I have to say, Bengals v. Jats is a quandry on surface, but I like what NY defense did last week and the NY offensive line dominated. Can they do this again with Tank on a bad toe? Anybody?
Thanks!!! What does the tiger stand for. My son actually goes to Auburn but we are from the Newnan area, where his girl friend lives. Having a big BCS party here in Austin tonight where 99% will be pulling for Texas. I think I will pull for Alabama it just seems more like home. Its so cold we would normally have steaks and beer but tonight hot soup a Kaluha in our coffee.
Andre Dawson batted 1 for 9 in his last 9 years to break an 0 for 9 slump.
I guess the 2009 season really helped him get into the hall.
I think it was his swing. I never saw it better than since 2008.
To the guys saying we are a 75 Win team AT BEST or a 4th or 5th place team you are absolutely absurd
The only downgrade from last season is Javy Vazquez turns into Tim Hudson (which is not that big of a downgrade) and in fact if they navigate to their career norms (which is much more likely than Vaz having another career best season) then it is actually an upgrade, maybe not an upgrade over what we got from Vaz last season but an upgrade over what we would’ve likely gotten outta Vaz this season.
So Wren gets his payroll cut and still puts a better product on the field.
McLouth>>McLouth/Schafer
Prado>>Prado/Johnson
Chipper = Chipper (although I see him having a better season than last)
Glaus > LaRoche/Kothcman
McCann = McCann (Once again we will now get him for an entire season and he can see)
Escobar = Escobar
Heyward >>> Francoeur/Church
Melky/Diaz>>>Anderson
so in 5/8 positions we got better and 2 others are likely to have better seasons than last (based on their career norms) So 7/8 positions are likely to be upgraded.
On to the Bench
Ross = Ross
Infante = Infante (but this season he won’t have a broken hand)
Melky/Diaz > Anderson/Diaz
Hinske >>>>>>>>>>>> Norton
Now the bullpen
Wagner = Gonzalez
Saito > Bennett
Moylan = Moylan
Medlen = Medlen (although i see a better year due to experience)
Proctor >>> Acosta
EOF = EOF
So overall we had a slight downgrade in 2 positions but upgraded 9 (possibly 13 when you include Chipper returning, McCann and Infante not being injured, and Medlen’s growth) At at least remained even in all the rest.
Yet you then say we are a 4th place team??? Ok either you think 4 teams in our division are going to win 90+ games or you think we are 17-20 games worse than we were last season (which is almost just as ridiculous).
“Is it snowing where any of you Braves fans are?”mitchie
Finally stopped snowing last night. Drifting like a mutha today. Currently -11 degrees (that’s the high for the day), and we had 30-40 mph winds with that overnight and this morning.
Typical ND January. My 11 year old was pissed when I picked the kids up from school because he didn’t want to wear his hat and gloves and his jacket was unzipped. Amazing what your body adjusts to. I shoveled and dug out the snow-blower this morning when it was windy and it sucked. When I went out at 3:00 and there wasn’t much wind, I thought to myself. It’s actually kind of nice out now… I’ll remind you that it’s -11 out.
Jets vs Bengals.
Whoever wins is going to end up losing the next week anyway. I’m expecting the Jets to beat Cincy this week in a turnover prone game. Then next week, Jets will give up about 5 turnovers to whoever beats them. Then in a few weeks, everybody will forget that each team even made the playoffs. Steelers should have been “placed” into the playoffs in exchange for one of these teams after the performance Roethlisberger had the last few weeks.
Raised all of our kids on mt. dew,all are grown with georgus pearley dentures.
Had a rusted transmission housing bolt on my ford tractor no matter what I tried would not budge,last night rapped it in a rag soked with diet coke (better than regular coke,more acid) this morning was loose enough a 12 yr old could have turned it.
Great stuff………
DOB, yeah..after I typed that I figured that might be your answer. Hey, I switch back and forth from coffee to lo carb monsters and red bull. Long story.
Boras is a vulture, sorry DOB. I guess big business requires plenty of vultures. DOB – I go ahead and make 12 cups with 3 and 1/2 scoops of whatever was on sale last week @ Kroger – MHouse or Folger. Kind of like the Braves. We got a Maxwell House team for 2010. Good enough against the competition to get the job done. Go Braves! I love you guys man.
Jim: Thanks, man. As I said, I don’t drink regular soft drinks, haven’t for some time. Just drink the diet ones, and usually not more than one in a day (and that’s mostly during baseball season, in pressboxes or other places I can’t get coffee). That’s about it. I can’t stomach regular Coke, Dr. Peper, Dew, whatever — all taste like syrup to me as I’ve gotten older. And I don’t put anything in my coffee — no cream, no sugar, no sweetener, no nothing. Just black, and good, strong coffee whenever I can get it, and always at home. Whole bean from a coffee place near my house that’s got varieties from around the world. I try them all.
Now that I’ve taken that conversation to its illogical extreme….
(For some of you, sorry to repeat all that, but there musta been some confusion if Jim or anyone else thought I was slugging down regular Cokes. I’m a black-coffee drinker, that and grapefruit juice, and occasional diet soft drinks. And sweet tea in restaurants where they have it. Basically only in the South.)
Auburn is Auburn and is next to Opelika, Al. Larry Munson (famous broadcaster for the Univ of Ga) used to place the setting for Ga/Auburn games in Opelika. Opelika is actually 5-10 kilos from Auburn.

