Thats great i have a t-shirt jersey thing of McLouth.

December 2nd, 20094:33 pm
where did you find that. What a dumbass
Hey, nearly 1,000 comments in just over 24 hours on a December day a week before Winter Meetings. Good stuff. Thanks, folks. (We need a major free-agent signing more often….)
December 2nd, 20094:35 pm
Do you have a link to the Wagner press conference? Thanks.
What’s Nate’s new number?
If it’s 72 he’ll be my new favorite Brave, 72, 29, or 11
December 2nd, 20094:37 pm
Did you guys know Wagner was a natural right-hander? DOB
I hope the Braves sign Saito. I really don’t want Rodney here.
I’d settle for someone like Dotel if Saito is too much in demand.
December 2nd, 20094:38 pm
why do I have the feeling Sizemore’s GF released those pictures
civilized white trash
December 2nd, 20094:40 pm
DOB what do the other brave players think of them signing wagner
Anyone on here have a subscription to Baseball America? I’m thinking of ending my Baseball Prospectus website subscription (just not a lot of great content recently), and switching over the Baseball America for next year. Any opinions that anyone has that can help inform my decision would be appreciated. Thanks! RC
America is much more scout/tools oriented and Prospectus is more stas oriented. Different approaches and sometimes fifferent thoughts on the same player. America is not cheap, even if you just get the online version.
Ideally you should have both plus ESPN Insider. Enjoy.
Here’s an article without nude pictures: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/30/grady-sizemore-photos-wer_n_373901.html
I think he can do whatever the hell he pleases, if he wants to shoot pictures of his dingle-berry let him, he’s a human being…
December 2nd, 20094:41 pm
The number #13 thing with Wagner…now that is great stuff. I love him already. Wasn’t it Wagner who pulled Lastings Milledge aside and told him to stop acting like a jackass?
Cool of McClouth to give the number up too.
I’m beginning to really like Frank Wren. The guy takes calculated risks…this was a good move with tremendous upside. And if it doesnt work out…its a one year problem about as expensive as three Garrett Andersons.

RC–I subscribe to both and if I had to choose, I’d keep the BP one over the BA. But I do like both of them.
Better get the duct tape.
December 2nd, 20094:43 pm
Hope the next signing is Mike Cameron
Oh man, thats a real kick in the balls!

Interesting that Wagner is a friend of Chipper. Not surprising though, they are about the same age, both likely in the last few years of outstanding careers. Then there’s that outdoors thing… I’m glad to see the Braves sign him, that was a surprise for me. I figured they would spend the serious money on a big bat. Maybe they have more budget flexibility than we suppose, especially in Bobby’s last year. 2010 is starting to look very good.
December 2nd, 20094:46 pm
My guess is McLouth’s new number will be 18, just a guess on my part though
Sorry I missed you! That’s a great wish-list! He’ll get both for you if he knows what’s good for him, right?
Wayne in Utah
Concerning Grady Sizemore’s situation. Do you know the difference between nude and naked (pronounced, nekked)?
What would you say about the volume of information available with Baseball America. It seems that they have a lot more content on a regular basis, but since I’ve not subscribed before I’m not sure how true that is. The past few months with Baseball Prospectus I find myself needing only 15 minutes to go through a full day of content, and even then there seems to be articles that are just as good at places like FanGraphs, without the fee.
December 2nd, 20094:47 pm
Jurrjens4LCY,I installed the Firefox and it is much faster, now I just have to figure where everything is. Thanks.
I’d keep the BP one over the BA. But I do like both of them. Steve
of course you would, stat-geek
Do you know the difference between nude and naked (pronounced, nekked)?
Nude is when you aren’t wearing any clothes. Nekked is when you aren’t wearing any clothes and are up to something.
Anyone know where we can watch the Press Conference?
December 2nd, 20094:48 pm
Maybe Wagner will take our pre-madonna SS to the side, and straighten him out a bit before the season gets too far along…..

