Thanks for the new blog, DOB, as well as the always interesting, eclectic mix of subject matter.
After your review, I’m even more anxious to see “Crazy Heart”. And–as for Shaver–my first country music album purchase was Waylon Jennings’ “Honky Tonk Heroes” during junior high school, an album chock-full of Shaver compositions. I bought the re-mastered version on CD years ago and still pull it out every couple of months
“Down the road a ways I’ve heard say a new day’s comin’ on
Where the women folks are friendly and the law leaves you alone,
I’ll believe it when I see it and I haven’t seen it yet,
Don’t mind me just keep on a talkin’ I’m just lookin’ for my hat.”
Will never forget standing in line to see my all-time favorite–Merle Haggard–in Athens on the afternoon of February 13th, 2002 when word began circulating that Jennings had died earlier that day.
As for the Hall Of Fame, I thought Alomar was a lock, more deserving than Dawson. In your opinion, does “the spitting incident” still hold so much weight that voters, in essence, said, “Let’s let him wait a while”, as a kind of punishment?

Dave–finally got to see There Will be Blood yesterday after hearing the good things you had to say about it. I agree–great movie. Definitely worth seeing if you haven’t seen it already…

hilarious vid eh? the “second attempt” is even better.
and Braveheart, nice job on McCann. VOAP is not to be underrated.

though Fat Francesa has to bring it up at least once a day on the FAN just to poke a stick in the Mets eye.
I can’t wait to hear him yell at Jets fans all week about how the Colts are going to crush them(I think it’ll be a close game, actually).
January 18th, 20107:35 pm
I really don’t know. I just think his name would have come out long ago. He was a marginal player.
A marginal player from another country, where the topic isn’t so politicized, and where the government ain’t focusing so much time, money and labor to crack down on it. If you cycle while home wherever home is during the offseason in Latin America, or while playing in one of those winter leagues down there, it’s harder to catch you unless you mistime your cycle and fail a drug test while back here in America. If you are an American ordering and using it here in America, the FBI, DEA and DOJ just may catch you. Most of the people named are those revealed by American law enforcement, or those who got sloppy in their cycling and failed a drug screen.

January 18th, 20107:55 pm
I’ve done a lot of wild things in my life, but nothing comes close to the rush.
January 18th, 20107:57 pm
Anders Trust me I know. You’ve dug up days old posts about your boy that I’ve written in the past.
Heh heh heh heh…
You are one faithful fan.
Thank you! But I believe you mean “fann“.

Ah yes, there just are not many more pleasant ways to spend part of an afternoon than in the dentist’s chair being fitted for a crown.
Even if your dentist is a gorgeous woman, like mine, it still a bad way to spend part of the day. Especially now after the novocaine wears off. Not aching pain or anything, just annoying discomfort.
Fortunately, a nice enough day with no traffic, so I got to ride my motorcycle before and after.
January 18th, 20108:00 pm
Agreed. I even hired a guy to jump out with me and video with me. He was within 5-10 feet of me and you couldn’t hear a word I was sayin’ because of the sound of the wind even though I was screamin’ at the top of my lungs. I thought that I would be scared…but I really wasn’t. I just looked out of the plane….looked at the altimeter (13,000 ft) and jumped out.
January 18th, 20108:03 pm
Haggard 1: You’re gonna love Crazy Heart, I guarantee that. And Jeff Bridgers’ character, Bad Blake, will remind you of Shaver. More closely resembles Waylon in appearance, but his demeanor and such reminds me of Shaver.
January 18th, 20108:05 pm
John, the Furcal matter will have no effect on Moylan’s situation, I’m assured. They’ll swap salary figures tomorrow, and I’d expect they’ll settle near the midway point.
January 18th, 20108:08 pm
Ha, I hear you Heath. I did the video deal too. I made a tandem jump at a small airport in Waycross, Ga. It seems like the high lasted about two weeks.
January 18th, 20108:13 pm
It was quite the rush, no doubt. I don’t even know how to describe it. It was the most unique experience…one that I doubt will ever be duplicated.
January 18th, 20108:15 pm
GoBraves123: Yes, Once was a great movie, and soundtrack. He did a second album with the Czech girl, his co-star. This one’s about their breakup, and it’s almost as good an album as the first one. Not quite, doesn’t have any songs that really jump out like the first one (the soundtrack to the movie), but it’s solid.
And as Barrett mentioned, Hansard’s full-time gig is with The Frames, a rock band from Dublin that’s been around quite a while.
January 18th, 20108:17 pm
Texas and nova in my opinion are the only teams that could match up with syracuse , kansas no way, kentucky and mr wall would fair just like memphis did against them (cant crack that zone) — darren

