jeffrey d,buy your dog a pee-pee pad.
January 23rd, 20106:37 pm
O’Brien– I don’t think any response is necessary…. You pretty much explained it all.
I like some good tunes, but judging by those lyrics, sounds like you’re a different life form all together. Good day to you sir, and I hope you get some help.
January 23rd, 20106:43 pm
My top 5 would be:
Will probably be more like this:
January 23rd, 20106:50 pm
Mr.J-It was at the Sub and Steak at Five Points-had a poster of Herschel breaking the SEC scoring record in Yudi’s. They were actually two brothers who owned the place-their names were Bob and Lance Uhde. Lance owned Yudi’s across from the arch. Bob got nailed for making book at his place.
Painted the SEC mascots eating subs and the like and got free food for the family for a month. In grad school, you do what you need to make some bucks. I don’t thinkl it’s there anymore, but heard about it for years after.
January 23rd, 20106:55 pm
Think I’ll find out if my Clemson Tigers are men or boys tonight. Duke off a loss, and there are few better than Coach K at getting his team ready after one. Tigers got run out of the gym in Durham this year (just like they ran Duke out of Littlejohn last year), so they ought to be plenty ticked. Especially after blowing a winnable road game in Atlanta this week. And nobody talks about it much, but, trust me on this: Littlejohn is a brutal place to play on the road. Just…brutal.
So, the planets seem aligned for a pretty interesting game. Time for the Tigers to prove out.
January 23rd, 20106:57 pm
Heath, if I were voting a top 5 right now, I’d go:
January 23rd, 20107:02 pm
DOB, what kinda player do you see Schafer as? Is he more the guy we saw in spring training or the guy that wont make contact enough to be an impact type of player? Or is he some where in between?
It just seems to me that if he is even minor impact player, I cant see too much of a future for Matt Diaz as his salary continues to rise through arbitration…
January 23rd, 20107:05 pm
Gonna be switchin’ over to the Isner/Murray tennis match in a couple of minutes….
January 23rd, 20107:07 pm
January 23rd, 2010
Great minds think alike.
January 23rd, 20107:10 pm
It must have been Lance, then, if Bob had to go away. I didn’t know him- he was in to see if my mother was around. My mom and dad had a business on E. Clayton St. in the early 90’s, and my mom ate lunch at Yudi’s frequently. I think they would sing the blues to each other about whose business was worse. Anyway, the guy’s in some other business now, but happened to be in the neighborhood.
January 23rd, 20107:13 pm
Kentucky did manage to beat that Connecticut team that just laid the wood to #1 Texas.
I wouldn’t give too much credence to Duke’s opponents, per any computer rankings. Krzyzewski knows how to “game” the schedule with the best of them.
He rarely plays a true road game, and he owns the ACC officials.
There is a reason why Duke has melted down in the NCAA tournament consistently since 2005. Krzyzewski doesn’t have tough players, and he doesn’t get them toughened up during the season.
January 23rd, 20107:14 pm
Redstick19, you (and I, and many/most/damn near everyone) might not think homers are the only way to win a ballgame, but Bobby Cox and the corpse of Earl Weaver disagree wholeheartedly. Which is why we don’t really need Damon; he wouldn’t get the green light anyway. We need eight Adam Dunn’s.
Go Dawgs! I detest college basketball, but I’m happy if even our equestrian team beats Tennessee. Come to think of it, they usually do. As does our gym team, and tennis. And now that we’ve got a legit DC maybe our football team will too.
January 23rd, 20107:18 pm
When Isner is playing in the near court (tv broadcasting-wise)…he looks like a giant!
