RE why Carroll might take the Seahawks job: in addition to the (true) points already made about him being given total control of the team and having nothing else to prove in college ball, those of you not on the West Coast may not be familiar with the level of fan support for the Seahawks in the PNW. Their fans are many and rabid (they worship Holmgren, and the first head coach to bring home a Super Bowl trophy to Puget Sound will be king of the city for life). They also play in a city that is, as DOB has noted, second only perhaps to San Francisco in natural beauty among urban centers in this nation. It’s a plum gig, even without those added factors mentioned above.

T-hawking, I think they have done something about the offense.

Braves W-L in 2010 will not be directly reflected in the salary. It will reflect the skill of Frank Wren in putting together a well balanced team that can create a rally and keep it going. I think this team can do that. I don’t see any glaring weaknesses such as we had last year with Frenchy and KJ and Norton.

I fully expect a good year and am looking forward to it, in contrast to you and others on this board who simply appear to never have a positive thought. How sad it must be for your brain to forever be on the negative side of things. I am grateful I am not hampered with that affliction.

I have a nephew in Tacoma and he enjoys it up there. A bit colder than South Georgia but not so much. He travels into Alaska so I guess he is happy to get back to warm Tacoma.

I have been there many times and I also like the city.

Who gives a flying F*** if 27 HR’s and 95 RBI is average for 1B?? I’m not sure that IS average, but even if it is, who the hell cares?? That in no way diminishes the impact of those numbers on this lineup.

General Managers and talent evaluators care about that stuff. But who cares about them, right?

Regarding your 12:40 and Teheran and Vizacaino, there’s more. Wren clearly is of a mind to guarantee that Braves will have plenty of inexpensive young pitchers through 2018, or so.

Unfortunately, 90% of those pitchers you mentioned most likely won’t be making an impact for the Braves(whether it’s pitching for them, or bringing back talent in a deal). Maybe not 90%, but a lot of them. So many of their premier talent is at the lower levels. Almost all of them haven’t received a test past Low-A. But anyway, I do like a lot of them and keeping track of their minor league careers is one of my favorite things to do.

YES! I thought we should have drafted an Offensive Tackle last year!! I think we are OK at corner, with Shawntae having a break out year, Terrill Brown playing well, Walt Harris potentially returning, along with Clements (although that is not guaranteed)…but with 2 first round picks, we can afford to address more then one need (see Specialist, Return…) :D

Ryan C good post at 3:05. Alot of people look at this offense like it is the same as last years. It is as good as the 2nd half team, which is a hell of alot better than the 1st half offense. This team hasnt gotten any worse, it is just as good as the 2nd half team. I predict they win somewhere between 95-97 games. I would predict the Phillies win between 98-100 games. Which is why I cant believe people say the division race is over. I bet it comes down to the last week of the season. Besides I also think the wildcard will come out of the NL East.

You’ve been reading too much Maicco! Honestly though, I agree with him and Barrows regarding return man. They could be 10-6 and in the playoffs if they had an even average return game. I’m not sure I’d trade a second rounder for Josh Cribbs, but I’d give it a lot of thought considering they have two first rounders. I’d like them to draft a OT with one of those picks(obviously), then try to get Joe Haden from Florida. If he isn’t there, then maybe ILB Rolando McClain from Bama. Spikes is still very good, but he is 33 and not getting any younger, so adding another young ILB to pair with Willis would be great. Plus, McClain is big enough to play on the outside at times.

I like Damon’s OBP at the top of the order and despite Nate’s SB success rate, I like a lineup of:

Damon
Prado
Chipper
Glaus
McCann
Escobar
McClouth
Heyward/Diaz

Of course, I would also like:

McClouth
Prado
Chipper
Dunn
Glaus
McCann
Escobar
Heyward/Diaz

I feel some consolation in thinking that if the offense is struggling that FW will try and make a move early like he did when acquiring Nate.

UGA deserves a lot of credit…no doubt. The fact that they won even though they couldn’t hit shots today (2-14 from 3 and 22-33 from the free throw line) shows how good they can be. Which, it what I said about UK, KU and Texas earlier today when Purdue lost today. Purdue, unlike those three teams, is not able to give the ball to a guy down low or their point guard to just take the game over when they are having an off night from the field. At the end of the day, UK, KU, and Texas wins these ugly games…which every team has. I think this says more about a team than when all the shots are falling.

Who would have thought the kicking game would cause such problems. I have high expectations for next year.

ust visited the “Bears” web page. Was impressed by the banner “Liberals feel, Conservatives think”

DOB was right, all the right wingers will be coming on to this board from that one with their political comments. Don’t know why people can’t keep their damn proselytizing off this board, from both sides of the spectrum. From commies to nazis, none of it belongs here.

Tweet from David Pollack:

From what I am getting guys I think Georgia has made a very SMART choice on there next DC, nothing 100% but def looks good.

Then later:

From what I have gotten it is already a done deal. How does that make you feel Georgia fans?

I’m excited about next year too! The D stepped it up in the final three games. I think with a few more pieces, they’ll be decent. Plus, hopefully Ryan and Turner will be healthy and return to their 2008 form.

Yeah Soph, get some guys healthy, have a good draft and the sky is the limit. I’m sitting here in the FL panhandle freezing my butt off, thinking about spring training.

Perhaps the fewest “wows” from John Wall since the beginning of the season.

This will give all the Appalachians still using dial-up something to fret about on the internet until UK plays Florida on Tuesday night.

Where is P-Lentz At?

I’d thought he’d be thought he’d be on here talking noise about Tony Homo and his Cowgirls?
