Moylan will prolly get around 1 mil next season that would be doubling is salary from last season. He’s woprth more than 1 for sure tho.

Thanks for the new blog, DOB, as well as the always interesting, eclectic mix of subject matter.
After your review, I’m even more anxious to see “Crazy Heart”. And–as for Shaver–my first country music album purchase was Waylon Jennings’ “Honky Tonk Heroes” during junior high school, an album chock-full of Shaver compositions. I bought the re-mastered version on CD years ago and still pull it out every couple of months

As for the Hall Of Fame, I thought Alomar was a lock, more deserving than Dawson. In your opinion, does “the spitting incident” still hold so much weight that voters, in essence, said, “Let’s let him wait a while”, as a kind of punishment?

I really don’t know. I just think his name would have come out long ago. He was a marginal player.
A marginal player from another country, where the topic isn’t so politicized, and where the government ain’t focusing so much time, money and labor to crack down on it. If you cycle while home wherever home is during the offseason in Latin America, or while playing in one of those winter leagues down there, it’s harder to catch you unless you mistime your cycle and fail a drug test while back here in America. If you are an American ordering and using it here in America, the FBI, DEA and DOJ just may catch you. Most of the people named are those revealed by American law enforcement, or those who got sloppy in their cycling and failed a drug screen.

Ah yes, there just are not many more pleasant ways to spend part of an afternoon than in the dentist’s chair being fitted for a crown.
Even if your dentist is a gorgeous woman, like mine, it still a bad way to spend part of the day. Especially now after the novocaine wears off. Not aching pain or anything, just annoying discomfort.
Fortunately, a nice enough day with no traffic, so I got to ride my motorcycle before and after.

Agreed. I even hired a guy to jump out with me and video with me. He was within 5-10 feet of me and you couldn’t hear a word I was sayin’ because of the sound of the wind even though I was screamin’ at the top of my lungs. I thought that I would be scared…but I really wasn’t. I just looked out of the plane….looked at the altimeter (13,000 ft) and jumped out.

Haggard 1: You’re gonna love Crazy Heart, I guarantee that. And Jeff Bridgers’ character, Bad Blake, will remind you of Shaver. More closely resembles Waylon in appearance, but his demeanor and such reminds me of Shaver.

GoBraves123: Yes, Once was a great movie, and soundtrack. He did a second album with the Czech girl, his co-star. This one’s about their breakup, and it’s almost as good an album as the first one. Not quite, doesn’t have any songs that really jump out like the first one (the soundtrack to the movie), but it’s solid.
And as Barrett mentioned, Hansard’s full-time gig is with The Frames, a rock band from Dublin that’s been around quite a while.

Great! Oh, one more thing; for years Robert Duvall has talked of producing/directing a movie based on the life of Merle Haggard. Due to his close involvement with “Crazy Heart”, do you think it’s his “Haggard movie.
I’ve been a Bridges fan for quite a while–both Beau and Jeff– and especially like his performances in “The Fabulous Baker Boys”, “Tucker”, “Seabiscuit” as well as a few others I’m overlooking.
And Billy Jo Shaver was great, I thought, in “The Prophet”.

Bat agreed, sky diving provided a tremondous rush that lasted for hours. Highly recommend it, especially if you are young, single with no children. What a cool date that would be. Imagine the sex afterward!

I don’t know. There is a plethora of outfielders out there. I forgot Randy Wynn and Ankiel are out there too. I could see the Yankees giving him a one-year deal for $1M as a fourth outfielder option or platoon with Brett Gardner.

I hope they sign Moylan to a 2 or 3 year contract worth about 2 million a year. I mean, what else does the guy have to prove to show he is worth it?? He has shown year in and out, even after surgery, that he is as durable and reliable as they come. Hell, the man has an ERA of 2.45 in his short career so far and when there are runners on base, I know there is nobody I want out there more than Moylan. Man has shown time after time he is good in the clutch.
Just give him a multi year contract already

i know texas only got the #1 spot by default since kansas lost, but i’m kinda hoping they hang on to it. i don’t particularly want kentucky having that target on their back.
teams just really get a bit extra pumped up against #1 more than they do #2 for some reason

Darren might be a little off base, but people should realize how good the ‘Cuse is. Wes Johnson is a legit POY candidate. He can do it all- score, rebound, defend, shoot the three, etc. They are so balanced, it will take an off day from many players to lose. Whether it is Wes, Rautins, Triche, Onuaku, Kris Joseph, or Jackson, they have people that can step up to win a game in the closing seconds. They are the best defensive team at the Cuse in years. No team since ‘03 with Melo, GMac, Hakim Warrick, Josh Pace, and Billy Edelin have they played together so well, and we all know what happened back then.

I can’t say if McGwire would have hit homeruns of 550 + feet. Mantle owns the record for longest, I think at like 565 feet. It’s so hard to say what made McGwire better… how he improved his swing or Steroids, or both. Probably a little of both. And it’s very hard for me to believe that many hitters of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s were not using amphetimines if not steroids in some form. I’m not saying Mantle in particular…
It’s very difficult to know which players have taken PEDs. I mean steroids have been around since the late 20’s or early 30’s. Amphetimines have been around since the beginning of the 1900’s. And yes, I believe amphetimines are “PEDs” like steroids. Who knows what advantage each has, but if it does, not everyone was taking them.
A former Braves pitcher, Tom House (played in 60’s & 70’s) has claimed that guys would do anything for an “edge” including horse steroids during his days in the league.
Therefore, I can’t say for certain the records from the 50’s, 60’s & 70’s were not accomplished while using steroids or amphetimines or anything else.
The one thing that really urks me about all this steroid stuff is that they are talked about like some wonder PED… like if I were to start taking them now at age 35, I would be able to hit homeruns for my beloved Braves. Most college greats or minor league greats would not be able to do what McGwire, Palmeiro, Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, Gonzalez, and others of the 90’s were able to do.

XBox rules are the same way…you are better of sending it in and letting them give you feedback before you do anything. I mean, if you knew for sure it was just some stupid fuse you could get at RadioShack…yeah, fix it yourself….but like you said, you have to open it and break the seal to find out. Not worth the risk.

Freezing. The startup would freeze. Games and DVD’s. You could put them in and then the system would freeze. Luckily both were covered by warranty. It broke the first time right around 3 months then 11 months later. They fixed it both times for free. Lucky for me.
