Andrew in PA……..I have all the faith in my Cowboys winning tomorrow night. We’re healthy and playing great ball right now. We have pitched 2 straight shutouts and putting all kinds of pressure on the opposing QB.
What is helping Dallas is that they dont have to blitz to pressure the QB. DeMarcus Ware, Theo Ratliff, Anthony Spencer, and the Russian kid we signed from San Diego as a free agent are all putting pressure on the QB……allowing our safeties to play back and stop the pass.
Plus we have 3 good running backs who can be rotated and kept fresh.
Our only worry is the field goal kicking. Hopefully we will continue to play well enough where a late field goal isnt needed to win games.
With Bagwell the only viable candidate joining the ballot next year, most of the holdovers will gain support. Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven need to gain just a tiny bit of support — Blyleven fell five votes short this year, Alomar eight votes — and both will make it. Which won’t leave a lot of room for anyone else. Bagwell might make it, or he might not. As I noted earlier today, there were a lot of big-hitting first basemen in Bagwell’s era, and it’s not clear that he did enough to distinguish himself in the minds of the voters. On the first ballot, anyway.
If not 2011, perhaps 2012 … and 2012 has to be the target for just about every current candidate not named Alomar or Blyleven or (perhaps) Bagwell. In 2012, the best candidate joining the ballot will be Bernie Williams, who might be the only new candidate to draw enough support (at least five percent) to remain on the ballot for another year.
In 2013, though?
Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Craig Biggio, Curt Schilling, Sammy Sosa, and Mike Piazza.
In 2014: Tom Glavine, Jeff Kent, Greg Maddux, Mike Mussina, and Frank Thomas.
After 2014: Randy Johnson, Mariano Rivera, Ivan Rodriguez, Trevor Hoffman, Omar Vizquel, Gary Sheffield, Ken Griffey, Chipper Jones, etc.
The voters’ failure to elect Alomar and Blyleven this year will have little impact on those two, because they’re shoo-ins next year. However, their mere presence on the 2011 ballot will cost Jack Morris and Barry Larkin some support. But that might not matter, either. With both just clearing 50 percent this year, getting to 75 percent in just two years would have been a tall order regardless of who’s on (or off) the ballot next year.
Next year, Alomar and Blyleven will take their rightful places in Cooperstown. Bagwell will fall short, but he’ll benefit from the paucity of top candidates in 2012 and become the first real Houston Astro in the Hall of Fame. And everyone else? Including Barry Larkin and Tim Raines, both of whom were better ballplayers than Andre Dawson and Jim Rice? If they have a real chance, it’s too many years out for us to see.
KC………the next 7 weeks will fly by for me IF my Cowboys make it to the Super Bowl. Spring Training begins less than 2 weeks after the Super Bowl is over with.
THE BEAR Illegitimi non carborundum………..in response to your 11pm post, didnt you say that all was welcome and that people are treated like next door neighbors in a previous post?
I have no problem with one saying “all conservatives welcome” or that “if you are a liberal, expect the majority conservative board to give you a hard time”. However it’s kind of cheezy to come across like “all is welcome” when in fact if one starts talking about supporting Obama, he gets ripped a new one by the majority on the blog.
I got a question for all the great bloggers here tonight:
Does DOB remind you of that 40 something year old guy walking around in mall with ear phones and a back pack on while wearing an earring, or is that just me? I highly douby he wears an earring, but ya never know. Reason I ask is because we were in the mall earlier and a 40 something yr old guy fit that description. He even looked like Dave in the face.
Solid signings if Glaus stays healthy, and we all know that Hinske is a major upgrade over blog favorite Greg Norton. Pitching staff is still solid, even tho we traded Javy. I expect D-Lowe to rebound Hanson and JJ to have solid seasons and Hudson to continue to get better coming back from TJ surgery. Solid offseason, I would say.
Crime Dog……….good catch. Jay Ratliff I meant, not Theo Ratliff. However Ratliff bats the passes down from the line of scrimmage like old Theo used to block shots.
I’m Ok with the Vasquez/Lowe moves. Best season ever, braves trade Vasquez at his likely peak and got some good stuff in return. He is going to get killed in the AL East with his style of pitching and the little league parks. I don’t know what the Yankees are thinking. Also, Lowe is unlikely to suck as bad as he did last year. FWIW
Tomahawkin……..be sure to pay your bills before you put your money on the Eagles tomorrow night. I’d hate to see you get evicted because you lost the rent money on the Eagles.
