What is for dinner…
What are we going to listen to…
While we watch the movie of your choice…
Cornell…did Kansas forget to show up tonight?
January 6th, 20109:52 pm
If you get a dog you should get a pound puppy- mine is a wonderful, loving pet and it always makes me smile thinking that I rescued her from an unknown future
Thought about it. Have you done it? Is it rewarding? I don’t know of I could say goodbye to a dog after a few months though.
jeffrey d……….I was away from my computer for most of the day. I’m catching up on what I missed from last night til now.
No problem. I don’t think I said anthing stupid today. Although I could be wrong.
Seriously, the GMAC Bowl? I just can’t enough football. Thanks for scheduling Central Michigan and Troy for today. I thougt bowls were generally supposed to increase with importance. This is like eating bolagna before the Christmas turkey.
They sound like good-looking dogs. I like GR and German Shepherds a lot. Now, if I had something with German Shepherd in it, I’d name it Major Hochstetter, no questions asked…
JJ4NLCY No. Those commercials are annoying.
Haha! That sounds like a guy!
…But I totally know what you mean…
This video is much worse. It’s about how Animal Shelters kill dogs.
Lordy! Yeah, I ain’t watchin’ that!
You’ve never read Shiloh??
No. I don’t really like to read…like, at all. I like to write (to an extent…), but reading…
Not counting school-reading, I’ve prob’ly finished around 10 chapter books my whole life. Not bragging by any means, just sayin’…I’ve started plenty of books…read one twice that I know of…
January 6th, 20109:53 pm
cab – how do your dog and VJ’s pup get along?
Cornell 58-56 over #1 Kansas with 6:14 left in the 2nd half.
ESPN2 giving a live look-in on the Cornell-KU game.
January 6th, 20109:54 pm
Easiest way is flicker or photobucket – sign up for an account, upload pic (takes like .7 seconds) and copy and paste the “Direct Link” on here.
January 6th, 20109:55 pm
They have yet to meet
January 6th, 20109:57 pm
McFann – You’re thinking about getting a dog? Don’t know i you’d beinterested, but I actually might have to get rid of mine (long story, but not because she’s a bad dog). She’s 1.5 years old, some kind of retriever mix (got her from the pound so we’re not sure of her exact breed), is fixed, has her shots, is fully trained, etc.
No. I don’t really like to read…like, at all. I like to write (to an extent…), but reading…
So, do you proofread your writing? Because if it helps you could pretend you wrote Shiloh. And you’d have a “Newberry Medal.”
bravesgirl it can be tough…I only spent 4 hours with the border collie saturday and it was tough to say goodbye…but knowing letting him go will allow me to help many more animals gets me through it
Shanks a lot
The braves will trade for Adam Dunn before the trading deadline- mere eight months from now.
You amazed me the other day when you said you had never seen the “Three Stooges”. I loved them when I was young and can still laugh uncontrollably at scenes I have seen several times.
Here is a short clip starring “Curly”. He was my favorite and almost everyone elses too.
January 6th, 20109:58 pm
KU takes the lead…..61-60.
jeffrey d………I know the feeling. I pretty much watch sports 24/7. I do have some tv shows that I DVR as well as some History Channel stuff. However, football is king.
I have a friend of mine over who doesnt have cable tv (his wife doesnt want t.v. negatively influencing their children) who enjoys watching pretty much any college game.
And you guys give me flack over dogging the marriage thing? Lol.
January 6th, 20109:59 pm
Adorable dog, jeffrey! Name?
Kansas just took a 61-60 lead over Corned Beef Hash with 2:38 left in the game.
January 6th, 201010:01 pm
Paul – well there was a bit of sarcasm over the GMAC Bowl, but I generally agree. Well, except about the dogging marriage.
