Geezum, Will — if they played 9 innings in all 162 games, they would still fall 42 innings short of 1500.
Are you entirely sure that that’s a reasonable expectation of ANYone?
. . . . . . .
Nope, it’s not.
Only 4 players logged as many as 1400 innings last year — Prince Fielder had the most at 1431, and the other three all had less than 1406.
“It is more likely that each on average will play less than 60% of the innings”
That’d be less than 900 innings by your reckoning, right? (60% x 1500?)
Well, all three of Cabrera, Jones and Damon played in excess of 1120 innings last season (~75%), and were all in the top 100 in MLB innings played last season. That’s out of 1000+ MLB players. Top ten per cent, right?
The sky really isn’t falling after all, now is it?

njbraves………sure, the Cowboys could lose next week. However the Cowboys are playing really well right now. The Eagles simply cannot protect McNabb……nor can they stop Dallas’ running game or Tony Romo.
If the Cowboys can beat Minnesota in the divisional round next week……..then there is a good chance that the NFC Championship game will be held in Dallas because New Orleans could very well be a one and done team. Even if New Orleans advances to the NFC Championship game, Dallas has already shown that they can beat the Saints in New Orleans.
Sure beating Minnesota in Minnesota wont be easy. However, I’m confident that the Cowboys defense can get to Brett Farve and force him into turning the ball over. What is fitting about his game is that the old Brett Farve will officially pass the torch to the young Brett Farve (Tony Romo).

Hank, Pujols is Mr. St Louis. He is a god here. The Cards will not let him walk. Besides the Yankees have already invested alot of money in a 1B, Tex and he just helped them win a WS.
jeffrey d……….dude, I said that I’ve been civil lately. I’m more than willing to let bygones be bygones and move forward being civil. However some of you wont let up with the name calling. Yet the minute I punch back, you hypocrites gang up and attack.
Just calling it like I see it.
The only thing I said about Buddy Carlyle was when he gave up a couple of runs before being yanked, I commented by saying “perhaps he forgot to take insulin shot earlier today”. It was meant to be humorous, not malicious. Some of you look for any excuse to cry foul.
As far as mitchie-san, I said that just because dude serves in the military, does not mean that he is entitled to a free pass when he attacks someone on here. If you call that trivializing someone’s military service, then so be it.
And you jeffrey, you’ve attacked me enough and called me names. For you to bring that up shows how hypocritical you are.
mr baseball……….great 10:46pm post. You hit the nail right on the head.
What about Bobby benching Matt Diaz (despite being in a 13 for 24 stretch) in Chicago so Francoeur could “get some at-bats”? Or Bobby brought in Diaz to pinch bunt during that same series (when he could have used Vazquez or Jair Jurrjens to bunt)?
Yeah, that’s how you attract quality free agents………by benching a player when he’s hot so one of your “boys” can get some at-bats.
i looked for a pic to substantiate my claim… couldn’t find one. Seems I recall that he sported one for just a couple of games, then shaved it off. I could very well be wrong, though. It’s happened before; it’ll happen again…
Wayne in Utah……dude, I never said that it was you who was passionate about the Braves trading Lowe for Rivera. However there were many others who actually debated all the reasons why the Angels would make that deal.
Is your memory that lax? You seriously cant remember the blog being filled with Lowe for Rivera OR Lowe for Swisher deals that I was ridiculed for saying that were NEVER going to be made?
jeffrey d……….dude, I said that I’ve been civil lately. I’m more than willing to let bygones be bygones and move forward being civil
Hey, if you want to put all of that in the past, then great. I’ll look forward to mature conversations with you. But you have to understand some people might not be so easy to let go of the past since it’s so….decorated.
No heck no, that was certainly NOT all you said to Mitchie! I come after you because I don’t like you. I don’t like the fact that you are such an obnoxious azz, even when you are trying to be civil.
You attack folks personally (when you are less civil, you are worse) and you are basically a waste of blog space, as far as I am concerned. You never did apologize to Mitchie for your crude statements to him (something about Gitmo, as I recall). Until you do so, I will either ignore you, or push your buttons, depending on my mood for the day.
From this moment onward tonight, I will ignore you. (your mom still wants her computer back!)
I think maybe I might possibly remember something having to do with a hairy KK…though the picture that keeps popping in my head involves some sort of hybrid Clint Eastwood Asian.
Hank44-”Yankees waiting to sign Pujols next season – seems likely if they’re going to sign Holliday for 100$Mil, maybe Braves need to wait a season and save more money to sign Pujols.”
The Cards have a team option for 2011 for what looks to be $11 million. Beyond that though, I don’t see any way they can afford to keep him. He is on pace to blow past A Rod’s numbers at the same career point, so you have to think he will get A-Rod worthy offers from the large market teams. If the Cardinals sign Holliday for north of $20 million per, there is no way they can hold on to Pujols without a massive increase in payroll. I read a while back that Pujols is willing to take “less money” as long as the Cards are willing to “add pieces to be competitive”. They can’t do that if 2/3 of their payroll is wrapped up in 2 players. It makes me wonder if they will even try to keep him or if they are resigned to let him go. Imagine what they could get in a trade next year.
the lack of balance in our line-up concerns me. To be honest, I’m not sold on Nady. For what it would take to sign him, I dont feel that the Braves should go there. While I would much rather see the Braves open the vault for Matt Holliday, if given the choice between Nady and Damon, I’d pick Damon. At this point in their careers, Damon is the more proven commodity, even if he would be yet another left handed bat in our line-up.
OK, Nameless Blogger Who Is Always Correct….point out where you mentioned “Right handed power” here. You didn’t, rather than admit that there is balance in the lineup, you had to start acting like you were so obviously referring to “right handed power”. Guess admitting you were mistaken when you said there was a lack of balance would just be too much for the likes of you, so instead you have to go on the offensive and start talking about how you guess you should make some things obvious since some can’t read between your lines.
“Bear, are you the Bear that is Tom’s friend?” —– NotAgain
(January 3rd, 2010 … 10:54pm)
NotAgain, in case you’re surfing the blog … my buddy’s moniker is simply, “Bear”. He hasn’t been around since he moved into his own place (no internet access yet). The other Bear is “THE BEAR Illegitimi non carborundum”. If you skip the mock-latin trailer and just remember to refer to him as THE BEAR, there will be less confusion.
Bear, are you the Bear that is Tom’s friend?
“It all depends on which Tom you are referring to.” — THE BEAR Illegitimi non carborundum
Bear, are you the Bear that is Tom’s friend?
“It all depends on which Tom you are referring to. (Brokaw)” —- jeffrey d
Man, my buddy is going to be thrilled with all this popularity, even in his absence.

