I think DOB and L.E.N.T.Z. are the same person. L.E.N.T.Z. is just an alias DOB uses so he can blog here anonymously when the mood strikes. =)

Skins will probably draft a QB. Bradford or Claussen?
Whose side are you on?
Um, go Dawgs?
I like it…he can play 1B/3B/LF/RF and gives us a power bat on the pinch hit circuit…isn’t he a switch hitter too?
Hinske’s a good fit for that role, since he can back up 1B, 3B and the OF
What section do you get your seats in?
January 5th, 201010:48 pm
Right on cue, the Braves sign another loser.
He’s a pinch hitter. Pinch hitters are notoriously losers. Otherwise, they’d be starters.
He was ROTY. He’s not a total loser.
Andrew in PA
Are you F’ing telling me that we traded javy so we could get glaus and hinkse…this is absolute bullsh*t…and your saying the braves are not dropping the payroll…seriously trade javy and the bats you get are glaus and hinkse..that is fu*ked up..is anyone else p*ssed off about that too or is it just me?
Tomahawkin………..in the history of the NFL, there have been 19 occasions where a team who swept another team in the regular season met up with that team for a 3rd time in the play-offs. 13 times the 2-0 team completed the 3-0 sweep.
While it is far from a guarantee that the Cowboys will complete the sweep, the Eagles have several factors going against them. 1. their inability to protect McNabb against the Dallas front 4 pass rush. 2. their inability to put the kind of pressure on Romo that will prevent him from picking apart their defense.
Simply put, Dallas is strong up front, on both sides of the ball. That is why Dallas will easily beat the Eagles Saturday night.
The A Bomb
All right Lentz — You made a point last night that…. Cox should have been fired because of his 4 straight losing seasons. He hasn’t produced a winner so somewhat else should have a shot.
No argument with that at all. In fact, with everything that has transpired with the payroll, I now believe the ONLY reason Cox is around for a farewell tour is to sell tickets. Because frankly, they’re not going to overtake Philadelphia with the group they have now.
But a few months back, you called for Bobby Valentine to be the next Atlanta manager. You reiterated that tonight. I give you credit for sticking to your guns, but c’mon — you want a guy who has NEVER, I repeat — NEVER won a division title. That means for a 162-game season, his teams have never finished in first place. NEVER! Even with a ton of talent! OK, so he won in AAA Japan. Big deal. Yeah, he might not have put up with certain things like Francoeur and/or Johnson but he also didn’t get along with his players too well. Other potential managers would have been the same way. Can’t imagine free agents wanting to play for him. I’m no supporter of how Cox has managed but I will tell you Bob Valentine was his beeeeeeyatch for years. There are far better candidates than that guy — Wellman and/or Brundage need to come up with the next staff to make the transition easier for the young guys. That will be interesting.
I hope it’s not Kojak Pendleton but I fear he is being groomed for the post. Bob Valentine at age 60 would be a disaster. Older managers are ornery and usually set in their ways. Just look at how Cox managed last year. Bob Valentine equals Chuck Tanner equals Eddie Haas equals Russ Nixon. They would be the Mount Rushmore of Suck A$$ Braves managers as you say.
I mean, I understand (and am all for) people voicing their opinions … but to compare Eric Henske to Greg Norton (version 2009) is laughable … I know Hinske ain’t no Omar Infante, but good lord!
Dammit, Wren. Now what do we talk about for the rest of the offseason?
January 5th, 201010:50 pm
Andy, Hinske bats left
Chris from the Rock
Nice move. Hinske’s a huge upgrade over Norton, since he can actually play in the field.
too bad we did not sign Damon. Captain caveman could of saved a lot of you a lot of grief today, “summer hot, winter cold.”
The thought of Heyward and Schafer in the same outfield really excites me.
Me too…though I’m sure no one knew that.
i checked…hinske bats left…but still a good signing…
my bad … Hinske (knew something didn’t look right)
January 5th, 201010:51 pm
He was another failed JP Ricciardi signing.
Deep breath, Andrew. It’ll be okay.
January 5th, 2010
cricket…….global warming will lead to eventual global freezing. Google it and do a little reading on how it will come to be. It’s happened in the past.
Dude, that was an obviously sarcastic comment about global freezing. I don’t really want to engage in this fruitless debate anyway. Only thing it is good for is DOB’s page numbers and he’s made it clear that enough is enough.
Man, I asked guys in my office who don’t really follow ACC to watch Ga Tech’s amazing offense today and they are laying a solid egg..
