jeffrey d, yeah, and he also gave up an RBI double to the pitcher and a 2 run homer to a guy that only had 2 homers all year coming in. So dont just look at it with rose colored glasses buddy and pick out information to support the guy.
Cry wail moan gripe complain it’s [the person I hate the most or the fan base I hate the most as I complain fom Los Angeles] that cost us everything in this one game which was more important than any game all year
Hudson also gave up a homer to a guy that had 3 home runs. He looked like a guy who had 5 starts off an arm operation. He is our worst pitcher going against an All Star pitcher. 1 against a 5 not good odds.
Suck it the f*** up, folks. It’s a loss. The Braves have lost 70 other times this year. It happens. It was bound to happen. Hell, it’ll probably happen at least one more time this year. That’s why it’s always better to be in control of your own destiny. If the Braves want to do that, they’ll have to be better in the first half next season.
By the way, I’d like to tell the marketing folks to shove “Believe” up their a**es. Those snake oil salesmen will stop at nothing to pimp tickets. They’ve made me hate Boog and Joe. I kinda liked those guys last year, but I guess we need them to sell us tickets every inning. It appears that we also need them to explain to us why we should be going to baseball games. Thanks a lot, PR numbletards. Go suck a lemon, why don’t ya?
Its Still new to them A Bomb, the shine will wear off those Rockies sooner or later. It was new in the 90’s for us too. That whole winning thing. Once again some of you out of towners have failed to realize that like i’ve said a million times, some of my fellow metro-atlantans have been affected by a flood. Did that hurt attendance, who knows. How many people legitimately could not drop every thing and get to the park just because the braves have made a nice late run. Most of those people there in the 90’s where there because at the time it was the place to be, your real housewives of atlanta type crowd. Just want to be on the scene.
For me personally, in a division where the marlins seemingly do well every year and can’t even manage to get more than 10,000 most nights in a place with a larger population than metro atlanta and a large latin american community that in general loves baseball I’m appreciative of the fans who do make there way out. You say there was no one there but there were 28,000 fans there that were into it and took the time to show their appreciation. Those are your real fans and i’ll take them over the bandwagon just want to be seen or be on the scene fans.
Does anybody remember all those games we won at one point when Chipper was out of the line-up?
We can win without him. I ain’t mad at the guy, he’s at the end of his career. That’s why if nothing else he shouldn’t be batting third. I’m sorry but as long as Bobby Cox is the manager of this team, we will not make the playoffs. It would be nice to win 90 games but we should win these types of games and we don’t anymore. He’s lost his touch.
It doesn’t help when he thinks playing a guy every day in the same spot in the order for a month is going to help him get out of a slump.
Here’s my line-up:
Omar
Prado
Diaz
LaRoche
McCann
Yunel
GA
McLouth
Or maybe Chipper to bat 8th. Don’t you think that would be a little distracting to a pitcher to think he’s about to get out of trouble by facing the back end of the order and then see Chipper?
You still can’t pull the plug yet. Granted, if the Rocs win tonight, the odds are even steeper, but I’ll reserve judgement for at least one more day.
I didn’t expect the Braves to win out through this home stand, but no doubt, they just lost the last game they can afford to lose. Even winning out might not be enough especially if the Rocs do win tonight.
Regardless, it has been fun the last week. Hopefully, this team learned something that will carry over into next year.
Still, can’t help but shake the head and cuss a little, thinking about the intensity that has seemed to exist on this team the last couple of weeks. I wonder where the hell this intensity was earlier in the season when they were playing themselves into this hole?
Looking too much into his performance? Its his performance that cost this team the game, if we werent down already 3 runs through the 5th inning, this would have felt less pressure trying to score runs, but instead, they had to go to the pen early and used the only option they thought viable, and that was KK, but yet everybody on this blog lambastes KK for giving up a single run.
jeffrey d, no, you are right, you didnt say he was lights out, but you only pointed out the fact that he gave up a homer to a guy that had 32, no big deal……….but you failed to mention how he gave up the other runs.
Hudson ia not pitching really well. Performance wise I dont think he deserves to get his option exercised. But Bobby loves him, and he is great in the community of Atlanta so that gives him some points for Wren to sign him, but I wouldn’t to be honest. I’d be happy with Kawakami as my 5th starter.
