I love El Nino! It’s been a powderlicious winter season. All this snowboarding eases the pain of no Braves games. I’m carving myself to spring training . Onward to more mountains….
Train Wreck: Fisherman’s Blues is a great album (and the two-disc version they put out a while back has some worthwhile additional stuff.) I remember playing that original LP — yes, vinyl — to death back in 1989, soundtrack to some good times in a lost (but really fun) year living in Newport Beach, Calif. Man, we were young and stupid.
If you’ve not heard their earlier stuff, the “Big Music” period Waterboys, you really should try it. That stuff’s so very strong, especially their second and third albums, A Pagan Place and This Is The Sea.
No, can’t imagine Braves carrying three catchers, not when they’ve already got one of the best backup catchers in baseball. As Nolie pointed out, it restricts options too much; they’re made it a point to get versatile bench guys.
I am slightly familiar with some older Waterboys stuff (”The Whole of the Moon” comes to mind). “Dream Harder” is good in spots, but it also has that godawful “Corn Circles” track on it.
Speaking of MSU, have I ever told you guys about their coach Rick Stansbury? He grew up about 10 minutes from me and went the same high school… Pretty cool huh?
Man what a come back by the Pack, only to be stopped short. I really can’t see many teams in the ACC beating Clemson. But who knows? UNC will obviously get things turned around, they have a great coach. Duke is still consistent. Looks like a fun year in the ACC!!
Great weekend for sports. Hopefully Braves make it stronger and sign Johnny D.
Hey, I actually grew up with his family… a bunch of us use to play ball together “back in the day”…so, gotta route for him. Just so happens he was coaching against UGA today.
Actually, I’ve come to terms with UNC having an off-season. It’s losing by a few points to an ACC school that had me frustrated. I didn’t break anything though, aren’t you proud of me?
I sure would like to hear about some of the MLB players from the Dominican Republic joining in the efforts to help out the Hatian people. They share the island of Hispanola with Haiti with Haiti on the western half and the DR on the eastern. Players like Manny Ramirez make more per year playing baseball than the GNP of Haiti is. Of all the places I have been in the Caribbean, Haiti is by far the poorest.
DOB, Thanks for your earlier response about Diaz and Cabrera. You are right, Diaz is the overall better hitter, especially against lefties. We will see how it all plays out…

Run it right, and you can’t hardly even defend it, period. Best play in basketball, if the screener isn’t lazy.
I really can’t see many teams in the ACC beating Clemson.
Nate, I wish, LOL. Tigers don’t really have a second go-to scorer, though Stitt has really improved his offensive game. But drop on Booker and have an off-night from three, and the Tigers are going to have problems in the half-court. Clem Tech didn’t get much out of the press today, though, and still got in the 70s, so I guess I can’t complain, LOL.
Soph, don’t worry about the Heels. Those suckers are so young, they’re bound to have some problems this year. Give ‘em a year and add Harrison Barnes, and they’ll be brutes again. And mad, to boot, LOL.
Just teasin’ ya a little. Georgia made a darn good hire for their basketball team. They have been in every one of their conference games…their 0-3 conference record doesn’t really do them justice.
Two problems remain….Florida in football and Kentucky in basketball. Tough luck for ya.
haha, you’re right, but neither are insurmountable. Richt’s been able to beat Florida twice, and I know we’ve beaten UK in basketball a few times in recent years (and somehow won the SEC a couple years ago). I know you’re just talking some friendly smack, but just because both programs have had some elite success in the past couple years doesn’t mean that UGA is facing hard times
I hope that Glavine will join the Braves in some position. It would not have been right to leave things as they were left. Really I don’t care where or what Smoltz end up doing. He burned his bridges when there was no reason to disrespect the Braves since he got what he wanted in Boston.