Not that you care, but I’ll wax nostalgic. In 1980 I was a freshman @ UGA. We were 8-0 and headed to a possible National Championship. We had to play on the “Plains in Opelika” as the famed Munson would put it. This of course being Auburn. They were good, but we were better that day in the overcast and drizzle in southeast Alabama. Hey Horns! Hey Horns! Hey Horns! We’re gonna beat the hell out of you! Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer, Give ‘em hell Alabama! Roll Tide Roll! Bama by 17! 13th national championship ring!
And by the way, isn’t Diet Mt. Dew just about addictive? I don’t buy it much, just because I drink it too much when i have it. That and Diet Dr. Pepper. And Diet Barq’s DOB
same stuff I drink, and yes MT Dew is addictive . I think it also has the most caffeine of any regular soft drink, which may be why. Love Barqs diet too. It is no longer available in my area in the 2 liter bottles though. I can only get it in the cans now, which I like a lot less.
If Heyward starts the year in RF, where do you see Cox placing him in the lineup. I think it would be a huge mistake too hit him 8th. He would not get great pitches to hit. Where are you inclined to bat him
Tom–it wasn’t so much that I dislike ‘Bama (I don’t care one way or the other who wins tonight), it was just that I saw a grown man post something I’d envision a cheerleader say…
I’m at the Spot bar and Grill rite now and it’s Time To get Tuned up! especially since T-Hawkin is off tomorrow, I’m gonna bump some old Tracey Lee “The Theme-It’s Party Time!”
As for the game…
Texas will get overmatched once they go against that cold SEC defense “Bank on it!”, it happens every year in the Bowl championship games
Looks like we got a good deal on Hinske those incentives probably only kick in if he gets extensive playing time so it looks like FW still has some cash to play with even if he says he doesn’t
It will be a repeat of the past 4 National Championship games. Alabama defensive line will dismantle the “burnt orange” offensive line. That’s the game. Alabama DL v. Texas OL.
Steve from OH – that’s a fine cheer, my man, though it goes better with a very tan colored bourbon and coke in your hand and 95,000 or so of your closest friends.
I am resigned to the fact that this is the team that we are going to ST with. Still not completely happy with the offseason, but let’s rock-n-roll.
I am excited to go to the Dark Start and see Heyward this spring. Personally, without getting another bat, I think a lot of this year’s success depends on him. I just don’t think that Melky and Diaz at the corners are going to cut it.
Rob in pain: Possible, but Heyward would really have to have a huge spring for Cox to bat him that high (second) to begin the season. I think he’ll have him lower coming out of camp. But we’ll see. Schafer led off, after all.
But Heyward third? No. Certainly not right away. That’s Chipper’s spot.
BBQ sauce, ketchup, jalapeno ketchup (hard to find these days), spicy mustard, honey mustard, salsa. And pepper, red pepper and garlic. And constant black coffee?
Stinky breath much?
Now I know what tim had a problem with.
Who cares if Heyward starts at Gwinnett. We have McClouth, Diaz, Cabrera. There is productive Major League experience in the outfield, with Infante as a backup. We started last year with Frenchy, Shafer and Anderson. Get real people, the 2010 OF is better than the 2009 OF. Relax, let things take shape. We are not doomed if Heyward is in Gwinnett.

Rob (6:42), but surely you know Cox well enough to believe that he won’t assume Chipper will hit like he did last year, and won’t drop him in the batting order coming out of spring training regardless of what he does in Grapefruit League games.
I respect that you think the “burnt orange” offensive line will hold up against the “crimson” defensive line. However, after watching what the “black shirts” defensive line did to Texas in the conference championship game, I rather doubt it.

It will be a repeat of the past 4 National Championship games. Alabama defensive line will dismantle the “burnt orange” offensive line. That’s the game. Alabama DL v. Texas OL.

Where’s Adam Dunn?…(:

If Heyward made the squad after S training, I’d Bat him second, therefore he get more pitches to hit in front of Chipper
Plan B would be to bat him 6th or 7th
If Chipper struggles early he needs to get out of the 3 hole, he killed us there last year