Hate to say it, but I feel the season is over. Milwaukee is going to be no help and they will get swept, and all the Rocks will have to do is win one single game against the Dodgers and they are in. I cant see the Braves reeling off another 5 game winning streak, even though they just ended a 7 game one, i dont see them getting that momentum going again after this loss.
KK was removed as a starter so Hudson could audition. Hudson while occasionally effective is probably not effective enough at 12 mil. Gotta feel for KK tonight. He had good outings prior to being pulled out of the lineup. Pitched well in Florida despite his on again off again status for that start. I say keep KK and let Hudson walk.
“gah!! nate i’m getting tired of you freakin’ striking out …. you’re a lead off guy, you’re supposed to get on base!”churchman
No. McLouth is batting leadoff for US, he’s NOT a leadoff hitter. Two different things. Before the trade, Nate had 8 HR and 32 RBI in 45 games batting in the 3-hole for the Pirates. In 76 games with the Braves, he’s got 9 HR and 35 RBI batting leadoff.
Not sure who the better options is, if their is one. Perhaps Prado? Obviously the lineup has been working, so I’m not griping. Just correcting you. Nate isn’t a leadoff hitter. Never really has been a good one.
He’s a decent hitter, but not meant to be up there, imo.
My only gripe tonight is that Hudson got left in too long. Six games to go in the season, and we’re six deep in experienced starting pitchers (with Medlen if needed for long relief in extra innings)???? Bobby has to play these games like playoff games with the starters. The second somebody gets in trouble, the bullpen has to be stirring, imo.
It would have been one thing if Hudson was extra sharp in the early innings, and ran into a bump in the road. But he looked shaky from the get go. I would have had him on a shorter leash. But that has never been Bobby’s style, so I’m not really that surprised.
Good hard fought game. With Colorado winning 5-2, tomorrow is a MUST win for us and MUST lose for the Rockies. Really can’t afford to lose again. Gotta love the Diaz HR and Prado’s hustle. That was cool. But Chipper’s AB in the 9th was Andruw/Francoeur-ish. Mac has to come through in the 5th with the sacs loaded, and McLouth swinging at one above his eyes was pitiful.
I thought an unmentioned side note, was Medlen’s nice work holding the fort in the top of the 9th. I think he’ll be an asset out of the pen next year. Really do.
3 down and 5 to go. Could be worse. It could be 6 down with 5 to go. Gotta keep fighting.
Either way, this team is going to be a force next year. The NL should be on notice.
Rock On, I think it was a tough situation for both pictures. Hudson coming off of TJ surgery was seen as a savior for some even though as we have seen from most of our pitchers coming back from this they can be very unpredictable at first. KK is a starter who has been thrown into the bullpen and is expected to just fill a role he’s not use to.
On next season, i’ve always been on the side that if we had to pick between the two I would want Vazquez over Hudson simply because I don’t like the idea of having two pitchers who are so similar like Hudson and Lowe in the rotation. I would rather keep Hudson over Lowe but Lowe has a hard contract to move. If Hudson is willing to take a hometown discount than he’s the choice, but all things equal next year I would rather have Vazquez the strikeout pitcher over another sinkerballer.
Mitchell, you’re not crazy. Chipper has zero business right now batting in the 3-hole. I’ve been saying it for two months. Zero business. The 3-hole is reserved (or should be) for a team’s best hitter. He might not even be in the Top 4 best hitters of our everyday 8 at this point.
Not ragging on him, his career, or leaving out the possibility that he may turn it around next year. He might. But right now, he shouldn’t be batting third.
But hey, like I said before. This lineup has been working, so I’m not really complaining about it. But with AB’s like he had tonight, and just flat out what he’s done this year, batting him 3rd is just wrong, and hurting the team more than it’s helping it. I can’t see how anybody can honestly say they disagree with that.
Joe Montana might have been the greatest QB in SF history. Hell, possibly in the NFL’s history. But in the late 80’s, he wasn’t the best option to lead the 49rs. Steve Young was. Now, Joe went on to lead my Chiefs to the AFC Championship game. So he WAS the right guy (as opposed to Dave Krieg or Steve DeBerg) to lead THEM.