Who actually reads ESPN? Probably account for 80% of the bottom 50% of baseball analysts in the country. They do decent football coverage but I’ll pass on the other sports.
December 2nd, 20094:50 pm
does anyone know where i can go to see the press confrence?
December 2nd, 20094:51 pm
Fantastic news, Wren you’re the best.
Now who are the Braves considering for setup guys. I like Rodney, Lyon, Latroy Hawkins, Octavio Dotel, JJ Putz, and Takashi Saito.
December 2nd, 20094:52 pm
McFann, since I am considering 300+ to get him started on scuba diving this year for his Christmas gift, I think a Braves theme Christmas would be very nice. For him, it’s either scuba or stuff for his car
I’ve been reading the blog, but not posting too much lately. I do miss the chats we all have on here.
To the Blog in General: In case I don’t post again anytime soon, I wish all of my blogging friends a wonderful Christmas Season. If you aren’t celebrating Christmas, then Happy Holidays. I refuse to limit myself to saying Happy Holidays, so please don’t be offended by my Merry Christmases.
Sorry Wayne! I thought you were soliciting answers….
Regarding this offseason’s early signings compared to last year’s free-agent woes for the Braves, Wren said that last season’s success and returning talent made it “a little easier to lure guys here this year.”
December 2nd, 20094:53 pm
How about Kiko Calero? I would love to see us offer Ohman a minor league contract too!
Ohman and Wagner in the clubhouse! DOB would have a heckuva year with that combo.
December 2nd, 20094:56 pm
I was. That was a short attempt at saying “you nailed it”
BA thinks Edgar Osuna and Yeliar Castro (power arm) are Rule V candidates, fwiw.
Right click next to your address bar and hit “customize” and drag everything you want to your bar

bravesgirl4life……Kudos to you for your stance on Merry Christmas. WAY too much PC nowadays.
December 2nd, 20094:59 pm
Got it Wayne . Smiling devil is much nicer than frowning devil (neither of which I can figure out how to do…)
My guess, nude is where you aren’t wearing any clothes, nekked is how George Bush Jr. pronounces naked, right?
December 2nd, 20095:00 pm
content depends on the time of the year. America has more I think and at least a bit about each club. I used to really enjoy getting their mag for years until it just got too dear to justify. I like America best but then I was a scout. If you are a stats guy you won’t find a lot to interest you IMO.
Wayne in Utah
I’m with you on that one. I really hope they look into Ohman. He would prolly get a minor league deal, with spring invite.
They should sign a couple more guys like Scott Proctor.
December 2nd, 20095:02 pm
Don’t go dissin’ my man dubya! That’s how a lot of us pronounce naked!
December 2nd, 20095:03 pm
Who needs BA and BP when we have nolie and Steve-O?
December 2nd, 20095:04 pm
You know what I like about this offseason so far. It seems like Wren has a very specific plan and is making calculated moves. Last year seemed like a cruel game of tag.
December 2nd, 20095:05 pm
Wayne in Utah…..that’s especially how it’s pronounced in the South. Giving away your “roots” here?
December 2nd, 20095:10 pm
I actually read Insider. I have no use for that silly magazine they send, but Insider keeps more up to date with what is happening all over baseball than BA or BP. If you’re too smart to read it. good for you.
December 2nd, 20095:11 pm
Ah, shucks…I missed it. I’m really interested in seeing the Wagner press conference! Anyone know where we can view it? Thanks!
I remember back when Billy Wagner was pitching at Ferrum. The news reports would show 75 people in the crowd, 60 of them baseball scouts. I’ve wanted him to pitch for the Braves ever since. It only took 20 years.
Hi bravesgrl4life! How’s the red McCann jersey coming? 23 more days.
December 2nd, 20095:12 pm
Thanks nolie. I wouldn’t classify myself as either a stats or scouts guy, since there’s definitely something to be learned from both. I’m more of a “don’t say stupid stuff you can’t back up” guy, although I will admit to falling into that trap myself from time to time.
December 2nd, 20095:13 pm
“Wren said that last season’s success and returning talent made it “a little easier to lure guys here this year.””
While I know a vocal minority here won’t like this assessment, the reality is that it also helps that this is Bobby Cox’s swan song. A lot of players, particularly the Southerners raised on Braves baseball, want to be part of the farewell tour.
RC–I subscribe to both and if I had to choose, I’d keep the BP one over the BA. But I do like both of them.
I’m BA, BP and ESPN Insider. I like all three. If I had to choose one, it would probably be Insider, but that’s a really tough decision.
December 2nd, 20095:15 pm
although I will admit to falling into that trap myself from time to time. RC
haven’t we all?
Oh the South! You and your incest and triple X beer jugs and square dancin’ and lack of education…
Just brings a smile to my face
figured this was very fitting for today
December 2nd, 20095:17 pm
WAY too much PC nowadays.
… I agree!
December 2nd, 20095:18 pm
Gone Viral……I totally agree with you about it being Bobby Cox’s last year, even though many players throughout the years have talked about being glad to play under him. There’s something to be said about legacies.
civilized white trash ,
You think they’ll play it?
December 2nd, 20095:19 pm
So will we have to wait to see what number McLouth chooses until spring? Pretty good story about why Wagner wants 13-understandable. Also very cool of Nate to give it up after he’s had it for so long, I bet Wagner gets him something nice for it, or at least should.
December 2nd, 20095:21 pm
Says the guy who wants to go to school down here.
December 2nd, 20095:23 pm
bravesgrl4life since I am considering 300+ to get him started on scuba diving this year for his Christmas gift, I think a Braves theme Christmas would be very nice.
It’s only fair. Then while you’re enjoying the Braves, he cann scuba-dive!
I miss the chats, too…We had some good ones this past season. And yeah, if we don’t talk before then, Merry Christmas to you!
I refuse to limit myself to saying Happy Holidays, so please don’t be offended by my Merry Christmases.
That goes for me, too!
December 2nd, 20095:24 pm
Sorry to disappoint you, but as yet I have never had an incestuous relationship, nor have I ever drank beer (though I had a half a cup of moonshine MANY moons ago). Got my masters degree from a decidedly “southern” university and most definitely love to square dance.

they have to! dont they?

December 2nd, 20095:31 pm
I thought it was 1 out of 4? Where did you go to school guy/gal?
PS When I have to count above 10, I have to take off my shoes!
December 2nd, 20095:33 pm
My gosh yes!
I want to go to school here to be close to the Braves…
Welcome to the North my friend, We’ll fix that square dancing problem too.
Wayne in Utah….our posts “crossed” in cyberspace. I’d already figured one out of 4 and…..went to school in the South, of course. Just takes me TWO times to get it right!
- @ least that was short & entertaining …. and I bet your momma didn’t HUG you, sorry dude !

Steely Dan Man, that is cool. I’m the same kind of fan except I named my only son, Charlamagne. I’m kidding, I’m kidding. Yeah, anything by them is top shelf with me.
December 2nd, 20095:36 pm
Had something interesting happen to me last week. Was driving in a mountaineous area right after dark on a two lane highway. I look out the window of my truck, and I see a large deer running at an intercept route toward me. My truck is big and white….not hard to see. He ran into the back near the drivers side tire area. Put some dents and scratches on it!
I looked in my rear view mirror, and he rolled 2-3 times, then sprang up and continued on his merry way!
I have hit deer in the past, but never had one run into me before….
I also think the Braves should kick the tires on Will Ohman.
And pursue Saito/Putz, although I thought Saito should be the closer and JJ Putz should be the 8th inning guy…
December 2nd, 20095:38 pm
Ya know why a woman has to ask her husband 3 times to do something? First time, he didn’t hear her. Second time, he didn’t think she was serious……
December 2nd, 20095:40 pm
Wayne in Utah……really????? We drive a white Crown Vic, not hard to see either, and have had TWO deer run into us. What can I say? Stupid deer in the South?
Let’s hope Frank’s next move clarifies our offensive direction a bit. I can wait a few weeks on Saito or whoever….
Good grief! Glad it didn’t run into a part of the car that would hurt you! And glad he was OK as well…
We have some deer in our woods–saw ‘em…yesterday, I think it was. There are about four or five–three babies…haven’t seen a buck, though–but this time there were only two. They LOVE the corn kernels we put out for them and the squirrels!
December 2nd, 20095:41 pm
It ain’t just the southern deer that are stoopid. I think in general, deer are as dumb as a box of rocks.
December 2nd, 20095:43 pm
i tell you what that will be good hearing that coming outta the braves bullpen for a change
December 2nd, 20095:44 pm
Anyone here tender a contract to Ryan Church?
Actually, I just want a good lefty platoon mate for Diaz that can play center well and doesn’t make much money…
December 2nd, 20095:45 pm
Wayne Let’s hope Frank’s next move clarifies our offensive direction a bit. I can wait a few weeks on Saito or whoever….
I’m with you. Seems like Frank is always signing pitchers…kinda gets boring. Not that there’s anything wrong with having good pitching…
the olny deer out west that are dumb are the ones that get shot by the casual raod hunter… i dont know how many times i have be in the high back country where the real deer hang out and have had one of the dumb as a box of rocks out smart me……
December 2nd, 20095:46 pm
Why is everyone thinking we’re buying one or several more setup guys? That has to be several orders of magnitude lower on the priority list than 1b or LF. Do you really want to spend more money on a bullpen arm that could instead get us the offense we need?
We have 9M in departing arms in Gonzalez & Soriano. We’ve already added Proctor and Abreu. So that’s more names coming in already than we have going out. Face reality, we’re done spending major money on bullpen arms. Another 1 or 2 minimum contract guys like Will Ohman or Jeff Bennett at most to come in for spring training and try to earn a spot.
Frankly, we are the team in all of major league baseball that needs bullpen arms the least as of today. We have 6 great starting pitchers, 2 of which are notorious “innings eaters” and the other 4 of whom certainly are capable of a ton of innings. Nobody has more projected innings under contract that we do. Even after we trade Lowe/Vasquez/Kawakami, we’ll still be elite in this area.