Best thing about the Golden Globes:
January 18th, 20108:32 pm
Anyone see that Jose Offerman was banned for life from the DWL?
Maybe you guys have already discussed this…so I apologize if you have; but does anyone else think Offerman missed the ump with his punch? Just curious.
January 18th, 20108:35 pm
Either he missed or just barely slapped him.
Heath, surely you mean this.
Roman Gal -
Great! Oh, one more thing; for years Robert Duvall has talked of producing/directing a movie based on the life of Merle Haggard. Due to his close involvement with “Crazy Heart”, do you think it’s his “Haggard movie.
I’ve been a Bridges fan for quite a while–both Beau and Jeff– and especially like his performances in “The Fabulous Baker Boys”, “Tucker”, “Seabiscuit” as well as a few others I’m overlooking.
And Billy Jo Shaver was great, I thought, in “The Prophet”.
January 18th, 20108:39 pm
I saw the headline for it, but I haven’t read the story…just thought I’d put it off for a while.
January 18th, 20108:41 pm
To each his own…
January 18th, 20108:43 pm
This is true.
January 18th, 20108:50 pm
You gonna be watchin’ the Texas–KState match-up tonight?
January 18th, 20108:52 pm
Bat agreed, sky diving provided a tremondous rush that lasted for hours. Highly recommend it, especially if you are young, single with no children. What a cool date that would be. Imagine the sex afterward!
January 18th, 20108:53 pm
Anyone else interested in seeing “The Lovely Bones”?
January 18th, 20108:58 pm
N8, I might have to change my mind. Gotta say that Freddie’s doing pretty good so far. I’m very surprised. He’s gotta drop the fake New York accent though.

I am very anxious to see where some of these remaining outfielders will land.
January 18th, 20109:40 pm
Do you think any team will give Baldelli a major league contract, joe?
January 18th, 20109:44 pm
I don’t know. There is a plethora of outfielders out there. I forgot Randy Wynn and Ankiel are out there too. I could see the Yankees giving him a one-year deal for $1M as a fourth outfielder option or platoon with Brett Gardner.
January 18th, 20109:47 pm
Cubs are supposedly talking to Dye. That would be great for him. He wouldn’t even have to move.
January 18th, 20109:48 pm
I hope they sign Moylan to a 2 or 3 year contract worth about 2 million a year. I mean, what else does the guy have to prove to show he is worth it?? He has shown year in and out, even after surgery, that he is as durable and reliable as they come. Hell, the man has an ERA of 2.45 in his short career so far and when there are runners on base, I know there is nobody I want out there more than Moylan. Man has shown time after time he is good in the clutch.
Just give him a multi year contract already

Hard to nit pick on Texas too much, but I think they guard play is their “weakness”. Collins and Henry at KU and Wall and Bledsoe are a better duo than Bradley/Balbay/Brown. Your thoughts?
January 18th, 20109:55 pm
I just can’t get into college basketball no matter how hard I try. The only time it interests me is during the tournament, and that is only because of the pools that go on.
K State puttin’ it on Texas in the last 5 minutes of play.
January 18th, 201010:03 pm
i know texas only got the #1 spot by default since kansas lost, but i’m kinda hoping they hang on to it. i don’t particularly want kentucky having that target on their back.
teams just really get a bit extra pumped up against #1 more than they do #2 for some reason
January 18th, 201010:06 pm
UK gets everyone’s best regardless. Besides, if it were possible for a team to make that much harder on UK, then I welcome it. It would be great practice for the tourney.
January 18th, 201010:13 pm
Darren might be a little off base, but people should realize how good the ‘Cuse is. Wes Johnson is a legit POY candidate. He can do it all- score, rebound, defend, shoot the three, etc. They are so balanced, it will take an off day from many players to lose. Whether it is Wes, Rautins, Triche, Onuaku, Kris Joseph, or Jackson, they have people that can step up to win a game in the closing seconds. They are the best defensive team at the Cuse in years. No team since ‘03 with Melo, GMac, Hakim Warrick, Josh Pace, and Billy Edelin have they played together so well, and we all know what happened back then.
I can’t say if McGwire would have hit homeruns of 550 + feet. Mantle owns the record for longest, I think at like 565 feet. It’s so hard to say what made McGwire better… how he improved his swing or Steroids, or both. Probably a little of both. And it’s very hard for me to believe that many hitters of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s were not using amphetimines if not steroids in some form. I’m not saying Mantle in particular…
It’s very difficult to know which players have taken PEDs. I mean steroids have been around since the late 20’s or early 30’s. Amphetimines have been around since the beginning of the 1900’s. And yes, I believe amphetimines are “PEDs” like steroids. Who knows what advantage each has, but if it does, not everyone was taking them.
A former Braves pitcher, Tom House (played in 60’s & 70’s) has claimed that guys would do anything for an “edge” including horse steroids during his days in the league.
Therefore, I can’t say for certain the records from the 50’s, 60’s & 70’s were not accomplished while using steroids or amphetimines or anything else.
The one thing that really urks me about all this steroid stuff is that they are talked about like some wonder PED… like if I were to start taking them now at age 35, I would be able to hit homeruns for my beloved Braves. Most college greats or minor league greats would not be able to do what McGwire, Palmeiro, Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, Gonzalez, and others of the 90’s were able to do.

