abwright………..Peter Moylan and Garret Anderson are the only 2 people that Bobby stuck with that actually turned out to be good moves.
If you were to “add” the impact of Bobby sticking with Moylan and Garret…and “subtract” the negative impact that sticking with Jeff Bennett (until he broke his hand), Jeff Francoeur (until Frank Wren traded him), Kelly Johnson (until his injury opened the door for Prado), and Greg Norton (whom Bobby has stuck with all year long) has caused the Braves……..then I’m sure that you’ll get a “net” negative impact on the Braves of Bobby sticking with “his boys”.
I was wrong about Moylan. I admitted that at the start of the month. He’s made up for his abysmal first couple of months of the season. I still think that Moylan should have started the first part of the year on a rehab assignment in Triple A.

I thought it was RICHMOND 38 – V.M.I. 28. The KEYDETS hung 28 on the SPIDERS d, and were tough, tougher than MIKE LONDON’s troops thought they’d be. Hopefully, a lesson learned. Stop reading you press clippings, and concentrate on my wife’s SPANISH classes, err, football.

P. W. Hjort…….your 9:34pm posting is making you look worse and worse.
Those 2 games that we blew against the Rockies in the 4 game series right before the All-Star Break cost us 2 games as far as being behind the Phillies is concerned.
However, those 2 games cost us 4 games in the standings with the Rockies. With those 2 losses, not only did we lose 2 games……the Rockies didnt lose 2 games. That is a NET LOSS OF 4.
Let me ask you this….lets say that it’s the beginning of the season. The Braves and Rockies start a 4 game series with 0-0 record. Obviously that means we are tied. If we split the series, then both of us would be 2-2, still tied.
However, if we sweep them (which we should have done right before the All-Star Break….if you watched those games, then you would know why)………then we would be 4-0 while the Rockies would be 0-4….which would put us 4 games ahead of them in the Wild Card Standings.
How hard is that to understand? Right now we are 3 losses behind the Rockies. If we win those 2 games we gave away…….then we would be 1 game ahead of the Rockies in the Wild Card. So knowing that, again I ask……..how is that not a 4 game swing in the Wild Card Standings?

P. W. Hjort………..my point all along is that we should have swept that 4 game series…….we played good enough to win all 4 games. However, Bobby Cox blew the 1st and 4th games of that series. That is why I keep insisting that we should have won all 4 games.
Also, here is another example of Bobby mismanaging a game. Who can forget Bobby bringing in Jeff Bennett in the bottom of the 9th inning of the last game of the Red Sox series? As soon as I saw Bennett trotting out there, I knew the game was not going to go to extra innings.

I think Molina was hit in the leg with a foul ball. I’m listening on radio, so I’m fuzzy on the details. He continued catching for a couple more pitches, but the Cards pulled him when he limped out to the mound to talk to Wainwright.
BTW. Rockies have a man on second with no one out in the bottom of the 6th.

While Matt Stairs has struggled with the average this year pinch hitting……he does have 5 homers and 17 RBIs………with 4 pinch hit homers. Plus Stairs has 22 walks….vs. Norton’s 18.
Stairs’ low average can be tolerated because of his threat to hit the long ball. The 4 pinch hit homers are a testament to that. However, Greg Norton couldnt hit his way our of a paper bag.

Again, you’re comparing the two games we lost to a what if scenario had we won when really, you need to be comparing it to where we were. Say the two games of the series are rained out and they’re were to be played this afternoon before the Rockies played. The Braves would be 84-68 and the Rockies would be 85-67. A 1-game deficit. Then, the Braves lose both of the games. They’re 84-70 and the Rockies are 87-67. A 3-game deficit. I get what you’re saying, I really do. You’re saying that if the Braves win those two games, they’re 86-68 and the Rockies are 85-69, a 1-game lead for the Braves. But that’s hypothetical and doesn’t represent a “swing in the standings”, it represents a “swing in the what could have been standings”. I don’t find that productive.

P. W. Hjort………Regardless, those 2 losses to the Rockies are really critical right now. Instead of having to play good ball down the stretch to get into the playoffs……..we have to play GREAT BALL down the stretch to even have a chance to make the playoffs.
I’m just saying that if Bobby Cox did a better job of managing (and of not standing by Greg Norton as a pinch hitter)……..then the Braves would have a much better record than we do now. Instead, we have to rely on help from others.