I wasn’t trying to start a fight, only threatening to start one. No, I’m not back at school yet. [sigh]. I’m definitely ready to be, though. I’ve had enough of my hometown in the winter to last me a year or so…
This could be a 95 win team but this team could be a 60 win team. -J-MAN
Thanks for narrowing that down for us. Now… the lottery numbers please.
Well Redstick19 my point being if we put our hope on older players and players coming off of injury. There is high-risk and High reward I mean you have Hudson coming off TJ surgery, Chipper Jones coming off his worst season and injury proned season, Troy Glaus basically missing all of 2009 and his numbers were on the decline before he got hurt.Hinske having a slumping year. Melkey Cabrera is no not even as good as Diaz who IMO should get an opprunity before Cabrera. We lose our best pitcher and pi$$edd off another one in Derek Lowe with the trade rumors. So thats why I say this team is capable of winning 95 games but is also capble of wining 60 games but if you looked closer at my last post I predicted this current team is a 79 to 83 win team. But if you want lottery numbery how about 3-9-10-25-38 and powerball of 18 maybe I just won you a few million lol

Roman Gal, leather pants? Huh, I could too, Roman Gal. Red or black?
Chuckles Dimry, you sound like you’d welcome Javy getting lit up in the A.L. East or something. Not me. I hope the guy wins the Cy Young award. Seems like an awesome guy, and MAN, what I’d give to have him back heading our rotation. Even Chipper thinks that way in Bowman’s latest blog.
I do think Lowe sould bounce back some this season because he’s apparantly a work-a-holic and he should, more than most, have ironed out the mechanics during this offseason.
He should’ve let Hudson walk if he knew L Media was going to go Cheap for the second straight year…
And I don’t know about you guys but I still can’t get over how Bad WhineBrenner ripped us off in the Vazquez deal. I’d a felt much better if Wren had got a bucket of baseballs as opposed to the Slop we got…
I thought the Falcons were destined to make a run last year but our favorite Linebacker who is now a Cowboy forgot how to run zone coverage on a 3rd and 16. But moving on now…..
Brandon from Warner Robins……….The other night I explained the difference between the 2007 Cowboys and the 2009 Cowboys.
Even though we finished the regular season 13-3……we lost 2 of our last 3 while playing badly. Even with homefield, I had a bad feeling going into that Giants game.
However, finished 3-0, beating 2 good football teams. The 2007 team didnt put nearly the pressure on the QB that this year’s team is about to generate.
Also, Tony Romo has matured and is doing a much better job of not turning the ball over. Dallas is good enough, it doesnt need Romo to win the game. Take what the defense gives him, then when the safeties play up, then take your shot and hit Miles Austin open for a deep one.
Anybody seen Sandra Bullock in the “Blind Side” yet? My wife took me out on a dinner/movie date and we went to see it at the theater. I was rather surprised at how well this feel good sports flick based on true events impressed me. It’s accurately based on the best best-selling book —The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game, which tells the story of Michael Oher who was taken in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft ( 23rd pick) by the Baltimore Ravens.
This little dandy of a film is a real sleeper. It’s an excellent date movie/ sports flick good for all adults (PG-13 rated) and of course, if you’re a Sandra Bullock fan this one will really please you.
Andrew in PA………I already commented about my take on the 2007 Cowboys.
Dude, I have watched every Dallas game since Direct TV has offered the NFL Ticket (I live in San Francisco, so naturally before The NFL Ticket, I missed a number of Dallas games since I first moved here in 1995). This team is much different and better than those Dallas teams from 1996 on who became one and done play-off teams.
Time management, my friend. Whenever you get the urge to blog when you should be studying, just think of our old pal Paulie Dentz. That should hold you off for at least 10 minutes.
It’s accurately based on the best best-selling book —The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game, which tells the story of Michael Oher who was taken in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft ( 23rd pick) by the Baltimore Ravens. Coach
Oher has had a few somewhat negative comments about it, but nothing real bad.
Sandra had a great year with 2 high grossing movies.
U know Tommasuckin I’m tired of you saying “I’d rather we got a bucket of balls opposed to what we got for Vasquez”! If you are not any smarter than that just go back to the Mets board.
