boulder was probably cooler 30 years ago. it’s still a beautiful place of course, but by time i got there in 93, it had gone the way of yuppies. the town’s mostly just sorta narcissistic & annoying now in a white-PC, ‘whole foods’ kind of way. case in point: everybody’s always talking about the importance of diversity in boulder, but the joke is that there is zero diversity in boulder. the only blacks there are on the football & basketball teams at CU. and they’ve priced the latinos out of boulder. they have to live 20 minutes away in longmont to come in and wash dishes and be gardeners for the yuppie liberals who go on sanctimoniously about diversity. aarrrrgggg.

Whenever they show a montage of Scorcese films like they just did on the Golden Globes, I’m always amazed at how many sensational movies the man has made. Given one director’s films to take on the proverbial desert island, there’s no question who that director would be for me.

Actually just a lot or even most of the really popular stuff has been bad; there’s been a lot of terrific music made since the mid-90s, just as there has been in every other period. Most of it just isn’t found at the top of the sales charts.

Lotsa great directors Moe . Peckinpah,Lumet,Pollack.Coppola, Wyler,Capra,Kubrick, Hawks,Cukor. a case could even be made for Sam Fuller and/or Budd Boetticher. Roger Corman started about half the directors in Hollywood out. who you like?

KC, if it is Craig Kimbrel, I remember DOB had some interesting stats from him in the Arizona Fall League, which I finally found.
He appeared in 11 games and pitched 10.1 innings. He gave up 7 hits (1hr), while striking out 18. The opposing batters only hit .189 off him. His ERA was, are you ready for this …… 10.45! Yeah, that’s not a typo, believe it or not. He walked 16.

Thanks Tom, I’d love to see more players in baseball draw their names from great baseball movies, a la “Wild Thing” Mitch Williams. The fans in Philly STILL love the guy even though he gave up that tater to Carter in ‘93, and I reckon that the nickname has something to do with it.
Maybe Mitch Jones is the real-life Crash Davis. The latter was indeed the greatest ‘AAAA’ player of all-time.

The show Friday night was decent. Not a top-10 truckers show for me, but not a bottom-10, either. Show Saturday night was a top-5.

Lastly, I’m really pumped about the new records. All the songs they played off of them sounded great.

No disrespect to the good people in Mississippi, but I wish we still had the Durham Bulls. I’d definitely be making that trip then! I’m a Duke hoops fan so Durham could be a little sports super-market for me. Wish I could have gone when I was in North Carolina… almost ten years ago now.

Yes, it was waaaaaay better than the other one….Jessica Beil is not as good as Scarlett Johansson…Norton and Giamatti weren’t as good as Jackman, Bale and Cain….and the over-all plot was not as good.

Heath – I like The Prestige a lot – of course, Hugh Jackman is hot… I mean, I wish Scarlett had a bigger part. Michael Caine, as always, is great. And, David Bowie is lots of fun…(Christian Bale is really good, too).

Heath — Yeah, I liked “The Prestige.” Thought it was very good, and a lot better than “The Illusionist,” the other movie about magicians that came out at roughly the same time.
I thought that giving Best Motion Picture Drama to “Avatar” was lame. Out of the four nominees that I’ve seen (I haven’t seen “Up In the Air” yet), I would put it no. 4 behind “Hurt Locker,” “Inglorious Basterds,” and “Precious.”

Ya’ll were mentioning The Illusionist and we watched it earlier for the first time. Nothing that great about it. The ending had a little twist, but nothing I’d remember a week from now. Seems like so many are making movies just to make them. Every once in awhile you’ll get something authentic that you’d actually like to see more than once.
The Final Destination was a dumb piece of crap and if I saw somebody getting split in half the first time than I think that’s all I wanted to see of it. Just watched because I didn’t rent it with my money. I mean, I damn near decapitated my brother-in-law’s head off with a punch and that was at least real. Mess with my brother or sis than suffer the consequences.

Me and Lew seem to have figured each other out and what buttons not to push. I can get him riled up because I know how, but I really like that guy because what Lew says he means and doesn’t go back on his word if any of you have noticed.