January 6th, 201010:02 pm
I have a friend of mine over who doesnt have cable tv (his wife doesnt want t.v. negatively influencing their children) who enjoys watching pretty much any college game
Cable? Hell, I don’t even have digital converter. Why pay money to watch TV when you could buy a $6 HDMI cable to watch shows from your laptop to a TV
January 6th, 201010:03 pm
I’m beginning to think everyone on this blog is an alcoholic…
January 6th, 201010:04 pm
One thing I don’t get….If ESPN can show a live look-in…why not put the finish of that game on for a while instead of Duke-Iowa State?
January 6th, 201010:06 pm
Is Bailey a kind of alcohol?
six months and twenty five days- call it seven months
64-63 Cornell…less than a minute to go. KU ball.
Thanks Jurrjens4. trying to find the “direct link” on photobucket.
January 6th, 201010:08 pm
17% of it is. Bailey’s smooooth Irish Cream.
Kind of a B.S. foul call on that play….KU will take it though.
please wren please im begging you sign sheffield and gomes them 2 would cost to much u know you have that much in your budget if not atleast trade for either dunn or uggla
would love to have gomes and sheffield what yall think
The Artist Formerly Known as Too Hot For Teacher
We aren’t alcoholics. Alcoholics go to meetings and want to stop drinking…
DOB – I enjoy reading about the music, etc….Every other blog that talks about music out there swoons over non musicians like Lady Gaga or whoever.
To pick up the conversation from earlier – Huey Lewis and the News is a great band with a great band name
January 6th, 201010:09 pm
bailey’s irish creme
January 6th, 201010:10 pm
Hey, my friend has a dog named Bailey.
them 2 wouldnt cost to much sorry meaning sheffield and gomes
January 6th, 201010:12 pm
Move your mouse over the picture (when looking at the album) and a drop will appear, the third one is direct link.
right click the picture and select “copy image location”
It’s been my experience as a bartender that only *itches and annoying douches drink baileys.
January 6th, 201010:15 pm
Okay, for some reason, I can’t get it to actually display as a link. So, lets try it anyway:
If you’re thinking “wait a minute- I drink Baileys…” – you’re probably a douche
If you can get to that one, you can see a couple of each of my precious mutts.
How funny. ESPN360 froze up for me. Can’t watch the ending.
January 6th, 201010:16 pm
Ignore my doofiness about posting links. It’s late and I really should get to bed.
Looks like KU will survive. Might actually be the best team they’ve faced all year.
like I said on here yesterday and DOB told me I was wrong, according to this we still have $$ to spend
Mark Bowman says that Braves’ team president John Schuerholz indicated the team’s payroll “won’t be diminished at all.” Bowman’s rough estimate has the team’s 2010 payroll at about $87MM after they spent roughly $95MM in 2009.
January 6th, 201010:17 pm
Jurrjens4NLCY………..I have Direct TV. The NFL Ticket isnt available on cable or the internet (as far as I know).
January 6th, 201010:18 pm
I met this girl once
Her: Hey, my name is Bailey
Me: Oh, that’s my dog’s name
Not the smartest thing to do – tell a girl she shares a name with your dog. Noted.
Kansas dodged the upset bullet. Corned Beef Hash valiantly went down in defeat 71-66.
January 6th, 201010:19 pm
Whenever I do my “baby talk” to my beagle “Franklin…”
It sounds like “Frank Wren” which is a plus.

You said the braves seem close to the budget so my question is why is there such a difference in your calculations to his? If he is right might the braves get damon and trade melky?
January 6th, 201010:20 pm
just kidding – the difference is the insurance $$ for Hudson. However, they still should trade Melky and try and upgrade a corner OF position. They would probably save more $$ in the long term by keeping Heyward from potentially becoming a super 2
January 6th, 201010:21 pm
BTW, Brandy’s nickname is The Brandit. She’s not quite as bad as she used to be, but she was a serious thief when she was younger. She’s almost 4 now, so is maturing some.
