I wonder why we pitch Soriano in a 4 run game, what if we need him for save situations the next 4 games I think that happened when we went on our last skid

And, it must be said, that the Stockman roo-nads (where’d that guy end up, anyways), were the least successful Australian good-luck charm in the history of organized baseball.

But, Moylan’s head is gonna get us to the promised land. I know he lost us a coupla/three games right off. But that head is the ticket, folks. I know it.

Fast Facts

• The Braves have now won seven straight and 15 of their last 17 games.

• Jair Jurrjens won his fourth straight start. He has allowed just two runs in 29 innings during that span.

• Chipper Jones hit his 426th career HR, tying Billy Williams for 40th all-time.

• Martin Prado scored a run. He’s now scored a run in 11 straight games to tie Andruw Jones (2001) for the longest streak of games with a run scored in the last 25 years.

We need some first class Mets style choking from the Rockies and Phils the rest of the way.

Why do I get the most nervous this time a night? The game’s over. The waiting and wondering is killing me.

They can win ‘em all but you never know what might happen. One little thing could go against us and it would tip the scales. A bad call, a bad ump. An injury. They can do it but then again, not if they’re only going to get three f***in’ hits. I need to see more fight from this team.

There are games like on Friday and Saturday when you just know we’re going to win and then there are games like Sunday where you get down early and you feel like they have no chance. The fact that they ended up winning is probably one of the most amazing things that’s happened this season.

Unfortunately, they do tend to hit quite a bit better on the road or at least it seems like it. I just want to feel the confidence that they’re not going to run themselves out of innings when they have a chance to blow the game open. I mean, three walks to start off the game? Why would you swing at anything unless it’s right down the middle at that point?

This is the hard part. It’s going to really suck if we don’t make it and I hope and maybe even pray they do but I just want it to be over with already. If we lose in the first round, I can live with it. Of course, if we play the Dodgers, it’s ass kicking time. Still, it’s getting to be a bit rough on the nerves.

What a month to be a Braves fans? Everyone had written them off & rightfully so at the time, but they are bacccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. This brings back great memories of the early 80s’ & the early 90’s. It’s almost got that 1993 feel to it, but not quite the same, close enough though.

The Rockies are sweating right now, but may enter into to full panic if the Braves beat Josh Johnson & the Marlins tomorrow evening. All the Braves can do is keep winning, one night at a time. The Rockies are not exactly in a tail spin or anything, it’s just the Braves are winning virtually every game so it appears they are playing bad ball.

I remember saying they needed to finish the season 21-2 after that nasty loss in Houston when Hanson pitched, but didn’t believe it would happen, but they are 15-2 in that span to this point. If they win out they will at the least probably force a playoff with the Rockies.

Even the East isn’t out of reach, but it’s close. Can you imagine the pandemonium that would hit Philly if the Braves ran the table, Rockies the same or 5-1 & the Phillies lose 5 of 6 to close the season. The odds are long, but how great would that be?

Carroll Rogers………….How did you become a Dallas fan? I grew up in Arkansas in the 80’s. CBS would show Dallas games in the part of Arkansas I lived in. Like the Braves, the Cowboys pretty much SUCKED A$$ in the mid-late 80’s.

In 1991, both the Cowboys and Braves started to turn it around. 1995 was a GREAT YEAR for me as a sports fan. The Cowboys won the Super Bowl and the Braves won the World Series. Little did I know that that would be the last time either of my teams would win a championship.

Eric from MO……….if the Braves, Rockies, and Phillies all finish with the same record, then Sportscaster is correct: The Braves would host the Phillies. The loser would play the Rockies for the Wild Card.

However, if the Braves and Phillies finish tied for first….and the Rockies have a better record…..then the Braves would host the Phillies to determine the division title.

If the Braves and Phillies finish tied for first…..and the Rockies have the worse record……then the Braves would win the division title based on head to head match-up…..and the Phillies would get the Wild Card.

Mitchell,

I remember the year the Braves won 15 straight. I think it was the late 1990’s or so. The Dodgers snapped that streak at Dodger stadium against Greg Maddux (I was at that game).

I remember in the middle of that streak that there were a handful of games the team should’ve probably lost, but squeaked out. The fact that this team is doing the same is actually hope that they have a few games coming up where they’re gonna convincingly demolish the opposition. Let’s hope it starts tomorrow.

P.W.Hjort: “The Cardinals’ offense makes me drool. Of course, Atlanta’s pitching staff makes everyone else drool.”

WHY???

Since the all-star break, the Braves have been the best offensive team in the league. They have scored more runs than any team in the NL since the break… they’re 3rd in post-all-star HR’s (behind only the Phillies and Rockies, both of whom play in MUCH more HR-friendly parks)… and they’re 3rd in post-all-star team average.

