I think for the Braves to pull this off they need Chipper to be big this week. Anyone remember ‘99 when Chipper basically carried the Braves for a week. He got off to a good start last night and will need to come up big tonight with Johnson on the mound. I gotta be honest, tonight’s game scares me.

Did his agent mention a “david wright type deal” again?

Did that really happen? It couldn’t of, right?

Sigh…..

solely focused on RBI’s and the perception that because the guy was “clutch” player, he deserved similar millions that a top 20 player like Wright would deservedly get. But they were just doing what an agent is suppose to do.

WHY???

Since the all-star break, the Braves have been the best offensive team in the league. They have scored more runs than any team in the NL since the break… they’re 3rd in post-all-star HR’s (behind only the Phillies and Rockies, both of whom play in MUCH more HR-friendly parks)… and they’re 3rd in post-all-star team average.

Hitting with RISP fallacy.

I am using the every other game attendance strategy this week…Went last night, going tomorrow night, Friday night and Sunday afternoon. Would go every night if the damn beers weren’t $6.75 a pop and a hot dog for $5, they should have a throwback on prices this last week to the prices from 1991.

Alonso

The manager hasn’t gotten a single RBI or strikeout this season. When we were going badly, and while we have been going like gangbusters.

BUT, unlike an a-hole type manager like Ozzie Guillen, Bobby instills the confidence in his players that allows them to come together at times like these. When 3-4 players are flat out doing badly (earlier this season), it is hard to make up for it with good performance from the others.

But when solutions are found, a manager like Bobby Cox instills the confidence in his players that allows for this sort of finish.

YES, I give him a LOT of credit for this run.

Definitely agree on Vazquez reaching his potential under a manager like Bobby. How about Prado, Diaz, LaRoche, Infante and Moylan? Would these guys be this good for another manager??

Go Bravos!! Close it out strong. (Johnson scares me a bit, though!)

Dear CB, I don’t even read Paul Lentz because I view him as an agent provacateur. My high degree of OBJECTIVITY about ALL teams I follow cause much criticism(and worse) to be directed towards me. I will NEVER drink the Kool-Aid about any person or anything. It enables me to have perspective and appreciate what I’m seeing and not what I hope to see.

Alonzo, I’m not among the most ardent fire-Bobby folks here, but I have been pretty critical of his in-game decision making. I think he’s the best LEADER in the game, but as a strategist, he’s no better than marginal.

Bobby almost blew this whole thing the other night against the Nats.

Runner on 3rd, 1 out, Bobby needed a pinch hitter. Infante, KJ, Church, Conrad, and others were all on the bench. Who did he go with?

Greg Norton. Greg friggin’ Norton!!!! Despite that fact that he is literally being out-hit this year by 2 members of our starting rotation. And as bad as he’s been overall, he’s been EVEN WORSE against righties (hitting around .100), and there was a righty on the mound at the time Bobby called on him.

Surprise, surprise!! Norton was unable to get the run home.

We won it in 10 innings, but no thanks to Bobby there. His continuing to send Norton out there through the first half of the season is excusable. Norton was good here last year, and he was trying to get him going. But WHEN WE’RE 2 GAMES OUT WITH A WEEK TO GO????????

Bobby’s a great leader, and he deserves some credit for this Braves run. But keep in mind that his ineptness as an in-game tactician nearly ended the Braves post-season run against the worst team in the league.

What I’m saying is that the Braves have been hitting well with RISP. That’s not a repeatable skill. If you’re scoring runs because of your high avg with RISP, your offense isn’t as good as it’s performing.

I think rox will play up to their capabilities………..4-2 that is. They are not a .500 ball club, so they wont go 3-3. So braves will need to sweep the rest of the games to tie them. So Hudson hasn’t exactly been going deep into games. He’s been effective, but we are probably looking at 90 or so pitches for his ceiling, based on his previous outings. Soriano has gone three straight days, and Moylan is coming off two consecutive including a 2-inning outing. It will not be certain whether either will be available this evening. I think we will likely see Kawakami this evening pitch a couple innings with some O’Flaherty and Gonzalez thrown in. If Kawakami does get in, I think it’s unlikely that he replaces Lowe on Friday.

Anders, post season, the Bravos’ revenue stream would be enhanced by the additional media (game coverage), promotional sales, licensing, etc. Fans in the stands count, certainly, but teams make most of their dough with other generators.

I think DOB or Carroll had a piece a short while ago in which Terry McGuirk discussed the advantages of post season to a team’s bottomline. Bigger revenues makes for a better case for increased payroll.

Clearly more games equals more revenue. But nobody can guarantee a post season (the Yanks are closest but even they missed last season with a $220 mil payroll). That said, organizational budgets are built on likely revenue streams. To that end, even when in this race the Braves are struggling to attract large crowds. Sorry, but if I’m Braves management I’d be hard pressed to say to Liberty “Spend more $’s and they will come.”

Presumably Hudson will get the last start when his turn comes up again.

I thought that last night’s game was the biggest game of the season. Best Fish can do is tie the Rockies. In reality, they’re done.

I doubt that the Fish have completely switched from “we’re eliminated” mode into “let’s play spoiler” mode. I expect them to be flat tonight and tomorrow. Bullpen got used heavily last night. Could be a factor tonight and tomorrow if the Braves can get to the starters early.

Johnson is coming off the flu. We’ll see how much stamina he has. Hope the Braves make him work early. Get him out of the game and go after the bullpen.

The biggest worries for Braves fans right now has to be the bullpen. Six games to go, all in a row. Braves starters need to go seven strong every night. Soriano, Moylan, Gonzalez, and O’Flaherty are going to have to pitch til their arms fall off. I wish that KK would get some work, as that might make the difference between success and failure over the remainder of this run.

The Braves absolutely have the arms to win the next six in a row. I just hope that Bobby makes use of them all.

Biggest pitching performance in recent weeks … Moylan wriggling off the hook in Washington after giving up the lead off triple to Willie Harris. If that run scores, Braves don’t get to extras.

Brett Esterson, now bite your tongue. EVERYBODY knows that ESPN hates the Braves. Some may want a “link” or they won’t believe it.

All right on the board! Gotta hold em. If we keep them at 2 runs, Braves will win this game.

I love how people keep saying Atlanta is just not a baseball town, NO, Atlanta is not a sports town. They don’t support any of their sports. Falcons, Thrashers, Hawks, Georgia Tech none of those teams draw well.
