I am a G/PG-rated guy. Can’t say the same for others that frequent this blog, huh?
January 9th, 20103:22 pm
I try to keep it PG on the blog- In the real world…not so much

RE why Carroll might take the Seahawks job: in addition to the (true) points already made about him being given total control of the team and having nothing else to prove in college ball, those of you not on the West Coast may not be familiar with the level of fan support for the Seahawks in the PNW. Their fans are many and rabid (they worship Holmgren, and the first head coach to bring home a Super Bowl trophy to Puget Sound will be king of the city for life). They also play in a city that is, as DOB has noted, second only perhaps to San Francisco in natural beauty among urban centers in this nation. It’s a plum gig, even without those added factors mentioned above.
THE BEAR Illegitimi non carborundum
January 9th, 20103:25 pm
T-hawking, I think they have done something about the offense.
Braves W-L in 2010 will not be directly reflected in the salary. It will reflect the skill of Frank Wren in putting together a well balanced team that can create a rally and keep it going. I think this team can do that. I don’t see any glaring weaknesses such as we had last year with Frenchy and KJ and Norton.
I fully expect a good year and am looking forward to it, in contrast to you and others on this board who simply appear to never have a positive thought. How sad it must be for your brain to forever be on the negative side of things. I am grateful I am not hampered with that affliction.
January 9th, 20103:28 pm
I have a nephew in Tacoma and he enjoys it up there. A bit colder than South Georgia but not so much. He travels into Alaska so I guess he is happy to get back to warm Tacoma.
I have been there many times and I also like the city.
January 9th, 20103:36 pm
All academic now…. only 3 teams left that have a bagel in the loss column.
January 9th, 20103:37 pm
The Bear, there are quite a few on here who need to rest their brain and their typing fingers.
January 9th, 20103:46 pm
cabravesfan, an offensive tackle. That is a must this offseason for our Niners. I wouldn’t mind getting a corner either, although it appears they are going to bring back Clements.
January 9th, 20103:48 pm
Why would anyone come to a baseball blog to debate political topics… It makes no sense
January 9th, 20103:49 pm
Who gives a flying F*** if 27 HR’s and 95 RBI is average for 1B?? I’m not sure that IS average, but even if it is, who the hell cares?? That in no way diminishes the impact of those numbers on this lineup.
General Managers and talent evaluators care about that stuff. But who cares about them, right?
January 9th, 20103:52 pm

UGA-UK about to get underway… GO BIG BLUE!
Regarding your 12:40 and Teheran and Vizacaino, there’s more. Wren clearly is of a mind to guarantee that Braves will have plenty of inexpensive young pitchers through 2018, or so.
Unfortunately, 90% of those pitchers you mentioned most likely won’t be making an impact for the Braves(whether it’s pitching for them, or bringing back talent in a deal). Maybe not 90%, but a lot of them. So many of their premier talent is at the lower levels. Almost all of them haven’t received a test past Low-A. But anyway, I do like a lot of them and keeping track of their minor league careers is one of my favorite things to do.
YES! I thought we should have drafted an Offensive Tackle last year!! I think we are OK at corner, with Shawntae having a break out year, Terrill Brown playing well, Walt Harris potentially returning, along with Clements (although that is not guaranteed)…but with 2 first round picks, we can afford to address more then one need (see Specialist, Return…)

January 9th, 20104:05 pm
Did you see that dunk in the UK game, wow
January 9th, 20104:09 pm
Rob…. I saw the dunk. Cousins was only 2 feet from the basket. Looked better in live speed than on replay.

This is about the sixth time and I am afraid DOB is going to get sick of seeing it soon. Anyway here it goes one more time.

