Macon Braves (RIP)
Yeah, i know what you’re talking about. I drive past there in the mornings when I’m headed to the Warner Robins Campus. I think they might have taken the Telegraph sign down a while back and its a furniture store or something over there now.
Gotta feel bad for Texas. Terrible play call there at the end of the half.
Tom Waits wears Redwing boots
There were 12 other teams that had to face this Bama defense in 2009. If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen. I do hate to see him out because Texas can use it as an excuse. Hey, its part of the game, I don’t think Bama misses McElroy nearly as much if he’s knocked out. My point being, Bama has the more well rounded team.
I think you have to give Bama all the credit. The defense got to the quarterback and knocked him out of the game. The injury wasn’t an accident.
January 7th, 201010:16 pm
Plus, last I checked, McCoy doesn’t play defense.
Tom Waits – I’m not saying that Bama doesn’t deserve to win. They’ve proved before tonight that they’re a great team. There’s just at least going to be a little bit of a question mark when you ask “What if” about McCoy.
Of course, that goes along with the annual question mark the BCS provides anyway. Sorry, Boise…
January 7th, 201010:17 pm
The injury was an accident but that is the toughness of the SEC. I think what you meant to say is that it was not Bama’s fault he got hurt.
January 7th, 201010:18 pm
Heath…….did you even see the play that McCoy got hurt on? He wasnt sacked. It was a designed running play that the quarterback kept and turned upfield. He was tackled from the side on what appeared to be a normal hit. For whatever reason, he hit him just right and injured his shoulder.
So I’m not sure what you meant by “getting to the quarterback”, other than Bama tackling him on a running play that netted Texas positive yardage.
Doesn’t matter when you’re throwing interceptions and giving Bama great field position (and a defensive TD)
McElroy did take a pretty good open field shot before the 17th points.
January 7th, 201010:19 pm
Heath: “the injury wasn’t an accident”
What? How exactly is that type of injury not an accident?
January 7th, 201010:20 pm
He was tackled from the side on what appeared to be a normal hit.
It didn’t even look that bad. Easy for me to say while on my couch, but still
January 7th, 201010:21 pm
I saw the play. Defensive player planted his helmet into McCoy’s arm. Did the defensive player accidently end up in the right place at the right time?
January 7th, 201010:22 pm
jeffrey d………Take Ingram out of the game and lets see how well Bama moves the ball. Richardson is able to get his yards because when he comes in to give Ingram a breather…….Ingram has already worn down the Texas defense.
Look at what happened to the Falcons when they lost Matt Ryan for a couple of games. The Eagles came into the Georgia Dome and beat the shyt out of Chris Redman. Do you think that Philly beats up on the Falcons if Ryan was in there?
You see, that’s what I’m talking about. What if Mccoy plays the entire game? What if Francouer returned to 2005 form or Soriano didn’t miss an entire season or Gonzalez for that matter or what if Chipper didn’t have an off year last year or if McCann didn’t need lasik surgery? There is no crying in Baseball and especially Football.
I officialy hate the Gatorade commercial!!!!!! and I wish corso could learn how to say McElroy!!!
Again, I hope I’m not implying that I’m taking anything away from Bama. I think they’d be winning even with McCoy in.
Cute outfitst by the band….
January 7th, 201010:23 pm
Even with McCoy, Bama is a better, more complete team. Would have won regardless.
January 7th, 201010:24 pm
jeffrey d……….that is why I said “appeared” to be a normal hit. “Appeared” because I wasnt there getting hit.
It's all about me, Paul Dense
I have an opinion about everything, just ask me…
January 7th, 201010:26 pm
Nothing gets me more pumped for football than Dave Matthews
what do you want to get educated on, come on, just ask me…
Heath……it was just a normal tackle. I’ve seen QBs get hit far worse than that and not get hurt.
Some injuries are freak accidents. I’ve seen players tear their ACLs on what appear to be a normal plant when running the ball without getting hit.
The hit on McCoy wasnt anywhere close to being an ESPN highlight hit, other than the fact that it knocked McCoy out of the game. While the result was a great one for Alabama, the hit itself was nothing special.
January 7th, 201010:27 pm
I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a “bone bruise”….The Bama guy hit him at full speed with his helmet right on his upper arm/shoulder.
January 7th, 201010:30 pm
No more Colt. Out.
Heath, you’re trying awfully hard to convince everyone that Colt McCoy being out of the game isn’t a huge deal. Sorry, man, but it is.
