I honestly don’t think Bradley would even make an impact in Atlanta, offensively speaking.

Please do not compare 110 game a year Milton the monster with former superstar 130 rbi a year machine
Gazza Sheffield

I watched Sheff play in NY for a while with a separated shoulder, despite that he fronted up every day and hit very well

Bradley, on the other hand, can’t play with the mildest of colds, is soft, is a trouble maker… and has only had 2 years in 10 where he has managed > 500 ABs

I wouldnt mind having Sheffield as a part time player, 1 yr 1 mil no more than that, we would be better off giving a younger more athletic player a chance at a lower salary. But he could help the team in a limited role for sure

Soneone on the Braves MLB board had a great idea, IMO. Try to trade Lowe and Prado to Baltimore for Brian Roberts. Roberts is owed 30 mil over the next 3 years, so the Braves would save 5 mil per year. And on Baltimores side, they get a good veteran pitcher and a good young 2nd baseman for the future. If that’s not enough, try to also throw in a prospect like Jojo or something.

Roberts (30 steals, 15 homers)
McLouth (20 steals 20 homers)
Jones
McCann
Atkins for 1st?
Heyward
Escobar
Diaz

Great lineup, IMO. Make it happen Wren!

I went to school with a girl whose birthday was December 13th.

I’ll never forget it because in the 2nd grade, her birthday fell on Friday the 13th. She was supposed to have all the girls in the class over to her house for a sleep-over, but, she became ill and started throwing up around noon that day.

We ended up going to the same university, too. I rarely saw her, but I did see her on the 13th of December (also a Friday that year), and I remember yelling (from a bit of a distance), “Happy birthday” to her. She seemed pleased that I remembered.

I wonder if she realized why I remembered so clearly?

The answer for first base is sign Garko (2/6) and Aubry Huff (1/5). That is a good platoon and Garko can continue to platoon with Freeman if Freeman should struggle in 2011.

You see FREEMAN in ATLANTA in 2011? I’m sorry, I don’t, at this point anyway. He’s gotta’ improve 180% at the plate IMHO to see the light of day in ATLANTA anytime before the next two years are done.

About like he plays outfield…. In two games there last year (1st) he had an error. I would only use him there as a backup/emergency. But everyday with Yunel throwing 90+ gas off the mark constantly? Nope, Yunel and Chipper would end up with 25 errors a piece.

The Brewers could stil contend without Fielder. With that deal they would save 10+ mil and they could sign Beltre to play 3B and move McGhee to 1B and they would still have money to shop for a reliever that they need to setup Hoffman. It makes no sense on their part. I mean you are talking one of the best hitters in the MLB right now. It would take more than B. Jones and Medlen to get it rolling. Freeman and Melen are good starting points, but Jones isn’t going to amount to much. You would have to include Schaefer and probably another high prospect to make it happen. And thats all at the risk of losing him after a yar. But Lowe will not go for Rivera straight up. Even with eating part of the contract. He is to much apart of their offense next year.

no, too one dimensional.881F% as a third baseman in the minors, and that is atrocious. even though he bats lefty his admittedly limited MLB stats show that he did not hit RHPs well so far , might end up a decent hitter, but some on here are overvaluing him a bit at this point IMO.

P'cola Brave

With Brian Roberts you get him for three years. I doubt Prado reaches superstar status but will probably be a solid player for many years. By the time Roberts contract is up we will have another second baseman knocking on the door. Roberts is solid, a true leadoff, and a veteran ball player. I think he will be just as valuable in the short run as Prado.

Personally I think Roberts would be great for the Braves. Led all ML’s in doubles last year. He is a true leadoff, so we could move Nate back where he could drive in runs and his .260-.270 avg is more acceptable.

Prado would fit in with the young youth movement that is going on in Baltimore amongst position players. Having Lowe and Millwood to anchor the top of their rotation would be good for the young pitchers. It could be a win-win for both clubs. Again its probably doubtful it would happen because B. Roberts is the facial figure for the O’s.

Here’s my hangup on all this stuff… My own personal estimations of money committed by Braves rests somewhere between 85 and 90 MM right now, as is… That is with Lowe’s “elephant in the room” contract. The payroll is supposed to remain steady at 93-95MM, or so it’s been reported/written somewhere amongst all the reports/blogs I’ve read online. I don’t know what the Braves want to spend or if they’re going for one bat to play some 1b and of or if they’re going after two bats, one for 1b and one for of. But if they’re only going for one bat, especially if it’s someone like Nady or even Cameron, why trade Lowe at all? Presuming my poor man’s calculations are half-way accurate and the Braves do maintain payroll, they could conceivably pay for one “bat” on a 1 yr/7MM contract give or take a couple MM. and be close to budget, maybe a tad over. Why unload 11 to 15 MM more dollars? Unless, of course, the Braves are not maintaining payroll?

I don’t care if people on here have unrealistic expectations or not regarding the players the Braves should pursue. The bottom line is that the Braves need a top notch hitter to get back to the playoffs, and counting on young Jason Heyward and any combination of Nady, Cameron, DeRosa, Byrd, or lesser candidates is utterly absurd!

Why do we need anything in return? The full $15 million over 3 years ($45 million) is much more valuable than a mid level guy in return or a prospect. $45 million in payroll is huge for a team with the Braves payroll limits. yeah he’s been kicked around on here quite a bit actually. Except for last year he has not been much of a hitter away from that Texas hitters paradise. Hard to tell how he would do in Atlanta. Haven’t checked in since the KJ non-tender.

Obviously disappointed. Oh well, life goes on. At least we won’t have any more Prado/KJ defense/BABIP arguments (…as fun as they were at the time……..).

This Chavez guy looks interesting. Looks like the change-up will work against RH-hitters and LH-hitters, slider looks alright, too. Fastball’s flat as paper. Maybe McDowell/Wallace will work with him on a 2-seamer. If not, he may turn into the next homer-maker™ (previous owner of that title is Blaine Boyer) and become the blog’s favorite whipping boy. That would be pretty funny, too, I can only begin to imagine the hilariously nasty nick-names.

Not happy Moore grabbed Osuna, though I don’t think they’ll keep him on their roster all year. He’s thrown ~75 innings above Class-A Advanced. Clearly not ready. Though, being the Royals and having no hope of contention, they may just keep him on the roster and rarely use him or let him get torched, regardless of whether it hurts the team or not, just to have him long-term.

I thought Diaz was going to get $3 million in arb. Bravo Wren for signing him at $2.55 million. I’m glad they held on to Logan and Moylan (though that was a given), too.

Church? Eh. Whatever, I’m not upset he was cut. Could have been handled better, maybe if they had given some of Loaf’s PA’s to Church in August/September when Church was healthy they could have generated some interest in a trade, but whatever. No big deal.

“jeffrey d typically takes cheap shots at people. He will routinely take something out of context and try and make someone look bad. For instance, last night, a poster said the he was watching ‘Da Vinci Code’ on TNT. Given it was late, I engaged in a discussion with him about my take on the movie. Since the premise of the movie had to deal with the possibility of “jesus” having a family…….I decided to post my take on this premise.

Yet jeffrey d conveniently leaves that out. All he does is post “where did the jesus stuff come from”. Typical, from his kind” — Paul Dentz

Dentz, not only are you the blogs biggest A-hole, you’re also it’s biggest liar. Show us some “typical” or “routine” examples of jeffrey d making someone look bad. You see, a person’s personality comes out with words. While jeffrey d is well-liked on this blog, you are hated.
