…And if Bobby listened to you early on we would never have had Peter Moylan in doing the best relief job in the entire major league during the 2nd half of the season. You wanted him gone around the all star break….look what he has done since…one for Bobby, zero for Lentz
Anders I hate the DH also, but agree 100% with your recent comment concerning such. Its such a joke that MLB has 2 different rules in different leagues. Its kinda like the AFC being allowed to play with 12 men on the field, and the NFC with 11. How silly would that be? But having such a weak commish as Selig pretty much guarantees it will stay that way. Its really pathetic.
Carroll Rogers………..your 2:21pm posting shows how un-insightful you are.
I’ll use the same comparison to replacing Norton as I used with benching Francoeur and Kelly earlier this year: While I did not envision Prado and Diaz playing as well as they have……..I felt that even “average” production from them was MUCH BETTER than the garbage we was getting from Kelly and Francoeur. It’s called “addition by subtraction”.
Having Brooks Conrad or even Reid Gorecki as the #1 pinch hitter would be a HUGE upgrade over Norton. Brooks Conrad can play multiple infield position, a switch hitter with a little pop in his bat, and can run the bases a little…….and can at least hit a fly ball to knock in a runner from 3rd with less than 2 outs. Gorecki is right handed and can play the outfield and can run a little.
Greg Norton is only capable of drawing the occasional walk. No power, cant run the bases, and is a big liability on the field. Bottom line, he is a waste of a roster space.
Saying that we dont have a Jim Thome available to replace Norton is not justification to keeping Norton. Sadly pathetic thinking there by you. Even a little pinch hitting production would be a MOUNTAIN OF IMPROVEMENT over the crap we’ve seen from Norton all year.
Lew – I hear ya. I’m just wondering what Cox thinks of him. Let’s be honest if you can’t play for Cox than you’re the problem. The whole Church/Manuel thing really puzzled me. That’s all I meant.

beekay – Good point. That is one situation where Bobbys patience paid off big time. One month into the season I would have been delighted to see Moylan optioned to build arm strength in AAA. From May 1st Moylan has been the most effective reliever in baseball.

I’ll remove it when the Braves are mathematically eliminated from the season. Secondly, no one else was on the blog when I posted “Enter your comments here,” so you don’t have a right to complain. I was trying to center the “Until the End” part…
Newbie – Terrace level seats are the in my opinion, they are around $35 each, which isn’t too bad if you don’t go to games very often – like me. These are called terrace level on the ticketmaster site and sections 202/204/206/208 are some of the best affordable seats in the house. 202 is right under the press box and then 208 is between 3B and home, 210 is okay too but anything past that and you’re getting out into LF too far for my liking.
Paul we get it. Bobby did some dumb things especially early in the season. I am as guilty as anyone for piling on Cox and Norton. Its easy and fun to take out frustration. That said the Braves are on an unbelieveable run right now. Is Bobby going to stop doing frustrating things? I doubt it but even if they fall short they gave it one hell of a run and things look really good for next year.
You will never win any arguments out here regarding all of your Bobby Cox bashing. Doesn’t really matter anyway as you are obviously…just a plain and simple little jackass…who likes to stir it up with your keen insights to baseball (and life…)My degree in 101 psychology…leads me to believe that you must have a serious Oedipus complex…who more than likely…maybe still wets his bed. On top of that…I am sure you have never worn a jock in your small-minded life. However, I can imagine that you were and maybe you still are a jock sniffer…since you never had one ounce of athletic ability in your body.
The man has won 2,412 games in his career (regular season only)…been named Manager of the Year 4 times (The Sporting News has given him this award…8 times)…15 Divisional titles, 5 National League Championships and 1 World Series ring. Most baseball people think that is a hall-of-fame worthy type stats.
Bobby Cox for manager of the year? Are you people effing crazy?
For a start, you’re going to have to find somebody other than Ken Rosenthal to vote for him. That ain’t happening.
If it’s not Jim Tracy, it’s nobody. Nobody else really stands out. Granted, we haven’t exactly been a complete team for most of the year but either way we’ve played just about at or slightly above average. I think you have to kind of exceed expectations to be considered for manager of the year.
The way I see it, some people on this blog need something to complain about regardless of how well the team is playing and there really hasn’t been too much to complain about the last couple of weeks so people spend way too much time complaining about Norton and Bobby. I know that was a run-on sentence and I just don’t care.
Anyone else going tonight to show some support? My wife’s unavailable, so I think I’m going to wander down and take my chances with the scalpers (John Adcox)
There are 100 different ways to go with this. Look at it, just sitting there. If Mr. Adcox was a regular I might have ventured in.
Oh yeah, let me post this and see what Lentz’s up to.
As an Georgian that lives in Miami for law school, I first want to say that I am extremely glad I get to watch the game tonight on TV. Even though the Marlins announcers are terrible. I know a lot of people don’t like the TV team the braves have, but trust me you’re lucky to have Jon and Joe.
Second, Carroll I wanted to ask if you heard or saw anything from the braves last night after the unbelievable stupidity by the cardinals? Reaction? I would be interested to see the reaction of the players after that kind of loss.
Third, does the whole Matt Holiday out due to “sickness” seem a little fishy to anyone but me?
Mitchell – If the Braves catch the Rox I expect Cox to win it. I believe the wild card winner will win Manager of the year. Both teams missed the playoffs last year and were dead in the water in June.
Dear AJC Blog People – can you highlight Paul Lentz’s posts in yellow or some other obvious color – that way it’ll be easier for all of us to immediately identify and skip over them. I don’t want to read one sentence of the constant garbage he continues to spew over and over and over again. Thanks for helping out the sane people AJC.
If we can win this series against the Fish, I think we have a chance. It would be an incredible come back. I think with the pitching and momentum the Braves have, if we can make it to the playoffs, the Braves have a real chance to win the NL pennant.