It just seems to me that if he is even minor impact player, I cant see too much of a future for Matt Diaz as his salary continues to rise through arbitration…CURT
Diaz has never gone to arbitration. He accepts a below his value deal every year. not sure where you get your info from
January 23rd, 20107:22 pm
Heath – Tribe just went from 7-7 to a 14-7 lead on Old Dominion – shooting seems better than Wednesday so far…
I think its funny how Cashman came out and straight up said, we arent signing Damon unless he accepts a low offer and the GM for the Tigers says, we have no interest whatsoever in Damon. Yet, when we ask Frank Wren about Damon, he only says, we like this team as constructed. He never answers the question directly, kind of side steps it all the time, which makes me wonder if he has made an offer and is just keeping it secret.
January 23rd, 20107:28 pm
Keep me posted…watchin’ Australian Open match Isner/Murray.
January 23rd, 20107:29 pm
That sucks that your office is gonna be moved to the Top-end Perimeter area… And what really sucks it that 285 doesn’t have HOV lanes
check out this youtube video of top end perimeter the music is usually pretty good on these videos
January 23rd, 20107:36 pm
Tennis announcer on DirecTV extra channels for the Australian Open is funny…. “Fred….lives down in Boca Vista with Frank Costanza’s parents.”
January 23rd, 20107:37 pm
CB – It’s not like my dog having to pee blew those games for us. Pick your scapegoat – Bobby, Liberty, Francoeur, Wren, Norton, Loaf, Lentz, KJ…what am I missing?
January 23rd, 20107:38 pm
CB – It’s not like my dog having to pee blew those games for us. Pick your scapegoat – Bobby, Liberty, Francoeur, Wren, Norton, Loaf, Paul L., KJ…what am I missing?
Eric from MO
January 23rd, 20107:48 pm
DOB that is how I would rank them too. Actually I would put Kansas number one so when my Tigers win this week they will have beaten the number one team in the country…just kidding…sorta…
Heath – W&M up 26-22 at the half…
January 23rd, 20107:50 pm
OJ I consider that as the thing as saying we have no interest in Damon. Just worded differently. I think Braves fan are lieing to themselves when they think we will actually sign him. Could be wrong, but doubt it.
January 23rd, 20107:51 pm
If you were making the call, how careful would you be this spring to make the right one on Heyward?
Glad you asked DOB.
If I had to make the call, Heyward would start the year in AAA for several reasons. First, the team still operates on a corporate budget, and have young players like Jurrjens, Hanson, and maybe even Freeman/Schafer to consider in long-term contracts down the road. Delaying Heywards arb-eligibility has contractual benefits and flexibility down the road.
Second, and I hate this argument, the dude still has less than 500 ab above A ball.
My third argument: I like the idea of playing both Diaz and Cabrera in the outfield to start the year. One reason is because I really think Melky is going to be a good player for us. Also, you give Melky a chance to play well so that he and/or Schafer can be showcased for a potential trade later in the year.
And lastly, it gives Schafer a chance to prove himself as well. If he plays well his first month in AAA, then why not let him play a month here before Heyward’s arb clock date?
I hate the argument of making a player season in the minors. If he’s ready, he’s ready. But in Heyward’s case, there’s other factors I mentioned above that I think just make sense here.
Steve from OH
January 23rd, 20107:58 pm
Bobby’s–I agree with your first two points, but I don’t really like Melky as a starter for us very much at all. I’m more concerned about the financial risk of promoting him early. If he’s amenable to a long-term contract, then fine, open 2010 with him. I think he’s probably ready now, but I do agree that some PT in AAA in April won’t hurt him at all, but IMO it is a huge risk to promote him early without signing him long-term. Hell, I’d sign him long-term today if he’d accept a Longoria-type deal.

U-C-O-N-N UCONN UCONN UCONN!!!! HUSKIES
January 23rd, 20108:04 pm
wow what a game south carolina almost beat florida but a buzzer beater 3 lifts the gators. What a game and south carolina played them tough all the way.
Damn good game on espn. Great shot by Florida.
Brandon from Warner Robins
Chandler Parsons from Florida hits another game winner. Not another 70 footer. but still impressive.
