The Young: Heyward, Schafer, Hanson, Jurrjens, Medlen
The New: Wagner, Saito, Glaus, Hinske, Cabrera, Abreu, Chavez, Dunn
The Up-and-coming: Freeman, Minor
The Long Shots: Conrad, M. Jones, Thurston
The Fan-Faves: C. Jones, McCann, Hudson
And all the others.
Maybe we’ll even get a sighting on Ryan “Spangles” von Furstenburg.
Lew i agree about moving people to 1b!
it seems like an espn talking point with older players.
i also dont think its easy to become the DH just like that!
February 3rd, 20105:14 pm
Damon to the Tigers. It will happen. Who knows, he may even wind up wearing orange and blue. — Reyesisdaman
Yes, because the Tigers’ road uniform has orange around the letters in “Detroit.”
February 3rd, 20105:16 pm
Wow ! So if Francoeur becomes a .300 40 100 guy in the next 3 years we gave him away !
Yeah, ask Bill Buckner how easy !B can be even for a career 1B. Remember Mackey Sasser catcher couldn’t throw the ball back to the pitcher ? Rick Ankiel as a pitcher and Steve Sax at 2B ? Mental.
You guys talking about starting up and riding motorcycles kill me. My snow blower barely started the other day because it was so frickin’ cold, and it’s in the garage all the time.
It’s currently 17 degrees right now. Which of course feels like a heat wave, due to that being about 22 degrees warmer than it was over the weekend at this time every day. Motocycles?
I sh!t you not, when I pulled up at the bar Friday night where we played last weekend, there were about 15 snow mobiles in the parking lot. Bet that doesn’t happen too often in Atlanta, huh?
February 3rd, 20105:17 pm
DOB…you able to get your bbq fix during spring training?…Im not familiar with joints down that way.
ABTSteve, watch Snatch with the subtitles. The first time I watched it I didnt even finish it. I couldnt understand anything. After talking to a friend of mine who loves the movie, I went back and wathed it again with the subtitles on. I made a worls of difference. Excellent movie.

Yes it is a nice day. I am getting off in the next 20mins and will be taking the long way home today.
The Detroit News’ Lynn Henning wrote in his blog:
“I think if it were only an issue of a one-year contract, the Tigers and Johnny Damon by now might have a deal. But the belief, strong belief, is that agent Scott Boras wants a second year. And that’s likely a deal-breaker for the Tigers as they ponder whether to add a nice top-of-the-order bat to their undernourished lineup.”
Me talking now: I can assure you Boras does want a two-year deal for Damon. He’d like to see the Braves give him a two-year deal with a higher salary in second year if necessary, to make it work for their budget.
I don’t know if the Braves or Tigers would be willing to go a second year. If one does, that’s where he likely lands.
February 3rd, 20105:21 pm
Oh, and with that last whether/climate update of the upper-midwest, is there any doubt in the world that the Twins and the city of Minneapolis are frickin’ idiotic for not making them put a retractable roof on that new place?
You guys think Detroit, Chicago and the north-east is cold in March and April for baseball?
I can’t wait until this region gets one of it’s late spring storms in one of the upcoming seasons, where there is about 20-40 inches of snow over 3-4 days, and then the temperature drops to about -10 degrees.
Mark it down, there is going to be a stretch at some point, where the Twins and their opponents lose about 5-10 games at the beginning of a season in the next 4-5 years.
I was still snowblowing and scraping ice last May. Like I said. Idiots. Sad day when the people of Wisconson have more of a clue when building their stadium.
February 3rd, 20105:23 pm
abwright – The confusion factor on Snatch is a good point. Looking back, I could only understood about every third word. The accents were unbelievably thick. I’ll give it another viewing. ABT
that movie is much better when you use the subtitles.actually a lot of those English flix are
February 3rd, 20105:26 pm
Good for you Eric. LOL
Compared to last year, this seems like a walk in the park. I’ve only used it 3 or 4 times, and 2 of those were in back to back days when we got dumped on a couple of weeks ago.
Add to that, my neigbor who usually is snow bird and heads to Arizona, leaving his sidewalks and driveway for me, stayed home this winter due to his daughter in law going to Iraq and them having to watch the grand-kids.