The second reason we don’t need any more arms is that Bobby has shown time after time that he is going to use the same key RP’s in all close games. Wagner, Moylan, O’Flaherety and Medlen are all people Bobby trusts. Then when 1 of them gets hurt Scott Proctor is likely to be rounding into shape. Our key bullpen roles are covered.
So we can either spend 7 more million getting another premium bullpen arm, and relegate Medlen to another year of mop-up duty, or we can give him the role he’s earned. Other teams would love to get him as a starter and it seems that many Braves fans here aren’t even considering him for the 2nd setup role. People, keep reality in mind and remember that the setup roles he and Moylan will take are far less impactful on the game than 1b and LF.
Just like good defense in LF won’t make up for a bad bat, a 5th good bullpen arm isn’t going to make up for a bad bat.
whats dumber than a box of rocks? what ever it is i earn that award
December 2nd, 20095:47 pm
I travel quite a bit in higher elevations in the west, and the deer from around early October are coming down out of their normal habitat in search of food, as the snow level drops. That puts them right there with me on the highways.
Usually I slow down quite a bit during the winter months, but you still have to be careful.
We live in a neighborhood that is on the “bench” of the Wasatch Mountains. Up the slope a ways from the valley floor. We see dozens of deer in our neighborhood each winter, and usually they are scrambling around trying to figure out a way back to the woods. I actually feel sorry for them.
December 2nd, 20095:48 pm
My brother ran into a deer up in the Sierra Nevada mountains last summer (”ran into” as in the deer was standing in the middle of the road, around a curve…brother never saw it until he hit it)- deer flew into the hillside, got up, shook, and ran off…apparently it’s not just Southern Deer…
CWT whats dumber than a box of rocks?
An empty box of marbles.
December 2nd, 20095:49 pm
Wayne…..I’m sorry and this is SO far off the track here, but your comment about dumb as a box of rocks reminded me of one of my favorite stories. Daughter’s ex-husband’s ex-girlfriend was given some Christmas decorations, including some blocks. When daughter and ex-hubby went to visit during the holidays (keep it friendly here in the South) , over the mantle, the blocks were arranged to spell “L-O-N-E”. When daughter asked what that was all about, ex-girlfriend said that was the only thing she could come up with to spell! P.S. Friends of ours who heard the story deliberately did that last Christmas to give us a laugh.
December 2nd, 20095:51 pm
Wayne usually they are scrambling around trying to figure out a way back to the woods. I actually feel sorry for them.
Yeah, same here…bet they look pretty in the snow, though! I’ve always wanted to see that…but whenever we get any “snow”, we never see our deer.
They do get kinda frantic at this time of year, I think…we’ve seen a few, ya know…on th side of the road.
December 2nd, 20095:52 pm
It took me about 15 seconds to get that one…
I think they must get mezmerized (sp) by the headlights or something.
Never been hunting though. Long as I have a Winn-Dixie or Safeway close by, I don’t need to be shootin’ at Bambi!
(but I don’t criticize my friends who do, I just prefer not to)
December 2nd, 20095:53 pm
I don’t tender Church.I’m comfortable with Diaz everyday for 2 months until Heyward is called up. At that point Diaz is your 4th OF and what is Church? He’d be hard to trade at that salary.
I save that 3 or 4M and use it on a better bat for our LF and 1b acquisitions. If for some reason Church is available come spring training for about 1M I’d sign him, but not at his arbitration number.
December 2nd, 20095:54 pm
LOTS of people in central (and the rest) of Virginia are still Chipper and Braves fans. My family went to a TON of R-Braves games when I was a kid (what a heartbreak Gwinnett was).
My mom is a big Chipper fan, and has even said she might switch to the Gnats when he retires (do to the abandonment of the Richmond area by the AAA team).
December 2nd, 20095:55 pm
I heard their was a tiger that looked like a deer in headlights, but no recent sightings.
December 2nd, 20095:56 pm
DOB, any speculation as to what the Braves would do if Soriano or Gonzales accepted arbitration at this point? My guess is that neither will, but obviously that is a possible outcome. I know they signed Wagner with the expectation that neither will accept, but I’m sure they planned for all contingencies.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
