We have a “snuggie” for our Gerbil, does that count?
Unless the gerbil can swallow you whole, I don’t think you have anything to fear…although why does a gerbil need a snuggie?
October 18th, 200912:43 pm
TnBrian: Elvis Andrus is better defensively.

Why does anyone need a Snuggie? To keep warm!

Francois? That is awesome! And I admit he is really kinda cute…
October 18th, 200912:55 pm
He’s so cute! Francois, I love it.
October 18th, 20091:02 pm
cabravesfan Francois? That is awesome!
Thanks. My brother named him (well, them…there used to be two…). He took French in high school.
And I admit he is really kinda cute…
Thanks. He’s a lot of fun, too.
Thanks! Uh…see response to cab.
October 18th, 20091:21 pm
I’m cheering for VJ’s Giants today.
October 18th, 20091:36 pm
So am I (although I really like Drew Brees )
October 18th, 20091:37 pm
I wouldn’t say that the Mets are far away from contending. Reyes will be back next year, Beltran will be back and healthier than last season (I say healthier because he always seems to be hurt), and they will have David Wright all season. Frenchy seemed to find his grove in NY and with all this protection in the lineup, he may do well next season. I expect the Mets will address the starting pitching and go after a 1st baseman or LF. They may even sign LaRoche, who knows? But to say the Mets are far from contending is not accurate. They WILL contend next year. That ball park was made for Reyes and if he comes back healthy, he if the spark plug for this team. They’ll be back next year, make no mistake. And as usual, the Braves with payroll constraints, won’t be able to offset the other offseason aquistions from the other teams in our league. We can’t afford Holliday of Bay. We NEED a big bopper, but they don’t come cheap. We need to address our bullpen. We need to address 1st base. I don’t want to trade Vasquez and sign Hudson to a long term deal. I like Huddy, but I think that is a mistake. I’m not saying our future doesn’t look bright, but I think it’s the Braves that are a way from contending, not the Mets.
October 18th, 20091:48 pm
I love Brees! Dude makes it rain td’s.
October 18th, 20091:52 pm
Sorry, VJ. It isn’t looking too good. Here’s to a big oomeback – I need Eli to throw some TD’s.
*comeback not oomeback.
October 18th, 20091:55 pm
It figures – my schedule today gives me a couple of hour window to watch this game, and the best I’ve had to get excited about is a blocked extra point
October 18th, 20092:02 pm
William and Mary’s own Darren Sharper – glad it didn’t count…
October 18th, 20092:05 pm
There ya go, VJ. TD Giants. But it wasn’t Eli…so that’s useless to me.
October 18th, 20092:12 pm
Lew – I agree you can always assume the Yankees could be in the mix but depending how the WS breaks they may skip dumping another 100-150mm on one player.
Pettite will retire sooner or later.
Joba seems destined for the pen.
They need (or will need) two starters IMHO more so than another power bat.
They have what is arguably the best offensive/defensive infield ever and certainly in the majors today.
They could alway use some pop in the OF but they don’t need it.
I also wonder if they want to pay more luxury tax and block minor leaguers with such a strong offense.
Put it this way if they throw 150mm at Holliday or something crazy like that I have to believe Selig makes a call and starts talking openly about a salary cap.
I think with Pujols saying he is no rush to sign an extension the Cards will be very aggressive with Holliday and try to lock him up before he hits the market. Sadly for them unless Holliday overrules Boras he will test FA.
In terms of the Mets I stand by my assessment. They need lots of work and need to beef up that rotation.
October 18th, 20092:14 pm
VJ,hoping to plan a big trip in RV in March. We are going to Savannah first for awhile and then onto Orlando for Braves spring training. We are waiting for spring training schedule for final plans.
October 18th, 20092:32 pm
The Mets need two front line starters to lead that rotation. They will have over pay to get them b/c most teams (apart from the Braves) need the same thing.
1B – FA or trade
LF – FA or trade
Possibly 2B (if Castillo repeats 08 versus 09) – perhaps trade him to make room for Orlando Hudson
CF – expensive guy with fading numbers – they need him to bounce back
SS – speedster coming back from leg surgery – who knows how this pans out. Where will they be if it doesn’t?
RF – JF needs to prove the 2H09 was not a dead cat bounce
C – their regulars apart from the rookie with 19 games hit very little in 2009.
So at a min to even match up with the Braves they need two starters, a 1B, a LFer and a catcher.
It is true the Braves need a 1B and LF but I think they will bring LaRoche back at a reasonable price and they will chase Bay hard. Holliday may get a peek but he could be too expensive.
The Braves rotation buries the Mets as of today and they are better at catcher, 2B, SS (until we know if Reyes is fixed) and RF (when Heyward arrives it will be no contest).
I see the Mets going after pitching first, then someone like Chone Figgins to play LF and as a back in the INF should someone slump or get hurt.
They will likely look for a catcher via trade to get more offense from that position.
1B could be interesting b/c they could make an offer to LaRoche which the Braves would not be able to meet.
If that were to happen Wren would have lots of scrambling to do.
Now if the Mets had the farm talent I could seem them doing a hail mary trade with San Diego for Adrian Gonzo.
October 18th, 20092:33 pm
Lets go Giants! I hate the ‘aints.
Izturis is no Cano.
October 18th, 20092:34 pm
In terms of starters I mean 2A/3 behind their Ace. Today they have an Ace and a bunch of 4/5s.
October 18th, 20092:36 pm
CF – McLouth
SS – Escobar
3B – Jones
LF – Cruz
C – McCann
1B – Laroche
2B – Prado
RF – Heyward
October 18th, 20092:37 pm
ozzie They will likely look for a catcher via trade to get more offense from that position.
No idea where they could find that kind of rare commodity…
October 18th, 20092:41 pm
Lets go Giants! I hate the ‘aints.
Agreed ‘cept I like Breesy.
October 18th, 20092:42 pm
I see Bama’s #1 now. They deserve it.
Breaking News: The Saints are pretty good
October 18th, 20092:44 pm
Yeah, they’re making the Giants look baaaaaad. Like horribly bad. I should’ve started Carson.
Mid Town Joe
October 18th, 20092:45 pm
Crocking two Boston Butts this afternoon. Good BBQ tonight! After draining the grease and pulling the pork, simmer the last two hours in Dales and Bulls Eye sauce. (secret recipe)
October 18th, 20092:46 pm
trade lowe to the mets
October 18th, 20092:49 pm
Yeah, they (the Saints) really are.
October 18th, 20092:54 pm
Mixxo, whatcha think about the Falcons tonight?
October 18th, 20092:59 pm
Can’t wait! Kinda weird…..a night game in the Dome. Looking forward to it big time. We looked pretty dang good last week, hope it continues.
October 18th, 20093:28 pm
He would you want in return???
October 18th, 20093:40 pm
Okay Dave–any doubts I’ve had about you in the past have been erased. Anyone who appreciates The Avetts is good enough for me. ‘Ain’t it like most people, I’m no different, we love to talk on things we don’t know about”
Oh yeah—get a big bat and keep Kawakami in the pen–I like his stuff in shorter bursts…more effective.
October 18th, 20093:59 pm
…this was a baseball blog where bloggers talked about the Braves?
October 18th, 20094:01 pm
WOW…just caught sight of the new rankings. It amazes me how differently the AP and coaches vote – how a majority of the AP vote for Bama while the coaches vote for Florida
October 18th, 20094:04 pm
Remember when – Read the little blurb right next to DOB’s mug.
Besides, what would you rather talk about today? Chipper Jones’ round of golf and subsequent nap, or the exciting and surprising football games going on this weekend?
October 18th, 20094:05 pm
jeffrey d -
Who cares what Adrian Peterson thinks?
October 18th, 20094:06 pm
He was good, but to give him his own poll?
October 18th, 20094:11 pm
CF – McLouth
SS – Escobar
3B – Jones
LF – Cruz
C – McCann
1B – Laroche
2B – Prado
RF – Heyward 20-10
everybody in baseball raves about what a great improvement moving Prado to the two slot was, so you take him out and waste Esco there? OK
October 18th, 20094:16 pm
Go Ravens (for now)!
October 18th, 20094:20 pm
Or, not. Poor kicker.
Are you kidding me Baltimore?? You come all the way back and miss a field goal to win the game??? ARRGGGHHH!!
October 18th, 20094:22 pm
I feel your pain cab.
October 18th, 20094:23 pm
Or, not. Poor kicker. – Soph
I kinda feel for the kid. Poor guy. Gotta make those.
October 18th, 20094:28 pm
I love snow games! The Patriots game should be fun.

Rock Chalk = more boring “Kansas” crap.
October 18th, 20094:34 pm
Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
P. W. Hjort
October 18th, 20094:35 pm
Eli Manning laid an egg fantasy-wise this week.. I don’t blame the Giants, when you’re losing that bad, you should probably take out the highest paid QB in the league who has been having foot trouble. But damn.
October 18th, 20094:37 pm
wow- that is some serious snow in Boston…it is still October, right??
Eli killed me this week but I don’t feel that bad. It’s not like my other option did much better.
Really glad I didn’t start Eli today…
October 18th, 20094:38 pm
I thought it would be a shoot out…
October 18th, 20094:43 pm
Not sure what I was expecting, but it certainly was not <i<that
Mixxo, you better protect your precious pumpkin. It may “disappear”.
October 18th, 20094:51 pm
If that involves kissing some “Kansas alum hiney”……..let him do what he’s gotta do.
I don’t bow down to young punks.
October 18th, 20094:59 pm
Nolie – Escobar has a higher on base % therefore he should hit higher in the lineup.
October 18th, 20095:25 pm
I love Eli. He’s my favorite QB in the NFL. But with the Giants being careful he’s just not a great fantasy option right now.
I waited until the 8th round to draft him and it’s worked out great for me so far.
October 18th, 20095:34 pm
I see the Pats are wearing the throwbacks again. Not that I don’t like them, they just seem to wear them a lot.
October 18th, 20095:35 pm
And the refs are wearing Auburn uniforms?
October 18th, 20095:44 pm
I like Wes Welker.
The “new” Fred Biletnikoff!
October 18th, 20095:53 pm
5 TDs in one quarter for Brady. I think Matt Ryan has 7 this season
October 18th, 20095:57 pm
I like Welker too.
Brady’s going crazy but I think he’s done for the day. If not, the Pats are stupid.
October 18th, 20095:59 pm
Just ask Tebow what can happen when you’re in late in a blowout.
October 18th, 20096:01 pm
Exactly. Plus add snow – time to sit down. I’m surprised they kept throwing the ball in the 2nd qtr.
October 18th, 20096:02 pm
Soph, he’s just plain……….good.
No dancing in the endzone.
My kind of player.
October 18th, 20096:04 pm
Me too…I like Brady.
October 18th, 20096:05 pm
Soph ………….. Here’s to a big oomeback
oo me back: What Jay Cutler will be saying tonight, after John Abraham gets through with him.
October 18th, 20096:06 pm
i like dancing in the endzone though.
Chad Johnson…he’s a master at it.
Now here’s a funny game recap.
The game was halted about 8 minutes when Pini Gershon continued to linger near Maccabi’s bench – a delay that included a rabbi trying to intervene by asking the NBA’s replacement referees calling the game to allow Gershon to stay.
October 18th, 20096:07 pm
LMAO Bat. I love it.
October 18th, 20096:11 pm
I can’t believe they sent Brady out there in the second half.
October 18th, 20096:13 pm
Rock Chalk Tarheels!
And, I really can’t believe they’re still throwing the ball.
October 18th, 20096:15 pm
Thanks, Soph, nice set up. When do the Titans say, the hell with it, and start making snow angels?
October 18th, 20096:17 pm
Forget snow angels – I’d start throwing snowballs at Brady and Belichick. Another td for Brady?!
October 18th, 20096:20 pm
He missed all of last year, maybe he needs the work.
October 18th, 20096:24 pm
The Falcons would appreciate your support vs. the Bears tonight.
October 18th, 20096:28 pm
My God, Soph, the Saints. And the Falcons have to play those guys, twice. I hope they bring the offense tonight, they showed last week. No offense, cabravesfan.
Mets 4 Life
October 18th, 20096:32 pm
Holliday, Halladay, and your boy Soriano are gonna be a Mets:
October 18th, 20096:33 pm
Seeing as how I picked them in my pool and Matt Ryan is my fantasy QB, it is safe to say I would like to see the Falcons win tonight
October 18th, 20096:34 pm
Whatever do you mean? I have no recollection of which game you are referring to
October 18th, 20096:35 pm
Bat – I know! It’s Brees – he’s having a fantastic year so far. I’m looking forward to playing them though.
October 18th, 20096:37 pm
cabravesfan lol, you have a closer’s mentality.
October 18th, 20096:38 pm
Yay, cab! Good pick & hopefully my boy Matty will get you 4 td’s with 350 yards.
October 18th, 20096:40 pm
Soph, I’m not ready to say they can hang with them on offense yet, but I think they are getting there. Should learn something about that tonight.
October 18th, 20096:41 pm
Mets 4 Life
We’ll be more than happy to take your 2nd round draft pick for Soriano. Enjoy him. Of all teams, you know how frustrating it is to have injury-prone relievers, so I’m sure Soriano will fit right in.
October 18th, 20096:42 pm
It also doesn’t hurt that my boss is a huge Bears fan and I always enjoy poking fun at her when they lose
October 18th, 20096:43 pm
Holliday, Halladay, and your boy Soriano are gonna be a Mets
Whoa, that’s a lot of money. I’m with Hjort though, you can have Soriano and we’ll take that draft pick.
October 18th, 20096:45 pm
Escobar has a higher on base % therefore he should hit higher in the lineup. 20-10
there is more to batting second than OBP. Esco did it before and the lineup was not as productive as it was when Prado was there.
Steve from OH
October 18th, 20096:46 pm
Hey Mets4life, if Bryce Harper drops to the Mets, which college reliever do you think Omar will take in the draft?
October 18th, 20096:49 pm
Bat Masterson -
cabravesfan’s sporting a goatee?
….and a big butt?
October 18th, 20096:52 pm
WHAT?? I have a big butt???
October 18th, 20096:54 pm
Steal his pumpkin, cab. Steal it and destroy it.
October 18th, 20096:57 pm
LOL, Steve. I saw that in some chat and thought it was hilarious.
October 18th, 20096:59 pm
I’d rather have a goatee and a big butt then risk even touching that thing
October 18th, 20097:06 pm
WHAT?? I have a big butt??? – cabravesfan
I was just askin’ It’s a “closer” thing……..menacing facial hair too.
October 18th, 20097:07 pm
Big butts? Goatees? I leave for an hour and this is what we’re talking about now?
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