Chipper is still a good hitter. On a lousy team, he might be their best hitter. But on this team, right now. He is NOT the best guy to bat 3rd.
As this team is currently constructed with the everyday 8, Escobar is. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
Tomas…..I feel you are right about Hudson. Great guy to have on the team and a good ambassador for certain. Not real important in getting people out though. Without question Hudson is our
#5 starter at best. To pay him 12 mil for that is foolish especially since we are paying 15mil to a guy that is our #4 who we thought was going tone our ace. Lot of money for back end guys!
Hudson and KK choked huge tonight with the season on the line.Don’t let the door hit you Hudson, and please trade KK .Sign Ugglia and another power hitting outfielder. When this team plays a good team they are clearly outmanned. See ya next year. Wren you got some work to do.
Talk about veterans letting down the rest of the bunch.. Chipper, Mac, and Hudson looked more like rookies making their big league debut tonight instead of the seasoned veterans trying to lead their team into the playoffs.. The Braves chances just took a serious blow tonight when Hudson fell completely on his face.. The Rockies are winning against the Brewers and its looking like we will be 3 down with only 5 to play.. The odds aren’t looking good..
Anders…or anyone else……do you remember when the mets had the cool uni’s and Curt Gowdy was doing play by play on NBC Saturday baseball game of the week?….Now anything orange and blue (Florida) should be urinated on! Goodnight Braves fans. We’ll be hell on wheels next year.
Mclouth is not a leadoff hitter. He was pathetic tonight. Laroche did not exactly make a case to be kept with the season on the line-he was pathetic tonight also
Should have stated early 90’s, not late 80’s about Joe Montana. Not that it frickin matters. But I don’t want to be called an uneducated moron again. I’ve already cried once today, twice would be too much.
Wayne in UTAH …. yeah, there’s always hope. That’s part of the fun of watching sports to start with. When did this blog turn into the biggest bunch of whiney, let’s-find-someone-to-blame jerk-offs ???
They don’t enjoy the game, they just want to watch it like it’s a video game with some sort of “cheat code” that guarantees a win every time. What’s fun about that ??
Thank God fan support is measured at the turnstiles….
Atlanta has some great suburbs if you haven’t heard, ever expanding. Plenty of room for all you diehard out of towners who I know are so pissed at the attendance showing that they will do whatever it takes to find a job here and move here just to support there braves year round and show up to EVERY ballgame. I, a sorry local fan will be making my way to the Ted tomorrow and Thursday. Why, i don’t know because we all suck, no?
Mitchell……frankly I , like you, could care less if any on here think we are idiots. Bunting Chipper in the 9th was the thing to do especially since Chipper is for all real purposes is more of a 6 hole hitter these days. Bobby doesn’t view him that way of course and we all know he won’t change.
But hey, like I said before. This lineup has been working, so I’m not really complaining about it.
Against the Mets and Nationals.
Another year of Bobby Cox, another year with plentiful seating at Turner Field, another year of losing close games, not being able to manufacture runs, single digit complete games and an overworked bullpen.
If you people are happy about this, I envy you.
I don’t blame the guy for losing four world series. He had no luck. He should have at least won two if not three easily but I don’t really put it on him. What I can’t understand is why he’s still here 17 years later when the entire decade after the five WS appearances have ended in disappointment.
Seriously, do they not get why no one shows up? People get tired of seeing the same thing over and over especially when it never gets any better.
“Outside of Diaz’s HR not much there hitting wise the last 2 nights.”
Nope thats not it monty, KK and Huddy suck, and oh maybe more buts in the seats I guess means we will one day get Nate to layoff those balls in his eyes.
Jason Kendall made it so my game story in tomorrow’s paper won’t have the new magic number in it most likely. But i’m sure you guys would take that tradeoff. aha.
consensus in the clubhouse seemed to be that the Braves thought they played a decent game and got beat.
Matt Diaz: “Tonight is a tough loss but it’s not like we played terrible tonight. They just beat us. They had a great pitcher on the mound, and their offense just kept coming.”