Ryan C good post at 3:05. Alot of people look at this offense like it is the same as last years. It is as good as the 2nd half team, which is a hell of alot better than the 1st half offense. This team hasnt gotten any worse, it is just as good as the 2nd half team. I predict they win somewhere between 95-97 games. I would predict the Phillies win between 98-100 games. Which is why I cant believe people say the division race is over. I bet it comes down to the last week of the season. Besides I also think the wildcard will come out of the NL East.
January 9th, 20104:14 pm
I like the Glaus and Hinske signings. But, I just can’t get over the fact that we need one more bat to be legit contenders. We need more O…if we don’t have that much money left, trade Melky (stories were out there that the Cubs would be interested) and sign Damon…
Peter King on NBC pregame live – Pete Carroll to Seatlle within 48 hrs.
January 9th, 20104:15 pm
Tech looks like they might bounce back with a win over Duke.
January 9th, 20104:16 pm
JasoninFL – I don’t think the Uggla deal is dead. The Marlins will cave in and deal him before they will go to arbitration and/or pay him when the regular season starts.
January 9th, 20104:19 pm
The Bear…and yadda, yadda, yadda
The way the offense plays out depends on Bobby If he doesn’t make changes to the lineup for 2 months then we are going to be in bad shape
“it, in contrast to you and others on this board who simply appear to never have a positive thought. How sad it must be for your brain to forever be on the negative side of things. I am grateful I am not hampered with that affliction.”
And I appreciate that last comment, Fartknocker! Just because I look at this team without aPositive/ Kool-aids drinkers perspective, doesn’t mean that you have to take cheap shots at me and others on here who know that our owners don’t care about the fans in going cheap 2 years in a row
If You don’t like my comments bashing our Cheap owners then ignore it, no need for the cheap shots!
Chances are you won’t even be on here come midseason…I may bash team team but I stiill support them, you have to be loyal to your roots!
Have a Nice Day!
January 9th, 20104:24 pm
Could be lookin’ at upset Saturday in college basketball today…. #4 goes down, #5 goes down, #16 goes down, #10 in trouble late, and #14 down big early.
January 9th, 20104:26 pm
Please kill the Uggla rumors…?
Our defense overall is already bad and the The thought of Uggla playing defense in LF scares me, thats another thing this team lacks is overall defense…Other than Esco and Prado our overall defense is suspect and that makes a big difference in close games
January 9th, 20104:33 pm
but with 2 first round picks, we can afford to address more then one need (see Specialist, Return…)
You’ve been reading too much Maicco! Honestly though, I agree with him and Barrows regarding return man. They could be 10-6 and in the playoffs if they had an even average return game. I’m not sure I’d trade a second rounder for Josh Cribbs, but I’d give it a lot of thought considering they have two first rounders. I’d like them to draft a OT with one of those picks(obviously), then try to get Joe Haden from Florida. If he isn’t there, then maybe ILB Rolando McClain from Bama. Spikes is still very good, but he is 33 and not getting any younger, so adding another young ILB to pair with Willis would be great. Plus, McClain is big enough to play on the outside at times.
January 9th, 20104:34 pm
Hey Pete Carroll, somebody named Dennis Erickson called and said that it totally worked for him leaving a national powerhouse for the Seahawks so go for it buddy.
January 9th, 20104:37 pm
I like the Glaus and Hinske signings.
I do too, when considering how much they cost. But I think they need another bat. Good thing they have enough prospects to make a deal mid season. And presumably enough payroll flexibility.
January 9th, 20104:38 pm
Georgia Tech upsets No. 5 Duke
So by the transitive property, you can go ahead and take the “Tech” out of that sentence
Georgia upsets No. 5 Duke
So should I poke my eyes out when I watch the braves this season or should I seal my ears shut when I hear them on radio. Trading 15 wins for 13 homeruns and getting no bats will make some tough decisions for the new year. 79-83 here we come baby!!!!! GOOOOOOOOOO BRAVES!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 9th, 20104:39 pm
I highly doubt Dennis Erickson called you
January 9th, 20104:41 pm
Keylargo…not sold on that…FW does look at advanced stats, and while not quite Theo; I do think he looks at things like run prevention. Of course, we did have GA in LF last year…
Efrim…agreed…completely. I am an all or nothing guy though, and with this being Bobby’s last year; I just wish we had that bat we need to start the season.
January 9th, 20104:43 pm
I am an all or nothing guy though, and with this being Bobby’s last year; I just wish we had that bat we need to start the season.
I agree, Jason. Would be nice to not have as many question marks going into the season.
January 9th, 20104:46 pm
jeffrey d, maybe Georgia would win in football.
January 9th, 20104:48 pm
Lets Make a wager who leads the team in homeruns?
I’m putting my money on B-Macc who hits 25…
January 9th, 20104:50 pm
January 9th, 2010
One thing about college basketball, the 3-pt shot gives any team a chance to win any night. Much easier to get the upset in basketball.
I like Damon’s OBP at the top of the order and despite Nate’s SB success rate, I like a lineup of:
Of course, I would also like:
I feel some consolation in thinking that if the offense is struggling that FW will try and make a move early like he did when acquiring Nate.
January 9th, 20104:52 pm
Alright cab, your USC boys are playing each other – Bengals vs. Jets. Who ya got?
January 9th, 20104:57 pm
VJ just asked me the same thing I like Sanchez a lot, but Carson is my guy so I’ve got to go with the Bengals…plus they have more Trojans on their roster then the Jets do
January 9th, 20104:59 pm
Na Jeffery D he called me specifically and he wanted me to let you know that you have the repartee of a George W. Bush. Good job buddy.
January 9th, 20105:00 pm
I kid, I kid
January 9th, 20105:01 pm
Absolutely horrible shooting performance from my Cats in the first half…can’t even make a freet throw. Yet, only down 1.
January 9th, 20105:02 pm
And speaking of upsets, Georgia’s leading UK at the half!
Anybody else notice that Kentucky’s wearing closed arm girl jerseys?
January 9th, 20105:14 pm

