Here’s what we need to do sign Jason Bay probably 5 yr at 16-18 mil per and trade for Adrain Gonzalez, Which means trade Freddie Freeman and another pitcher, dump hudson’s salary and make another move to dump salary, resign either Soriano or Mike Gonzalez or both and call up Jason Heyward and we will win the division and wont have to worry about the wild card and send bobby out on top.

DOB

You know your actually right, if the someone told me the Braves would get 90 wins i would have taken it. Chipper is also killing the braves, i am thinking of all those chances that he has had this season, if he was on i say we would be in the high 90’s . You cant have your 3rd hitter batting .275 18 homers. Thats horrible for chipper and he knows it. I wish old chipper is back next year and batting 5th

2010 lineup

Figgins 3b
Prado 2b
McCann C
POWER BAT
Chipper jones 1B
Yunel Escobar ss
McLouth
Matt Diaz rf

My thoughts about things that Bobby gets credit for:

1) Spotting yours that having faith in Moylan (which few here did)
2) Switching out Gonzo and Soriano once it became clear that MFIKY was going to be the more consistent
3) Staying with Prado at second instead of being tempted to platoon
4) Using both the stick and the carrot with Yunel and getting a career year from the mercurial Mr. Escobar
5) Not platooning Diaz and Church once Matt heated up (remember, he slumped badly in midseason)
6) Setting the rotation well (a tricky matter with five righties!)

Am I wrong about any of these DOB?

Here is something I would like for someone to ponder: If Bobby Cox had his way and Tom Glavine was called up instead of Tommy Hanson in early June……..what do you think the Braves record would be?

My point is that Bobby Cox was lucky that Frank Wren convinced John Schuerholtz that the Braves were better off calling up Tommy Hanson.

Also, another point overlooked is that there is a chance that the Braves WOULD NOT have been able to make the McLouth trade if Glavine was added to the roster. Glavine was scheduled to earn an automatic $1 mil roster bonus as soon as he was added to the roster, plus another $3-4 mil on incentives, depending on how long he was on the roster. By releasing Glavine, the Braves had the money to pay McLouth. With the way attendance has fallen off this year, plus the fact that the Braves were struggling to win ball games, I seriously doubt that Liberty would have signed off on adding McLouth’s salary if they had to pay Tom Glavine as well. That would have pushed the payroll over $100 mil.

Many of you forget that the McLouth trade was made on the same day that the decision was made public that Tom Glavine would be released. Hardly a coincidence, when the above factors are considered.

Although the season ended this afternoon (or last night, depending on your point of view), I’m still grateful the Braves took the season as far as they did. They could have folded in August, but made it interesting until the end of September. It was a lot of fun.

DOB
On an extra note concerning Kawakami,
they have basically shut him down early this year.
That should help in healing his shoulder, strengthen it.
That in itself should help attract some interest in him.
OR… make him a very good #5 guy for us next year.

Lowe would be my first option to move.
For a high offence team – he could be a very legit #2 pitcher.
Our problem, we often do not score enough runs to feel safe with Lowe.
If we were the Phillies, with their offence, we wouldn’t worry about him so much!

Just wondering...

If anybody deserves blame for the Braves missing the playoffs its Bobby Cox. That stubborn mule just refused to intentionally walk Ryan Howard of Philly and look what it cost us? A playoff berth. Had Cox subjugated his ego and ordered his pitchers to intentionally walk Howard, the Braves would have won 16 of the 18 games they played the Phillies. That would have translated to the Braves being in first place the last week of the season and the Braves wouldnt have had to worry about chasing Colorado. They would have already had a post-season berth locked up by winning their 15th divisional title. Cox will be gone after another season and finally that stubborn, senile mule will be of the way for the Braves to flourish.

rico43………your 8:11pm posting conveniently overlooks a number of things.

1. I already said that Bobby Cox was right about keeping faith in Peter Moylan.

2. Going with Soriano over Gonzalez once he established the consistency and dominance early in the season was a NO BRAINER. My question in the posting you responded to was……….”Exactly what did Bobby Cox do to keep the Braves in contention that the average manager wouldnt have done”? Again, I keep hearing that Bobby Cox is a great manager. What is so “great” about going with the obvious choice?

3. Bobby didnt replace Kelly Johnson until the end of June (even when he was SUCKING A$$, both in the field and at the plate). Prado was raking at the plate. Again, what “average” manager wouldnt keep playing Prado after the switch was made?

4. It wasnt like this year was Escobar’s breakout year. Sure, Escobar’s numbers improved, however that expected. He’s a natural talent. Maybe part of the reason why Escobar had a number of base running blunders this year is because the Braves coaching dont do a good enough job of teaching these guys how to run the bases. I seriously doubt that if Bobby Cox hadnt disciplined him……..that Escobar would have had a bad year.

5. Bobby did platoon Church and Diaz for a period of time. Church’s nagging back injury along with Diaz getting hot made the decision a moot point. Also, you seem to forget that Bobby Cox BENCHED Diaz in early July (despite being in a 13 for 26 stretch) so his boy Francoeur could “get some at-bats”. It is VERY CLEAR that Bobby Cox only changes course when he is FORCED TO.

6. Setting the rotation well? What are you kidding? Any MORON can pencil in 5 starters who can pitch and let them do their thing. Setting? How did Bobby “set” the rotation?

Unbelievable.

What if Bobby Cox got his way and had Tommy Hanson in his rotation from day one? How do you know that’s not what he wanted? How do you know that it’s not Cox who was unlucky because Wren decided to go in another direction with Hanson?

Because, uh, dude, Cox ain’t gonna be around much longer, and he knew that back then, so what the hell did Bobby Cox give a sh!t about whether or not Hanson was a Super 2 in a few years and a free agent 6 years from now when he was no longer here?
