I don’t think the Braves will not be any better next year than this. Cox doesn’t inspire his players to give their best all the time, that’s why every player in baseball wants to play for him. Chipper will steal another $16M, and Cox will still leave him in the #3 position to stop rally’s. At least two of their starters will be .500 pitches, and they still have no closer. No new blood in the starting line up, first base will need a player, again, and the middle relief want actually relieve anything.
October 2nd, 20098:42 pm
Well he was pretty good in the first half. Didn’t he run out of gas in the second half of this season. Did DOB say it might be possible to have someone take LOWE? That doesn’t sound very realistic, and Mr. O’B. is a realist if he’s anything.
October 2nd, 20098:43 pm
That last guy writes with double negatives “don’t think” and “will not be”, but I got the point.
October 2nd, 20098:45 pm
Capt Caveman Yes it was a cut & paste. Sorry for your disapproval, just trying to give some info without having to retype it all. If you dont like it dont read it. By the way kiss my a#%.
October 2nd, 20098:46 pm
Well this is sad!
Derek Lowe needs to go…
October 2nd, 20098:47 pm
Thinking back to the beginning of the season, Lowe throws a 8 inning shut out against the Phils, Jordan Schafer hits a Homer and the Braves win 4-1, now look at Lowe, down 4-2 to in the 4th to a team that lost over 100 games, aint life grand!!
October 2nd, 20098:48 pm
Wheres the terrible defense???
Did you? EXACTLY!!!!! LOL!!!!!
mcfanny ….. temper, temper………LOL
October 2nd, 20098:49 pm
That;s a forbidding prospect, given your handle.
October 2nd, 20098:50 pm
Capt Caveman… Didn’t catch the sarcasm, but I do now.
Got my 2 homers yet? No? Well Sheeee-it. Almost huntin’ season though…
The A Bomb
October 2nd, 20098:51 pm
Can’t believe Lowe is 7-2 since the All-Star Break. He’s been throwing batting practice lately and righthanded batters are KILLING him in the second half.
It would be shocking if another team took a flier and this guy’s ridiculous contract.
October 2nd, 20098:52 pm
Funny u asked that…But No, I got off Facebook an hour ago…I’m watching Beavis and Butthead on youtube and watching the game while I’m typing this…
Add to that I’m drinking Samuel Jackson beer rite now
Chip got his 2 homers yet? No? Well, who gives a crap…after all, everyone knows how to hit already, so I don’t have to do a dang thing, right?
October 2nd, 20098:53 pm
Against a AAA team, Lowe hasn’t earned his money tonight…
October 2nd, 20098:54 pm
If CHIP has any chance of getting to 20 this year, it will be against HERNANDEZ.
October 2nd, 20098:55 pm
Mine is SHINER BOCK
Where are the trolls that says he has bad defense???
October 2nd, 20098:56 pm
HEY HEY WATCH IT NATE!!
Its not even our second date!!
Nate-Dawg with the old A. Jones Flashback! Nice!
October 2nd, 20098:57 pm
Hey CHIP! Maybe you can get NORTON to help you with your “swing”! Haw-haw!
October 2nd, 20098:59 pm
If Wren can get some team to take this guy’s contract he is already the 2010 MLB Executive of the Year.
It’s tough when your best outing of the year was your first outing of the year.
October 2nd, 20099:00 pm
No temper here! If i had a temper I would have said to kiss my FAT azz. sarcasm:)
October 2nd, 20099:01 pm
Man! The braves have laid an egg over the last 5 days, Cheesewhiz…!
Ya see, Chipper, you gotta keep your EYE on the ball, understand? Swing THROUGH the ball, make CONTACT, ya know? Don’t worry, dude, I’ll guide you through it.
October 2nd, 20099:02 pm
(ya know, Chipper could shut me and all the other dopplegangers up just by simply getting a freakin HIT)
October 2nd, 20099:03 pm
I’m at the game. Did Lowe look as bad on TV as he did in person? Wow he had nothing.