“We’ve been in the corner all season long pretty much, so we’ll see how it works out,” Matt Diaz said. “It’s looked bleaker than this even if the Rockies win tonight. We’ll see what happens and we’ll come tomorrow ready to play carefree, like we’ve got nothing to lose and keep playing good baseball. Tonight you face josh Johnson and get four runs, you say you’ll take that.”

Something that would never be said on a Yankees/Red Sox/Mets/Phillies/Cubs blog.
Hudson conceded that tonight was the most inconsistent he’s felt in his six starts coming back from Tommy John. That’s what you hear with pitchers on these comebacks, that sometimes their location just goes on them. And it’s amazing that he’s not felt that as much up until now. But here’s what he said:
“It was definitely the most inconsistent I’ve felt in this whole process,” Hudson said. “I’m not making any excuses. I felt all right out there, but it’s frustrating, for me this was one of our biggest games of the year and I just didn’t quite get the job done.”
“For me tonight it was hit or miss,” Hudson said. “Even from at-bat to at-bat, I’d make some really good pitches and then I’d leave a pitch out over the plate. It’s a little frustrating because I definitely felt like I was better than what I showed.”
I hope we get another CF for next year. How in the world did McLouth win a Gold Glove? He has a weak arm. I think we all took Andruw Jones for granted, at least a little. The best I have ever seen out there.
Hudson, while unquestionably a great guy, not a big game pitcher. Remember game 1 of NLDS in 05? OK in game 4 or 5 that year, but very poor tonight. Really, only 3 pennant type games he has started as a Brave and bombed in two of them. No way worth the money he is seeking next year.
KK kind of got screwed this year. He was redhot when pulled from rotation. Maybe start next year rotation with Hanson, JJ, KK, Javy, Lowe, and hopefully trade Lowe sometime during 1st half of season. Get Heyward in as everyday RF, figure out what to do with leadoff/CF, and line em up! Spring training only 5 months away!
The Red Sox magic number is 6? Isn’t that the amount of games they have left? Is it still called a magic number if you have to wait until the last day of the season to clinch?
We were lucky to win last night scoring 2 runs without anyone getting a hit and tonight runners left on base galore, so yeh we didn’t hit, especially when it counted. Even with Hudson giving up the gophers a timely hit or 2 would have still done the trick, you can’t always have your starters shut down the other team. Take away the 3 run homer for Matt, and there wasn’t much there.
Jake W……there is no scenario that Vazquez is gone and Hudson is here mo matter how much hometown discount is given. Hudson at best is a #4 guy maybe even #5 on Atlanta. No thanks. I’ll keep KK and let Hudson go elsewhere. This rotation was fine prior to Hudson throwing a pitch. Not against the guy just saying he doesn’t give us something we don’t already have who is cheaper to boot.
I’m tired of reading you guys supporting one given player some days and then bashing him the other day. I can’t stand it. I’m done with this blog. I’ll still read DOB’s, Mrs Carroll’s and even Mr Schultz’s and Mr Bradley’s posts. No one here has the talent to compete against these players (if someone has it, then go to a tryout camp next season) and still talk/write stuff like if hitting a ball exactly to where the fans (and even the player itself wants) were so easy. These guys have turned the season around and still are on the hunt. Give them some credit. I don’t even live in Atlanta (heck, I’ve never been there) and I can call myself a true Braves’ fan and a loyal fan. I’m a dominican, and people in my country use to switch teams between one season and the other depending on where the better dominican players are (which I don’t give a sh*t about that because the Braves are the team I first rooted for and will always root for), so there isn’t a really fan base for one team or another.
Once a Brave, always a Brave (no matter if they lose win).
Thanks Bat. my mlb tv is all over the place. they drop in on like 8 games at random times and i can’t ever tell if i’m watching something live or a recap lol
That was a HORRIBLE call on that play at 1B. Brewers caught a huge break. I hate to say this. But MLB needs some sort of replay/challenge system like the NFL.
The argument in the NFL is the time it takes. Well, to me in MLB 9 out of 10 times you have a huge delay while the manager argues. In the time being, an ump could look at the replay and SAVE time, while getting the call righ (or verifying that it was right to begin with).

Rock On........

People get tired of seeing the same thing over and over especially when it never gets any better.

consensus in the clubhouse seemed to be that the Braves thought they played a decent game and got beat.

Mrs Carroll Rogers:
