LAD losing last night was huge for us………..because as I said before………..that keeps StL interested in home field advantage (winning it), and since they are 3 GB they really need to beat the rockies. Plus we need LAD to keep losing in order for them not to clinch the home field advantage until the last day of the season, since they still play the rockies on their last series.
NO MORE BOBBY

DOB – Partayyy!! (OK, that might be a bit extreme. Please read. Respond if you’d like. Thank you.)
Why can I hear Adam Sandler saying this?
September 26th, 20091:43 pm
no, im not from mty but I lived there for almost 5 years (4 years + 11 months). Just got back home last feb. Nice city, but way too dangerous for my taste, LOL

Utley has more speed, more power, hits .300, and is the best defensive 2B in the game. Utley’s in a class of his own. The better comp for Prado is Freddy Sanchez.
No doubt about that, but I meant Prado’s swing reminds me of Chase Utley, but with more speed and less power
September 26th, 20091:45 pm
Because you have know idea what Adam Sandler is like…
Vazquez has been the team Cy Young winner
Prado had he not had the head issue would’ve been the team MVP
But team MVP is B-Macc
The offense he contributed is insurmountable, if he had a year like Chipper did at the plate, then our AWFense would’ve been among the bottomdwellers in the league…
Plus B-Macc Defense has Improved…People don’t notice that because a lot of runner steal bases off of him as a result of our pitching staff’s inability to hold runners on well and keep them honest
B-Macc’s Footwork behind the plate has been the part of his game that has had the most improvement over the years people think he sucks at throwing out runners but usually its the fault of the pitcher as to why they steal on him…
September 26th, 20091:46 pm
John (yes...I am an ass. But I am happy Bobby gets one more year...) Smoltz...
September 26th, 20091:47 pm
No worries Atlanta…
Spoke to my teammates. We have decided to help the Braves out…and we will win the next 2 here in Colorado. Braves will be 1 back in the loss column after tomorrow afternoon.
Wait. Thats a joke right?
David Athens, Al
September 26th, 20091:48 pm
sorta feel sorry for Nats ………. NOT!!!!!!!
Virtually Anyone But Vazquez
JJJ and Hanson have to be untouchable. Vazquez should be right behind them as untouchable. Virtually all other pitchers in play for trade IMO.
geez. 3 errors in 3 innings for the Gnats….poor guys.
September 26th, 20091:49 pm
If the braves get lucky and get into October then I’m Putting Money in on a Party at your house!
I don’t think it will happen but you remain loyal despite myself and other who have wrote off the team after losses to the Reds Padres, among others…
I know that you are told to remain unbiased as a beat writer but its nice to see that you have the players backs and think that they can get lucky enough to get into October…