January 6th, 201010:22 pm
That game was almost as exciting as Delaware, with a 7 point lead with 30 seconds left in OT, losing to William and Mary by a point on a 3-point buzzer beater. And, my alternate team is doing very well against Iowa State…
We can’t see the rest of your album
January 6th, 201010:23 pm
The Braves got insurance money for Huddy last year. They don’t this year. That’s why payroll appears to be less.
Sorry I left for a lil bit, I started cooking my Triple Meat French Dips, while bumping some old Color Me Badd and Seal
But B-Macc has gotten better at throwing out basestealers. It’s just his percentage is down because our pitchers do not hold runners on well, I credit that to McDowell in that he doesn’t teach his pitchers that art of the games and what difference that makes
January 6th, 201010:24 pm
Okay, so here’s one of Brandy:
And, my alternate team is doing very well against Iowa State…
Ugh, VJ. Boooooo.
January 6th, 201010:25 pm
Also the braves got cash in the deal for LaRoche last year
January 6th, 201010:26 pm
That’s it for me tonight, fellow Braves fans. Catch ya’ll tomorrow. Good night!

braves will trade for uggla
OK…I just lost my post. So now I have to rewrite the DANG thing, and I don’t even remember what I said…and I’m s’posed to be going up to bed…now I’m REALLY agitated…
I love the picture! Too cute…Wish I had time to go over the rest of this page, but I got people waitin’ on me! Gotta finish this post and split–I’ll pick up where I left off tomorrow for sure!
I think I would go “pound-puppy”–I would totally want a young dog. And yeah, rescuing it from that “unknown future” would be a very god feeling.
Oh my gosh…that dog is adorable! If I could, I would take it…believe me!
I just never cease to amaze, do I?
Funny stuff, though…
JJ4NLCY if it helps you could pretend you wrote Shiloh. And you’d have a “Newberry Medal.”
It’s funny, because I like things that are written well–I like sentence structure, good grammar and punctuation, good descriptive words, and all that…but I just can’t stay to focussed on something for too long, I guess. Don’t like just sitting there reading…I like to be doing something.
Though certain types of books I like to hear read aloud.
January 6th, 201010:27 pm
Youtube recommended this to me:
Baily Beagle “Plays Dead” On National TV
That’s a pretty pup you got there.
Good night guys!
January 6th, 201010:28 pm
*pictures. They’re both adorable!
January 6th, 201010:29 pm
The NFL Ticket is available on the internet. I watched almost all the games on my computer simulcast this season (when I wasn’t at a Jaguar game)

It’s a children book for the love of god! Go to your local library and get it – Dick Cheney commands you!
January 6th, 201010:31 pm
Soph – sorry – I had a close association with a Duke student many years ago – got to meet Dawkins and Amaker – used to run into Bilas in the local mall… (strangely enough, once ran into Mike Patrick, his broadcasting partner tonight, in Tyson’s Corner Mall in NOVA)…
Jaglawyer……….Is the NFL Ticket available for free on the internet? I would much rather watch it on my big HD TV…….then watch it on my laptop.
January 6th, 201010:34 pm
No, the ticket is not for free. But, as part of the package, you can access it on the internet, your phone, etc . . . I watched games on my phone while attending Jaguar games . . .
Believe me, I got it on the Plasma with other games on the computer!

January 6th, 201010:35 pm
What does any of that have to do with ribs and random rock?
The only thing I want to know about the Eric Hinskie ordeal is where he gets his LPs. And hopefully its somewhere that I no one has ever heard of. Because thats fascinating.
January 6th, 201010:36 pm
anyone know the contract details on Hinske?
January 6th, 201010:38 pm
Do you like the Hinske signing…?
I think it was a joke, Our F.O. stooped that low this offseason, even the guys on the 680AM radio show out here thought it was a joke that we added more slop to the roster
January 6th, 201010:41 pm
Unreal finish in the GMAC Bowl . . . overtime??
January 6th, 201010:42 pm
even the guys on the 680AM radio show out here thought it was a joke that we added more slop to the roster
Well if the guy on AM radio don’t like it….
