I wonder if the pee guy is awake. He’ll be on here shortly to tell us how the braves always choke, how chipper sucks, and all this stuff we don’t know or care about marlins players. Then he’s sure to mention something about Huddy to DOB and oh yeah, he’ll throw in a note to Jeremy Francoeur’s parents, in hopes that they’re reading this blog.

12 strikeouts! I mean, this is like…even more rare than if Derek Lowe got 12 K’s in one night! that would never happen!

Funny how the team that didn’t have any pressure on it played its tail off for a three-week stretch to get right back into the race. But when the pressure was on, they soiled the crib.”

Co-Sign Bro

That is why I didn’t buy into the hype! The braves played well in the second half but the important series over the last 2 months (mainly against the Big Dawgs, The Cardinals are an exception) they dropped flat…

I got called out when I said that the braves had their chances to show if they were playoff worthy against the Phillies on BSPN 6 weeks ago and blew it

from then on I pretty much knew that they didn’t have it despite finally beating up on AAA teams not named the reds or padres in which they should’ve beat up on in the first half

Yep. I shoulda seen this coming. A bunch of guys in our lineup have really good–great–numbers against this…this PITCHER. But no…not now! Forget it…forget about those homers and uh…doubles and RBI. K’s are fun. K’s are your friends. You want to K. That’s OK. No worries.

Everybody needs to remember that until recently we were chasing the Marlins as well. If they win tonight, they’ll be only 1.5 games behind us for 2nd in the division. And very well could finish with a better record than the Braves.

Not that it makes it easier to accept. But better to get bumped by them, than the Nats imo.

But people are acting like we’re getting killed by a team that is benieth them. Nope pretty much a team in exactly the same boat. Pretty good team with flashes of brilliance, flashes of ugliness, and in the end not quite enough this year to get there.

If I’m the Phillies next year, I’m scared to death of these two teams.

Somebody said earlier that the Fish have become our biggest division rival. I’ve always thought since 97 that they were. They ALWAYS play us tough, even in the years they’re not very good.

With them moving into a new stadium and not looking to sell off players, and with the youth on the Braves and Marlins, I look for them to be the class of the division for the next couple of years.

Just not this year.

And Vazquez is still out there? Really?

To me it’s not so much that he’s not a big game pitcher. He has been huge his last four outings. It’s more about Bobby not getting him the hell out of there when he obviously doesn’t have his best stuff. Just like Hudson last night.

There is ZERO excuse to let Vazquez be the one to allow this game to get to 5-0. None. Not one.

Why blame Vasquez? Yeah he gave up the homer, but if Chipper doesn’t make that damn error, we would still be in the ballgame. That plus 9 straight strikeouts against Ricky freaking Nolasko doesn’t help. I thought the Braves would play this game with a little more intensity-not look like a triple A team.

Rob in Fayetteville

I agree with a previous poster – it seems that Ozzie Guillen was right about Vasquez and big games. He’s getting his K’s, but not much else. Even the outs have been hit hard….

A side note – this may not mean a whole lot (since batting practice isn’t always a harbinger of how teams will hit during the game), but I was at the game last night, and guys like Uggla, Maybin, and Ramirez were absolutely tattooing baseballs deep into the stands during BP (and Uggla and Maybin would homer in the game), while the Braves’ batting practice was rather unimpressive. The way the Marlins are hitting and the Braves (literally) aren’t, it makes you wonder.

Hell if we’re gonna go down in flames, let’s do it in style. Let’s go for 20 K’s, guys…..

McFann…we are in accord. I agree that Mac has had a lot to deal with. The glasses thing, the lead-off spot (which I dont he should be in…I think he puts too much pressure on himself) among others. But as i was saying, it was crazy bad luck that one a year we finally put the pitching together along with a great bullpen, we take major steps back offensively, and losing some important production from Chipper and Mac. I am a mcfann, just so you know. He is my favorite player.

Efrim

N8, I think the Marlins are going to trade away Uggla this offseason, because he’s too expensive. And I also don’t think they’ll tender Hermida a contract or resign Nick Johnson. Plus, there is a decent chance that they deem Josh Johnson a player that they need to trade away due to his future contract demands. So they may still be the Marlins. All that said, the reason that they always make their way back is because of how good their player development and scouting is, so you could very well be right in terms of their future.

Ahh, now I see. If a pitcher serves up a couple of dingers to put his team in a hole, the offense is supposed to pick him up; but, if a guy makes an error behind said pitcher, said pitcher has no responsiblity to pitch around the mistake. That about right?