January 23rd, 20108:09 pm
The Big East didn’t need this ego boost
I like Duke to avenge last seasons blow out loss to Clemson at Littlejohn tonight. Especially after losing to NC State. Coach K will have the Devils ready to battle.
January 23rd, 20108:10 pm
who read the story in the nyt today abo ut the Oakland A’s 23 y old prospect who hit 30 HR and stole a bunch of bases in A Ball last year, wentto the AZ Fall League where he was MVP, gave it all up this week to become a Catholic priest.
January 23rd, 20108:13 pm
Double Fault costs Isner… Murray takes the first set in a tie-break.
January 23rd, 20108:14 pm
January 23rd, 20108:15 pm
Coach K will have the Devils ready to battle.
No doubt about that. But some real good friends of mine are Clemson students/alum, so I’m pulling for them tonight
Ok The blog is dead tonight so I started a post on the Phillies forum stating the R&B
artists and I’m gonna do it on here
In No particular order
Boyz II Men
Al B Sure
The list goes on…Thoughts…?
January 23rd, 20108:16 pm
I might be alone on this, but I can’t stand Dick Vitale’s. That voice…
January 23rd, 20108:18 pm
I agree I can’t stand Vitale another reason I refuse to watch BSPN!
January 23rd, 20108:19 pm
Jeffrey D…Another reason I refuse to watch BSPN is Vitale
Concur on the dislike of Vitale. He is too busy pimping books or his love for a team that is not actually in the game.
January 23rd, 20108:20 pm
It’s awesomeeee baby
January 23rd, 20108:21 pm
Duke will have trouble with Clemson’s quickness and size/strength though I would never bet against a Coach K team
Cheese egg casserole.
January 23rd, 20108:22 pm
I enjoy listening to Vitale call a ballgame.

January 23rd, 20108:23 pm
How about Mark Fox and the Dawgs dropping Tennessee!!!
Any Isner updates?
January 23rd, 20108:25 pm
January 23rd, 20108:29 pm
Good for him. If that’s what makes him happy, then he’s made a great choice. It’s like they always say, if you enjoy what you do you’ll never work a day in your life…
January 23rd, 20108:32 pm
Yay God? Jeff D
January 23rd, 20108:33 pm
I agree with Steve. Baseball isn’t the “right” profession even though it may seem so because it’s the profession that will directly affect us.
Or who knows…maybe him becoming a priest will directly affect us too.
January 23rd, 20108:35 pm
I would guess you are a youngster?
January 23rd, 20108:36 pm
Murray is up 1 set to nil. On serve in the second set, isner serving 2 games to 3.
January 23rd, 20108:37 pm
Heath – tied up, just over three to go…
If you consider 19 to be young, then yeah.
Yeah, that’s young, Brandon. I’m pushing 50
January 23rd, 20108:38 pm
If you consider 19 to be young, then yeah. BfromWarnerRobbins
ummm hell to the yeah that is young
Your enjoyment of Vitale gives it away.
January 23rd, 20108:39 pm
what I would give to be 19 again, well 21 actually
anyone, just see that recap of the last time Duke played in Clemson? I loved how Bilas just said “there’ll be blood on the floor in the next practice”. I guess Duke doesn’t practice hard all the time. No wonder, they’re so soft.
January 23rd, 20108:40 pm
Not surprised Brandon enjoys hearing Dickie V. Last year, when Kentucky and Carolina were playing hoops, at the sports bar in Denver where Carolina fans hang out, some UK fans were there, too. We had a bet on which coach Dickie V would pimp for more in the game: Coach K or Pitino. (K won … barely.)
I enjoyed the announcer swap Wednesday (even though the Heels lost), because Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy actually described the game that was taking place before them. Vitale could be attending a dog show for all the viewer would know.
‘youth is wasted on the young’?
January 23rd, 20108:41 pm
i think i saw someone mentioned they think Duke manipulates their schedule. I totally agree. Only three true road games? Seriously. It’s almost February.
I think it was George Bernard Shaw, but I could be wrong
January 23rd, 20108:42 pm
Isner was picking just about everything aroundt he net against Monfils….can’t buy a pick today against Murray.
January 23rd, 20108:44 pm
Only three true road games? Seriously. It’s almost February.
Why does it matter? Unlike college football, the best team is going to prove itself in the tourney
January 23rd, 20108:45 pm
i think it was Oscar…Wilde
g’night all…pray for the priest.
January 23rd, 20108:46 pm
Keep your pants on, T’hawkin
Enjoy it while you can being 19…!
Nothing like seeing young freshman college women that young…!
January 23rd, 20108:47 pm
I like this little time glitch on the blog. Makes me look prophetic
January 23rd, 20108:48 pm
Thats the best part about college
Heath – down 1, 11 seconds left, ODU at the line…
January 23rd, 20108:49 pm
Isner looks bad today…. Murray up a set and now up a break in the 2nd set….serving for the set.
January 23rd, 20108:50 pm
I don’t even think that moment of silence was a whole second long
jeffrey d -
to me it matters. I’m definitely not a Duke fan (went to Maryland), but at shouldn’t a national power act like a national power. Coach K is doing his players a disservice. They go to Duke, to go to the NBA. But his scheduling prevents them from maximizing their talents. They’re not battle-tested and a player truly develops in hostile environments.
January 23rd, 20108:51 pm
Isner looks bad today…. Murray up a set and now up a break in the 2nd set….serving for the set. Heath
WOW so, like, totally amazing
and the Tribe falls by 3
January 23rd, 20108:52 pm
wow. that was quick moment of silence.
January 23rd, 20108:53 pm
how can coach k not question his scheduling as his teams continually get gutted in the second round of the tournament
BTW, did anyone see this scouting report on Sarge Jr. that Buster Olney reprinted?
“Matthews is a player to be avoided. Slow bat. Declining range. And above all else, a player who wants to be a regular and will be an unhappy distraction in your clubhouse when he’s not in the lineup every day.”
Ladies and gentlemen, your New York Mets opening day centerfielder.
January 23rd, 20108:54 pm
Sorry to hear about the tough loss VJ.
WW is coming to Macon. I can’t wait.
add an E to the WW.
Cold Stove -
Can’t tell you are mocking me or what…
January 23rd, 20108:56 pm
Basically over now…. Murray up 2 sets to 0.
no heath. I admire the passion you have for what I can tell to be every sport under the sun
January 23rd, 20108:58 pm
anyone want to tell me how you post a link in blue so someone can click it and got to your link?
January 23rd, 20108:59 pm
Me and Heath couldn’t talk for the longest time because of that nasty UGA/Kentucky badminton rivalry
January 23rd, 20109:01 pm
Cold Stove–either just post the URL (i.e.–www.espn.com) and it’ll show up in blue. Or, do this:
To link, use this format: (a href=”url to be linked”)whatever you want the link to say(/a href).
Instead of parentheses, use the greater than/less than signs.
(a href=”www.espn.com”)ESPN(/a href)
January 23rd, 20109:02 pm
Ladies and gentlemen, your New York Mets opening day centerfielder. Piedmont
at least he will likely be a regular
Or you can just do
Oh…. well, I don’t admire “every” sport… but I don enjoy tennis during the major events.
How many Americans are left in the Aussie Open?
January 23rd, 20109:04 pm
Heath – I had a double loss for my two teams on Wednesday – need the Devils to help me avoid another one tonight…
18 Wheels of Love
January 23rd, 20109:05 pm
I’m late to the party but I see DOB was busting some Pauls Boutiqueup in here. Very nice! Did anyone else get that or was it just me?
Got busy in Frisco, fooled around in Fresno, got over on your gilrlie cause you know she never says no. Just get on the mic, get on the mic, Mike.
What a great album….hope their new one is good.
In the sweet 16 so to speak…only Isner and Roddick left on the men’s side. Same for the women (William’s sisters)
January 23rd, 20109:09 pm