But seriously. Bench guys aren’t going to have impressive numbers. That’s why they’re bench guys ad not starters. He was good enough for the Yankees last year.
January 6th, 201010:45 pm
DOB, reading back to “Robert” and whoever else between 7 and 8pm… eff those guys, seriously. You’ve done a great job with this blog. The fact that you encourage non-baseball talk on here makes the blog seem as “homey” as talking to people on a blog who you’ll never meet possibly can. I’m just not sure why people feel the need to give you sh*t.
Regardless of your questionable choice of BBQ restaurants in Lexington, NC (Lexington BBQ is my other handle – I switch depending on my mood), you do a fine job. Actually, your responsiveness to opinions and inquiry on the blog has converted a long time Cubs fan over to the good guys side: “He answers your questions and stuff? Man, no one is doing that for Cubby fans”. So, Robert, you know where you can go.
Tomahawkin……..To be honest, I think that our bench is lining up to be pretty strong this year. If Bobby Cox decides to go with only 12 pitchers instead of 13, then our bench could be even more flexible (especially if Thurston B. Howell makes the team and can contribute as the jack of all trades infielder, pinch runner, pinch hitter, etc.)
Hinske should provide much more power than Greg “couldnt hit his way out of a paper bag” Norton coming off the bench. While Norton was pretty useless in the field, at least Hinske can play 1st and the outfield if need be.
I like the move, given how cheap he came.
Also, I would like to see Bobby carry 3 catchers instead of 2. David Ross has decent pop in his bat. He should be available to either pinch hit or come in for Brian McCann if McCann needs to be pinch run for. Yet last year, he languished on the bench unused because Bobby didnt want to risk using him only to see McCann get hurt later in the game.
The A Bomb
January 6th, 201010:46 pm
Lentz — Next year if you log on to your DTV acct online you can watch the Ticket on your computer. Just follow the links. My son can now comfortably go away to college next year because he can (A) get mlb.tv and (B) watch the NFL on his laptop.
January 6th, 201010:49 pm
How is the Hinske signing a joke? The world series champs traded two minor league players for him last year. He is a solid signing who can play the corners in the infield and the outfield.
Actually jeffrey d — I think opposing managers are going to have to work a lot harder against us in those late-game situations.
I think the bench is the one area where we have actually improved.
Doesn’t add up to 86-90 wins, though, IMO.
TV… so I don’t have cable, so in the past even if I did have mlbtv, I still couldn’t get a LOT of games if they were on $#%#$% peach tree TV. Does anyone know any other options for us schmucks living in the Columbia, SC area?
January 6th, 201010:53 pm
mine is a wonderful, loving pet and it always makes me smile thinking that I rescued from an unknown future BBF
I hope VJ appreciates all that
A-Bomb – I agree…I was arguing that the Hinske move was good
January 6th, 201010:56 pm
Andrew in PA
From Earlier today
You are right in your post last night. If Wren knew That the Owners were going to go cheap this offseason he should not have dymped all that money on Hudson and spent the offseason looking for a bat instead of Dumpster diving
Glaus and Hinske what a Joke, they even called the offseason a Joke on 680AM…
More guys with rings in the clubhouse, the better. I love the Hinske signing. He is far from a slug.
Braves Lifer………..I think that Tomahawkin is just disappointed that we didnt sign a slugger with some pop in his bat from the right side who can play the outfield.
Still, when the dust is settled, our bench should be an asset.
If Bobby only carries 12 pitchers…..then the 5 players on the bench should be the following: 1. David Ross, catcher. 2. Omar Infante, plays both infield and outfield. 3. Eric Hinske, 1st baseman, corner outfielder. 4. Matt Diaz, corner outfielder. 5. Thurston B. Howell, plays everywhere.
If we go with an outfield of Diaz in left, McLouth in center, and Cabrera in right……..then Diaz’s spot on the bench would go to either Micah Jones or the 3rd catcher.
However that could all change if Jason Heyward starts the year with the big club……or if Frank Wren makes another trade.
Either way, the bench should stronger this year. Let’s not forget that Omar Infante missed 2 months last year with the broken hand. I feel that he’s an important part of our bench because of his versatility.
January 6th, 201010:58 pm
Hinske is just like Glaus, both were on Peds a few years ago and Hinske has only had 2 good years his whole career, I smell another Craig Wilson signing, It seems like we have one of those type players on our roster annually especially over the last 5 years
January 6th, 201010:59 pm
One of my earlier posts from this afternoon
Just like last year there are Way Too many “If’s” on the roster…And What Happens if Heyward gets injured, has a slow rookie season when the league figures him out, or gets injured…?
Last year we got burned by depending on the “ifs” on our roster
Because other than S. Training Heyward is unproven. I love Heyward a lot but you never Know he could be the Next George Lombard. Point is we have No Plan B because the Owners went Cheap yet again and settled for slop in the offseason…
January 6th, 201011:00 pm
Elon Brave……..I feel you on SUCK A$$ Punktree TV. Each night when I would check the guide to see what channel the Braves would play the MLB Extra Innings package on Direct TV last year…..I knew that the game was being televised on Punktree TV when I didnt see the game available on the HD channel.
January 6th, 201011:02 pm
Yeah but Lentz if you go to 652 you get to see the game COMMERCIAL FREE!
Our bench is gonna be Dope but that will be irrevelant when you can’t score runs early in the game which forces our starters to pitch under stress more because the offense only scores 1-3 runs during the first 8 innings…
And you are right I’m P’d that we didn’t get a RH bat to sandwich between Chipper and B-Macc
January 6th, 201011:03 pm
The A Bomb………I have to agree with your10:56pm post. I feel that players who have played in play-off games and have World Series rings to show for their efforts…..can positively influence a locker room.
Players who are used to winning would not have put up with the crap that our offense displayed at times last year. World Series rings dont come to those who consistently lay down to the likes of Cincinnati, Washington, and Pittsburgh.
January 6th, 201011:06 pm
Glaus – ring
Hinske – ring
Cabrera – ring
A good thing, IMO
You guys are learning more about the nickname game from me more and more…Next thing you guys will adopt nicknames for the opposing players you hate like I did last year with for example
Among others, lol
I think everyone is disappointed that we didn’t sign a slugger but honestly it may be a smart call. Say we have $87M spent already as Bowman suggested. In June we will know better what our team needs to make the playoffs and the money that we will have left over will get us twice the player we could have afforded now. In any case our roster should be very competive.
Canadian Braves Fan
the Braves got a RH bat his name is Glaus
Cox will only carry 12 pitchers and will not carry 3 catchers
Javy lopez/ Vasquez
Why is everyone penciling in Heyward, dude has 0 at bats in the bigs, he could do like Schafer & bomb. The only proven outfielder we have is McClouth,so we still need to add another proven bat, Diaz, Melky, & whoever is not gonna get it. if Hinske is the last piece, you can forget about October baseball, same as last year, cant win if we cant score Frank Wren!
January 6th, 201011:08 pm
Tomahawkin……….I agree, we have a number of ifs. While I would have preferred to see the Braves do things differently this off season, Frank Wren was able to make some potentially pretty shrewd moves, given what he spent.
My focus will be on how to best use what we have. If used properly by Bobby Cox (meaning that he plays the players who deserve to play)….then our team will compete because our starting pitching will keep us in the race. I made the mistake last year of counting us out after the last game of the San Francisco series after the All-Star Break.
Still, there’s a difference between competing and having a legit chance to make the play-offs. Our offense will determine the difference in 2010…….as our lack of it in critical times determined it in 2009.
January 6th, 201011:09 pm
Why Did Wren Throw all that money away to Hudson when he knew that L. Media was gonna go Cheap again for the second straight season? He should’ve let Hudson walk, kept Vazquez and got Jason Bay…
What a sh..tty offseason, just like last decade…!
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