Are we sure we’re not thinking of Chan Ho Park? I remember he was trying to grow a beard during the playoffs.
Aren’t all you bloggers glad that I am here. I am always right about everything. I told you guys the Braves couldn’t deal Lowe, and every other Braves move (and all major league moves, for that matter), I have predicted EXACTLY.
If you don’t like that I am always right about everything, then you suck like insulin taking Buddy Carlyle and Greg “show me the door” Norton!
Frank from KS (now living in CO)………….Here’s a news flash for you: the failures of the recent past for the Cowboys in the post season was not all Tony Romo’s fault. Unlike most of you on here, I watched the whole Seattle-Dallas game where field goal snap went through Romo’s hands. What many forget is that Romo had the presence of mind to pick the ball and make a dash to the end zone, only to be tackled at the 1 yard line.
The defense struggled in those past play-off games. Plus we didnt have the balance of running and passing that we have now.
This Cowboys team is much better than those teams. Plus we are peaking at the right time.
For years, Peyton was labeled as not being able to win in the play-offs. New England had his number. However he battled through it and won a Super Bowl. Tony Romo has heart. He simply makes plays. The thing that you fail to realize is that he as matured as a QB. He realizes that with this team he doesnt have to force plays, that he can take what the defense is giving him.
Once this weekend is over with, Tony Romo not being able to win in the play-offs will be one less thing that people like be able to say. You’ll have to come up with something new to hate Romo on.
Wayne in Utah…….whatever. I’ll take the high road and not respond to you anymore. You demand respect, yet you arent willing to give it. Since it’s obvious that you’ll never let it go, I wont waste time trying to make nice with you.
Andrew in PA………Romo’s going to do more than win a play-off game this year. He’s going to win a few of them this year. Dallas vs. San Diego in the Super Bowl.
I would think there might be some interest, but the Boras connection and the fact he holds his players out for an extended time sometimes, might lessen the Braves interest.
Looks like the Bronco’s are leading the Horney Toads again! Good, that will make my Boise customers happy! They sure do love their Bronco’s up in Boise!
Macon Braves (RIP)……..didnt I say that “the Braves are putting all their hopes in Troy Glaus because if he gets hurt or is a flop that they will have very little power from the right side of the plate”?
So when I made the reference to “balance”, is it unreasonable for me to assume that you would deduce that I was referring to power? Because the way our line-up is set up (especially if we were to sign Damon) would be from the left side of the plate.
The lack of power from the right side of the plate is something that I have lamented all winter.
.P.a.u.l .L.e.n.t.z-”For years, Peyton was labeled as not being able to win in the play-offs. New England had his number. However he battled through it and won a Super Bowl. Tony Romo has heart. Okay dude, I’m not going to jump on the bandwagon and start slamming you because I don’t check the blogs regularly enough to know what everyone is up in arms about. But you’ve now compared Tony Homo to both Brett Favre and Peyton Manning. I think you need to check your compass, because you have derailed. Romo may indeed get it together and one day qualify to be mentioned in the same breath as some of the greatest NFL qb’s of all time, but he isn’t even close. He hasn’t accomplished anything yet in his career and you only detract from your point by making such comparisons.
Once this weekend is over with, Tony Romo not being able to win in the play-offs will be one less thing that people like be able to say. You’ll have to come up with something new to hate Romo on.
Since when is being a Cowgirl not enough reason to hate a player?
Macon Braves (RIP)……….a healthy Chipper Jones will surely supply some power from the left side of the plate. Also, I was factoring in Damon (remember, I said that I would be concerned with balance if Damon was signed).
Old time wrestling fan here, and I have to say I watched the main event of TNA for the first time, and was pretty impressed. Those 2 wrestlers put on a good main event.
I’ve been pretty lazy. I started filling out an application for an internship yesterday and I came to the realization that I could no longer think. My vocabulary has gone down the crapper and my ability to BS is severely suffering. But it’s been a fun month or so. How’s life in Utah? How is your son doing?
Here’s what Romo has going for him. As the number 3 seed the Cowboys will be playing indoors until the super bowl. So he won’t have cold weather to deal with. The biggest obstacle for Romo is the teams he will be facing just to get to the Super Bowl (Philly, Vikings, Saints).
Salty Dawg………While Romo has yet to win a play-off game….it’s pretty ridiculous for you to say that Romo hasnt accomplished anything. Dude, with intense attention every day, has put up some pretty good numbers over the past 4 years. He’s made 3 Pro Bowls.
Peyton Manning was called a choker until he took the Colts to the Super Bowl. Manning has been a starter in the NFL since 1998. He didnt win his first Super Bowl until 2006. That’s 9 years as a starting QB. The previous 8 years, the Manning was punished by the Patriots in the play-offs.
This is Romo’s 4th year as a starter. You might want to remember that. Romo still has plenty of career left to accomplish what lies ahead of him.
If it’s between Damon and Nady, then I’d prefer Nady if his health checks out. I believe Nady has more power potential and would be better in the outfield. I don’t believe Damon would do as good in Atlanta, esp. at this stage of his career. However, I’d take either of them over Dye, Dye really should at least split time DHing at this point.
That said, I wouldn’t mind seeing us trade for someone like Luke Scott. It just depends on what the O’s are asking for him.
I enjoyed tonight’s one night MNW with WWE/TNA. I enjoyed both shows. TNA brought their A Game and they need to continue to bring it. WWE could’ve done a bit better, but RAW was still good in terms of nostalgia with Bret.
Also on baseball front….
Adrian Beltre is going to sign with Red Sox and Red Sox is trying to work on a trade with Mets involving Lowell/Castillo.
P’cola Brave………the thing people forget is that Tony Romo doesnt have to do it all himself. Dallas’ defense is playing at an extremely high level. The Cowboys are putting constant, intense pressure on the QB. We have pitched back to back shutouts and held the Saints to 17 points (in New Orleans) in the past 3 weeks.
We are a football team who is not solely relying on Tony Romo to win games. Do you really think that Minnesota and New Orleans are both looking forward to having to face Dallas?
Damon is no more of a power hitter than Yunel is. 17 of Damon’s 24 homers last season came in the bandbox that is the new Yankee Stadium. Before last year he had hit more than 18 homers only twice in his career. So you have Glaus as the only right handed power and McCann as the only lefty power hitter in the lineup, maybe McLouth as well if you consider him a power hitter.
This isn’t a power hitting lineup, it is a balanced lineup that will score runs. It scored plenty the last few months last season and the only difference in the lineup will be Glaus instead of Laroche and whatever outfielder you want to fill in instead of Garret Anderson.
Grinch is back, for more than a drive-by. All is right with the world. (Lew, ‘preciate the update; figgered that was him, but…)
Best Christmas decoration seen with the family: Dude had a huge inflatable Grinch pulling down the lights from his neighbor’’s house. You had to see it; it was awesome.
OK, that was actually second-best. First was the next-door neighbor’s house of this huge display. Think award-winning, $10,000, Tim-Tayor-like… Guy’s neighbor had lights arranged to look like an arrow pointing to this house…the arrow below the word “Ditto”…
I personally think its going to be Dallas an Indy in the Super Bowl as long as Dallas continues to play stingy D. I think Romo will continue to play well and will only benefit from playing inside. I don think anyone wants Dallas right now but they have played NO, SD, and Philly so far with Philly, Vikings, and NO in the upcoming weeks. Thats 6 weeks straight against the leagues best opponents. I think Dallas’ offense is fine the D is what needs to hold up.
Lots of snow on the ground here! The kiddo let his brother (from the AF) bribe him into cutting his hair a few days ago. 8 months of growth! He is doing well (if you call a HS Senior coasting to the finish line well).
“He scored more than 100 runs (107) for the 10th time in 12 seasons and struck out fewer than 100 times to continue his streak of never reaching double figures in whiffs in 15 seasons in the majors”
