McLouth has no reason to be nervous if they sign Damon because Damon isn’t going to be playing CF and the only one who would be nervous would be Cabrera or possibly Diaz but most likely Cabrera. McLouth is going nowhere. We would’ve gave away a good prospect like Gorkys for nothing then. Hopefully we aren’t signing Damon though because I’m ready for the Free Heyward era to start.

fargondbrave – And I don’t think that Miller’s Crossing get the love it deserves. Lots to focus on in the Coen’s canon, but Miller’s Crossing is really special. John Turturro has moved toward comedies lately, but his performance in that movie was nothing short of jaw-dropping.

Haven’t seen Wizard of Oz mentioned in anybody’s top movies. It wasn’t in mine because I fell out of love with it after watching about 200 times during school. But, it’s one of the movies that started it all. 1939 was a looooooong time ago.

How could I forget Indiana Jones series? Harrison Ford is terrific. Amoung others, I love Air Force One, The Fugitive, Presumed Innocent, Reguarding Henry, Six Days Seven Nights, and American Graffiti, which is great with or without Ford.

OK, someone else asked Frank the Damon question. He basically said he felt good about our current outfield but if there was someone out there that might help our team, and a deal could get done…they would be open to it. Not a yes, but not a NO.

Yes. Very interesting and eye opening. I think that is one of Rosario Dawson’s first flicks. I saw “Wassup Rockers” too, by the same director. Not that great of a flick compared to KIDS.

DAVBRAVES, I wouldn’t get too excited about Damon. I just read an article that mentiones a possible hangup between Boras and Tigers might be a second year. The writer thinks $7m,one-year deal would get it done. If so, no way Braves shell out 7mill. and I don’t think they’ll go two years with Schafer and Heyward right around the corner.
This writer could be way off, but he’s says there’s a strong feeling about this.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned the Police Academy series.
I’m also a HUGE John Wayne fan,,,,..always have been and always will be..and like ALL of his flicks…but I think if I had to pick one…it would either be McLintock OR North To Alaska with maybe El Dorado getting honorable mention as my favorite John Wayne movie.
The Cowboys was also a great flick too…with him teaching a bunch of younger boys the ins and outs of the west and moving cattle.

TnBrian- No on Wizard of Oz for me because that movie has always scared the hell out of me. I’m a 28 year old dude and I still can’t watch it by myself.
joerochester- No on KIDS because it was OVERacted to me. I enjoyed it when I was in high school but saw it again recently and thought it was over the top in a lot of areas. A movie the same guy directed called Bully is a true story and equally raw. You might want to check it out.

Interesting point. I don’t understand teams. If no other team is willing to go higher than 3M, then why would you offer 7M, and not 5M?

Wouldn’t we assume Granderson is probably a better piece to a puzzle now and down the road and has a brighter upside than Damon? Then again, I have no prior experience within this business…

The only John Wayne film that I really liked was “The Shootist.”
I am much more of a “Spaghetti” western fan than a fan of conventional westerns.
Although “Shane,” “High Noon,” “Once upon a time in the West” and “Big Country” sit on my list of multiple-watch movies.
Among my “most favorite” on westerns would be “The Outlaw Josey Wales,” “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” and my all time favorite, “My Name is Nobody.”
Westerns that I never want to see again … “Dances with Wolves,” “Unforgiven,” and “Pale Rider.”
Western that I wish I could erase from my brain cells “The Last Hard Men.”

Seriously, the Police Academy movies have to be some of the worst movies ever. They really have no story and are very unrealistic. But, I think you watch bad movies like that for certain funny scenes. Yes, I’ve seen them all, but times get boring, you know?
Funniest line in any of those movies is when Cpt. Harris tells Proctor in part 4 when he’s playing with his collision balls, “Hey, get away from those … don’t you ever touch my balls without asking!”

i dont really see how the tigers have a spot for damon anyways. at least not a every-day spot. ryan raburn and magglio ordonez are not going to become bench players, and those are the corner guys. they already have carlos guillen and clete thomas backing up the corners.
the only way it might make sense is if damon is going to DH. i just dont see that.

Interesting-Just read rank Wren’s monthly column in Chop Talk. He talks about the way the team is made up (Glaus WILL hit cleanup between Chipper and McCann-Bobby said he was consulted on everything in HIS column). He also talked about Melky platooning at all three outfield spots and that deals were done -unless something turned up to help improve the team. HMMMMMM.

I’m indifferent on Johnny Damon coming to the Braves. He would improve the team, although the Braves would likely have to part with someone (Cabrera, Diaz, or very unlikely McLouth).
As things stand, it looks like the future outfield might be McLouth, Schafer, Heyward, Cabrera (4th).
I really like Diaz. He has improved his defensive skills enormously since first coming to the Braves. I would love to see him take on a future role with the Braves. But, he’s never going to be a center fielder, which makes him somewhat more expendable than Cabrera.
If the Braves get Damon, I suppose the opening day roster might look like Damon, McLouth, Cabrera, Diaz.
If the Braves don’t get Damon, I guess the opening day roster is Diaz, McLouth, Cabrera, ?.

Enough of the Damon talk. He will not be a Brave. I can not understand why you are all up in arms over something that would never happen. The cheap Braves aren’t shelling out the money for Damon. And why would you want him anyway. A horrible defense player, who hopes to be traded mid season to the Yankees. Why would you want someone on your team, that really doesn’t want to be there, and wants to rejoin the Yankees during the season. Damon to the Tigers. It will happen. Who knows, he may even wind up wearing orange and blue.

A. Braves don’t sign Damon
B. Heyward starts in AAA
C. Injuries
D. As DOB has mentioned before, it gives the Braves a trade chip when Heyward may be on his way to the majors in Melky Cabrera…to pick up say…a fresh arm out of the pen?

If Damon wants to be traded mid-season to the Yankees, he might be a perfect fit for the Braves. They can sign him for $7M, but trade him mid way (encumbering only $3.5M) when Heyward is ready to make his debut.

George C. Scott was just mesmerizing as Patton, even if he there was a huge dissimilarities (Scott had that gravely, gruff voice while Patton, who was 6-3 or 6-4 in real life and once an Olympic caliber athlete, had a high-pitched voice by comparison.)
George C also was great in “Dr. Strangelove,” as Slim Pickens. Still need to see Scott in “The Flim Flam Man.”