Anybody have a link to a free stream?
and, which station is it on freebaseballradio?
September 26th, 20091:52 pm
Just realized the photos got screwed up in the blog. Please look again for full effect. Besides, it’s not like the game itself is too riveting. (Man, did we mention the Nationals are horrid?)
P. W. Hjort
Seriously, if the Nationals improve their defense they could actually be good.
Bay Area Steve,
September 26th, 20091:53 pm
By the way, if anyone missed the rookie hazing pictures, http://www.talkingchop.com/2009/9/24/1050655/rookie-hazing-2009
September 26th, 20091:54 pm
Now I know the Nats are bad, but scoring a scorcher by LaRoche, that jumps of off Dunn’s backhanded play is just not fair. Should be a hit imho.
Thx for the blog DOB. As allways a welcome and high quality peak into the beat of American Baseball.
Btw, do you remember the woman you met, doing a story on JJJ? Do you by change remember either her name or the magazine she was/is writing for? Thanks a lot if you do!
September 26th, 20091:56 pm
I was checking on something………….JV pitched last night. That means he will be pitching on wednesday against the fish and he would be ready to pitch on monday if that playoff game is needed. Could someone double check on that?
Download stream torrent and you’re set.
Or, indeed, get MLBTV
I see the Rocks going 4-4 to close out the year. They’ll lose at least one in this St. Louis Series, hopefully one against Milwaukee, and 2 of 3 against LA which they’ve struggled all year against.
Best case scenario is they lose the next 2 and 1 against the Brewers and go 3-5.
I’m glad the Braves don’t have any more days off. They’re rolling and off days have seem to slow them down in the past few years and earlier this year. Basically, I love whoever gave us this schedule to finish the year. I really like our chances, and that stems from our great starting pitching core who will give us a chance to win nearly every remaining game, including KK and Medlin in the bullpen in case one of our starters has an off day (Cox has shown he’ll pull a starter and replace them if they struggle early)
September 26th, 20091:57 pm
As for the Braves, they have the second-best record (49-3) in the NL going back to June 28
49-3?!??!!?!? And we’re only 3.5 games back — in the WILD CARD? We should’ve clinched with a record like that long ago!
Scoring change, ol’ Rochy credited with double in third
Lame there goes the shutout.
I have a feeling that Tommy is going to go 5 innings or maybe 6 tops and get pulled.
Lets assume that the Braves do make the playoffs. What will they do with Hanson? If they are already concerned about his innings, will they allow him to start in the playoffs? This will obviously be a great problem to have …but it’s something to think about.
September 26th, 20091:58 pm
Willie Harris is a little pesty …. good hard nose player with limited ability …
The WGNS 1450 station is broadcasting the game on the internet..
Partayyy!! (OK, that might be a bit extreme. Please read. Respond if you’d like. Thank you.)
Who are you and what have you done with DOB?
September 26th, 20091:59 pm
JJJ + Lowe + Vazquez going against the fish, right?
I would have rather have DL against the nats and not the fish.
Leo (If I am a 'rockin...don't bother knockin...) Mazzone
September 26th, 20092:00 pm
That’s it. Hanson, you owe me 100 push-up’s. No more runs allowed…do you hear me? 2.85 ERA you say. Need to get it under 2.80 before the day is over!
TnBrian(Vazquez ace 2010)
September 26th, 20092:01 pm
Yeah, we need to cheer the Braves and celebrate when Colorado loses, but all this stuff about LA and the Cards needing to do this and that is just way too much to think about. It is for me. My head spins when I read all that stuff from y’all. It’s still gonna be tough, tough to get in the playoffs.
Boy, McLouth has looked pretty bad the last few games. Upper cutting a lot of pitches. I think we’re gonna see him go through stretches like this in the future… pull happy.
September 26th, 20092:02 pm
The answer is Lee Stevens and Andres Galaraga.
As for the Braves, they have the second-best record (49-3) in the NL going back to June 28 (we use that date because it’s when the Braves’ season really turned
I think you should use July 10th. Because, you know..
DL has been horrible last 3 outings, he chould not go against the fish.
Thank you, all.
Except Doc; I can’t be droppin’ $14.95 to watch one game.
September 26th, 20092:04 pm
Tomahawkin: Personally, I think I’d still probably go with Escobar or McCann as team MVP. Prado for second-half MVP, yes. But for season, Escobar or McCann — or Vazquez. Prado didn’t get in lineup until June 30, and has had a huge impact since then.
Escobar has led or been second in RISP average in the NL all season, and hit right at .300 with team-high 83 runs, 14 homers, 73 RBI …
McCann has become a team leader on the field and in the clubhouse, and he’s led the Braves in homers and RBI while playing most demanding position and overcome that vision scare early. He’s also led the majors in RISP hitting since break.
September 26th, 20092:05 pm
MARTEEEEEEEEEEN is back to his old self! So, suck on that Prado haters (Keyfago). I love his full-time services. GO BRAVOS!!!!
Lowe won’t be facing the fish. He’s pitted against Livan Hernandez tomorrow.
September 26th, 20092:06 pm
For all the Braves’ local Atlanta fans, if we make it to the playoffs, we really all ought to get together somewhere. Anybody up for that? And remember, we have to pick a family-friendly place so McFann can join us.
Lets assume that the Braves do make the playoffs.
What are the chances of Don Baylor getting a look for Braves manager?
September 26th, 20092:07 pm
AndyC: I think you’re right. With a fully rested ‘pen (they’ve all had two or more days off) and them monitoring Hanson’s innings, I’d expect he’ll be pulled after 5 or 6 if he’s got this big lead. Or even if he doesn’t (since he’ll have thrown a lot of pitches, probably, if the Nats get back in it).
Good lord. Scott Blair is cursed against North Carolina or something. Just shanked a 27-yard FG.
September 26th, 20092:08 pm
Not another rain delay when Tommy’s on his game, please (still want a “smiley” for begging).
Rob from SC
make quick outs for two innings guys.
So much for Garret struggling against a pitcher he’s never seen before
September 26th, 20092:09 pm
How many hits is that for Garret?
GA nearly got that one out. That’s a shot to get it over wall out there.
Raining now. Of course it’s raining — Hanson’s pitching. Dude can’t catch a break from the rain. Uncanny. Baseball gods peeing on rookie’s parade.
Bobby (I asked Chipper to take over for me and he said $#@! you...) Cox
Rotation…next 8 games…
D.O.B. good point about Esco, Only knack I have on him is that he got injured off and on over the last 6 weeks…
83 runs, WOW…I would also love to see Esco steal more bases in the future, but then Again Bobby hates the running game, so I can kill that thought for next season
September 26th, 20092:10 pm
Anderson is six hits from 2,500
I cannot wait to see this movie: http://www.blackdynamitemovie.com/
September 26th, 20092:11 pm
Get your ass behind that plate, catcher! Damn, I think when it rains the team that’s trailing wants to stall the game. Strategy I know, but you’re the Nats!
Skip (If I knew that I was going to live that long...I would have taken better care of myself) Caray...

I honestly don’t think that Big Red will get R.O.Y.
Happ has had a much bigger role in the Phillies getting into the postseason than the braves just missing it…
Big Red pitched with a lot of luck early because he got a lot of run support but over the last month or so the tables have turned as far as luck goes…He should’ve won that game asinst the astros and now just about every start he has gets delayed, WTF!
September 26th, 20092:13 pm
Bay Area Steve,
Thanks for the compliment.
Thank you DOB,
Do you think he can do it as a Brave?
I can’t wait to see this movie: http://tinyurl.com/lnbkww

Steve from OH
September 26th, 20092:14 pm
Willingham kinda remids me of Diaz…
My MVP is Frank Wren. Loaded us up on pitching, made 2 tough (but correct) moves with Glavine and Frenchy, and snatched up LaRoche at the deadline, who nobody can deny has made a big impact. I also suspect he may have suggested that Prado should be given a shot at 2B when KJ was struggling. Oh and he gets bonus points for extending my man Chipper.
MVP pitching is harder to call but for me it comes down to the rookie who has pitched like a 10 year veteran and Vazquez. If you twisted my arm and made me choose I’d give it to Javy. He’s a machine.
Position MVP…not even close. It’s Yunel.
Garret has 8+ games left in the regular season to get 6 more hits. Do it GA!
September 26th, 20092:15 pm
Bobby (I asked Chipper to take over for me and he said $#@! you…) Cox,
Thanks for the rotation update. We are ready to kick axx…………we might not lose again if the gods look a little bit after us.
September 26th, 20092:16 pm
Wow. Nice play, Esco.
Oops…nor more budweiser’s, Dad.
Spoke to the folks who control the weather. Braves will get this in and of course, win. Same for Sunday…
RHR–yeah, Wren gets my vote as well. He’s done a fantastic job.
September 26th, 20092:18 pm
if we make it to the playoffs, we really all ought to get together somewhere.
Like…oh I don’t know…The Ted?
September 26th, 20092:19 pm
Yunell……..gulp…….wish I could do that on a regular basis!!!
Sorry I’ve been gone so many weeks guys. Work has been a killer drag on my free time, but don’t worry, i’m still up to pace on our Bravos. Hopefully we get in the play offs this year, but juts wanted to share my thoughts on next year. We need a new veteran bench player (Norton has got to go, even though he’s a great guy). And I agree with the guys on MLBN, Franky Wren should go out and get Bobby a big bat. Then, re-sign LaRoche.
Baseball (no explanation needed...) god's
We have gotten together…took a vote…and the Braves will never lose, again!
September 26th, 20092:20 pm
Sit Down Diaz!
September 26th, 2009
if we make it to the playoffs, we really all ought to get together somewhere.
Lady, you are a first class smart ass.
Ok, 3 quick outs Tommy…
Yunie is our MVP. Great defense at SS and top-shelf hitting with RISP.
Head problems are overrated.
Big Red’s anxious to get out there and get back at the Gnats!
September 26th, 20092:21 pm
Does anyone think Bobby will go crazy/logical and throw in Kawakami in a must-win game? Or playoff? I love the option…
VAZQUEZ GETTING IT DONE
The Braves got another strong performance from Javier Vazquez in their win over the Nationals. Vazquez has 15 wins and an earned-run average of 2.83 this season. Over the last 10 years only one Braves pitcher finished a season with that many wins and an ERA that low: Greg Maddux in 2002 (16 wins, 2.62 ERA).
September 26th, 20092:22 pm
Has there ever been a great major league hitter who was DUMB?
Prado for second-half MVP, yes. But for season, Escobar or McCann
That’s a matter of opinion. In my eyes, Martin is the Braves MVP of the decade, even though he hasn’t become a full time player until June 30,2009. Still.
September 26th, 20092:23 pm
Good thing the real baseball gods don’t have an apostrophe in their name.
And NOW Tommy stops throwing strikes!
September 26th, 20092:24 pm
Hanson, keep the ball down, please.
I feel your pain with Fox. I’m blocked from watching the Braves even with the MLB Directv package and am getting “paid programming” instead of the Braves, who are in the Wildcard race or the Marlins who are still alive.
But I am going to get to see Boston (7 game lead in the wildcard) vs. New York (6.5 game lead in division) at 4 pm.
September 26th, 20092:25 pm
Looks like a great movie….
September 26th, 20092:26 pm
Just throw it over the plate!
Thanks! So I’ll see you there then?
September 26th, 20092:27 pm
Reality is the Cardinels would rather (I’m sure) face the Rockies than the Braves in the playoffs…so what reason do they really have to win against them in this series and help the Braves?
Funny post at 2:18. Someone’s has to tell people to show up since Justice left…
September 26th, 20092:28 pm
Wainwright is fighting for a CY YOUNG award. He has reason to beat the Rockies
September 26th, 20092:29 pm
Come on Tommy.
Yeah, I’ll be the guy in the braves T shirt wearing a derby hat
Just doing preview for tomorrow:
Lowe is 8-2 in his past 14 starts, despite a 4.54 ERA and .326 opponents’ average in that span. He’s 3-2 with a 6.62 ERA and .377 opponents’ average in his past seven starts, and the Braves scored nine runs (twice) and 11 runs while he was in the game in his three wins in that stretch.
But Livan’s numbers are even worse. (Lowe is facing Livan Hernandez)
And the Cards want home field advantage…
September 26th, 20092:30 pm
About those baseball gods…
Wow, that ball was crushed. Dude’s first homer is a straightaway shot to CF.
September 26th, 20092:31 pm
Go get him Bobby!
That ball was CRUSHED!!!!
