Funny how Bobby got the Braves to play good baseball long enough to get his 2010 extension then went back to sucking once he signed the deal. (Quisp)

did somebody really post that? Amazing, absolutely amazing what you can read on the ol’ blog.

12 times he failed to get a win when only giving up 2 runs or fewer?????? ARE YOU FRICKING KIDDING ME?? So if he had any run support at all, he could have had 26 wins??

The Braves scored two or fewer runs while Jurrjens was in 20 of 34 starts, and Saturday was the 12th time he failed to get a win while allowing two earned runs or fewer in six innings or more.

That’s disgusting. Poor JJ…should be the top guy for the CY Young Award, but nooooo…

It will be very disappointing if the Braves don’t resign Kotsay, he is a true professional hitter. And this bench would be sweeeeeeet:

Infante
Diaz
Kotsay
Ross

DFA Church and Johnson…

yeah that’s what I figured, but the guy just can’t play D good enough IMO and Diory ain’t all that great on D either and we know Bobby likes D if he can get it. maybe they will pick someone up in a multi-trade? Johnson is prolly too expensive to keep. Hicks has good D and pop but a poor BA and likely not ready either. There will be # 24-25 guys available to sign too during the winter. Lot’s of questions IMO, though a solid starting pitching base at least.

Just got home from the game. What a bummer. JJ was beautiful as usual. Also, in person that hit from Greg Norton was thrilling (probably because how few and far between those have been). Some great pizza down there too (Steve)

you know 40 years later I still think of that. There used to be a small pizza place by where the train tracks crossed Woostercan’t remember the name though it might have started wint an M. in the 602-70s there was a strip there with Dorsey’s Drugs and a pool hall in that area. They had great pizza. At that time it was owned by a young couple and the wife used to help my ex and I with our horses at the fair grounds. They might still have it or might still be in the family. Great pizza, that’s where I got hooked on the stuff. wasn’t really a deep dish, but wasn’t a thin crust either and they really loaded it up.

yeah that’s it. wow, 40 years later and still in business.
there was a little building there with 4-5 stores including a pool hall at the time owned by a guy named Sam Spino. He was an old numbers guy and hustler and I worked part time for him for years. He knew every hustler in the US it seemed. Cornbread Red, Detroit Red, Gumpy, Mosconi,Wimpy Lassiter, a
young Mizerak and dozens of others. They would always stop there when in the area. I got to play some of those guys-they were just being nice while waiting around- and saw some amazing pool. I even beat Minnesota Fats in 8 ball…he ran the rack off the break and called the 8 on a one-rail bank and it went in two rails. I lived to tell that story at school.
BG was kind of a hub of pool activity. There were two girls there who went to the NCAA finals about 3-5 years in a row and some guys who got to the semis, so they used to book some guys like Mosconi and Lassiter each year at the pool room om campus. Great times….

To be honest and correct with the baseball world, Braves did not deserved to get a playoff spot:
1. Bobby Cox doing a horrible job, just horrible.

2. Chipper having the worst season of his career and carrying the team, but to bottom of the ocean.

3. Our cleanup hitter was as clutch as guys we have had in the past………. Pete Orr and Corky Miller are some examples.

4. Inability to win games when it matters most.

5. Win at least 50% of the easy games, games that on paper looked so easy to win.

6. No offensive leader, none. Or should I say, that when your 2 best offensive players of the season were :
a. Martin Prado, whom player only half of the games in the season
b. Laroche , whom was acquired for some 50 games.
c. Diaz, whom is a platoon player.

7. Our bullpen had very good numbers, but thats only because they dont keep a stat called “blown games that were already won by the 6th inning”.

8. One of our younger studs hustled down the line less than 40 year old Garret Anderson, and thats saying a lot. And keep in mind he kept doing it even after Bobby took him out in a crucial game in september for not doing so.