January 5th, 201010:52 pm
Hinske, I knew it. I dont know his stats I’ll have to look it up. Probably nothing impressing but he probably has power potential and has played OF, 1B
Chris from the Rock — my 84-year-old mother-in-law would be an upgrade over Norton. She now plays the field as well since she lost my father-in-law.
January 5th, 201010:53 pm
Eric Hinske meet 5th place, 5th place meet Eric Hinske.
Look at the dropoff from Hinske’s rookie year. Roids?
i dont blame anyone for not going to turner field to see that braves now that we trade away someone in the cy young race to spend 3 or 4 million dollars
January 5th, 201010:54 pm
Chris…I think he had a few injuries.
Are you F’ing telling me that we traded javy so we could get glaus and hinkse…is anyone else p*ssed off about that too or is it just me?
Just you. And the other loonies.
We traded Vazquez because we had too many starters. He had one year left on his contract. A team that’s trading for one year of a top starter is looking to compete immediately. We weren’t going to get a Majors ready player for him. We got a stud pitching prospect for him, but for some reason, a lot of the loonies are talking like it was Vazquez for Melky straight up.
Is it me or are the Braves cutting payroll by 10%? Maybe 5-7% after incentives, but still…
January 5th, 201010:55 pm
Campbell should be. He put up great numbers behind that terrible patch work line running for his life every game. He played threw all the beatings and and never lost his cool about all the speculation last offseason. He should be the Starter next year with a improved younger line.
We draft a so call Franchise QB and dont address the line it will be David Carr all over again!!!
Draft The Best LT at pick 4, and use the other picks to add a RB, CB, FS, OG. Build the line.
Cut Portis, Betts, Randel El.
Build The Defensive Scheme around Haynsworth he is a monster let him do what he wants it will be best for team believe me!! and The Put Orapko Rookie OLB/DE at DE fulltime. Sign Shaun Merriman who is scheduled to be a free agent after the super bowl. The Chargers Drafed OLB Larry English with there 1st pick last draft to replace Merriman when he leaves for the big bucks that the Skins deal out. Our defense is already playoff caliber just need a new scheme.
The Offense needs new line and younger RB.
So, how much would King Albert get next year from Cards? Has to be something like 7/8 yrs at 20 mil per minimum. Looks like Cards will be joining the next strata of rich teams in MLB.
Hinske is not Norton 2.0.
He was at 3 WS in a row. That’s a goods sign.
David O’Brien…………If Glaus gets 500 plate appearances, it will mean that he is healthy and is producing. To be honest, if Bobby rests him against tough righties to help preserve his health, then he may not get 400 at-bats.
However if he reverts back to the Troy Glaus of old, then the incentive money will be money well spent. Frank Wren did a good job of structuring the contract that rewards Glaus if he is producing. If Glaus is hurt, the Braves liability is limited.
I feel that one way of looking at the incentives is that if the Glaus meets those incentives, then it will be because he is crushing the ball, which would help the Braves win some games and increase attendance (which would increase revenue).
If that were to happen, the incentives would more than pay for themselves, meaning that the payroll funds would be freed up to make a trade to improve the roster down the line.
Mets got Bay, Phillies got Halladay. Braves got a trio of losers. Fire Wren now.
January 5th, 201010:56 pm
I think Pujols gets at least 22-25M per year
so far not a good day for the techies. tech just lost to probably the 12th best b’ball team in the sec, gonna need a big finish to to beat iowa, and if that is not bad enough RUDY is also on and i do believe they end up losing that one to notre dame.
January 5th, 201010:57 pm
Mike Nolan? I wish I could have been in the room when his 27 year old boss fired him
Hinske or Huff i like. Huff has advantage with the Bat, can play 1B,3B,COF but below average to bad D but he’s had plenty of time at all those postions.
Hinske bat not as good as Huffs but can play all of those postions i’ve listed better than Huff.
Both should be cheap, sign one and get this show on the road,!!!
roman…section 139 4th row aisle can look straight into the bullpen
Not that she’s bitter or anything (come on, Tech!)
January 5th, 201010:58 pm
Hinske is NOT Norton. He’s actually the best pinch hitter we’ve had in a LONG time.
uga – I chortled quite a bit at the “Rudy” reference
thanks DOB – I was just trying to figure out the method to the madness of the accounting. I was coming at it from the other way – with a couple of years left why would the Braves decide to buy out McLouth already? If he picks it up and returns to previous form he will be a solid LF with hopefully Schafer in CF. Then again, if Schafer shows he is ready sometime this year, it would not surprise me to see the Braves move McLouth next offseason
Macon Braves (RIP)
Nick—You’re and Idi…..oh nevermind, you’re not worth it.