Doesn’t mean ‘Bama isn’t a deserving national champion; of course they are. And most people will soon forget there was any mitigating factor about this game. It won’t stain Alabama’s title at all. And shouldn’t.
But it is what it is. And right now, I bet you most ‘Bama fans would’ve preferred to see their team beat Texas at full strength. Because the Tide’s good enough to beat them at full strength. But we didn’t get to find out.
That’s all I think anyone here is saying. Colt is a very good quarterback, the last guy that Texas could afford to lose. And he barely played at all.
You’re kidding yourself if you don’t think it’s made a big difference in the game.
Macon Braves (RIP)
It’s all about me—Come on man, get real….you ain’t gotta ask for one to get one….or a hundred!
Eric from MO
January 7th, 201010:32 pm
Heath come on seriously. You are telling me that the player was running at full speed and thought the whole time I am going to hit his arm with my helmet? Get real.
Also they are not a more “well-rounded team.” That would be like saying the Ravens are a more well rounded team because they would not miss Falco as much as the Colts would miss Manning. Which would mean the Ravens are better. Get real. So you dont like the Big 12. Im fine with that, but dont try to use this game to help your arguement.
I just dont like the play calling. Down 18 points and playing conservative. Let the kid try and sling it. Allowing him to only pass on 3rd down allows Bama to try and tee off on him.
Well, at least they just threw it on that 1st down.
Jeffrey DHell Yea! I bring my lap-top the managers are cool to me because I look like Tiger Woods… but its all good up inhere
January 7th, 201010:34 pm
Didnt Falco play for the Washington Sentinels?
Heath I dont think everyone is disputing that there was a good chance that Bama would of won the game regardless. I put money on Bama and Im a Big 12 guy. However, I also turned it off when Colt got hurt. Game was over at that point.
January 7th, 201010:35 pm
Man, Goodwin is fast.
January 7th, 201010:36 pm
Intelligent – words used to describe an Alabama Linebacker (McClain) and his coach Kirby Smart.
I don’t think I heard that word associated with the UGA defense all year and I’m a Dawg Fan.
Not saying that Colt being out is not a big deal… Sorry if it came out that way. I was arguing that you can’t totally penalize the Bama team. Colt’s injury was a direct result of a hard hit by the Bama team. Isn’t that what a defense is supposed to do? I’d say that not only is it their job, but they performed exceptionally well in making sure that Colt McCoy doesn’t “hurt” them tonight (pun, I know).
January 7th, 201010:37 pm
Eric from MO……….well said at 10:32pm. However Heath just aint hearing it tonight.
Look at Dallas last year. The first part of the season in 2008, we are rolling. Romo throwing the ball, the running game is pounding the defense behind Barber. Then Romo gets hurt and Brad Johnson is our QB for 3 games. We barely scored 10 points a game during that stretch.
Colt McCoy is a multi Heisman Trophy finalist. Anyone with any objectivity can see the impact that losing McCoy has had on this game.
LOL Yes Brandon he did. Sorry meant Flacco. Cant believe I typed that.
Steve from OH
January 7th, 201010:38 pm
I’ve seen players tear their ACLs on what appear to be a normal plant when running the ball without getting hit.
That’s actually a pretty common (or at least, well-explained) way of tearing the ACL.
January 7th, 201010:39 pm
I think everybody understood who you were talking about
You make a valid point, too (10:32)
January 7th, 201010:40 pm
Bacon RIP, come on dude, if you don’t have a question, don’t waste my time…
January 7th, 201010:41 pm
Heath……….no one is suggesting that Bama should be penalized for the hit on McCoy. Nor is anyone saying that it wasnt a good hit.
However, what people are saying is that the hit itself didnt appear to be anything that out of the ordinary. It wasnt “designed” to take McCoy out of the game. It was designed to tackle him. Him getting knocked out of the game was the result of one of those “freak” injuries where physics played a part in the hit being an injury.
January 7th, 201010:42 pm
I think it stinks that McCoy is out, but I really think it stinks that they don’t show the people running on the field during the game. When I was a kid, they’d keep the camera on the interloper and it was fun to watch.
Texas is a lot worse without McCoy.