9. We had CF from day 2 (I´ll give Schafer day one as a successful one).

10. About our RBI: We only had 1 player with more than 80 RBI, just ridiculous. And nobody got to the 100 mark.

11. About our HR: Only 1 player with more than 20………. unheard of, and he had 21. Our OF (Nate+GA+Matt+Church), had a combined 38 HR in 1315 AB. If you add JF the number gets worse (43 HR in 1619 AB, making that a total of 1 HR every 37.65 AB). Then you have our corner IF hitting 36HR in 983, what is equal to 1 HR every 27.3 AB. Just to let you know how bad this is…………..Albert Pujols has 47 HR in 559AB. 6 players had more HR than our corner IF added up. 15 Players had 30 or more HR (and Im talk NL only).

8 or 9 ball (STEVE)

9ball now. 8 ball is way too easy. back in the day, the game used to be straight pool in all tournaments and even in most money games. The guys coming into Sam’s used to hustle the college guys in mostly straight up til the mid 70s or so and then it started changing more and more towards 9ball cause it is a quick & dirty money game. some guys play 6 ball now for even more games.
Guys like Mosconi and Lassiter made their bones in straight. In fact Mosconi ran 500 some balls in a row in an exhibition. Tournament record is in the 200s though I think. You can hang around a pool hall for a long long time now days and never see a straight pool game anymore, especially in the newer ones..
When my health was still good I played in a lot of regional level tournaments which were often visited and won by national level guys. I was a very good 9ball player, but not on that level. Fascinating to watch those great guys play though especially with a psychological viewpoint. Lotsa pressure. Some could handle it most of the time, some not so much. I’ve seen guys warm up who look like world-beaters but often end up losing. Similar to baseball in many ways.Concentration without tightening up, fine motor control, stay calm and away from emotion till after it’s over. Getting excited can bite you in the butt real quick.

No no. I know what Cots Contracts is, but here is my question:

Diaz and Moylan are arbitration eligible; how much do you think they will make?

JJ, Escobar, Prado, and Eric O’Flarity’s contracts are done, meaning, they don’t have contracts. But they are not free agents because they don’t have enough service time. They HAVE TO sign with the Braves (unless the Braves don’t offer them contracts).

SO, What do you think they will sign for?

If I’m Wren, I’m locking JJ up in a 6 yr. deal, like Brian McCann did. Just blow past his arbitration years. I’ve already seen enough of him to know his future is bright.

Ross

Jones has 17 RBI after the 6th inning. He’s 0-for-forever here at the end. He batted .230 in September and the same all year in the late innings. This has to be a bigger waste of cash than blowing it on Hampton’s hangnails. Yet still no one in Brave world dare speak the unspeakable – Larry C Jones sucks, as a leader, as a clutch player, and as a baseball player period. He has no heart.

I’ll give you a clue; It’s not a Cardinal, Twin, or a Marlin.

In fact, its a toss up between Ichiro and Chipper…

He is a great leader, and one of the smartest ballplayers in baseball. If you can’t see that, I can’t help you. While he has struggled this year, his presence is still great than that of a replacement player…

think he gets closer to 3M (JJ)

you might be right. I should have said ‘at least’ 2 mil, but he could get a bunch more depending on offer/counteroffer amounts. they will likely try to paint him as a platoon player rather than fulltime which might keep it lower. Of course he might get traded in a deal for a more powerful bat??? One thing I feel sure about is that Wren will surprise us at least once this winter, maybe more often than that

Jurrjens4NLCY

October 4th, 2009
4:39 am

I don’t think they can trade him… at least until he signs.

If they can, they should trade Kelly Johnson and Ryan Church and all the other players they don’t want, but again, I don’t think they can trade ‘em because the players are contractually obligated to the team.

Another question:
(I’m so curious today, must be the last hours)

If the Twins and Tigers lose tomorrow, is their still a tiebreaker? Or does the division go to Detroit?

Because the Twins called this game a must win…
I thought they don’t have to win, just have the Tigers lose…

I just heard from a Rangers’ beat writer that Washington isn’t a huge fan of Nelson Cruz at all. The guy has 30/30 potential and could flourish under Cox. I know others on here have mentioned him, but if he truly is out of favor in Texas; maybe the Braves should take a flier…

O.K. on CRUZ, but no trades. Maybe an outright buy of his contract. Had enough here of stocking the RANGERS with ML players.

ROB:

Heal up bud. And your last comment – that would be nice. I wouldn’t want to go out this way, would you?
