Sad to see that Boog Sciambi is leaving the Braves, but congratulations to him on his full-time job at ESPN! Great move for him. Hopefully he can replace Stuart Scott’s “boo-yow!”
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH – BOOG is leaving. Get us some “homer” to replace him. I want someone that cares whether the Braves win or lose. ESPN is exactly where he belongs….. he could care less about the Braves and bores me with his unrelated facts.
He’ll have Jeff Bennett pitch to Greg Norton and the universe will explode.
Who wins?”"
The answer is nobody.
Because it’s impossible for a pitcher to give-up a homer, and a hitter strike-out, on the same pitch, there’s a new theory called the “Bennett/Norton Paradox.” If the Bennett/Norton showdown were to ever take place, the first pitch and swing would create so much bad karma that Turner Field would explode/implode into a black-hole, sucking the earth and inhabitants asunder.
Did’aliddle quantum psycho-physics to come-up with all’iss.. Y’all can thank me later…
My problem with Georgia’s chances tomorrow is that in recent years, UGA has fallen flat in big games at home. Alabama and Tech last year, UT the year before that (and in 2004), Auburn in 2005, etc.
But, they are good on the road.
Two years ago, they beat Bama in Tuscaloosa, and then got slaughtered by them last year.
Also last year, they smacked LSU around in Baton Rouge . . . gives me bad feelings about tomorrow.
I hope I’m wrong.
After watching Kentucky get slaughtered by Alabama, I’ll be looking for my other alma mater to do something to at least make me feel like I haven’t wasted 7 hours come 6:00 CDT.
I will also miss Boog very much. Boog and Joe were a great team and they really seemed to get along well. It seemed real not forced or contrived like it did when Joe worked with Dip Caray. I am begging the braves not to replace Boog with Dip. That would be awful.
On many occasions when Joe worked with Dip I thought he was going to reach accross the booth and slap him around. Joe was constantly correcting him. Dip is a doofus.
I would expect Bennett to strike Norton out, only to have the ball squirt away, and Norton reach base on the passed ball; however, it wouldn’t matter, because Diaz would get picked off third; only, Bennett wouldn’t see it because he would break his toe, kicking the pitching rubber.
Jurrjens4NLCY, I do most of my Twins chatting on KFAN Rube Chat (not a Twins board per se, but a MN sports board). The Twins are my team, but I started following the Braves closely this year once they signed Kenshin. (I’m also a Chunichi fan, as I lived near Nagoya for a year and a half, so I keep tabs on how Fukudome and Kawkami are doing.)
I remember at the start of the season I was anticipating so many unrealistic seasons. Kelly Johnson hitting 330 with 25 homers and 50 doubles…LOL……Jeff Franceour hitting 270 with 20 homers and 90 RBI’s……Greg Norton hitting over 200…….Jeff Bennet with a 3.30 ERA and 15 holds…….Jordan Schafer hitting 270 with 9 homers and 25 SB…….And Chipper hitting 320, with 25 homers and 100RBI’s
Joe Simpson is a color commentator, not a play-by-play man. Gant will likely never do play-by-play.
Yes, I realize that sometimes people change roles; but, I don’t think that Simpson will be given the difficult task of doing play-by-play, while a rookie gets color duties. I just can’t see it.
Fox will probably go out and try to get someone decent to do play-by-play for the Braves, and Joe Simpson will remain in his current role.
“I’m going to miss it a ton,” Jon Sciambi said. “The first thing when I think of fun I think of working with Joe (Simpson). It’s as good of an experience as I’ve had professionally. I can honestly say I hope I get to do this for a long, long time, but I don’t think I’ll ever have the chemistry that I had with him. It worked great. I looked forward to seeing him every day. I looked forward to working with him every day. And we had fun every day.”
about the new job at ESPN
“I’m excited,” Sciambi said. “It’s a cool opportunity to be with ESPN and do big games. It was a really hard decision because I really loved my time here and everybody welcomed me from the start. Fans are awesome. It’s funny, the Braves organization has a reputation for being one of the classiest in the game. And it lived up to every word you hear.”
How many people who give a BLANK about high school football(And I’m excluding recruiting) actually went to college? Derek Lowe had lots to say after his start. Usually a self-deprecating guy. He was that and more tonight…..Have a look:
“This pretty much sums it up right here,” Lowe said of his start. “This kinda how it’s been for three months and just really don’t know where I went wrong. I got into so many bad habits, as far as mechanics. I put a lot of time and effort to try to correct it. It just seemed like it was never there. I had another 100-pitch, five-inning stint, not even. Disappointing. And when you end this way, there’s a friend of mine down there (in Ft. Myers, Fla.) that I’ve worked with before. We’ll probably continue to work on things starting Wednesday. Not necessarily throwing, but you don’t want to sit on two months’ worth of this. You want to, when you get back throwing in January, have it all figured out. So it’ll be a lot of video-watching and trying to repeat what you need to do.”
Lowe said he’s flying open and when he does hitters can pick up the pitch easily and that’s why they’re squaring so many balls.
“It was frightening how bad I’ve gotten as far as mechanically,” Lowe said. “I don’t know where or what game took it to the turn for the worst…but there’s a serious deception problem and today again, what was evident. How many balls did they square up? That’s kind of been the reoccurring theme.”
And this, on his season overall:
“There were definitely good games thrown in there, but the last three months have just been…” Lowe said. “When you only pitch seven innings a handful of times all year. That’s not good. It’s disappointing. It’s frustrating. But it’s over. I don’t have to go out there and keep banging my head against a wall anymore this year. Really come back next year with different stuff and be more competitive.”
That’s a wrap for me on this game, and on this season.
I’m sure I’ll be around some in the winter too, but I just wanted to say thanks for your company this year. You’ve given me story ideas, you’ve kept me on my toes (with the lineup as much as anything!! ha), and you’ve given me moral support too, for my marathon. Thanks y’all! (except those who had no faith in me on the Greg Norton thing. If I could spell spitting out my tongue, that’s what I’d be doing here……)
This blog is solid as ever, thanks to all DOB’s hard work and all the time and energy you guys put into it. It’s going to help me keep doing what I love to do, so for that I’m extremely grateful.
You mentioned that maybe the Braves can find a taker for Lowe. Unfortunately, his value has probably gone down based on the way he has finished the season. I wonder if a team would want a guy from the National League who had almost 5 ERA, but will make $45 mil over 3 years.
Frank Wren has his work cut out for him, because the Braves also need a closer. Soriano is 1-6 with a 3.05 ERA, and 4 blown saves. (Although he might have been more effective if Bobby cut down on his non-save appearances).

When announcers are picked, they places two types of guys together.
The first guy is an ex player and analyst. (Joe Simpson, Ron Gant, etc.)
The second guy is an actual commentator, someone who is paid because they are good at talking, a play by play guy. (Skip Caray, Chip Caray, Boog)
So Ron Gant would not be Joe’s partner…

Dunn is Horrible defensively…
I Think Part of it has to do with the fact the he was a Football Player when he was in College for the most part
“He came up as a 3rd/1st baseman in the minors, his defense was so bad they moved him to the OF…
And now that N. Johnson is injured he’s at first again”
Well, yeah, that and the fact that two months ago Johnson was TRADED TO THE MARLINS!