-I’m sure this was just an oversight, but I believe you meant to type never reaching “triple” figures in whiffs…
P’cola Brave……I agree, Dallas’ defense is key to all this. We are a fast defense, plus we are big upfront and can put all kinds of pressure on the QB. That will go a long ways to taking some of the pressure off of Romo.
Also, playing indoors will be a big help to Romo as well. I’m looking forward to Saturday night.
“Dallas wont beat the Vikings ..no way. Vikings match up very well with Dallas”
Nobody is going to beat the Vikings in the Metrodome. NOBODY. Jared Allen will have 3-5 sacks against whoever the QB is in any game in the dome.
thank god unless New Orleans loses, the NFC championship game will not be in Minnesota. And even then the way the Saints played down the stretch, I’m not thoroughly convinced that they’d beat the Vikings at home anymore. Hell, they might not make it past their first playoff game….. which of course would mean the NFC title game would go through Minnesotay.
BravesFanChris25, I think the Bret and McMahon thing was a set up for Wrestlemania. HBK will help train Bret back into shape to fight Vince or something like that. Hey, it’s silly and phony, but it’s still fun.
We are a football team who is not solely relying on Tony Romo to win games. Do you really think that Minnesota and New Orleans are both looking forward to having to face Dallas?
N8…..News flash: Dallas isnt just going to walk into the Metrodome and lay down against the Vikings. Dallas has a very good football team who is peaking at the right time.
Jaglawyer……..why go there with your 11:53pm post? It’s pointless and irrelevant. If you really need to ask that, then I wont even bother having a conversation with you.
“Carolina put a lot of pressure on Farve in week 16.”
Yeah. In Carolina. Not going to happen in Minnesota. Sorry Paul. So sorry to tell you that if any team is going to win in Vikings land, it’s going to be Philly.
The thought of Tony Romo running away from Jared Allen in that dome is actually kind of funny. Brees and McNabb are the only guys capable in the NFC of remotely handling that noise, and fortunately for Brees, if N.O. is still playing that week, HIS dome’s noise will be Brett’s problem. Which I then could understand Favre getting rattled, or forced into some mistakes.
But you’re dreaming if you think the Cowboys are going to rattle Brett Favre in Minnesota. Romo will be wishing Jessica Simpson took him on a vacation after that game.
I think he is going to pass on college for now. Hates school. He is fixated on following his pa and brothers into the military…..as hard as I try to convince him otherwise.
Lentz. Take it from a guy who’s been to a few NFL games in that dome, rooting for opposing teams.
Dallas might be peaking at the right time (not arguing with you there) and yes. They are a very good team. Love their defense.
But sorry dude. They are NOT going to rattle Favre in that Dome. Not going to happen. Not saying he won’t force some throws that get tipped, and maybe returned for big defensive plays.
But if you honestly think that Favre is going to get rattled there, and Romo will handle it, then you just might be as big of a moron as many on here try and make you out to be.
I saw Joe Montana get rattled against a not very good Vikings team in that dome.
I find the overused proverbial “We” when fans discuss “their” team very annoying, especially when someone is on one team site talking about another team in another sport.
Carry on about the Cowboys . . . maybe Cowboys.com will have some insight on the Braves LF options . . .

There is mutual interest for keeping Pujols a Card for life. I highly doubt he’ll be a Yankee, and especially doubt he’ll be a Brave.

This isn’t a power lineup up to begin with

I think he is going to pass on college for now. Hates school. He is fixated on following his pa and brothers into the military…..as hard as I try to convince him otherwise.
You young folks have a mind of your own……

I just love all these options:
Johnny Damon, 36 or Jermaine Dye, 36-to be
I hear Minnie Minoso is looking into a comeback.

Tony Romo doesn’t stand a chance man.

I find the overused proverbial “We” when fans discuss “their” team very annoying, especially when someone is on one team site talking about another team in another sport.
Carry on about the Cowboys . . . maybe Cowboys.com will have some insight on the Braves LF options . . .
