If Jermaine Dye signs for a team at 6-7 mill I’m not going to be a happy camper, considering that we could have got him below market-value….

Tom,

You really think Dye will get that much money?

for the record… DOB has never said Braves are close to signing Damon. Think all he’s ever said was that there is mutual interest and that Damon would be a decent fit. So, DOB-Bowman SuperBrawl 2010 will have to wait I’m afraid.

If there’s ever been better proof that you need to stick to R. Kelly, I can’t imagine it. You’re calling 6-7 million dollars for Dye below-market?

Now I see why N8 gets so darn pessimistic in the summer. He’s so overly optimistic during the offseason, there’s no way they’ll ever measure up.

6-7 million for Dye???

Sounds a little high to me……after his huge drop off in the second half. I’d rather have Caveman.

Tomahawkin -

Would you seriously prefer Dye at $6 million over giving Heyward a chance? Granted, I’ll admit I’d prefer him over Melky for 4th OF. But then again, not at that price. Dye is old, can’t run, can’t field and might have shown signs last season of losing bat speed, power abd ability to hit for average. $1-2 million? Yes, please. $6-7 million? No, thanks. Let him be somebody else’s headache.

DOB-Bowman SuperBrawl 2010

Maybe we can get it going. All we need is another blog posting indicating that Damon was spotted in Atlanta this weekend and would make a great fit for the team. Quick, someone photoshop Damon at a Buckhead bar with Andre 3000, Jeff Foxworthy, and NeNe from the Real Housewives of Atlana.

And for the record, I only know who NeNe is because my wife is watching that show on the DVR in my manroom right next to me. Why I’m allowing her to do this – I have no idea.

At this stage in his career, I think his wife could probably be a more consistent player. I say sign both of them and list ‘em on roster as Nomar Garciaparraham.

Reasons I’m still married: 1) I have a Manroom. 2) My Manroom has it’s own bathroom. 3) Martin Prado. True story – my wife loves the guy. She watches baseball just to see him play. As a result, I convinced her to start going to games with me. If he’s ever traded, I’ll probably have to buy a Harley and obsess over random music no one has ever heard.

I’m Putting My Money on Dye Going to a team like Kansas City (Bottom Dwellers) for 4-7 mill

Redstick

I don’t think Heyward makes the team out of S. Training for the Fact that he was injured in the Arizona Fall league which I think will slow him down a bit. Plus I want Dye Here for the fact that he’d be a better option in the 4 hole as opposed to the slop we got over the offseason

Add to that Dye would be a good mentor to Heyward…

And as much as I love Heyward and his Raw skills he could be the Next George Lombard

Let’s see…
early off-season rumors: Dye to play 1st base, trade for Willingham to play LF and trade for Uggla to play second base/OF.
actual signings/latest rumors: signed Glaus for 1st base and Hinske to backup all corner positions; courting Damon to play OF, and perhaps leaving room for Heyard to make debut early in 2010 season.

I must say, while it is a bit less than expected in power department, I like the Glaus potential and the Heyward possibilities.

Melky’s numbers did improve this year and he is only 24 with three years under his belt. Billy Walsh

his numbers improved because he moved into a better hitters park, how hard is that to understand?

Tomahawkin - I can see your point about Heyward not starting outta spring training. Might be wise not to rush him, plus the Braves would save arbitration years too, right? However, I still don’t like the Dye idea. He needs to be a DH in American League. No business being in NL. Not unless he’d sign with us for $1 million + incentives.

Yeah I called Dye Signing for 6-7 mill below Mkt value for the fact that he has hit his whole career despite his slump in the 2nd half last year. Dye was looking at getting broke off at about 9-10 mill this offseason just like LaRoche…

Wren should’ve let Hudson go to begin with. If that had happened we;d have Dye or Damon right now instead of Milky Cabrera, and Hickey..

Perfectly Put

With our Ballpark dimensions Milky will be lucky to hit 10 homers this season

I think alot of players are gonna be playing for way less. Loaf made 2 mil for us last year, so he’ll most likely make less this year if he doesnt retire. Dye, Nady, Damon all will get 5 mil or less prolly. If LaRoche’s best offer was 1 yr 5-6 mil i dont see how any of them top that. But it would be wise to add one if they can since it looks like prices are dropping way down if they want a job that is.

Honestly, I think Melky will be lucky to even see the field for the Braves this season. Hope he hasn’t unpacked yet, because I think he hasn’t yet reached his destination for the 2010 season.

Melky and Damon’s numbers were both inflated with that short RF porch in the new Yankee Stadium.

Also, it is entirely possible, that at the Ted, both would have a decrease of HR’s, but they also might become a double machine(s).

You just can’t blanketly (is that a word?) say that a player will not hit as well in one stadium over another stadium. Too many factors. You can make a reasonable guess, but you really won’t know until they play there.

I really respect Glavine and always have, so it’s awesome news to hear he might be back with the Braves in some way. I think when McDowell leaves Glavine will be the next pitching coach, though he’s a real family man so I don’t know if he’d want to still commit that much time to the game. I have a good feeling something will be worked out as long as Wren treats him with the highest respect that he deserves. Don’t run him off.

If not Damon, I still wonder about Nady or maybe even Ankiel. Two Boras guys and we all know the money situation with Atlanta right now, so Dye might come the cheapest(cringe). Who knows, they might just stand pat with what they have … either way, no shocker.

he can’t be a 4th OFer, he can’t play CF at all and he stinks at the other 2 positions. anyway the guy is likely toast.his bat speed was so slow last year that one day a bird landed on it the middle of a swing

Art has been characterized in terms of mimesis, expression, communication of emotion, or other values. During the Romantic period, art came to be seen as “a special faculty of the human mind to be classified with religion and science”.:
