Steve from OH………I feel that in today’s game, many managers “coddle” their pitchers. 120-125 pitches is not “too many” pitches for a pitcher to throw in a game. I would much rather see a starting pitcher want to go as far as he can in a game.
Wrainwright isnt a rookie. He’s shown that he’s a workhorse. LaRussa simply managed his A$$ off that inning. While most managers would have brought in the lefty Miller to pitch to Giambi……….LaRussa accessed the situation and felt that Wrainwright was his best option.
Meanwhile……….YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Big time pinch hit homer there by Ludwick.
Oh how the Braves can only dream of having a pinch hitter who can hit homers……….well, we did have a 3 run pinch jack from Brooks Conrad, which helped us beat Washington earlier this year.
3 more outs by the Cardinals, and we’ll be 2 games out in the loss column.

I hear ya Soph….this is the first time I’ve been able to watch the Rockies play. Every other night the past few days I just had to keep refreshing on Yahoo. They seem to get slower late in the game for some reason.

glord–I still like Morton too. Don’t know if he’ll ever be “good” in a #2 starter sense, but I think he’ll stick around in somebody’s rotation for a while barring injury. Can’t say I’m nearly as high on Gorkys. 4th OF IMO.

Exactly my point about LaRUSSA. He considered his started the BEST option in that circumstance. What’s the CARDS bull-pen like anyway? And BTW, he was not good while here as a player.

At best, Charlie Morton will be a 5th starter/spot starter/long relief type. I was simply AMAZED that Frank Wren was able to give up garbage to get a good centerfielder/lead-off type hitter with some pop in his bat with a VERY PAYROLL FRIENDLY contract.
We will not miss Morton at all.

Steve – I am not one of these guys that says I know a guy that knows a guy ……. But I was told by someone that inside the Braves that they projected Morton as a #3 started and was the key piece in the Mclouth trade.

richbrave……I could care less what type of player LaRussa was. He’s a freaking manager now. Dude simply manages his A$$ off.
In the 1991 play-off series against the Pirates, Jim Leyland out managed Bobby the first 5 games of that series. However when you have Steve Avery and John Smoltz pitch back to back shutouts in Games 6&7……..that can overcome pretty much any deficiency a manager brings.
In 1996, LaRussa out managed Bobby the first 4 games of that series. However, Maddux, Smoltz, and Glavine were dominating in Games 5,6, & 7 to send the Braves to the World Series.
My point all along has been……..when has Bobby Cox managed an inning like LaRussa did in that bottom of the 8th inning? Certainly not at any time this year. Bobby either manages “by the book”……..or by sticking with his favorite players.

Braves Challenge …. I am an out of town Braves fan that only can make it to one or two games a year. It is soooo disappointing to see soooo many empty seats at Turner Field … I challege all you local fans to be at the games next week and fill those seats up and cheer these Braves into the playoffs.

The Cards are doing us a solid tonight. You know, I am starting to believe the Braves have a shot at this. I think the series against Florida is going to be huge. I think sweeping the remaining 4 games from the Nats is possible because right now they are the worst team I have seen in quite a while but the Marlins are a very good team. Taking 2 of 3 from them is crucial,

glord1………..whoever your “source” is on Charlie Morton being projected as a #3 starter is being overly optimistic. Dude’s a BUM. Simple as that.
While there is a chance that he can develop at the ML level with the Pirates……the Braves simply could not afford to let him SUCK A$$ at the ML level for a couple of years while he learns how to pitch. We are trying to win games NOW.