brekky & Heath
thanks for the food discussion actually got me off my azz to cook a decent meal tonight LOL
January 18th, 201010:27 pm
Is this true?
While playing the show, I hear this announcement from the PA:
“Attention fans sitting by home plate, if you have your cell phone out and wave to the camera, you will be punished with no less that 20 years.”
Seems a little extreme…

January 18th, 201010:39 pm
jurrjens you got xbox or ps3?
January 18th, 201010:44 pm
K State looks just awful in the 2nd half so far….
January 18th, 201010:51 pm
maybe they are pulling a UK?
Both, Although I lost my Xbox. I know, I know, “how can you lose a Xbox?”
Yea, well I did. It’s somewhere around.
January 18th, 201010:52 pm
If by pulling a UK, you mean get a lead, let the opponent get back in, and then pull it out at the end, then I’m OK with that.
January 18th, 201010:53 pm
Not that anyone asked me…but I have an XBox and a WII.

Hey, my friend……It’s Lee Ann Womack…..not LeAnne Wolmack….(LOL)…and for all intense purposes, for almost 50….she’s still pretty damn hot.
January 18th, 201010:58 pm
jurrjens thats funny, i had to send my ps3 to sony last week, pretty sure i blew a fuse because i heard a pop,150 bucks they charge no matter what the problem is to fix,i called around to local places where i live and nobody would work on a playstation
January 18th, 201011:01 pm
Ugly, ugly game for both teams tonight. If you’re not a fan of college basketball, this is probably the last game I would recommend watching to become one. Yuck.
January 18th, 201011:08 pm
anthony bourdain is in turkey…I may have to go heat up some more of my dinner
January 18th, 201011:11 pm
if you think you blew a fuse why not open it up and check Andrew? Anytime anything electric breaks on me that is the first thing I check…90% of the time that is what it is cost you like .25 cents at wal-mart or any hardware store
DOB, have you ever listen ed to Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds when they have played together? Its much better in my opinion. Although Big Whiskey and the Groux Grux King is pleasant.
You may have already addressed this but do the Braves still have any interest in Xavier Nady? His price has to be falling and might not be a bad option to have around.
January 18th, 201011:14 pm
Good for Miguel Tejada -
January 18th, 201011:15 pm
With Kansas State leading now by 8 with 3 minutes to go…it’s getting serious. And then there was 1?
January 18th, 201011:16 pm
Jurrjens4NLCY, that game is fun, isn’t it? I don’t care how many times you play it or how old you are, some games are just plain fun. ‘10 The Show comes out in March, right?
….make that leading by 10 with 2:42 to go. And then there was 1? I think maybe so.
January 18th, 201011:18 pm
Heyward,if i open it up and i have no idea what im doing, sony wont fix them if the seal is broken with or tampered so i’d pretty much be scr*wed then
Someone sounds a little jealous… maybe because you don’t have the future of gaming?
Man, that sucks. Technology pisses me off so much when it doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do. I take it you play The Show? RTTS is my favorite, but it’s too easy to be a pitcher and too hard to be a position player.
January 18th, 201011:20 pm
Andrew in PA -
XBox rules are the same way…you are better of sending it in and letting them give you feedback before you do anything. I mean, if you knew for sure it was just some stupid fuse you could get at RadioShack…yeah, fix it yourself….but like you said, you have to open it and break the seal to find out. Not worth the risk.
January 18th, 201011:21 pm
Life’s hard enough as it is, you don’t want to cry anymore.
January 18th, 201011:22 pm
I actually don’t play games that often. So what I’ve got is more than good enough.
Andrew I know how you feel on the PS3. I’ve already had to send two back 3 times in total. Mine went back twice, and my brother once.
You’re gonna love my nuts!
OK, so, yay or nay on K-State fans storming the floor?
January 18th, 201011:25 pm
P’cola brave, man thats crazy,if i’d have to send it back a second time i’d just buy another. What were the reasons you had to send yours in?
January 18th, 201011:27 pm
Freezing. The startup would freeze. Games and DVD’s. You could put them in and then the system would freeze. Luckily both were covered by warranty. It broke the first time right around 3 months then 11 months later. They fixed it both times for free. Lucky for me.
January 18th, 201011:28 pm
It’s O……V……E……R! UK is the lone undefeated team in basketball now. All they have to do is win against Arkansas (Paul’s team I believe) this Saturday to get the #1 ranking.
So, storm the court?
January 18th, 201011:30 pm
oh yeah thats sweet then, how long did it normally take once it got to sony?
January 18th, 201011:32 pm
I had them turn it around in 2-3 weeks. My brothers took a month. Depends on the problem and amount of systems needing repair.
January 18th, 201011:35 pm

January 18th, 201011:37 pm

You guys are nuts if you think Glavine is not getting in on the first ballot. He has over 300 wins that is an automatic first ballot selection.
I know i’ve only had the game since christmas, havent even played story mode yet because online is too fun to get off of.
January 18th, 201011:45 pm
Soph, McFann, and Cab,
Have you seen Marley and Me?
Just saw it, such a great movie, one of my favorites.
January 18th, 201011:46 pm
Me to. I don’t even play the campaign. I’d rather get online and play.
January 18th, 201011:47 pm
