Kate is my personal fav…..I think I’ve expressed that b4.
January 17th, 20109:56 pm
kc– the kid’s name is derek lowe, i believe.
Sorry nolie, yes I agree with you, they are. I was just commenting on something a couple of pages back, and I know longer remember what.
January 17th, 20109:57 pm
KC still looking?
January 17th, 20109:58 pm
might have been McFanns comment about thinking they were the same think, Bat ?
Bat Masterson, gotcha man. I was kinda wondering who you were talking to.
thing not think
January 17th, 20109:59 pm
I can’t imagine why…
January 17th, 201010:02 pm
Yes, I think you are correct, nolie and totalitarianism is what they have in common.
January 17th, 201010:05 pm
It has been said that those who don’t remember history are doomed to repeat it. -Wendi Kaufman
January 17th, 201010:06 pm
I have heard young folks say the same thing b4 and i think it is the fact that they are both totalitarian that confuses them,
boulder was probably cooler 30 years ago. it’s still a beautiful place of course, but by time i got there in 93, it had gone the way of yuppies. the town’s mostly just sorta narcissistic & annoying now in a white-PC, ‘whole foods’ kind of way. case in point: everybody’s always talking about the importance of diversity in boulder, but the joke is that there is zero diversity in boulder. the only blacks there are on the football & basketball teams at CU. and they’ve priced the latinos out of boulder. they have to live 20 minutes away in longmont to come in and wash dishes and be gardeners for the yuppie liberals who go on sanctimoniously about diversity. aarrrrgggg.
January 17th, 201010:08 pm
Bad plastic surgery Beckinsale? Pass.
yup jed, I guess it was cooler 30-40 years ago, or at least nicer
‘Yes, I think you are correct, nolie and totalitarianism is what they have in common.’ bat
that sentence reads kinda funny….
January 17th, 201010:10 pm
I understood it
Let’s talk some Braves baseball folks
January 17th, 201010:11 pm
baseball? what’s baseball? and why would we talk about it here?
January 17th, 201010:12 pm
right…nothing’s happening and if i type nady’s name again, my fingers may fall off…
January 17th, 201010:13 pm
still waiting to see if any of the 4 pitchers I named were the one that KC meant. That’s baseball
The comma between correct and nolie, perhaps.
January 17th, 201010:15 pm
Whenever they show a montage of Scorcese films like they just did on the Golden Globes, I’m always amazed at how many sensational movies the man has made. Given one director’s films to take on the proverbial desert island, there’s no question who that director would be for me.
January 17th, 201010:17 pm
i like it the way it reads, bat. dude’s a fascist!
Baseball is the greatest sport known to man, involving strength, speed, agility, hand eye coordination, skill and above all else, strategy.
Well, time to watch 24 on DVR. Hope they can keep it compelling this season.
January 17th, 201010:18 pm
I loved Mel Gibson’s intro. Too funny!
On a kinda random note, does anyone have any creative ideas for proposing? I’m not looking to do it tomorrow, but I’m starting to think about how to go about it. Maybe in the spring? Anyways, does anybody have any unique ideas, or stories?
January 17th, 201010:19 pm
no question he has been a great director. I might prefer John Ford though
duct tape, a blowtorch and rufinol worked for me…
Finally! A director we both like.
January 17th, 201010:20 pm
please do not post any 24 spoilers! It would be greatly appreciated to those of us on the west coast
January 17th, 201010:21 pm
Glee wasn’t better than 30 Rock, Modern Family, or The Office.
design it around something that uou both love to do together Mac. skydiving, scuba etc
January 17th, 201010:22 pm
duct tape, a blowtorch and rufinol worked for me jed
Whiner – like you just can’t scroll by…
nolie, I am with you on John Ford but don’t think either would make my desert island pick.
January 17th, 201010:23 pm
nolie, KC must be talking about Kimbrel. DOB talked about him on his blog, not too long ago.
I understand your infatuation with Penelope DOB Bravissimo
i don’t — Nolie
That’s alright, you also think almost all music made since the mid-90s has been bad. Actually just a lot or even most of the really popular stuff has been bad; there’s been a lot of terrific music made since the mid-90s, just as there has been in every other period. Most of it just isn’t found at the top of the sales charts.
But not seeing what’s the big deal with Penelope Cruz … Come on, Nolie.
January 17th, 201010:24 pm
any spoilers should be marked as such with a SPOILER banner in front. I watch a lot sof shows after the season is over and have had several prematurely disclosed.
January 17th, 201010:26 pm
please do not post any 24 spoilers! It would be greatly appreciated to those of us on the west coast —- cabravesfan
I second that emotion. It would also be appreciated for those of us that recorded it, to watch at another time.
January 17th, 201010:28 pm
Was that Jennifer Aniston?
Wow, she is still so beautiful!
24 – looks pretty solid so far
January 17th, 201010:29 pm
penelope cruz is 35! everyone knows that’s ancient to nolie. now if she has a niece….
Funny line from the director of The Hangover, about possibly getting in a fistfight with Harvey Weinstein but how it’d be OK because he had Mike Tyson behind him.
January 17th, 201010:32 pm
Lotsa great directors Moe . Peckinpah,Lumet,Pollack.Coppola, Wyler,Capra,Kubrick, Hawks,Cukor. a case could even be made for Sam Fuller and/or Budd Boetticher. Roger Corman started about half the directors in Hollywood out. who you like?
penelope cruz is 35! everyone knows that’s ancient to nolie. now if she has a niece….
I think you mean nephew.
January 17th, 201010:33 pm

Dude, you know I’m down with your musical proclivities, but “no” to PENELOPE CRUZ? You are a live and breathing human male right? I mean “DAMN.”
January 17th, 201010:34 pm
I would prefer a niece, JJ
January 17th, 201010:35 pm
KC, if it is Craig Kimbrel, I remember DOB had some interesting stats from him in the Arizona Fall League, which I finally found.
He appeared in 11 games and pitched 10.1 innings. He gave up 7 hits (1hr), while striking out 18. The opposing batters only hit .189 off him. His ERA was, are you ready for this …… 10.45! Yeah, that’s not a typo, believe it or not. He walked 16.
We’re going to make America skinny again, one slap at a time.
January 17th, 201010:36 pm
January 17th, 201010:41 pm
Kimbrel is a veritable Ebby Calvin “Nuke” Laloosh. I’m thinking of the scene after his first game, where the coach and manager are in the office…
“Struck out 18!”
-”New League Record!”
“Also walked 18″
-”Also a new league record.”
January 17th, 201010:47 pm
Ebby Calvin “Nuke” Laloosh
China Grove , you may have just tagged him with his future nickname. (I hope of the four, only “Nuke” sticks.)
HIT THE BULL
January 17th, 201010:51 pm
Thanks Tom, I’d love to see more players in baseball draw their names from great baseball movies, a la “Wild Thing” Mitch Williams. The fans in Philly STILL love the guy even though he gave up that tater to Carter in ‘93, and I reckon that the nickname has something to do with it.
Maybe Mitch Jones is the real-life Crash Davis. The latter was indeed the greatest ‘AAAA’ player of all-time.
January 17th, 201010:53 pm
Hit Bull, Win STEAK!
Anyone on here from/been to Durham? to the new park there? I’ve read it’s a beautiful stadium in a very nice little city. Would love to visit Durham someday when I’m in the south. Worth the trip?
The latter was indeed the greatest ‘AAAA’ player of all-time. CG
Mitch ain’t even made it to AAAA player yet
January 17th, 201010:55 pm
SCOOTS might know about the new Durham CG.
P. W. Hjort
January 17th, 201010:57 pm
The show Friday night was decent. Not a top-10 truckers show for me, but not a bottom-10, either. Show Saturday night was a top-5.
You can stream all three nights online for free (including the Thursday show I wasn’t able to attend) from SouthernShelter.com
Lastly, I’m really pumped about the new records. All the songs they played off of them sounded great.
January 17th, 201011:03 pm
thanks nolie, I’ll bring it up next time scoots is around.
comments seem real sparse and dead tonight, any reasons?
January 17th, 201011:05 pm
China Grove —- Maybe Mitch Jones is the real-life Crash Davis.
You’re safe as long as you don’t try to give that name to McCann. McFann will hurt you.
Being that Durham, back during the making of the movie, was a AA Braves’ team, I’m sure there are some on this blog that have been there. Not me, I’m too far north.
January 17th, 201011:08 pm
comments seem real sparse and dead tonight
I resemble that remark.
January 17th, 201011:14 pm
I think Sunday nights are often kinda slow
Since we’ve kinda been discussing movies a little tonight…. anyone else like The Prestige?
No disrespect to the good people in Mississippi, but I wish we still had the Durham Bulls. I’d definitely be making that trip then! I’m a Duke hoops fan so Durham could be a little sports super-market for me. Wish I could have gone when I was in North Carolina… almost ten years ago now.
January 17th, 201011:16 pm
I liked it a lot Heath, better than the other magician one that came out about the same time though it was ok too. ah yes The Illusionist
The A Bomb
Hey “HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS?”…………When I told “you” last weekend under your previous name that Jared Allen and the Williams boys would be chasing Romo all over Minneapolis, how did you enjoy THAT today????
By the way, “you” were the only one on here who spelled the Minnesota QB’s name F-A-R-V-E.
“You” need to do better than that to disguise who “you” really are. Say hi to Gavin Newsom for “us.”
I guess “you” forgot to go to the “bank” today.
January 17th, 201011:19 pm
Zeke Spruill and Randall Delgado, I think, will have good years. It’s crazy to think, but I think that pair has a good chance of being the story of 2010, rather than Arodys and The Cartagena Kid at Class A Rome.
chip off the ol block
January 17th, 201011:28 pm
It was a pretty good into to 24 tonight i wont give anything up but it was pretty good, looks like a promising season ahead of us
Hopefully he’s not on one of the many B.R.I.D.G.E.S. in the San Francisco Bay Area.