But yeah, as my last post stated, we won’t be out of the clear until June. The only difference is when it snows in late April and May, it usually melts pretty fast. When it dumps in December or January, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
Nathan-You mention Furcal at cutoff, but we have Yunel, who throws as well as Fookie ever did. I see little difference defensively between Garrett and Damon, but like you said, I can see a hell of a lot of positive difference in Damon offensively. If we can get him on a good deal or with a mutual option for 2011, I say go for it. We could always trade him to the Yankees at the trade deadlne and rob another stud prospect from them.
February 3rd, 20105:27 pm
ABTSteve, February 3rd, 2010, 5:10 pm … “Looking back, I could only understood about every third word. The accents were unbelievably thick.”
I think I had to turn subtitles on.
Speaking of the Byrds, I just listened to a great one of theirs…”I want to grow up to be a politician”
“…I’ll always be tough but I’ll never be scary. I want to shoot guns or butter my bread. I’ll work in the towns or conservate the prairies. And you can believe, the future’s ahead.”
February 3rd, 20105:28 pm
Bravissimo: There’s one real good local BBQ place on 192 in Kissimmee, down in the older part of town far enough from Disney to make it a spot more for locals than tourists. I forget the name of it now, but it’s pretty solid.
Otherwise, it’s mostly just your chains, Smokey Bones and Sonny’s, etc.
February 3rd, 20105:29 pm
How can you not say Die Hard is an all time great?
February 3rd, 20105:31 pm
Speaking of English media, I just saw a bit of a “new” show called the “In-betweeners.” It is very, very funny.
It channels “Super-Bad” but with an English POV.
Every now and then they flash sub-titles for us dialect challenged Americans.
February 3rd, 20105:32 pm
How can you not say Die Hard is an all time great? joe
you can’t. started it’s own genre more or less
February 3rd, 20105:33 pm
I can’t believe Boondock Saints hasn’t been brought up at all
February 3rd, 20105:35 pm
Since this is an Atlanta Braves blog, how is it that the all-time-great “Smokey and the Bandit” has not yet been mentioned.
“Give me a Dr. Pepper and a Diablo sammich. And make it snappy, I’m in a g– d— hurry!”
February 3rd, 20105:36 pm
Sharkey’s Machine another good Atlanta flick.
February 3rd, 20105:38 pm
I might get bashed for this, but I’d offer Damon that second year if that brings him in. You have Schafer and Heyward who’ll more than likely be up in 2011. You have McLouth who could be traded to free up some money. Looking at Damon(LF), Schafer(CF), Heyward(RF) ain’t bad at all.
McLouth could have a monster year where you don’t want to trade him, but I think the bargain hunting Braves would want to move his dollars and put Schafer in his place anyways after this year, imo. Only thing is that’s a lot of lefties for ‘11 if Freeman is up by then.
February 3rd, 20105:40 pm
You have McLouth who could be traded to free up some money. TnB
I wouldn’t even consider trading Nate just to sign Damon. Screw that.
February 3rd, 20105:41 pm
Moylan looks like he knows where the good grub is!
February 3rd, 20105:46 pm
If it came down to McLouth or Damon, I’d definitely rather Nate.
I dont see the braves giving damon a second year but a mutual option might work.
February 3rd, 20105:49 pm
Just bought an excellent debut CD from San Diego band called The Soft Pack. Really energetic, stripped-down, garage-rock/punk vibe. Driving guitar and great voice on the cynical young fella fronting the band. They’ve got a Strokes vibe, but with West Coast surf-rock influence, and that’s a good thing. Good stuff. Glad that Warren, the Decatur CD owner, gave it his thumbs-up or I might not have bought it….
Also got the new Midlake album, though I haven’t played it yet. I have their last two and really liked both, saw a great review of this one in the new Paste magazine.
February 3rd, 20105:50 pm
Does Nate have a new number yet?
February 3rd, 20105:52 pm
DOB,would that BBQ in Kissimmee be Fat Boys BBQ? They have a good rating.
You are so great. How could I forget … “He’s taken girls across state lines … that’s the Mann act!” ….
Sharkey’s Machine is way solid. Just watched it again not long ago.
