I don’t think the Braves will not be any better next year than this. Cox doesn’t inspire his players to give their best all the time, that’s why every player in baseball wants to play for him. Chipper will steal another $16M, and Cox will still leave him in the #3 position to stop rally’s. At least two of their starters will be .500 pitches, and they still have no closer. No new blood in the starting line up, first base will need a player, again, and the middle relief want actually relieve anything.

Well he was pretty good in the first half. Didn’t he run out of gas in the second half of this season. Did DOB say it might be possible to have someone take LOWE? That doesn’t sound very realistic, and Mr. O’B. is a realist if he’s anything.

Thinking back to the beginning of the season, Lowe throws a 8 inning shut out against the Phils, Jordan Schafer hits a Homer and the Braves win 4-1, now look at Lowe, down 4-2 to in the 4th to a team that lost over 100 games, aint life grand!!

Can’t believe Lowe is 7-2 since the All-Star Break. He’s been throwing batting practice lately and righthanded batters are KILLING him in the second half.

Hey good people: I made it clear I never heard the Uggla rumor, only someone asking me about it here on the blog. In this Internet/blog era, that’s how a lot of totally bogus rumors get started — people just speculating, or repeating something they heard in a chat room or maybe just made up themselves to see how far it could go.
Anyway, as I said, I hadn’t heard anything of it, still haven’t. And it makes no sense because 2B no longer appears to be a Braves need (Prado) and because Uggla is bad defensively, something that wouldn’t fly on a Braves team with a lot of groundball pitchers. Infield defense has always been important to them, but never more than when they’ve got a team built around good, young starting pitchers who they’re preaching to to let their defense work behind them, etc.

There’s a blurb in the October Chop Talk about Uggla being available but he’s making 5.5 million and due arbitration, terrible defensively, and strikes out a ton and that the braves wouldn’t be interested. Of course print magazines are old news by the time they arrive in your mailbox but that sounds about right to me.

The more I think about it, the Braves shouldn\’t resign LaRoche. Trade KK AND Lowe (Insert Medlen and resign Hudson). Let Soriano walk and resign Gonzo. Sign Russell Branyan and Xavier Nady (both will be cheap). Non-tender KJ and Church (the guy is worthless) and let GA retire (nobody will want him, hes done) and sign another bullpen arm. They still won\’t be any good next year. They can\’t win with Chipper and Cox.

DOB or Carroll, I realize anything can change at any moment in the trade market, and if somebody becomes available that Wren would desire. But is it your (both of you), opinion/belief that Wren will go into next season with Prado as the everyday 2B? And if so, is Bobby cool with that?
I’m cool with it. He probably won’t win a GG anytime soon, but he hasn’t been horrible either, certainly there are certainly worse sticks out there, and based on his cost, he’s a bargain. Plus, if some more power developes, he might be a legitmate, and worst case scenario “stop gap” 3B in the even that Chipper hangs it up sooner than later.
The only reason I ask is that I saw Jason Stark at ESPN and Rosenthal mention 2B as an area of need for the Braves? Which means either one of two things. They’ve got “inside info” (which of course you guys would have as well), stating that Wren/Cox aren’t OK with that scenario of Prado being the starter next year. Or they just really haven’t paid any real attention to how good he’s be since taking over, and are still basing that opinion on KJ’s poor start….. over 4 months ago.
In the NL here are his rankings among other 2B in each category:
Doubles (2nd), BA (4th), OBP (7th), SLG (3rd), OPS (3rd), HR (5th), Hits (10th), and his hit total is one behind Uggla, and their SLG/OPS is damn near equal. Uggla made 5.3 million this year. Granted Ugla had 31 HR, but Prado had more doubles and as I stated equal SLG & OPS. Uggla started 154 games. Prado started 103 games.
In all of MLB among 2B, here are Prado’s rankings:
Doubles (8th), BA (4th), OBP (9th), SLG (7th), OPS (6th), HR (12th), Hits (18th), RBI (17th).
Like I said, the HR, Hits & RBI would be higher, but he started, slightly less than 2/3 of the 162 games this year. The guys at the top of the “accumulated” stats, and not percentage based stats, all started more than 143 games.
Seems to me, that offensively the Braves are in the upper third of all of MLB with their production from 2B since Prado took over. And they got that production for 415K last year.
But I’m not telling either of you guys anything new.