The Cardinals could just as easily say they’re drooling over OUR offense… not just our pitching.

BELIEVE…

Since I started putting this out there (right around the U.S. Open tennis tournament, if you remember seeing it…as I got the idea from Melanie Oudin ’shoe’ —she had it written / stamped on the side of her tennis shoe during her improbable cinderella run while beating those top seeds to make it to the final 8…) it looks as though I am not the only one who has the same feeling of BELIEF.

The Braves management just should give out…and not tell people to print out their own placard …30,000 placards to everyone who goes to the games (each & every game) over the final 6 games. Since we are more than just in this race…no matter what happens over the next couple of games…however, I can’t see how we ever lose, by the way. Just sayin’…

Since the game we loss…back on September 9…the night Hanson pitched a shutout for 8 innings…only to see Bobby Cox turn it over to Soriano in the ninth…where he proceded to give up 3 H’s, 1 BB and 2 runs (Bobby, I have not forgiven you for that move yet…no way Hanson should have ever come out of this game…)…the Braves bounced back to win…7 in a row…and have now won 15 out of the last 17. I just started to feel that we were on the brink of something really special…

And it is only to going to get better, I BELIEVE…and so do a helluva lot of other Braves faithful…

does anybody like Greg? I sure don’t but he sure has had enough opportunities to change the view of the Atlanta fans. And sorry to say but fans don’t want to come out because they don’t take the braves seriously! How many times down the stretch have they fluked a season? Or they would actually get to the playoffs and exit as fast. They have gotten our hopes up a few times the past 16years and let us down every time but once. It kinda get’s redundant and I know (being a fan all my life) that most likely I would come to the game and they lose season/hype over. I know it sounds stupid but this is Atlanta and we recently revamped two off our other sports Hawks and Falcons & it’s already fall. And if you live in any other state and you’re so mad about the crowd why don’t you fill up your tank come down here to go back sad that’s on you… our drive is much shorter and easier to watch on tv so we can just change the channel! lmao

Question for the die hard Cox Must Go Tribe. Explain the current run, which comes from when the team did not seem to have a chance. Isn’t this run the sort of thing that a “palyer’s coach” might come up with, because he inspires his team, and does not give up on them, Ozzie Guillen style, at the first opportunity? Instead of going through the routine of “Cox’s bizarre and bungled decisions that cost us games”, how about considering “how did Vazquez suddenly find his way to the next level”? And “is Bobby’s loyalty to his players now paying off in this run?”

It’s good baseball, folks. It looks so much like ‘91 and ‘92, that one has to wonder whether this is the hallmark of the one constant between those teams — Bobby Cox. (Heck, if you did in the back issues of this pape, I’m sure you can find some similar inexplicable along the lines of Greg Norton)

OK, those who know Cox is nothing but a nose picking goober who is baseball’s Chauncey Gardiner — time to explain how the Braves have found themselves in this playoff pickle, despite the best efforts of Frenchy and KJ and Schaefer and Norton. I’m sure you’ll enjoy yourselves.

EXPLANATION: The BRAVES players have overcome their tutors and management and found a collective will to win completely lacking previous to late season 2009. There’s nothing like knowing you can. That’s nothing management can teach, you just have to grow up, and jell as a team. I was saying in May, we have too many new parts to expect much this year. But management’s late moves in July have brought in just enough fire-power to squeek into the play-offs this year. That’s not to say some of BC’s moves in August with the pitching didn’t hurt, but ultimately it’s on the players not BOBBY to win. The team is mature enough now to realize that. That’s why they’re winning. BOBBY wasn’t that bad then, and he’s not that good now, except he creates an atmosphere around the team to allow maturation to develop. Hats off to BC. It’s his greatest strength.

This was just posted on MLBTR:

Jeff Francoeur Craves Multiyear Deal
By Tim Dierkes [September 29 at 9:00am CST]
Mets right fielder Jeff Francoeur would like to discuss a multiyear deal with the team to buy out his arbitration years, according to Newsday’s David Lennon. Francoeur, 26 in January, has a .308/.333/.491 line in 291 plate appearances for the Mets since coming over in the trade with Atlanta.

Francoeur is already under team control through 2011. Given the limited sample of playing time, the Mets might be inclined to focus on a 2010 contract. Francoeur earned $3.375MM in ‘09, and he shouldn’t expect a huge raise as a second-year arbitration player for hitting .277/.306/.418 overall. Even if Francoeur offered to sign a two-year, $8MM contract, the Mets would be guaranteeing unnecessary millions.