And I am kicking myself for leaving out the best Burt Reynolds movie of all time. “The Longest Yard.” Filmed in southeast Georgia and they used (so the coach said) the equipment from our high school. Richard Kiel (”Jaws” in the Bond movies) married a girl from Glennville or Reidsville, I heard, whom he met down there.
Reynolds’ “The Longest Yard” >>>> Sandler’s “The Longest Yard.”
It wasn’t so much a comedy as it was a drama with comedic touches and flourishes. Reynolds was at the zenith of his broad appeal at the time. Men wanted to be him, women wanted to be with him. And the great opening scene, with Skynyrd’s “Saturday Night Special” blaring as he races through downtown Savannah … awesome.
And of the best climactic lines of all time:
“We’ve come too far together to stop now. For Granny. For Nate. For Caretaker …. Let’s do it.”
February 3rd, 20105:53 pm
I meant to say you are so right instead. But if you need the self-esteem boost today, I’ll be happy to oblige.
February 3rd, 20105:55 pm
Dobi riding his motorbike, nice… snowed here today, looks great against my red dogwood..
but my ass..le dog peed on the missus’ new couch…. he is in big doo doo…
Jay – re Boyz in the Hood…. loved that movie, wasn’t it starring a very young and thin CUBA GOODING
February 3rd, 20105:57 pm
No Mom and Pop ( there is a Bubba’s Bodacious BBQ which is sadly lacking both in quality and cleanliness) BBQ places in our end of Orlando (East Colonial). If one needs a Q fix, though, you could do much worse than Smokey Bones. They have pretty good pulled pork and good slaw.
February 3rd, 20106:00 pm
Dobi – My old record store does NOT have the remastered Earle album..err I mean cd. think I wil look to download it onto my pc instead…
February 3rd, 20106:01 pm
CB: That’s the one. Fat Boys BBQ. Mom-and-pop place, good BBQ, real friendly staff.
February 3rd, 20106:02 pm
We just got a Longhorn Steakhouse here. anyone ever eat there?
February 3rd, 20106:03 pm
Lew – BBQ in Orlando, there is an excellent place north east up near Winter Springs.. see if I can find the business card and post details here
Smokey and the Bandit – wow, a blast from my youth… my mum loved Burt Reynolds.. (who didnt) and I found Jackie Gleason to be hilarious….. just loved that movie (was it set in GA ???)
Dogsbrekky, give Warren at Decatur CD a call, he’ll ship that bad boy to you in no time. He’s got a terrific selection, and if he doesn’t have something in stock, he usually can get it within 24 hours. (404) 371-9090
February 3rd, 20106:06 pm
DoB do u ever get a chance to go to charlies steak house?
i love that place!
February 3rd, 20106:07 pm
Yes, Cubs was very thin back then.
February 3rd, 20106:09 pm
CB, not far from Fat Boys BBQ, there’s an excellent Cuban restaurant called Havana’s Cafe. The real thing, all the way. It’s on 192 (W. Vine St.), same as the BBQ place. Down toward the Old Town part of Kissimmee. There’s also a good Italian restaurant right next door to the Cuban joint.
thanks DOBI, will call right now, excellent stuff, I really prefer hard copies so I can take it around with me (old fashioned like that) rather then downloading
the BBQ place I mentioned is
Uncle Jones Bar-B-Que
Jay – Cuba seems like such a great bloke, his personality just shines through
225 Central Street, Altamonte Spgs,
Eric: Charley’s is good, but the line is usually just ridiculous. We waited over an hour one night. Said never again.
DOB.thanks. I have it on my to do list while at spring training games. Are we allowed to stop by and say hello to you? I will be there first three games at Dark Star.
February 3rd, 20106:14 pm
CB, if you see me on the field or in the dugout, or if you’re near the batting cages early in the morning (lot of people line up there for autographs), just get my attention. I’ll be glad to come over to the fence or whatever and say hello.
February 3rd, 20106:15 pm
Dobi – excellent, spoke to Warren, the cd is in the mail to me in NY… woo hoo
February 3rd, 20106:17 pm
Dob Im definately going to say hi to you this year @ spring training
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