January 7th, 201010:43 pm
They finally got rid of those 3 same pictures (UGA in Black helmets, the Chick Fil A logo, and a Tech player) on the top of the AJC Sports page. We’ve been looking at those for weeks
January 7th, 201010:45 pm
Steve from OH………My point with the ACL example was that some injuries are freak incidents. I’ve seen QBs get absolutely crushed and driven into the ground……yet come up like nothing happened. Those hits (especially those on blind side blitzes where the defender has an unblocked path the the QB) are designed to put a hurting on the QB.
I wouldnt call the hit on McCoy designed to knock him out of the game.
DOB, I’m glad you’re here. You said something earlier that really humbled me: “Hawk was one of the classiest guys…..”
I feel the same way about you, too, buddy. Now I know this is probably the worst time to correct your spelling, but for the future, you left out my beginning “O” and ending “e”.
I am completely off my game tonight I guess. I am just not getting my point across. Just think people may devalue the win tonight win they shouldn’t. So, since I really don’t give a hoot about either team anyway, just gonna let it go. Sorry to all.

*when they shouldn’t.
See….off my game, just like I said.
The Texas receiver are not exactly help Gilbert out. They need to start making some plays to give the kid a chance.
January 7th, 201010:48 pm
The hit on McCoy was nothing at all compared to the Texas Center chop blocking the Alabama DT who was already being blocked by a Texas guard.
Your gut more iron-clad than mine. I could not take that much coffee after too many years of being in office at 6 AM. Diet Coke seems to go down better. Same caffeine buzz but not gut cramps.
Hit on McCoy was hard and huge.
Going to bed.
January 7th, 201010:49 pm
Tom O – I never got to say hello since someone was hogging the computer…for the record, I would go for good garlic mashed potatoes over the garlic fries – my mouth will be recovering for hours…
January 7th, 201010:50 pm
Heath – we still appreciate your efforts
January 7th, 201010:51 pm
Heath……..to be honest, I felt that Alabama was going to win tonight. Alabama impressed me with how easily they beat Florida. I was not impressed with Texas’ victory over Nebraska.
I dont feel that Alabama winning tonight will be tarnished. However, there is no doubt that they would have had to work harder tonight and be more creative on both offense and defense if McCoy was in the game. This is simply not an entertaining game (unless you are an Alabama fan).
So how is the game going? I’m not a huge football fan and thus not watching the game. However, I grew up hearing my father talk about Bear Bryant and thus having some sentiment for Alabama. Just curious.
January 7th, 201010:52 pm
“Hard and huge”, come on Dude.
If I wanted to point out your whole post, I would’ve. I was just passing along info that I thought was interesting. I realize you have an obsession to be correct all the time, but c’mon, dude. Don’t make an argument out of nothing.
January 7th, 201010:56 pm
Heath your comments are terrible. If Mccoy played Texas would be in it. I was going for Bama myself but I wanted to see who was the better team and without your starting quaterback all bets off. Oh Colt Mccoy might not play defense but what about that pick six and pretty much no offense, yea that woulden’t be if Colt was in there. All that im saying is, well your an idiot and you don’t know sports.
and I wish corso could learn how to say McElroy!!!
Man… Corso had a stroke back in April. He’s doing good to say anything. He had to relearn almost everything. I think he’s doing pretty dang good.
Steve from OH………I wasnt making an argument. I realize that you was agreeing with me.
I was just elaborating on the freak injury thing. My intention wasnt to disagree with you.
January 7th, 201011:00 pm
I know Gilbert is way in over his head, but can one of his veteran wide receivers catch a pass? Just once?
January 7th, 201011:01 pm
Heath………With 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, Alabama is 0 for 7 on 3rd downs and only have 35 yards passing while being sacked 5 times. Yet they are up 24-6.
That in itself should tell you the impact that not having McCoy in the game is having on Texas. If Texas is down that much despite those stats……what does that tell you?
January 7th, 201011:03 pm
“…for the record, I would go for good garlic mashed potatoes over the garlic fries”
Jim, if you make that with chopped onions, then we are really on the same page.
BTW, when you get a chance, I have to talk to you about a personal matter. (I haven’t been able to get a date, lately????)
Wow Brandon. Even without the pick 6…the running backs of Alabama have 2 rushing TDs tonight. Texas was supposed to have a good rush defense (I think it is over-rated because of the league in which they play) and that this was going to be the difference in the game anyway. That is why I said that Colt doesn’t play defense. However, since I so clearly apologized for not getting my point accross correctly already and said that I am going to drop it…this will be my only response to you on the matter…and maybe for anything with that attitude.