January 17th, 201011:29 pm
Yes, it was waaaaaay better than the other one….Jessica Beil is not as good as Scarlett Johansson…Norton and Giamatti weren’t as good as Jackman, Bale and Cain….and the over-all plot was not as good.
Heath – I like The Prestige a lot – of course, Hugh Jackman is hot… I mean, I wish Scarlett had a bigger part. Michael Caine, as always, is great. And, David Bowie is lots of fun…(Christian Bale is really good, too).
Shanks a lot
January 17th, 201011:30 pm
I liked “The Illusionist” better than “The prestige”
I will admit that I also enjoyed The Illusionist…
January 17th, 201011:33 pm
Heath — Yeah, I liked “The Prestige.” Thought it was very good, and a lot better than “The Illusionist,” the other movie about magicians that came out at roughly the same time.
I thought that giving Best Motion Picture Drama to “Avatar” was lame. Out of the four nominees that I’ve seen (I haven’t seen “Up In the Air” yet), I would put it no. 4 behind “Hurt Locker,” “Inglorious Basterds,” and “Precious.”
January 17th, 201011:36 pm
Avatar = Dances with Wolves in Space
nice one A Bomb.
On a baseball note, what do you folks expect of hurler Wade Davis this upcoming season? I’m doing my fantasy projections and he’s one of those guys who I feel I’m overrating. I REALLY have a gut that he’ll be a sleeper, but it could all be a pipedream on my part.
January 17th, 201011:37 pm
there will be 10 nominees for best picture this year remember. And Bigelow has a chance to become the first woman to win Best Director oscar
January 17th, 201011:38 pm
Avatar = Dances with Wolves in Space Shanks
maybe so, but it is also gonna end up at least the second best grossing picture in history and might have a shot a TITANIC for first.
January 17th, 201011:45 pm
As far as I’m concerned there is nothing wrong with Dances With Wolves whether in Dakota or in outer space.
January 17th, 201011:47 pm
Calipari, Ashley Judd and local Lexington TV station raised over $1M tonight for Haiti. Pretty impressive for just a basketball team, huh?
January 17th, 201011:48 pm
“As far as I’m concerned there is nothing wrong with Dances With Wolves whether in Dakota or in outer space.”–Moby Grape
Really? You did not find it to be an overblown, hackneyed film? Hmm?
January 17th, 201011:56 pm
Moby and I went to see it together Moe and I gotta say I enjoyed it too. Probably shouldn’t have won the Oscar though. BYW you never named you deserted island director.

nolie, I said the exact same thing, just last night. You didn’t give me any props.
January 18th, 201012:12 am
jed we are cousins. we live next door to each other and to Moby’s sister and husband in 3 units of a townhouse, at least that’s what they call it. Have a server hooked up so we all can post from wherever we are.Laptop in the rec room, etc. Moby does not read or post as much as he used to.
January 18th, 201012:13 am
Tom, yours just didn’t seem as interesting, sorry.
January 18th, 201012:15 am
nolie, I appreciate your honesty.
January 18th, 201012:16 am
where do yall live?
January 18th, 201012:22 am
Ya’ll were mentioning The Illusionist and we watched it earlier for the first time. Nothing that great about it. The ending had a little twist, but nothing I’d remember a week from now. Seems like so many are making movies just to make them. Every once in awhile you’ll get something authentic that you’d actually like to see more than once.
The Final Destination was a dumb piece of crap and if I saw somebody getting split in half the first time than I think that’s all I wanted to see of it. Just watched because I didn’t rent it with my money. I mean, I damn near decapitated my brother-in-law’s head off with a punch and that was at least real. Mess with my brother or sis than suffer the consequences.
January 18th, 201012:32 am
Roads? Where we’re going we don’t need roads.
January 18th, 201012:34 am
China Grove :
You a N.C. man.? I thought you were from Texas. All the textile mills shuttered down there too?
January 18th, 201012:36 am

Don’t let LEW see that. One of his favs.
January 18th, 201012:38 am
Don’t let LEW see that. One of his favs. rich
oh well, he and TnB are always takin’ shots at each other anyways.
Heath, Back to the Future pt. 2. Line was at the end of pt. 1 too. Still one of those movies that never gets old. Well the 3rd one got old after one time of watching it, but 1 and 2 were classics.
January 18th, 201012:41 am
Well the 3rd one got old after one time of watching it, but 1 and 2 were classics. TnB
I liked 3 better than 2 myself
January 18th, 201012:42 am
lew best watch it. TnB almost decapitated his brother-in-law’s head off!
January 18th, 201012:43 am
Me and Lew seem to have figured each other out and what buttons not to push. I can get him riled up because I know how, but I really like that guy because what Lew says he means and doesn’t go back on his word if any of you have noticed.
Silly as it sounds, but all the communicating that goes on around here and how we can argue one day and be blog buds the next is just like the real world. I don’t think anybody really means to be a prick. Well, almost anybody ….
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
