Not yours in particular JJ.
Still…. What do you mean? Paul Lentz said something and Carrol Rogers batched slapped his azz back to Timbuktu… or San Fransisco, whatever the kids are calling it these days…
I am done even reasoning with someone like you, not worth my time or effort to talk any sort of sense into someone who doesn’t even attempt to see other viewpoints. Why should anyone on here listen or even acknowledge yours? Enjoy the game fellow Braves fans!!!(And that includes you Lentz, if you even dare want any of us here to label you as such)
Look, when it comes to Paulie Lentz, it could be raining gold nuggets and he’d gripe about them hitting his head.
Sanchez worries me a little bit. Had a superior outing against the Phillies last time. His numbers aren’t impressive, but that’s the sort of pitcher the Bravos have had trouble with: the less impressive ones.
JJ – at least twice by my recollection. We briefly mentioned it the other day.
But on both instances, he was getting really angry about people disrespecting him, calling him joke names (like Pauline Dense), etc. And he was just making these absurd and obscene personal comments to people. The one that everyone points to was when he said something incredibly disrespectful about the armed services and about Mitchie-san (who’s in the armed services, in Japan right now if I’m not mistaken).
Understood Anders. Thought maybe you were basking in excitement here on the ol’ blog. Your NY blogs must be full of Lentz’s though for you to be spending so much time here, considering the year you’ve had. But the feelings are mutual. Thought you’d have the same “we’ll root for the Marlins if we’re out of it” pity thing going that many of us Braves fans don’t mind doing. But, the feelings are mutual, I would never root for Philly or the Mets in October either…
monty – about your 5:33 pm – would be a good idea except for the fact that BC himself will only consider one year contracts. Been that way for over 20 years.
Anders……….I’m not talking about Bobby’s managing in years past. I’m talking specifically about this year. What happened 4 years ago is irrevelant to me today. Just like players lose it at a certain point in their careers……….the same thing happens to managers. Just because Bobby helped lead the Braves to 14 straight division championships…….does not meant that he should be given a free pass when his mistakes hold a team back. We won our last division title in 2005. This is 2009.
I have so much faith in this year’s team. I wont blame April and May on Bobby Cox so much as I blame June and and part of July on him. On June 2nd, when the McLouth trade was made, along with calling up Tommy Hanson, that would have been a great time to complete the shake-up by benching Kelly and Francoeur in favor of Diaz and Prado…….and releasing Jeff Bennett and Greg Norton.
There is no way that the players are going to say anything bad about Bobby. Baseball players know that burning bridges isnt wise. Sure, there are exceptions out there. However, the kind of players that the Braves tend to go after…..are players who are more than likely to walk the “company line”. Notice how the ones who dont (Kenny Lofton, Gary Sheffield) last very long.
Here’s hoping that the planets and stars are in the proper alignment and the Braves can do it! You never know, Norton could become the next Frankie Cabrera. Go Braves!
Just because I want to speculate about it and I’m not sure if I’ll get the chance after the next couple of days–
So, who would be the starting pitchers in the playoffs for the Bravos? Here are my selections (not taking into account who started which game at the end of the season, because I just don’t want to get too detailed about it right now):
1. Javier Vasquez. The guy has been the clear ace of the staff over the last month or so of the season. He also has hard and dominating stuff, the kind of stuff that can make a postseason hero.
2. Jair Jurjens. A close second to Vasquez and having a terrific year. I still can’t believe the Braves got him in a trade.
3. Tommy Hanson. The rookie has been right up there with Vasquez and Jurjens over the last couple of months. He has dominating stuff– could deliver some Smoltz-like performances.
That leaves Tim Hudson and Derek Lowe in the bullpen in a 5 game series– and immediately makes it a seriously good one. If the Braves were lucky enough to play in a 7 games series… who wants to put Lowe out there right now the way he’s pitched recently? I think it would be Hudson.
And, while I am not a Bobby hater, as some are on this blog, I have to admit I get a bit of a chill thinking that Bobby might stick Hanson in the bullpen and go with either Hudson or Lowe. I have to think he wouldn’t but… I’m just not sure.
Okay, that’s probably the only time I get to do that– although here’s hoping the Braves take it to the Marlins!
K_Chub, 5:09 pm … “Dear AJC Blog People – can you highlight Paul Lentz’s posts in yellow or some other obvious color – that way it’ll be easier for all of us to immediately identify and skip over them.”
Maybe they can give some folks a special “emphasis” font color … like white.
Carroll..DOB.. and others. Quick question.. I was sitting there today wondering who will replace Bobby after next year and I was wondering if you guys thought it would be possible to get Ron Gardenhire from Minnisota? The Twins have one of the smallest payrolls and he would be in a way better situation here in Atlanta. Just seeing what you guys think..
glord………I stated last week that the Braves, before the Mets series began, were going to have to finish 12-1 in order to have a shot at making the playoffs. Not only that, I came right out and said that I think that this Braves team (given the schedule and the quality of our starting pitching) could finish the season 12-1.
2 sweeps (6 wins later), the Braves are halfway there. There is no reason why we cant go at least 6-1 this week.
Yet a number of people on here last week were saying that I was being “unrealistic” in my assessment. They was saying that they would be happy with 9-4 or 10-3 to finish the season.
I responded by saying that it would be a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT if we finished the season 9-4 or 10-3. Just like I was disappointed that we finished the home stand right after the All-Star Break at 6-2 instead of the 8-0 record that we should have posted.
I have faith in the ability of this team…….and many of you rip me for it. Yet you are willing to settle for good….when greatness is achievable. PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By using Greg Norton as the #1 pinch hitter, Bobby Cox is potentially holding this team back…….not putting it in the best possible position to win.
Anders – do they give Charles Manson pc privileges now.
I thought it was sadly and horrifically ironic that Roman Polanski was arrested on a day when someone talked to me about the Manson “family” murders (Sharon Tate and all).
Paul – my point is you are not going to change the opion of the biggest Bobby Cox fans just like they will not change yours. I agree with almost all of your gripes with Bobby tactically. The problem is that I have to give the manager some credit when the team is playing loose and puts up a 14 – 2 record against anyone.
Carroll Rogers………..concerning your 5:32pm posting, I’m not sure where you got the “real men dont get their news from chick sports writers” comment. I never said that.
Also, concerning your statement of asking Bobby Cox about Greg Norton in Florida…..my question is “why didnt you (or any other Braves writer) continue to follow up with that”? Greg Norton has continued to stink up the place. Yet you sports writers (male and female) are content with one answer that Bobby Cox gives you guys and will leave it at that, not bringing it up again for the rest of the year.
I feel that the Atlanta sports media is so “in awe” of Bobby Cox that they are afraid of losing their precious access to the Braves if any criticism is directed at Bobby.
If a child misbehaves, and a parent gets on the child and punishes the child for misbehaving……..is a parent not obligated to get on the child and punish the child again if he misbehaves again in a similar manner? Every game that Bobby uses Greg Norton, Bobby should be questioned on it. The FREAKING STATS DONT LIE. Greg Norton SUCKS A$$. SIMPLE AS THAT.
How in the world is it even remotely close to being responsible journalism when you sports writers dont do your job and ask the tough questions when warranted?
If you can’t highlight Lentz’s posts in black like was mentioned earlier, can you at least make them post like this? We need some kind of irrelevancy indicator. That would be really funny if his posts posted like this, kinda of like disputing his thoughts ahead of time, so we don’t have to. Hmmm….
Figured this was coming for season tic holders who didnt buy playoff tics prior to Sept. 11 deadline, just got this in email:
“We are pleased to announce that the deadline for 2009 Postseason tickets has been extended. Your seats will be available until 5pm Thursday, October 1st. Postseason tickets will be printed and shipped overnight at the conclusion of the regular season. You can access your online invoice and make a payment using the steps below:”
During the winter, Bobby Cox should consider moving either Prado or Infante to the outfield, I don’t think Heyward will be ready next year. This would allow to 300 hitters to be in the lineup everyday. Conrad can adequately backup second base.
Turning off the computer, tearing off this monkey suit, donning the Braves cap, slapping on some jeans and my Chipper tee, and heading on down to the Ted to see the Bravos kick some arse. Can’t wait to go to the game we’ll be playing next Monday night. Go Braves!
Wonder if the city of Atlanta is more pumped about the Dagws or the Braves in the heat of a playoff run? Huh, I’ll say it’s 60/40 in favor of Dawgs football. Guess we’ll see by the turnout tonight.
Ordinarily I wouldn’t say this but I got a few minutes out of my life to say something directly to you. So here ===== You don’t get it … PERIOD !!
Not that it makes me a superior person or anything but I actually played for the Braves organization and I have personal knowledge of Bobby Cox that you don’t. Earlier you railed on about how Bobby is supposed to be teaching his players the fundamentals instead of keeping them focused. That one comment alone shows you for the pathetic moron you are and utterly devoid of baseball intelligence on any level.
FOCUS is what makes the difference between a talented team winning when it needs to or collapsing under pressure. Example — NY Mets. Focus is what makes players remember the fundamentals, this isn’t HS where the coach hits ground balls and yells “turn 2″.
Wanting to play for a manager instead of wanting to play for a check is why you see this team rolling now. BC is the guy most major leaguers say they want to play for. Not guys who were on the Braves before but guys who have NEVER been on a Braves team at all.
I’ll take the opinion of several hundred PRO’s, countless media reps, and of course my own personal history with Bobby over your insane, delusional, and narcissistic rants. I know it’s a big word so look it up, Webster’s dictionary should put you name in the definition.
I have chosen battle’s before with the likes of COACH over his relentless bashing and anyone who has read this blog for any length of time knows the once I sink my teeth into you I will not let up. You are now officially my new “project”.
I don’t have all day to sit on the blog but I will make it a point to get on as much as possible to “drill you a new hole”. You have now become A$$CLOWN #1 !!!!!
Now do you really want keep being a douchebag??? Or do you really just like living in your parents basement… And please don’t try to tell us you don’t, and that you’re the big “Ladies Man” in you hometown. Most of the girls in your town are just dudes wearing dresses !!!!
What a dumb line-up. Lead-off guy is hitting .262. I mean, what the f?
Sure we won six in a row, we were playing the two worst teams in baseball. I “believe” and have faith and everything but this line-up is absolutely retarded.
Matt Diaz, best average on the team… batting 8th. WTF
That’s a shame what Joe Simpson just said about the papers in Atlanta hardly even acknowledging the Braves. It’s college football time & people are obviously into that instead.

Yeah. To bad the Mets ran out all those Cy Young hopefuls against the Braves the last 6 times they met.

I was sitting there today wondering who will replace Bobby after next year and I was wondering if you guys thought it would be possible to get Ron Gardenhire from Minnisota? glord………I stated last week that the Braves, before the Mets series began, were going to have to finish 12-1 in order to have a shot at making the playoffs.

During the winter, Bobby Cox should consider moving either Prado or Infante to the outfield, I don’t think Heyward will be ready next year. This would allow to 300 hitters to be in the lineup everyday. Conrad can adequately backup second base.

This is for the Douchebag KING!! Paul Lentz…………..