The Bear…and yadda, yadda, yadda
And I appreciate that last comment, Fartknocker!
I have noticed your propensity for vulgarity but if that is your thing then by all means go right ahead and make a fool of yourself. I am a big boy and I can handle it.
FW does look at advanced stats, and while not quite Theo; I do think he looks at things like run prevention. Of course, we did have GA in LF last year… Jason
they look at them, but they are one of the least stats-influenced most scouts-influenced orgs in baseball. a long long way from Theo
January 9th, 20105:18 pm
Huh, huh… He said “fartknocker.”
January 9th, 20105:22 pm
nolie, you think so? yeah, you are probably right…
January 9th, 20105:25 pm
nolie, you think so? yeah, you are probably right Jason
yeah, but I also think that will change some under Wren who is more stats oriented that John S was. but I also think they will always be influenced more by their scouts than by just stats.
January 9th, 20105:26 pm
The Bear, and yadda, yadda, yadda
I don’t take cheap shots at other unless they provoke me
So Welcome to Ignore…!
January 9th, 20105:27 pm
“Fartknocker”, I’ve been waiting to say that for awhile, and the Bear brought it out of me with his cheap shot
January 9th, 20105:29 pm
Well, go ahead Georgia Tech.
I just flipped to the UGA/KY game on Peachtree. Horrible reception – the court is making me dizzy.
January 9th, 20105:31 pm
the court is making me dizzy.
That’s just Georgia’s defense making you dizzy
January 9th, 20105:33 pm
Best fan in college sports… Ashley Judd for UK. Love it when they show her.
Or maybe Kentucky’s girl jerseys
lol actually I just flipped to it and saw the UGA guy travel on the inbounds and turn it over.
January 9th, 20105:34 pm
January 9th, 20105:36 pm
If there are any Bengals fans on here, I have a quick question. I have watched Carson Palmer a few times this year, and he looks totally different since he injuried his elbow. His ball lacks velocity to me. It floats. Am I wrong?
January 9th, 20105:37 pm
Toma, when I take a shot I try very hard for it not to be cheap. I want to get the most reaction possible. Seems it worked.
Now I will make a mighty attempt to ignore you. Carry on with your garbage and as soon as possible tell us one more time what cheap skates Liberty is. I so much want to read that again. It has such a ring to it.
For what it’s worth we agree on Uggla. The last thing we need is him out at second booting DPs. The man seems paralyzed when a ball is hit at him especially if it is popped over his head.
January 9th, 20105:39 pm
Timely post Rob – he just threw a pick.
January 9th, 20105:42 pm
Wow, UGA is playing well. Very impressive.
January 9th, 20105:43 pm
Tomahawkin unusual to see you attack a fellow poster like that. This BEAR fellow does seem like an insufferable know it all at times though, doesn’t he? Prolly misses all that power he used to wield. Getting shunted off into retirement can be quite traumatic for a lot of his kind.
When he led the Bengals into the playoffs agaonst the Steelers (where he blew out his knee) he was establishing himself as one of the best QB’s in the game. Now he seems to be unable to throw with any force.
January 9th, 20105:45 pm
With closed arm holes so their….chests don’t hang out. It’s supposed to look like this for guys
Most amazing sporting event I’ve actually experienced…though I didn’t get into the game itself…was the 1996 World Cup in France. Every night was one huge party in Paris…especially when France played (and won, obviously)….no way you could sleep. The town was rockin’ on those nights so much, you just had to leave the hotel room and go party with ‘em.
January 9th, 20105:47 pm
Wow, UGA is playing well. Very impressive
I’m not gonna get my hopes up but it’d be awesome if we could hang on. And it looks like we’ve got a good future with Mark Fox…at least so far
January 9th, 20105:49 pm
By the way…that was a typo… it was 1998 World Cup…sorry.
January 9th, 20105:50 pm
Rob – I agree that Carson’s throws are not what they were before he was injured. Just in this game alone, lots of underthrows and overthrows.
January 9th, 20105:56 pm
Congrats DOB on actually using a song that would rank high on just about everyone’s song meter. Sam Cooke was a genius(not to mention the most important single person in the history of soul music) and that song is, IMO, his best. Sam Cooke, ah yes……
Did my Jackets ever need something good to happen or what! Great win but to be honest they looked to have better talent and deeper to boot. Also congrats to the Dogs as it appears the way they are playing Kansas the win over GT was no fluke.
Rock on….have they buried that horseshoe under 1st base yet?
January 9th, 20105:57 pm
oh….make that Kentucky!!
January 9th, 20106:01 pm
UK only 2-13 for 3…and only 15-25 from the charity stripe…..very ugly shooting performance so far. Definitely keeping UGA in the game.
January 9th, 20106:04 pm
Soph – didn’t mind too much losing to GT – especially now, since W&M turned a 4 point halftime lead into a 25 point win…
January 9th, 20106:06 pm
#4 – Loss
#5 – Loss
#10 – Loss
#14 – Loss
#16 – Loss
Not a good day for ranked teams.

Thank you for the complimentary comment. As a citizen of the USA I accept it as my right, not a privilege, but not taken for granted, to live in a free and open society. That said, even a casual reading of history makes it clear how for fortunate I am, so it would seem to me taking ones civic duties seriously, is the least one can do.
January 9th, 20106:10 pm
VJ – I loved your other team losing to Tech. Made my day.
January 9th, 20106:11 pm
Oh my. I was ready to call ballgame but UGA is keeping up!
Still can't believe....
we traded Javier Vazquez for Melky Cabrera and prospects.
jeffrey d -
I may be very critical of our corporate owners but myself and many braves fans I know get tired of watching the Phillies and Mets do whatever is needed to make all aspects of their teams better…
L Media has gone cheap on us 2 years in a row and I think enough is enough and its time for a Change!
I’m like a snake I don’t attack people unless they provoke me…
And when that happens (which is rare) then I put them on ignore, life is too short to get involved in an internet pillow-fight
Now it’s time to listen to some old Blackstreet and chill out
January 9th, 20106:12 pm
Still can’t believe you don’t understand the purposes of the trade
January 9th, 20106:13 pm
Well, nevermind. I give UGA credit for staying in it though.
What’s that? Huh?
Well…we won the 1st half. I’ll chalk it up as .5 in the win column
January 9th, 20106:14 pm
Actually, I said before the game that I was a little concerned about this game today. I knew it wouldn’t be a blowout. Good effort by UGA.
January 9th, 20106:15 pm
What’s that? Huh?
Heath – I believe UK almost lost at home to a constantly rebuilding UGA team. I’d lay off the smack a little
January 9th, 20106:18 pm
Of course, if UGA had won, I’d be acting like they were the greatest team ever and that I knew they’d win all along
January 9th, 20106:20 pm

Just visited the “Bears” web page. Was impressed by the banner “Liberals feel, Conservatives think”
What was it you found so impressive about that statement?
At least you beat Tech this week.
January 9th, 20106:21 pm
UGA deserves a lot of credit…no doubt. The fact that they won even though they couldn’t hit shots today (2-14 from 3 and 22-33 from the free throw line) shows how good they can be. Which, it what I said about UK, KU and Texas earlier today when Purdue lost today. Purdue, unlike those three teams, is not able to give the ball to a guy down low or their point guard to just take the game over when they are having an off night from the field. At the end of the day, UK, KU, and Texas wins these ugly games…which every team has. I think this says more about a team than when all the shots are falling.
Hey Bat, it’s been a while. How do you rate the Falcons this season?
January 9th, 20106:25 pm
Hi Soph, all things considered, I would say getting the, never had back to back winning seasons monkey off the Falcons back was a big deal.
January 9th, 20106:28 pm
Yup Bat, true. I’m glad we never have to hear about the back to back thing again.
January 9th, 20106:30 pm
Who would have thought the kicking game would cause such problems. I have high expectations for next year.
ust visited the “Bears” web page. Was impressed by the banner “Liberals feel, Conservatives think”
DOB was right, all the right wingers will be coming on to this board from that one with their political comments. Don’t know why people can’t keep their damn proselytizing off this board, from both sides of the spectrum. From commies to nazis, none of it belongs here.
January 9th, 20106:32 pm
Tweet from David Pollack:
From what I am getting guys I think Georgia has made a very SMART choice on there next DC, nothing 100% but def looks good.
From what I have gotten it is already a done deal. How does that make you feel Georgia fans?
January 9th, 20106:34 pm
I’m excited about next year too! The D stepped it up in the final three games. I think with a few more pieces, they’ll be decent. Plus, hopefully Ryan and Turner will be healthy and return to their 2008 form.
January 9th, 20106:39 pm
Yeah Soph, get some guys healthy, have a good draft and the sky is the limit. I’m sitting here in the FL panhandle freezing my butt off, thinking about spring training.
January 9th, 20106:40 pm
Perhaps the fewest “wows” from John Wall since the beginning of the season.
This will give all the Appalachians still using dial-up something to fret about on the internet until UK plays Florida on Tuesday night.
January 9th, 20106:49 pm
Where is P-Lentz At?
I’d thought he’d be thought he’d be on here talking noise about Tony Homo and his Cowgirls?
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