If we lose: 3 back…
Three back with 6 games left is next to impossible.

Lentz…you ignorant jerk…
Anyone can be a Monday morning quarterback…
Bobby’s best attribute is to be a leader. To a man…99.9% of the players he has been around…they love playing for him. While he has not been perfect…his .548% (winning)…is nothing to sneeze at.
There are 20 Managers, currently in the Hall of Fame. Bobby Cox will be number 21. That, lil’ buddy…is a guarantee!!!
Chill with praising Bobby all of the sudden because our team is making up ground. If some games were managed better, I can think of at least 5, we would be in the lead…. not being forced to win 13 games in a row, and 23 out of 25.
I remember all the fair-weather fans giving up hope months ago, especially a week ago. Please don’t come to these games, you don’t deserve to!
Go Braves
Skeezix – Gotta agree. I think the Braves would beat either the Cards or Dodgers right now. In the NLCS if its against the PhillS anything could happen. Thats why I would love to see them get in. It could be a fun ride.
Paul, one thing you forgot to mention is that if it was left up to Cox,Escabor would probably be playing for some other organization.I was wondering if you believe The Braves will do the right thing and pay Escabor as they have done others.JJ also should be considered for the Mac and Frenchie bump.Paul, that decision to hit Norton with the go ahead run at third is the main reason that we are not winning this division. Some people just don’t get it and nothin you say will change their mind.
I think Cox did his best managerial work in the 2004 and 2005 postseasons, yet we still got bounced early. Cox made very good decisions. I remember him outmanaging, I remember getting the sense that Phil Gardner was learning from Bobby and used similar decisions to get Houston to the World Series.
The decisions that managers makes in a game rarely have an effect on the outcome. The players still have to perform. To say that a different player in the same situation would’ve have a different result is asinine Mr, Lentz. You are a complete fool.
Do I agree with Bobby continuing to use Norton? No, but I wouldn’t say that is costing the Braves a playoff birth when we’re playing better than anyone in baseball and have a good chance of making the postseason if we can take care of Florida. That, the team chemistry, the feeling that the Braves feel like they can’t lose, that they’re not giving up, the camaraderie, etc, I do attribute to Bobby Cox you moron. He was scoreboard watching a month ago before anyone else in his office burning down his stogies.
The Players are playing hard to finish the year. Every player who has played for Bobby want to play hard for Bobby because Bobby has given them a shot. I can connect the dots between the 2 and conclude that the players know Bobby hasn’t given up on them THIS year, and they don’t want Bobby to be at home on OCT 7. But you won’t give Bobby any of that. You are one complete idiot, and I’m sad I have to resort to resort to name calling…but reap what you sow you a-hole.
wow, this blog is really heating up again after the down time following the cincinatti sweep. Nice to see everyone getting excited.had an opportunity to go to the game tommorow, but other stuff got in the way (man do I hate other stuff). Gonna try and be there this weekend to watch the braves make it into the playoffs.
The Marlins always scare me.. Just because they are behind us right now, doesn’t mean they will just roll over and give up.. They are coming to play hard because they to have a shot at the WC, and the Braves better not take them for granted..
We have momentum, we are at home, and this game still scares me.. Jurrgens will show a lot tonight if he is poised and pitches a great game.. It seems like we have our best guys coming up in the next few games, so seeing some dominating pitching performances by the Braves pitchers this series would be great.. I like our chances when we are throwing JJ, Vazquez, Hanson, and Hudson out there in 4 consecutive nights.. We need every win we can possibly get.. It would be awesome if we can win out and get into the playoffs..
Come on Bravos.. This is the time to prove to your fans that you have what it takes to get to the playoffs.. Once you get there, anything can happen.. Just ask the Marlins what a WC team can do in the playoffs.. Just get in and take care of business..
Thanks, RHR — it was terrace seats (203) that I got the last time I blindly opted for the pig in the poke you get from the Braves site.
Hated ‘em — it was a beautiful sunny day, and I was under some kind of overhang (the seats in the level above, of course).
That’s one reason I’d like to be able to specify a particular row in addition to a particular section number. (And I’d still like to pick my own seat in the row.)
I guess I sound like a socially retarded fussbudget, huh?
Thanks, though!!!
(Looks like I’m gonna have to call ‘em up. Maybe I can text them?)
Carroll, if the Braves make the playoffs, erasing a 7.5 game deficit with 3 weeks left in the season, and win a playoff series, then lose in the NLCS, the blog’s managerial experts will opine that A. the team did it in spite of Bobby and B. it’s further proof that he can’t manage in the post season. Personally this is the most fun I have had as a Braves fan in about 4 years, and I like that a bunch of relatively young guys are playing key roles.
7 of 7 – amazing stretch to end the season (Rocks would have to go 5-1 to hold us off)
6 of 7 – I still think we’d have a great shot with only needing the Rocks to play .500 ball
5 of 7 – Need a little help and the Rocks to get swept in one series or lose 2 of 3 in both, but still possible
4 of 7 – This is where the slim to none chance of postseason comes in
In reality, the best possibility is to go for the tie and play our way in with a home game at the Ted next Tuesday night.
All in all, I’m very excited to see where things head after tonight. I think the team will come out firing early and with their A game. Hopefully we can knock out Annibal early and get the Ted rocking in anticipation of the week to come!
No problem, as someone who hates talking on the phone I know it can be incredibly frustrating. It’s too late for it this season, but for next year I’d also suggest going to the future ticket window at the park if you know you’re planning on coming to more games later in the season. Since the sellers and seating charts are right in front of you it’s easy to specify a particular row in a particular section.
First of all, I’m of the belief that McLouth, Church, Loaf’s surge and Prado are the difference in the lineup. Loaf early in the year, Schafer, Francoeur and KJ were killing this team early. NOBODY can deny that.
N8, I agree. I would say (this is for Doc Holiday) that the combination of those players would’ve been worth 3-4 wins over the first 50 or whatever games you were talking about, but any one particular player (in this case, Prado, but it goes for just about anyone not named Mauer or Pujols) would not come anywhere near a 3-4 win player over 50 games. They just don’t.
Take Chipper last year. Played 130 games, won the batting title, OPSed 1.044, played + defense according to UZR, and was just about as awesome at baseball as one can be. How many wins was he worth, according to the pythagorean record? 7.6. So, over 50 games, he’s what, a 2(ish) win player? And you think Prado, who is nowhere near the player Chipper was last year, offensively or defensively, is gonna double that? I mean, if you do, I’d love to see your actual proof, not just “but Kelly sucked and I wanted Prado and boo-hoo!” or whatever. Please. Actually prove it.
Goldenglove, no way its a sellout. I think they cut off tic sales on Internet maybe couple hours before game time, and Im not sure of the reason. If it ws because of a sellout, they would sell Standing Room Only tics.

74 Dawg – As a consistant basher I will promise you one thing. If this team even makes the playoffs I will not complain about one damn thing from April through September. I will call that mission accomplished for the season.
My second promise is I wont even complain about one thing in mOctober either. Unless Bobby pinch hits Norton with the winning run on third with less than two out and we lose by one. Then I reserve the right for a mulligan.
Well, the Dodgers lost again today. They lost 3 of 4 to the mighty Pirates. They are now only 1 up on Philly in the lost column, the team that eliminated them last year.
I don’t see LA laying down next weekend against COL, even if they wrap up home field, because they aren’t playing that good of ball. Ideally, you want to be playing good baseball heading into October. On top of that, LA has had no issue beating COL this year.. I really don’t see COL taking that series next weekend. If MIL can steal a game at Coors, I think we’re golden, even if we lose 1 to Florida.
Josh Johnson (flu) will start Tuesday against the Braves.
Johnson was scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday with the illness. In addition to Tuesday’s outing, he is also scheduled start this Sunday against Philadelphia.
Source: MLB.com
I hate to bring up the past, but remember back when you said Kelly was an all-star and the next coming of Jesus Christ and Prado was nothing more than a fringe utility player?
Yeah, THAT guy…
Sorry, had to do that to ya buddy, BUT I do agree w/ your 5:25 post
Regardless if you are pro-Bobby or anti-Bobby. FW has made a decision to allow BC the grace to ride off into the sunset next year and to receive the good byes from the Sports World that he deserves. But make no mistake FW’s decision to do so speaks volumes for how he feels about BC’s managerial decisions this season. And while some on here want to deify Bobby, clearly FW doesn’t hold to that opinion or else he would be resigning him to a new 2-3 year deal.
Forgive my boneheaded Locke comment the other night. It was late, that’s my excuse! I totally forgot he was in that trade though. I was reading the comments fast before bed (I had to be up in 3 hours for training) and I thought I read the Pirates were interested in him. Makes sense now…they obviously were. And you were right, there’s no way we trade for MuCutch at that time after seeing our own CF prospect falter. Wren made the right move at the time. Though if Wren had a crystal ball, give me the 1990 Bonds look-a-like now.
P-Town–yeah, yeah, I knew that was coming, LOL! For the record, never hated on Prado, just stated that I wasn’t convinced of his ability over a full season (and I’ve been more than pleasantly surprised so far this year) and I think Kelly is still a good player and has been unlucky this year. I was mostly taking issue with people saying Kelly is some sort of Norton-esque player, which he’s not. But yeah, lemme have it. For now.
And note that I always said I liked Prado’s game and particularly his role with the team as Chipper’s backup and part-time 2B and whatnot…
So yeah I can see the point some are making, but what are you going to do now? Go with Chan Ho Park?!
Now there’s a move I can get behind. I’ll write Manuel first thing tomorrow morning…
P.S.–Next coming of Jesus Christ? Now you’re putting words in my mouth, dude, LOL!

Here is a seating chart you can click on the sections and see the view you would have from that section http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/atl/ballpark/seating_and_pricing.jsp

Lentz…

Second, Carroll I wanted to ask if you heard or saw anything from the braves last night after the unbelievable stupidity by the cardinals? Reaction? I would be interested to see the reaction of the players after that kind of loss.

Bobby's Cox

5:17 pm

Here’s the deal:

If not, I’m just not convinced of the argument.
