I agree that overall, I would prefer Diaz over Damon… However, Damon is a natural leadoff hitter, while Diaz and the Braves’ default leadoff hitter McClouth are not naturals in that spot. McClouth is passable as leadoff, while Damon would be the better. That’s the ONLY reason I would go get Damon if he could be had for cheap or if some team wows us with a prospect for Melky. Both of those teams moved to LA from the cities they went back to (can’t remember the reason the Rams went back, but the Raiders got involved in a spat with the Coliseum Commission and the city so Al took his team and ran back to Oakland, which promised them all kinds of things that they could not deliver on…)
The biggest issue with LA is that we don’t have a great stadium- but there are now 2 competing groups that want to build a state-of-the-art stadium (or update the Coliseum- which I am totally against…)

Okay, let’s try this for making a somewhat easy subject even easier.
You might think that marrying the person you love and respect a sign of putting things right and in order for the benefit of each other.
An institution of marriage sets things in an orderly and legal position to enable the other person to a commitment from you that entitles you to all benefits awarded to one another.
I have seen a large amount of things in my long lifetime. Such as a family member ie parents or children stepping in after a death and taking everything from the “common law” spouse. Without any legal standing a blood relative has favor over a paperless companion. The events following an unexpected and untimely death of a person entitles the settlement of the estate with family claiming all types of things.
So institution of the church is not as huge as the law. All family members can come in and say the you told them this and told them that.
No one can refute because you are gone so the courts have to make a determination.
GatorBrave, parts of South Florida are not bad. Martin County (Stuart) is known as the sailfish capital of the world and will not allow a building more than four stories tall. We don’t have all those ugly skyscraper condos and it sure looks good.
Also the county fathers refused to allow the state and feds to put I-95 or the Florida Turnpike through town and although there were gaps in the highways for many years they finally built them around town on the west side. They refused to build an exit on I-95 for Stuart for a few years but finally got over that crap.
We have a great town and a very good place to live. Somebody came in here a few years back and bought up hundreds of acres of a cattle ranch and was planning to build an airport for those super giant 600+ passenger planes to come in here from Europe and then disburse the people around the country. We fought that thing to a standstill and won. They had to sell the land for a loss and we could care less. My house would have been right under the final approach for those monsters just 7 miles from touchdown. The noise would have been unbearable.
general question to the blog: what does marriage have anything to do with baseball, sports, music or BBQ? Stop it already! If you wanna get married, then marry. If you don’t wanna be married, don’t get married. Why is this a debate here?
Paul— This is word for word what BEAR wrote concerning you and his blog today:
Concerning Lentz, I simply don’t like the guy. He wouldn’t last an hour on my blog and I can say that with certainty. He simply bugs me and I have spent too many years in the business world where at times I had to put up with his type. In my retirement years I don’t have to do that anymore. And that is another good thing about retiring early.
I’m having trouble finding where he put any political view in this. Point them out for me. He put his view that he thinks you’re a basically a douche, but nothing political. Now if you want to go back days or weeks ago and bring something up, go ahead, I was commenting on an ignorant fool (and ignorant for ignoring a well known rule against political talk, nothing about your views which I’m not going to comment on whether I agree or not) posting his political views on the blog TODAY. And I’ve said numerous times in the past when people started talking political views on here that they need to stop.

Lentz, you finally posted something with which I agree.
And I want to thank you for that terrific boost you gave my blog in your long winded political outburst above.
I don’t talk politics on David’s blog as it is not supposed to be here. And I will continue respecting his desires which I agree with incidentally. Politics are for other places. I haven’t even put the hammer on you about your private life although I am sick of hearing about it.
I simply don’t like you. Is that so hard to understand?
Chuck James was Solid until the 6th!!! ………..I appreciate your 4:43pm post. While I was lucky with predicting the exact score of the game, I knew we was going to win that game.
Also, it’s nice to see someone who has an appreciation for a man “calling it like it is”. By the way, I’m 37.
Charlie Sheen said years ago, when asked why he paid for sex, said: “I’m not paying for sex, I’m paying for them to leave after I’m done having sex with them”, lol. Now THAT’S calling it like it is, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lentz will stop when a fence is erected that will keep him out of this place and not until then. His ego must be fed and that is exactly what he is doing. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone quite as over the top as that guy. He is either seriourly ill or just so caught up in himself he can’t stop it. I know why he moved from Arkansas to San Francisco. Those good folks in Arkansas would have strung him up by now.
BossLady……….I understand the concept of marriage for those who value “order”, having children, and not being alone. However, not all of us want those kinds of responsibilities. Some of us value and treasure doing what we want to do without worrying about someone nagging on you because you want to watch football all day long.
I ENJOY watching football all day long. If you think that I “settle” for watching football all day long because I cant “meet a woman” (as some of you contend by your assertion that I go on Craigslist to find a woman because I cant “meet a woman” the so called normal way)……..then you are out of touch with reality. I LOVE watching sports, playing poker, looking at porn, having sex with whomever I’m sexually compatible with, falling asleep watching SportsCenter without having to cuddle (which is uncomfortable because I like to fall asleep laying down), winding down without having to listen to some female ramble on about how her day went, etc……………..all by myself. I have plenty of things to do that bring me pleasure in life without being shackled by a relationship where I have to make compromises.
I think Damon would be a much better leadoff man than anyone else we have on the roster right now. joe R
I don’t think there would be enough difference to pay another 3-4 mil for. Nate is not all that bad leading off. Decent OBP and a higher steal success rate than Damon would likely have at this point. I believe that there is very little to no chance Atlanta will pick him up, unless Wren finds a sweet deal to turn Melky.
I dont know why everyone gets all worked up about Lentz. I used to argue with him and then realized that he has a right to his opinion which I usually disagree with him. He likes to hear himself talk (as I do occasionally) and likes to get people stirred up.
I read the blog this way. I scroll down looking for DOBs comments on the Braves and ignore his music stuff because I am not into it. I scroll looking for Brave comments by bloggers I respect. I see Lentz name (or names) and keep going. pretty simple.
I do agree with Lentz on one thing though. We both believe Bobby Cox is one of the most overated managers in baseball history but still root for the Braves anyway.
Yeah, we have that in common, I am a Dallas fan too. I never choose to tell anybody because they act like Dallas has won 9 championships in a row. Up until yesterday they havn’t been near a threat of anything for almost 15 years, so I don’t see why people almost die when you say “Cowboys”. Maybe it’s Jerry Jones? I don’t know or really care I am 25 and have liked them since they were on TV relentlessly since I was 5 or so. I live near Philly and I thank you LORD for not making me an Eagles or Phillies fan.
I like to come on here on my down time and talk sports and music or if I’m traveling get some food reccomendations or whatever. The last thing I want to do is “start” anything with anybody. It seems kind of pointless to go out of the way to start fights on cyberspace. Anyway, Lentz, with all due respect, because when you talk sports it is relevant and I have enjoyed my debates with you. However, I know you feel like you’re getting teamed up on or whatever (havn’t used that phrase since the 8th grade) but you just need to know what to filter and what to actually “submit” on here. I am saying this as a person who has been here since day one and loves to come here to talk Braves baseball when time permits. I hate to have to see all the nonsense in between that wasn’t here in the past.
I know it’s a down time in the off-season and that’s why the blog has basically gone to garbage until Frank stops acquiring the likes of Erik Hinske to make the big offensive splash. In that regard, the only way Atlanta has success this year is with either Glaus staying healthy or Heyward having a Francoeur-esque rookie season splash. If both happen and the pitching can stay healthy the sky is the limit for this team.
Anyway, back to the point I originally guess I was trying to make. Lentz, just leave some things at the door man, don’t bring all of your possessions and information with your sports talk. I will be the first to admit I have had some hearty chuckles with some stuff that is not relevant because I guess I am so foreign to Craigslist and certain categories it has. That’s why I give you the propers for telling it like it is when %95 of people who do that don’t tell anyone. More power to you but why is your sex life and how you get it on the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Atlanta Braves, Derek Lowe is cool and ready to pitch blog? I’m not trying to get your riled up on me, please don’t, I don’t need answers either, I’m basically posing that question for you to ask yourself. Please don’t think I am “attacking” you, I am simply hoping that since you are 37 maybe you can turn things around if you plan on being here for awhile. I understand people have started it up with you, just try to scroll over that too and try to stick to sports is all I ask because when I want to come here to talk sports I want to do that not have flashbacks from 7th grade recess of bullying etc. When you respond to people they just get going even more and it all becomes a mess….
I had to say something because enough is enough and I hope we all can see that and move on. Back to sports talk…. Hopefully….
joerochester – are you talking about how he’s yelling at the other players and stuff? If so, I was wondering the same thing b/c I’ve never seen him like that before.
Oh no. The Damon talk has resurfaced … say it ain’t so. Not impossible as DOB pointed out earlier, but it’s probably as likely as Chipper sarting the year at 1st and Glaus over to his more accustomed position at the hot corner. Damon a Yankee once again in ‘10 … pretty sure about that.
Not to be a party pooper here, but all this football talk lately has me even more ansty for the day after the superbowl when this place is completely filled with Braves talk, and some arguing back and forth by me and Lew. Like Lew, he’s grown on me.
flange, that post about Lentz wasn’t necessarily geared towards having a lot of “substance”. More like I want to smack that moron on the back of the head kinda post.
maybe dense is the sub for mid winter off season filler material. After all how many times can one post an “how about this lineup”. Just wish they would hire someone to do this who is a little bit more mature. Where is the humor?
Chuck James, wut up! Good to see you back, man. I gotta go out with my fiancee, yes, I just got engaged, so we’re going out to eat to celebrate. Ya’ll have a great night and stay away from the Letntz’ and the goofs like “Gatorbrave” and whoever else tries to stir up crap.
If every simply just “scrolled” past all of your posts for a couple of days…would you still frequent this blog? And when you answer…just a yes or no will suffice.
I’m in the minority but the dude comes correct when he talks baseball. Too bad he is a cowturds fan however, but I just don’t understand the people on here who get off taking cheap shots at others on an internet blog…?
My gut tells me that he starts the season in AAA and gets called up in June. I don’t know why our Cheap owners are expecting him to carry the team on his back once he arrives….
See it’s there, great points about Cox, Lentz. The glaring, glaring weaknesses were the overuse of Bennett and Norton. It just wouldn’t freaking END!!!! It got so bad I came on here expressing my sick desire of Bennett’s pitching hand to somehow get mashed (which some people didn’t like). The next week I believe he mashed his own hand, rightfully so. The one game that still irks me is when he walked in the game winning run against the Mets in Flushing. I hated him immensely after that.
I have to disagree with KJ and Francoeur strictly on the grounds of those two guys had previous solid success, are very young and could have just both hit minor walls at the time. You have to stick with those guys because their All-Star potential because once you bench them, there is no turning back… Thankfully, Wren made that decision for Cox and now we all see what it’s like to not have glaring holes in the lineup. Again, if Glaus can stay healthy or Heyward can make a Francoeur-esque rookie splash or if all the stars are aligned, both happen, the sky is the limit for Atlanta in 2010!
“let me ask you this: If Dallas goes into Minnesota and beats the Vikings, will you give Tony Romo and the Cowboys some props?”"
LOL, The T-Hawkin gives nothing to nobody! If Tony Homo wants my respect then he has “To pass the Test by Beating Test, if ya smell what I’m cooking”….
In other words the BSPN lovefest over Homo is in full effect and I’m banking on him to flop under pressure at the Homerdome next week
Has anyone checked the Braves depth chart lately? They have Glaus, Heyward, Schafer, B. Jones, Blanco, Saito and Wagner all listed but no sign of Melky Cabrera. Not a mention.
He is listed on the roster but not on the depth chart and even on the roster he has not been assigned a number. That seems strange to me.
TnBrian-
Fear not, the Damon talk will subside quickly I’m sure. While I wouldn’t mind seeing him on roster instead of Melky, I just don’t think the Braves will make a move for another OF. We’ve got Heyward in the pipeline, and don’t forget about Schafer! Just don’t need another OF unless it’s a deal we couldn’t refuse like for a Braun-type player. By the way, whatever happened to Braves getting Josh Willingham? man, there were some that said that deal was as done as done could be… that’s part of what I love about offseason- rumors aplenty fly. Fun to speculate anyways.
I don’t know if that was a poorly timed joke or you are serious. Judging from your previous posts I’ll assume you are serious and if so, congratulations man! Look forward to talking ball sometime soon, hope your grandfather is hanging in there too….
Guess we all need to do what makes us happy and to each his own. That’s the way I look at it, although I don’t think it should get posted here. I know the cheap shots probably won’t end but a man can hope can’t he? Again, the way I see it, if nobody ridicules in the first place there would be no freshman year in high school battles. But I guess the world isn’t perfect. I tried.
Tomahawkin…………I totally agree with your take on Jason Heyward. I advocated for him to be handled the way Tommy Hanson was last year.
The only scenario I was in favor of allowing Heyward to start the year in Atlanta was if the Braves had signed Matt Holliday. Holliday would have taken a lot of pressure off of Heyward.
WOW. Very good effort from UT today. DOB has got to be miserable right now. KU will be OK no matter the result of this game. The SEC, as a whole, could use this ‘W’ though.
I simply attribute that to whoever runs the depth chart is lazy and has not updated it. Nothing more… It’s happened in the past, stupid errors on the depth chart, I wouldn’t read into it…
Soph: There are weaknesses. Mostly at the PG position. I feel that we have to trade for a Felton or an Alston to compete with the top notch. Bibby can’t guard PG’s whick makes JJ guard them which makes JJ be less effective on the offensive side of the ball. If Jamal (JBall) Crawford is off, the Hawks will struggle!
Unfortunately, scrolling past is difficult at this time.
Practically everyone responds in some way, shape, or form to one single poster.
Case in point, page 16 of this blog, i’m guessing maybe what 3-4 posts on this whole page isn’t relating to one singular poster. I find that amazing.
And in writing that, this post becomes one of the many.
I am not a big football fan at all. It is baseball season in my house 24/7 and 365. It drives my wife crazy sometimes. I normally only root against teams I hate like the Cowboys, Steelers ect. However I want the Packers to win so bad because I can’t stand Bret Farve. I want Rodgers to get one more shot to deny Farve a Super Bowl ring. I will root for the Vikings to beat the Boys because I hate Dallas
I was listening to my local radio show today and they were totally dissing Adam Shefter.. saying he never breaks any news… just repeats what we already know.
Chuck James was Solid until the 6th!!! …….great 5:51pm post! The same people who got on you about what you said about Bennett were probably the same ones who vilified me when I said that “Buddy Carlyle must have forgotten to take his insulin shot” when he gave up a couple of homers in the 9th inning mop up duty of a game.
I do have to disagree with you on Cox’s handling of Francoeur and Kelly. I agree with you in the sense that they deserved a shot in the beginning of the season. However in late May, it was apparent that they simply were unable to help us score runs. The month of June killed up from an offensive standpoint. I wish that Frank Wren had sent Kelly and Francoeur down to Triple A the very day that he sent Jordan Schafer down. However Bobby Cox would have no part of that.
I love the makeup of our team. Heyward will play a huge role, and when Schafer is ready he will get a shot as well. No need to block these studs with aging veterans. Good job Wren.
I want the Braves to steal more. We need more stolen bases. Stolen bases turn into runs. If we’re not going to hit for power, we need guys who get on base and into scoring position.
It’s impossible to ignore Dense because everyone 99% of the bloggers hate him. Therefore, most posts are now directed at doing whatever is possible to get him off this blog.
“they were totally dissing Adam Shefter.. saying he never breaks any news”
They’re dead wrong. ESPN had to hire Schefter, because he kept out-scooping all of their guys. He blew ESPNs coverage of the draft a couple of years ago when he kept announcing the picks on NFL Network before they happened.

Also, it’s nice to see someone who has an appreciation for a man “calling it like it is”. By the way, I’m 37.

Hopefully….

Has anyone checked the Braves depth chart lately? They have Glaus, Heyward, Schafer, B. Jones, Blanco, Saito and Wagner all listed but no sign of Melky Cabrera. Not a mention.

They’re dead wrong. ESPN had to hire Schefter, because he kept out-scooping all of their guys. He blew ESPNs coverage of the draft a couple of years ago when he kept announcing the picks on NFL Network before they happened.