Andrew in PA………I loved T.O.’s quote after the Super Bowl: “I’m not the one who got tired”, lol (referring to McNappy’s inability to run the hurry up because he was tired).
What’s more likely to happen: Armageddon (the way it is described in the bible)? Or one of the extinction disasters (asteroid, volcanic, hypercane, etc.) that the History Channel likes to show that could wipe out mankind?
Reason I asked, both the Bible and The History Channel love to talk about the “end of the world”.
I think by the AS break when Hudson has 8 wins most people are going to understand 3 years at 27 mil was a pretty good deal for a 33 year old pitcher with a lifetime 148 – 78 record.
“U know Tommasuckin I’m tired of you saying “I’d rather we got a bucket of balls opposed to what we got for Vasquez”! If you are not any smarter than that just go back to the Mets board.”
If you are tired of hearing it, then ignore it, Punto..
If you have any better insight on how our Cheap owners could improve this team then let me know?
No One and T-Hawkin means No One Compares to Jordan
The closest you can get is Kobe, LaBoring James is another BSPN Fad who walks off the court when he loses in the playoffs w/out congradulating the winning team, Jordan would’ve never done that
Andrew in PA………How did you feel 2 years ago when Jeff Garcia led the Eagles to the play-offs after taking over for an injured McNappy……and his mom posting on their website that she couldnt enjoy the Eagles success because her son McNappy was hurt? Your fellow Eagle fanatics “really showed her some Brotherly Love” when it came out what she said.
Lentz — Romo may or may not choke tomorrow but I will tell you that Ray Edwards, Kevin Williams, Pat Williams and Jared Allen are busy RESTING.
IF the Cowboys win…..Jason Garrett better have the game plan of his life — because Allen is going to embarass that Mark Henry lookalike, Flozell Adams. Romo will be chased into the men’s room, the parking lot, St. Paul and eventually out of the state. Those guys with fresh legs will be a problem.
So my advice is, enjoy that possible win. If they lose I guess you have plenty of bridges to choose from in the Bay Area.
Brandon from Warner Robins……..you need to find yourself a “Sugar Momma” who will take care of you so you can afford to lose your money making bets against me, lol.
Tomahawkin……….While LeBron may not be the best “sport” out there when it comes to sportsmanship……..his talent is unquestioned. Dude is a beast on the court.
Look at who he has surrounding him: who on that team before this season would you consider to be star material? LeBron’s had virtually no help. If LeBron had Shaq in his prime, they would have won 6 or 7 rings in a row.
In a way I’m like DOB. every team i pick to win always seems to lose and lose big. i think i’ll just stick to the competitive banter and let the experts do the picking.
Coach (2011 or Bust)……….anyone can spout off at the mouth and say that one team is going to whoop up on another team.
However there is nothing like backing up one’s claim……than putting your money where your mouth is.
If you want to say that you “think” that the Cowboys will lose…..that’s one thing. However if you say that it’s a guarantee…..then why not back it up by wagering some cold hard cash?
……….It must suck to be rooting against a team (my Cowboys) instead of rooting for your own team (whatever team you root for that is on the outside looking in).
Anyway, I’ll enjoy watching my Cowboys whip up on the Eagles for the 3rd time this year. Some of you haters can continue doing just that…….hating.
Actually Lentz, when your starting QB and RB get injured and you still finish 9-7, not bad.
And I’m rooting for your team tomorrow because I want to see what Jared Allen will do to Flozell Adams.
Scoreboard — other than that first dominating drive you guys beat us fair and square this year, but I promise you that the Falcons are a team on the rise and will have to be dealt with. As crappy as they played between games 6 and 13, they still showed great character at the end of the season.
Enjoy your possible playoff win tomorrow. You are blowing off the Eagles like they have nothing.
Falcon fans, wouldn’t it be sooooo sweet if Brooking was burned for a key first down or even the winning score?
Actually birddawg — What I’m rooting for is for the NFL to change the rules so teams like the Falcons don’t have to face 4 TEAMS COMING OFF BYE WEEKS (Including Dallas). Should be max 2 but if you notice the best game Atlanta played all season was at San Francisco (COMING OFF A BYE WEEK!).
Great win for the Hawks. Tomorrow Orlando. Monday Boston. Who the heck made that schedule? And they do it again in 2 weeks!

Dallas wins 34-14.