Ignatius J. Reilly
Life must really suck for you.
January 5th, 201010:59 pm
VaBraveFan – what was Haynesworth mad about a few weeks ago? I remember him saying stuff in the media but I never figured out what it was about.
Andrew in PA
I told everyone on here after the WS that The owners were going to go cheap on us this offseason just like last year and people handed my a..s to me…
And I’m with you I still can’t get over how bad Wren got worked over by WhineBrenner in the Vazquez deal. I said it before and I will say it again that I’d a felt better if Wren got a bag of baseballs as opposed to the Slop he got
I am disappointed to hear Damon is no longer (or never was) a possibility. But I prefer a Diaz/Hinske platoon in LF to signing Xavier Nady or Jermaine Dye for the full time gig…I think we’ll get better offensive production with that platoon and Hinske can back up Chipper or Glaus. I wish the payroll would have gone up enough to keep Vazquez and sign Glaus and Hinske…but I think FW has done a tremendous job with limited funds.
I’m getting fired up, people!
AROD makes around 29 mil a year so Pujols should make the same if not more considering Pujols is better. Thats my opinion.
January 5th, 201011:00 pm
Looks like the only roster spot battle in ST could be Thurston V Conrad.
January 5th, 201011:01 pm
lol VJ. Let us hope that Singletary is the answer.
Before you blame Wren for the garbage offseason blame Cheap L. Media for trimming payroll. I’m curious as to what Leo Mazzone will say tomorrow on 680 AM, he will probably make excuses instead of calling out our cheap corporate owners
DOB, nice find…Jason Heyward on Twitter
Rush Limbaugh Does Have A Heart………..addressing your 10:20pm post, how many rich tax payers who support the war (any war for that matter that involves oil) are willing to show their patriotism by insisting that their kids join the military and have them sent to Iraq to fight for “freedom”?
When the rich expect the poor to sacrifice their sons and daughters in wars that only benefit the rich…….then the poor have every right to expect the rich to take care of them.
To support any way, I think that every family should be required to send a family member to fight OR fork over some cold hard cash to support the war effort.
January 5th, 201011:02 pm
anyone ever read Mazzone’s book?
You’re on the wrong blog.
looks like you need to write and new blog dave, because none of this crap is going to happen.
January 5th, 201011:03 pm
the offensive moves by the Braves are not overly impressive this offseason but we are already started out ahead by not having Francoeur in RF, Schafer in CF and KJ at 2B. Also, what are the chances of Chipper Jones and McCann both having subpar years again?? McLouth, even though he himself had a subpar year, was a huge addition after having Schafer and then Blanco in CF to start the year last year.
this year’s lineup should be significantly stronger
i’ve been patient, been supportive, but, if that’s it, this off-season is ending very badly for frank wren.
Joe D. loves Marilyn
Well that should about wrap it up till spring training…with the Eric Hinske signing.
A hell of lot better left-handed pop than Greg Norton coming off the bench? (1HR every 28 at bats…versus Norton at 1HR every 27 at bats…career people!!!) Please say that he signed for less than 1M? Ok…give him some incentive at least…
Maybe this Mitch Jones can stick thru spring and be our right-handed pop off the bench?
Should be an interesting spring training…
January 5th, 201011:04 pm
The Defensive scheme didnt fit what he does best. He’s a big differense maker if u let him do what he wants. We had him in alot of situations just take up space instead of being a dominate force pushing the QB out of the pocket. Also we had him drop back in coverage on Confusing Blitz schemes lol The man is a monster. takes 2 and 3 guys to block him. When we signed him we told him we would plan around him and that didnt happen.
re payroll – actually Glaus would normally be a $10M plus player, McCann is signed ver cheaply…. JJ, Hanson, Prado, Yunel etc are way under their ability/pay scale… so I do not see us as being that shabby with the loot… plus Diaz is just outright cheap….
Tomahawkin – I blame both.
DOB – can we lock Lentz and Wayne in Utah in a steel cage match and let them go at it somewhere else?
January 5th, 201011:05 pm
If Glaus has a big year this year and stay’s healthy, you can bet he’ll get a lot more money next year from some team.
should be an interesting spring training to see if the nats or braves will finish last this year
Soph…….the Redskins have a lot of problems. Offensive line cant block, defensive line cant put pressure on the QB, running backs cant stay healthy, a secondary that cant tackle, etc.
Jason Campbell hasnt had much help during his time as QB.
I like the Hinske signing, now for the last bench spot how about Sheffield? Infante(2b,3b and SS), Ross (C), Hinske(1B,3B,LF,RF),Cabrera (OF), Sheffield (LF,RF)…..you have power from left in Hinske and right in Sheff…I think that would make for a very solid bench (I actually think its solid as is)
January 5th, 201011:06 pm
Over/under on Tebow draft place … Pick #30
Not a Troy Glass Supporter at all
Especially that now he is off the roids
And for all the Glaus fans must know that he played on the Same Angels team that Had Jose Canseco, Scott Spezio, and Loaf on it, and all had career years other than Canseco who was falling apart physically
Can Fran Wren non-tender Liberty Media?
It's all about me, Paul Dense
I wonder if all these rednecks know how hard it is trying to educate them…
signing lowe is screwing the braves over for the next 3 years
January 5th, 201011:07 pm
Braves will be 20 GB by mid-June. One of the worst teams in baseball.
tomahawkin.. Anderson has been fairly consistent during his career.
Joe – Norton was not a terrible pinch hitter through his career. He actually has had some good years before, like 2 years ago. Unfortunately he completely lost it last year and was terrible. #6 was way too loyal to him last year
oops, did I say that out loud??
January 5th, 201011:09 pm
Nick, you really think a team with a rotation of Huddy, JJ, Lowe, Hanson, and KK is one of the worst teams in baseball?
I don’t like how Wren Leaked the Idea of the thought of trading Lowe…He should’ve kept that on the Down Low…
Make offers for Lowe at the meetings and see which GM would’ve bit. Instead Wren made the idea of dumping Lowe a public issue…which I didn’t like…
I’m not sure what Schuerholtz would have done in his situation, but then again Wren probably gets a lot of consultation from Schuerholtz…

I think DOB and L.E.N.T.Z. are the same person. L.E.N.T.Z. is just an alias DOB uses so he can blog here anonymously when the mood strikes.
Thats cold…………….really cold!
January 5th, 201011:10 pm
Andrew in PA……..Because of Frank Wren’s ability to make a shrewd trade in mid-season to improve the team (Nate McLouth for example), I will reserve judgment on the dumping of Vazquez that resulted in the Glaus and Hinske signings.
While I’m concerned about our lack of power right now, the Braves could very well prove me wrong and stay healthy enough to hit some bombs out enough to improve the offense in 2010. I hope that is the case.
I love, love, love, a thousand, million times LOVE Mike Singletary!!!
Actually Andre Carter is having a career year at DE and is putting great pressure at qb, so is Rookie Pro Bowl OLB Orakpo. Our Secondary can tackle, just cant cover. Landry can hit but cant cover, but would have been great if paired with the late Sean Taylor who could cover two football fields. Betts is good enough for a two back backfield with a 3rd round type rb. Skins need OL with their first two picks. Hopefully the cat from Ok State.
January 5th, 201011:11 pm
Defensive Line that cant pressure the QB???? Orapko a Rookie 11 sacks Carter DE 11 sacks umm thats pressure. O-Line was hurt, of course they cant block when you lose a OL man good as Chris Samuels (better than any Cowgirl Lineman) your gonna have problems.
Campbell played very well considering who was blocking for him.
Our Defense is already good enough we have the pieces the scheme was bad and we only finished in the Top 10 again and also we had the 4th ranked D in 2008 with out and QB pressure, So we got the talent on D
Our Offense is a Mess, But Shanny and new regime will fix it. If they draft a QB then hell with em. lol
And Roodge Owns
Nick, you seem retarded.
January 5th, 201011:12 pm
Get rid of Clinton Portis.
Rush Limbaugh Does Have A Heart
LENTZ…you ignorant slut…
You should just stay tuned to your NAMBLA updates…(North American Man / Boy Love Association) and leave the Braves to those who care about this team…
That maybe the most moronic thing that has ever been posted…
Sign or draft some WRs.
Under. Going to the Jags 1st round.
January 5th, 201011:13 pm
Javier Vazquez and Boone Logan for Arodys Vizcaino, Melky Cabrera, Mike Dunn, Troy Glaus, and Eric Hinske.
Sean Taylor and Laron Landry (who suppost to be in the box in run support not a natural FS like theybeen making him play) would be the best saftey tandem in football.
Jags need him to keep their team in that state. What do you think about Urban Meyer coaching the Jags!?
im confused when did wren sign clinton portis and for what position??
Wayne in Utah
That wouldn’t be fair. Paul is much younger than I. He could probably whup me bad, but if I somehow could pin him down, he might not get up!
January 5th, 201011:14 pm
Great minds think alike there.
January 5th, 201011:15 pm
good for whoever thinks the braves are a better team then they were last year..braves are 4th in the east.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