Isn’t it GREAT to be able to speculate regarding a three way race for both the NL East division winner and the WC winner AND have the BRAVES in that three-way? I’m as giddy as 1990 when I predicted to several of my friends that the BRAVES would be the WS champs in 1991. And I didn’t miss by much. Call people. Tell them to buy tickets. And go to the game. Fill the TED. The team needs it. Let’s GO BRAVES.

Fact remains(after last night) the Braves have still lost 84% of the games they have played where they scored less than 4 runs. Even with our great pitching that is 4% worse than the “Rule of 64″ says. Don’t tempt fate (or stay too long with Hudson).

Just score 4!!!

I am so excited!! Every game, it’s clenched stomach from the 1st pitch on, everything counts but I believe this team can do it! I can’t get to a game this week but I’m going with my sons & my Mom on Sunday! I just pray they’re still in it by then! I know people are going to want to rip on my fave Brave Matty D, he did look bad last night even against the lefty they put in but he did get a walk at the end! Everyone takes turns coming up big, last night it was JJ & Chipper. That’s what I love about this team, I want it to continue!! Go Braves! I don’t care if football has started, I want more baseball in Atlanta!!!!!

Uh, oh. JEFFREY cravings have arisen. METS, ask the BRAVES how that plays out. There is no good end. He’s not professional enough to let his play on the field not be affected by his mind.

NOTE to JEFF F.:
Forget your wants and concentrate on your craft. A stellar natural talent is a terrible thing to waste.

Jeff Francoeur Craves Multiyear Deal

Did his agent mention a “david wright type deal” again? Or was it A Rod she mentioned? I can’t remember.

CB….no problem, it is Pierce’s. Not sure which direction you are coming from but you can see it from I 64. You have to take the Lightfoot exit and follow the signage carefully. Actually I will be there this Sunday as my son is playing baseball for VT against William & Mary. Thanks for reminding me. Oh yeah, the Cheese Shoppe is the good sandwich place in Historic Williamsburg some of us mentioned earlier.

I hope people really make the effort to get down to Turner Field this week. I will be there Friday. I wish I could get there sooner. I just hope people get out and support this team because they deserve it.

Around the races

• The Phillies continue to struggle, and this time it was Cole Hamels who had a rough night, Marc Narducci writes. Philadelphia’s lead over Atlanta is four games … because the Braves just never, ever lose. Jair Jurrjens shut down the Marlins, the 16th victory in the last 19 games for the Braves, and seventh in a row. A playoff chase has come out of nowhere for Atlanta, writes Mark Bradley.

Why Jurrjens won:

1. He was very efficient: 17 of 28 batters saw three pitches or less, and 21 of 28 saw four pitches or less; he averaged 3.29 pitches per plate appearance.
2. Hitters went 1-for-7 versus off-speed pitches.
3. He fought back to retire 75 percent of batters with 2-0, 2-1 or 3-ball counts (MLB average: 54 percent).

Bob Ford wonders if the Phillies might blow it, and naturally he brings up 1964. There’s no time like the present for the Phillies to start winning, writes Rich Hofmann.

Impressive numbers for JJ last night, I knew he fought hard, that #3 is baseball godsy.

CB, The Marlins have not DECIDED to lay down, but they are through!!

Some interesting things to watch tonoght for Braves fans:

(1)Watch Uggla guess on EVERY pitch, take hitable pitches up in the zone EARLY, and chase the breaking ball in the dirt to strike out. Watch how the 3rd strike swing will end with him on one knee and the MORONIC expression on his face as he walks to the dugout is priceless.

(2)Watch Fredo’s facial expressions in the dugout. He makes Bambi, after his dad got whacked by the hunter, look like Sonny Liston circa 1960.

(3)Do not concern yourself IF first 2 hitters reach for the Fish in any inning, this only provides them the opportunity to unveil situational hitting on a par with Sonny Jackson and Vic Correll.

Relax!! Watch the Rockies on the Dish. The stars are aligned–AND aligned with the pitching to back it–the next 6 are in the bag and do you REALLY think the Rocks are going to win 4 out of 6. I can understand your angst because this pessimist even worries when Florida plays Vandy, but I really don’t want you guys losing sleep.

I was BIG TIME wrong about all this transpiring, should have taken into account the shut down ability of this staff against the weak part of the schedule–and that is NOT a back hand slap BECAUSE everybody plays the same teams, same number of times–and also should have looked at Rockies’schedule.

You are IN—MUCH to my disappointment!!!

Thanks for the breakdown Sids
By the way I think Cox should have pinch hit Norton last night in the 8th instead of Omar for the righty, lefty match up. Norty would have stroked a single instead of popping out to first.

I am still calling it…it will take a late inning heroic effort by somebody to pull out a win(or 2) if we are to make the playoffs. Who will the hero be? Why do I see Greg Norton rounding the bases?
