Leave him in Bobby…he’s doing great, just great.
What a day for Maxwell: Four strikeouts and three walks in seven plate appearances.
October 4th, 20095:20 pm
Manny is a big tease
well, Manny got out of that
October 4th, 20095:21 pm
The 402 crew had the organist’s choice for Ian Desmond right yesterday: Brubeck’s “Take Five” featured Paul Desmond on alto sax.
Bring Me the Head of Deforest Kelley
Once again, the Braves show their schizophrenia. Pull to within 2 games of the wildcard lead last week, now on the verge of losing their sixth straight. Everyone seemed to be writing them in stone as a playoff-contending team for 2010 after last week, but sure doesn’t look that way now.
The postseason is still many years away from this group.
October 4th, 20095:22 pm
maybe braves can make this “team that leaves the bases loaded and doesn’t score, the other team usually does” thing come true
Manny just made his bid to close for the Braves next season. Of course, he got himself into his own jam.
DeForest Kelly, LOL! And Larry Storch my shorts!
October 4th, 20095:23 pm
Thanks for the link. Sounds like he is OK age wise.
Bring Me the Head of Deforest Kelley… Hey, Bones, pop a beer and relax, man.
Looks like I need to teach these boys how to score.
October 4th, 20095:24 pm
Well there will be a playoff game for the Al central. 87 wins will be enough to get one of those teams in the playoffs. But hey, 87 wins will be a big improvement for the braves over last year, if they ever decide to win it…
Jeff R –
Manny Acosta is bad. He shouldn’t be our closer.
Can we please make it count this time? I need to go make dinner and do some stuff for my Monday night ministry. I’m starting to wonder if I’ll be going to bed before this one is done.
October 4th, 20095:25 pm
Escobar will end season at .2992 if he doesn’t bat again. That’s .299. One hit from .300….
Sounds like he is OK age wise.
Hey, since it was Fan Appreciation Weekend and everything, woulda been a perfect time for BMac to hit a double for me…us.
This is our Sunday Night Ministry!
nice one kelly
October 4th, 20095:26 pm
This is so agitating…
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
DOB, at this rate, Esco should get at least two more ABs.
A technical question……..if they keep playing until next spring, do we get a chance to trade or release some of our trash even if they are in uniform?
This game really is never going to end.
Onto the 15th! Well, we didn’t want the season to end, so here we go.
Jimmy Joe… Manny is super. See how he worked his way out of his own jam! How much more exciting 9th innings will be next season with Manny on the mound.
October 4th, 20095:27 pm
gonna run out of players soon
TnBrian(Vazquez ace 2010)
That DP from Kelly was definitely not DP to chesty! For you Dave O’!
Bobby: “bunt in the bottom of the inning with a runner at first and no outs in a tie game! You’re joking right?”
Doc, since they still won’t be on base then I say yes we can trade or release them
Soph Well, we didn’t want the season to end, so here we go.
Yeah, but BMac’s can’t be used anymore, so what good does this do me?
If we make it to the 16th inning, I think it would be appropriate to bring out the circus music. It’s been a while since we’ve heard that.
October 4th, 20095:28 pm
Kelly Johnson, say this three times fast: nontender, nontender, nontender.
What are the provisions for letting a game end in a tie?
If the Braves/gNats don’t get this thing done before CCR is baked, would they call it? There is really no need to play this thing out, except maybe for the extra cash that Braves might get if they tie the Fish.
October 4th, 20095:29 pm
Braves offensive #’s going down faster than lentz backstage at a queen concert
Can the players who have been used and are out of the game leave for vacation now?
This needs to go 18 innings. A double header in one game. What a bonus for Braves’ fans.
Logan, Nunez, Carlyle .. still a lot of potential fail left in the bullpen
October 4th, 20095:30 pm
I am sure the CCR band has its own private jet, so they can wait interminably …
October 4th, 20095:31 pm
Boone Logan, a lights out kinda guy.
Yeah, but BMac’s can’t be used anymore, so what good does this do me?
Awww, sorry McFann. It’s a sacrifice we had to make…
Bobby Jenks might be available. Lowe for Jenks? COME ON, trying to be positive here.
October 4th, 20095:32 pm
Trot Norton to the mound. He’s hanging up his cletes at the end of the seaon, in all likelihood. Let him go out pitching.
I know the Braves didn’t want their season to end onn Oct. 4, but this is getting ridiculous….
Jim (October 4th, 2009 1:31 pm): “Once again… being realistic, the Braves have no chance next year. Sure, they might be able to make the playoffs or with luck win the division. But no chance at legitimately making a run for a championship.”
Nope, your assumption is not “realistic” — it’s flat out wrong.
Once a team gets into the MLB playoffs these days, anything can happen — it’s a crapshoot, especially in the short series.
Three of the past seven World Champions were Wild Card entries (02, 03, 04).
When baseball added the Wild Card in 1995, the World Series winner has been the Wild Card 4 times, and also the loser 5 times. That means 33% of the time the Wild Card has kept playing until the end.
By contrast having the best record in baseball has only produced 3 champions and 2 runners up in the same time frame.
2006 83-78 Cards = World Champs.
And if this season’s Braves had made it to the playoffs, their starting rotation would have probably made them favorites to represent the NL in this year’s WS.
October 4th, 20095:33 pm
I see a bad moon rising…
October 4th, 20095:34 pm
I know our relievers have high appearance totals. Moylan, Gonzo, and EOF with the highest I think. Are they waiting for Gonzo to get his total up?
October 4th, 20095:36 pm
Paisan: You’re sure the John Fogerty-less CCR has its own plane? I’m not.
Loaf on a blackberry on the way back to Cali
Like LL says… Going back to Cali! Heading back home with a FAT wallet, BABY!
Should I send Mahony in for the bottom of the 15th?
Mid Town Joe
October 4th, 20095:37 pm
I smell a rain delay!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Willy and the poorboys are playin;
Bring a nickel; tap your feet.”
Without John Fogerty, it ain’t really CCR.
Finally! A run!
DOB — purely tongue-in-cheek. John Fogerty WAS CCR.
Uh..oh — we are down!
October 4th, 20095:38 pm
Doubles? We don’t need no steenkin doubles!
Wake up CCRevisited. Time to get warmed up, boys.
October 4th, 20095:39 pm
We were 86-70, two games back of the wild card and didn’t win a game the rest of the season. I know it’s not that big of a deal, but I think it is.
Boone just earned himself throw-in status in an offseason trade. Should of left Manny in.
October 4th, 20095:40 pm
I guess Bobby knew what he was doing all along not using Acost-us & Logan. They’ve cost us two games in a row & they can’t be tired.
Thanks…but we didn’t HAVE to make it.
Thought he had that double, too…
October 4th, 20095:41 pm
Detroilet and Twinkees have a one game playoff (same record as Braves)
Congrats to Kelly on the baby!
McFann, you should go to Mexico next month…
Let’s not give up yet; this thing can still go 18, 19, why, even 20 innings.
October 4th, 20095:42 pm
hmmm, Mexico? I can do Mexico
I repeat, 86-70 and two games back of the wild card.
October 4th, 20095:43 pm
As it stands, Logan (Kensing) wins and (Boone) Logan loses.
Up to Nate or Omar. One dingedr ties it up.
I know I’ll get pasted for this but what the he.. Our beloved Braves need to have a serious chat with both Chipper and Lowe. Chipper, unless he turns it around in SP and in the early season should be encouraged to accept a promotion up to the front office. He seems to be plenty baseball savvy and generally intelligent. He could be both a PR asset and useful in club operations, both at the minor league level and with the major league team. Maybe he would accept a 30 year contract which absorbed some or all of his current contract obligation over a very long period of time.
Lowe, who knows.. With his history of wins and innings eating, maybe there are a few clubs who would take him with the Braves eating half his salary. I know, I know, the Braves don’t do that. Well, it’s time to start re-thinking some of those “Braves policies” which may be doing more harm than good by restricting options. I’d include dumping the no “no trade clause” as well if it might mean acquiring talent that wouldn’t be available otherwise.
Removing Chipper from the field and Lowe from the roster, if it could be done, would free up $25m to bolster the offense which is somewhere between mediocre and dreadful depending on which week or month we are talking about. In addition, offer Hudson a contract extension that included an annual reduction in salary to something like 8M, saving the Braves an additional 4-5M per year.
This 30M would enable the Braves to re-sign LaRoche and sign/trade for AT LEAST one slugging outfielder outfielder (Bay, Holliday, Braun come to mind) and upgrade 3rd base as well. With Heyward on the verge of making the clud, this should make the team a serious post season contender.
Ok, tell me why the Braves can’t, won’t, shouldn’t do the above.
October 4th, 20095:44 pm
at least they’ll finish above .500, it’s a start
We’re going to score.
Where is Mitchell and Lentz? Much misery to be had …
cab – McCann said he’s going on vacay to Mexico in the next few months. Maybe, you and McFann can accidentally run into him over there.
Clear and concise.
October 4th, 20095:45 pm
Pizza just arrived. Time for offense to do the same.
If I had the money…
My man Omar will DO it!
1 more out and the misery of 09 will finally be over
Nate McLouth is average.
October 4th, 20095:46 pm
Noooo. I don’t want to lose the last game. It’s depressing.
October 4th, 20095:47 pm
Omar doesn’t want it to end. Marteen, you shouldn’t either!
Maybe Prado will hit an HR and end this with a win.
October 4th, 20095:48 pm
Were we waiting to see if the Marlins lost so we would know if we needed to lose to finish behind them?
The Ghost of Jimeny Cricket
This losing streak will haunt us.
October 4th, 20095:49 pm
not dead yet
My guys don’t quit!
Marteen! Man, what a plus he has been for us!
My last one of the year, probably:
Down a run, threatening late with 2 outs… Haven’t I read this story before?
October 4th, 2009
not dead yet
just smells that wat
Thank goodness Martin didn’t tie it. Brooks Conrad, the savior of the universe can end it with a single.
Wouldn’t mind seeing Infante-Prado 1-2 in the batting order next year…McLouth needs to be somewhere 6-8