Am I the only one that wishes they’d keep the camera on the people who run onto the field?
January 7th, 201011:04 pm
Just terrible play calling.
It’s been a while, friend. Hope all is well with you.
January 7th, 201011:07 pm
Moe Berg – Texas’ star quarterback was hurt early and is out for the game. Since then, Alabama has absolutely dominated.
…although Texas just scored. It’s 24-13 now
That dumb call at the end of the first half is looking huge right now. It would be a 4 point game instead of an 11 point game.
Still, this game isnt over. Alabama needs to start moving the ball if they want to cement this game.
Nice pass by the 18 y.o. He’ll end up being a stud QB for Texas.
Crazier things have happened…..Nice pass protection and a good throw from the young QB.
January 7th, 201011:08 pm
Did anybody here that big crash?
It must have been the vinegar and water truck colliding. Never mind.
jeffrey d–Thanks, for the update.
Onside kick…way to go Mack Brown. Pretty ballsy there
Whoa. It actually worked.
January 7th, 201011:09 pm
Andrew in PA
lol that kick was amazing
Four hours later and Dentz still thinks I’m arguing with him about the numbers?
By very definition….. Dense.
OMG…………..this aint over with yet. Hell of a kick off the blocker up front. Kind of like at the end of the “Waterboy” with Adam Sandler where the black kicker says “Who’s my bytch” when trying to see who he is going to try and kick the ball off of.
SEC Reigns Again!!! Whoop Whoop!!!

January 7th, 201011:10 pm
I think if McCoy wants tpop play then it should be his decision. He understands he would be risking his health, but it should be his choice
Tom Waits -
You probably could find a pic or a video clip online.
January 7th, 201011:11 pm
What was the official looking at, or thinking? That was crazy. Two obvious pass-interference calls missed in a span of three plays, by the same official.
4 hours later and N8 still trying to say that he was only wrong by 1 game (even though he accused me of being wrong by 1 game in the first place).
January 7th, 201011:12 pm
I was gonna say that these Big East Officials are terrible, but I see that DOB has already covered that.
January 7th, 201011:13 pm
If you had to guess, what hat will Dawson wear in the HOF? Cubs or Expos?
N8, it’s like arguing with a very dumb stop sign. Don’t do it. You’ll get nowhere.
P.S.–how do you feel about Charvel guitars?
Ken (future HOF...) Griffey, Jr.
January 7th, 201011:14 pm
BEFORE my 20th birthday…455 AB’s…16 HR…61 RBI…and a .264 BA, also ROY…
Jason Heyward just might be the next Ken Griffey, JR.
I have seen him play…dude is ready to take my spot in the limelight…
As a Penn State fan, the only interest I have in this game is because I like RHR (like, nolie, not love ….. relax). So my question is, where the hell is she?
“The T-Hawkin doesn’t do petty arguments.” Tomahawkin
Nah. Instead, you just use the words AW in the word offense, 623 times a day. No pettines there at all, huh? Wow.
January 7th, 201011:15 pm
I gotta say (disclaimer: I’m not following the game with full attention) that if McCoy’s scans are clean and they think it’s just a sprain or whatever, he needs to get in there. No reason to hold him out unless I missed something…
I will have the last word, oh yes, I will..
Would a 10×13 manila envelope with just a couple sheets of paper in it need more than 1 “Forever” stamp?
Joe Willie (I need another drink after that Texas TD...) Namath...
January 7th, 201011:16 pm
It is a lock…TIDE will win by…enough!!!
RUN THE DAMN BALL…
I guarantee it!!!
T-hawkin: Judging from the timing of your “whoop whoop,” I’d guess you were watching the game on, like, a 4-minute delay.
Kinda Tired of it all
January 7th, 201011:18 pm
4 hours later and you are both still being azs wholes
Probably not but I would put 2 just to be on the safe side.
Steve from OH………How come when I’m wrong about something, it’s perfectly ok for it to be pointed out (no matter how small or minor it may be)? However, when someone else is wrong, then I’m in the wrong for pointing it out?
I have refrained from name calling lately. I’ve been engaging in civil discussions. However some on here feel that if someone has the never to even hint of challenging them on their position on something…..that all hell should break lose.
Well, I’m not going anywhere nor am I going to change.
January 7th, 201011:19 pm
I was going to, but I have 4 envelopes and 7 stamps….
That back judge official, who seems to be missing all those calls…is a Kansas grad…