Seriously ehy would anyone want to waste money this weekend watching the AAA Nats beat us over and over…? Especially when the games are meaningless…?
Come On Med’s!
The Abs Man
October 2nd, 20099:04 pm
Has anybody this season seen a worse defensive player than Garret Anderson?
He doesn’t hustle, has a throwing arm a little-league girl would be ashamed of, plus has all the foot speed of a dead man.
What a rat. Get him some cheese.
October 2nd, 20099:07 pm
Have we ever had a worst LF than Anderson. Should of signed Dunn instead GA and KK.
Worse Defensive players than Loaf
I got 3! Johnny Damon, Juan Pierrw, and Manny!
Wow, just wow. Lowe’s been all over the place tonight. If he had stayed tight MEALS might have cut him some slack. Then again, it is JERRY “TEE-BALL” MEALS.
Martin is a hittin machine.
My only request is to no matter what keep Vazquez, who has been our ace this year, to even think about shopping him is ridiculous, this team is fine now offensively without French, Shaffer Johnson and would have made the playoffs if we only knew that back in March.
And Pat Burrell and Adam Dunn to that list as well
The sad thing isn’t the fact that the Nats scored 6 runs of our ACE, no no. Its the fact that the Braves awfense only scored 2 runs off Cy Hernadez!
October 2nd, 20099:09 pm
You were spot on with your assessment off what I was lookin’ at.
Wow Chipper has the Fall-Back Player of the year honors wrapped up…
If he has a 25-100 season we’d be talking about playoffs next week…
Way to go leader!
The saddest fact is Bobby back in 2010.
The named and numbers will change, but you can bet Bobby’s biggest boogie there will be more Jeff Bennetts, Garret Andersons, Greg Norton, et al,,,
October 2nd, 20099:10 pm
OK, Chipper, we give up…you’ve taken all the fun out of mockery, you have become such a freakin ZERO that you’re no longer worth the effort. Just RETIRE already!
October 2nd, 20099:11 pm
Who is in left field next year?
I was banking on Cy Hernandez Showing up against us…We are Notorious for making struggling pitchers look dominant
I have always had no love for this Livan since he killed us in 1997…
I literally think you could put a parking meter in left field and it would cover as much ground as Garret….show same speed, equal interest.
At least you’d make a few rolls of quarters….
October 2nd, 20099:13 pm
the Abs Man.
Bobby is a good manager, a hall of fame manager. He’s a great players manager too, but sometimes he screws up with tactical managing…
If I was at the Ted…I would’ve already left for the clubs at Underground ATL or the Velvet Room…This game has been a snorefest…
October 2nd, 20099:14 pm
Cy Hernandez or Babe Hernandez???
Hernandez threw a 62 mph frisbee in the 3rd inning. My 8 year son asked if he can throw that hard? I told him I’m not sure.
October 2nd, 20099:15 pm
Just read that Boog won’t be back. That is sad. I liked him.
October 2nd, 20099:16 pm
Sheesh…poor bravesgrl4life…she’s gotta be AT this game.
Keylargo That is sad.
As Boog himself would say, “Yeah it is.”
October 2nd, 20099:21 pm
It was on the Braves page of AJC

That sucks! I’m going to miss him SO much!
So, who is going to replace him?
October 2nd, 20099:28 pm
Amazing in this day and age to think the Braves have three starting pitchers with ERAs under 3.00…..And as someone in the press box just pointed out – aren’t going to the playoffs.
Hey good people: I made it clear I never heard the Uggla rumor, only someone asking me about it here on the blog. In this Internet/blog era, that’s how a lot of totally bogus rumors get started — people just speculating, or repeating something they heard in a chat room or maybe just made up themselves to see how far it could go.
Anyway, as I said, I hadn’t heard anything of it, still haven’t. And it makes no sense because 2B no longer appears to be a Braves need (Prado) and because Uggla is bad defensively, something that wouldn’t fly on a Braves team with a lot of groundball pitchers. Infield defense has always been important to them, but never more than when they’ve got a team built around good, young starting pitchers who they’re preaching to to let their defense work behind them, etc.
Jurrjens4NLCY no mention of that yet….
October 2nd, 20099:32 pm
Thanks Carroll, for all you’ve done this season.
October 2nd, 20099:33 pm
I’m glad for Boog hope he does well
October 2nd, 20099:34 pm
This sucks. Good luck Boog were going to miss you big guy!!!
October 2nd, 20099:37 pm
What if its…
Chi -… Chi -…
There’s a blurb in the October Chop Talk about Uggla being available but he’s making 5.5 million and due arbitration, terrible defensively, and strikes out a ton and that the braves wouldn’t be interested. Of course print magazines are old news by the time they arrive in your mailbox but that sounds about right to me.
October 2nd, 20099:39 pm
Gotta wonder if thats the last time we will see KJ in a Braves uni.
October 2nd, 20099:40 pm
Boog is one of those commentators who does well anywell he goes…!
What blows is I only got to hear him for a year and a 1/2
Damn! Nevermind That Chick Looks Goooood!!!!!!
October 2nd, 20099:41 pm
This this will be KJ’s Last week in a braves uni, “Bank On It!”…
October 2nd, 20099:42 pm
Francoeur .281, 15 HR, 76 RBI is better than half our starting lineup. Ya gotta wonder when Pendleton will be fired.
October 2nd, 20099:43 pm
I love MLB.TV just because of Joe and Boog…
You get to hear the things they say when they go to commercial…
Oops….just trying to type that Ryan Church and his wife Tina had a baby girl Madison Noel this afternoon. She weighed in at 6 pounds, 11 oz. They have a boy and a girl now….
October 2nd, 20099:44 pm
Why Don’t they play the old braves Chop song more…?
I like the old one better it’s better for baseball than the Criminoles version
Thanks Jurrjens4NLCY. Real nice of you to say.
October 2nd, 20099:45 pm
You think Ryan Church comes back? I like him, He is the perfect “platoon mate” for Diaz…
The more I think about it, the Braves shouldn\’t resign LaRoche. Trade KK AND Lowe (Insert Medlen and resign Hudson). Let Soriano walk and resign Gonzo. Sign Russell Branyan and Xavier Nady (both will be cheap). Non-tender KJ and Church (the guy is worthless) and let GA retire (nobody will want him, hes done) and sign another bullpen arm. They still won\’t be any good next year. They can\’t win with Chipper and Cox.
It’s about time the fans get into it…I mean, for real…?
October 2nd, 20099:46 pm
I KNOW! It sounds like a ringtone!
October 2nd, 20099:47 pm
If Francoeur played in the steroid era… I’d day he’d be around 35-110…
Man, why do you Braves fans want to ruin my trip to MN next summer? The whole reason I want to see Twins/Braves is to see my team face Kenshin.
If Chipper retired (he should) and another team took Lowe off our hands we could sign Bay AND Holliday.
October 2nd, 20099:48 pm
Gotta wonder if hope thats the last time we will see KJ in a Braves uni.
October 2nd, 20099:49 pm
Nick -Sounds like you just need to find a new team to be a “fan” of.
RHR -LOL, nicely done. I agree completely.
October 2nd, 20099:50 pm
Congrats to Churchy and Mrs. Churchy on their newest addition.
October 2nd, 20099:51 pm
I disagree with ya on that though, I will always be a Braves fan. I couldn\’t imagine rooting for anybody else. I am just disappointed in their play the last 4 years. I guess I was spoiled growing up with them winning every year.
October 2nd, 20099:52 pm
LaRoche is playing himself out of a contract next year, with us anyway.
October 2nd, 20099:53 pm
Aww, look at LaRoche!
When Macs outta the lineup, he trys to hit like him!
Now thats love!
THIS is why I wanted no part of 2nd place. The Marlins announcers are acting like they are the 27 Yankees. CRAZINESS!!
Boog is gone??
I wonder if that Pete Rose Ballpark Cafe in Boca Raton is still open??
October 2nd, 20099:54 pm
DOB or Carroll, I realize anything can change at any moment in the trade market, and if somebody becomes available that Wren would desire. But is it your (both of you), opinion/belief that Wren will go into next season with Prado as the everyday 2B? And if so, is Bobby cool with that?
I’m cool with it. He probably won’t win a GG anytime soon, but he hasn’t been horrible either, certainly there are certainly worse sticks out there, and based on his cost, he’s a bargain. Plus, if some more power developes, he might be a legitmate, and worst case scenario “stop gap” 3B in the even that Chipper hangs it up sooner than later.
The only reason I ask is that I saw Jason Stark at ESPN and Rosenthal mention 2B as an area of need for the Braves? Which means either one of two things. They’ve got “inside info” (which of course you guys would have as well), stating that Wren/Cox aren’t OK with that scenario of Prado being the starter next year. Or they just really haven’t paid any real attention to how good he’s be since taking over, and are still basing that opinion on KJ’s poor start….. over 4 months ago.
In the NL here are his rankings among other 2B in each category:
Doubles (2nd), BA (4th), OBP (7th), SLG (3rd), OPS (3rd), HR (5th), Hits (10th), and his hit total is one behind Uggla, and their SLG/OPS is damn near equal. Uggla made 5.3 million this year. Granted Ugla had 31 HR, but Prado had more doubles and as I stated equal SLG & OPS. Uggla started 154 games. Prado started 103 games.
In all of MLB among 2B, here are Prado’s rankings:
Doubles (8th), BA (4th), OBP (9th), SLG (7th), OPS (6th), HR (12th), Hits (18th), RBI (17th).
Like I said, the HR, Hits & RBI would be higher, but he started, slightly less than 2/3 of the 162 games this year. The guys at the top of the “accumulated” stats, and not percentage based stats, all started more than 143 games.
Seems to me, that offensively the Braves are in the upper third of all of MLB with their production from 2B since Prado took over. And they got that production for 415K last year.
But I’m not telling either of you guys anything new.
Ryan Church’s offseason workout regimen didn’t help his back.
Awww, Boog’s leaving? I really like him. FSN, pre-Boog & Joe was horrible. Rathbun/Torborg/that crazy guy whose name I can’t think of…*shudder*.
Russel will sign with Seattle, and Nady won’t come cheap, he’s a Boras man.
JC form UT
October 2nd, 20099:55 pm
Enter your comments here I missed it. Where is Boog going?
October 2nd, 20099:57 pm
I wish they could trade Lowe away”"
I wish they could give his azz away. He’s dead-wood on an otherwise polished Stradivarius
starting staff. There’d be no team willing to take him and his entire contract even if he were gift-wrapped and strung with miniature Christmas lights.
We’d have to eat half his contract if we GAVE him away! Sounds like a right good deal to me…
October 2nd, 20099:58 pm
Diaz didn’t screw up with bases loaded, he was trying something new for his stand up comedy routine!
Boy am I glad Diaz has a sense of humor, really makes up for his lack of talent…
(No Offense) but I just read your 9:45 post about trading for Russell Branyan, and yada, yada, yada, but get real bro…This isn’t P23 MLB the show…
I honestly don’t think that 5% of those proposals will happen…
And Xavier Nady is a Borasshole client…Fran Wren will shy away from him, “Bank on It!”
“But I do agree about your Chipper and Cox statement”
Gawd I miss the Young/Cocky Chipper!
Holy geez. Meadowcreek lost 62-14 to Brookwood. We should just forfeit each week – why waste everyone’s time?
