MARLINS down to their last strike. GAME. METS WIN. FISH all but mathematically eliminated. Pull the plug on their life-support.
Top of the eighth, two on, one out, MATT HOLLIDAY (my man, up). Come on CARDS.
September 25th, 200910:23 pm
Crap double play
P. W. Hjort
And Matt Holliday hits into a double play.
DAMN Matt Holliday!!!!!!!
If Albert hurt hiself running, He will not play the rest of the weekend ! Ervey !
September 25th, 200910:24 pm
DAMM, inning ending DP. Maybe HOLLIDAY is not the way to go after all.
September 25th, 200910:25 pm
Lidge gave up another run again tonight this time in a nonsave situation
September 25th, 200910:26 pm
Obvious delay to the start of the game in SAN FRAN.
September 25th, 200910:27 pm
The game’s not on MLBN
September 25th, 200910:28 pm
I’m not as think as you drunk I am………..hic
September 25th, 200910:29 pm
Let’s go Cards!
September 25th, 200910:30 pm
Jeffrey I said they were showing it like just the situation…they cut in to games throughout the night and they showed the inning ending DP
Bad call…………………but I’LL TAKE IT!
September 25th, 200910:31 pm
The Rockies were the victim of some BAD UMPIRING in the bottom of the 8th inning. It’s nice to see some “bad umpiring” helping the Braves for once.
great call blue hahahaha!!!
September 25th, 200910:32 pm
Wow, what an unbelievable play to get Fowler.
This would be a huge swing if the Cards can pull this one out for the Bravos.
September 25th, 200910:33 pm
Mets win, marlins lose. Cardinals are tied with the rockies 1-1. Phillies are losing 8-4 to the brewers. It could be quite a profitable night.
Brandon from Warner Robins
HOCO got destroyed tonight. Glad to see the Braves win on a gem from Javy. Lets go Cards!
September 25th, 200910:34 pm
Where are you guys watching the Cards & Rox?
I’m just doing Gamecast here.
Oh Lovely….P-Lentz is Back…Missed Ya Buddy!
How Big are Those Losses Now against the padres and Rockies earlier in the season?
As Well as the AAA Pirates and AAA Nats Earlier in the season…?
I said it when we got clowned by the Pirates and Nats in April and May that those losses might be the deciding denominator in the season, as a matter of fact I was banking on it…
Omg I think I have become the “Coach” of the blog…Oh No…
O.K. Finally a start in SAN FRAN. Top of the first, CUBS 1 H no runs. GIANTS coming to bat. BTW BRAVES fans, the AA SAN FRAN. franchise is reloing to RICHMOND start in April 2010. 1.5 million refurb of the “DIAMOND.” with at least a two year lease. Maybe I can report on all that wonderful S.F. pitching I’ve been hearing so much about. Guys in the mold of that shlub LINCECUM. So I’ll be leaving your sorry azzez for the glorious GIANTS soon. Just kiddin’. Been with the BRAVES since BOSTON and EDDIE MATHEWS’ rookie year. Too late to start over in this life. Maybe next time.
September 25th, 200910:35 pm
Gamecast for me too, Mixxo
Sorry to get your hopes up jeffrey
September 25th, 200910:37 pm
Please force extras
tied up B9
These MLBN guys sure complain a lot. And I’ve only been watching them for 5 minutes.
September 25th, 200910:38 pm
Hey former BRAVE DeROSA trying to give us a boost. But 2 out in the ninth for St. LOUIS.
Watch out for Tulo, Cards!
I have this bad feeling that the Rockies will win it in the bottom of the ninth, walk off style. Hope I am wrong, but it just feels that way.
The Bird and Indian (Reggie)
September 25th, 200910:39 pm
I have a bad feeling about this. Helton and Hawpe will be up.
Thanks MLBN, that’s what everyone wants to see, the Twins and Royals.
What is with the Cardinals?
Let’s get some runs you overrated NL Central team!
September 25th, 200910:40 pm
Way to stay positive O.J. Man I hope you’re wrong.
September 25th, 200910:41 pm
Dang MLBN….who cares about the Jr. circuit?!
O.K. bottom of the ninth, still 1-1.
Come on Cards.
September 25th, 200910:42 pm
Javy has 5 no decisions and three loses where he gave up three or less runs. Five combined where he gave up 2 or less runs. He should have 20 wins this year.
How about those Blue Jays throwbacks? It looks like they’er wearing pajamas.
September 25th, 200910:43 pm
They walked the lead off hitter.
HELTON leads off with a walk. “B-a-a-a-d dreams.” HAMBURGER HILL
Rockies leadoff man on. Not good !
September 25th, 200910:44 pm
50% chance of scoring
September 25th, 200910:45 pm
Oh boy. This one is looking great folks.
Now McClellan starts throwing balls. Come on a DP
Please hit a ground ball to short.
Alright, now we need a double play.
This gamecast s*** is crazy.
I meant isn’t. Or did I? Now I can’t be wrong.
September 25th, 200910:46 pm
Live cut in on MLB.
TnBrian(Vazquez ace 2010)
Roid-Giambi up… makes you wonder how he and the rest of the cheaters still manage to make millions in this game.
I’m guessing this highlight of Giambi at bat in the 9th means we didn’t get the outcome we wanted…
That’s how I messed up earlier with the score. They were showing live and replays.
September 25th, 200910:47 pm
Oh is this live?
And the cheater comes through.
Need a DP here.
Have we got a rain/snow/wind delay in Colorado?
September 25th, 200910:48 pm
DP or K or its over.
1st and third one out, Torrealba to the plate.
Well we won’t pick up a game tonight. Running out of time.
Alright Tony… work your two World Championships out of five magic.
September 25th, 200910:49 pm
Bay Area Steve: Did you get the email?
Richbrave–the AA Giants franchise, coming to Richmond next season? What league are they playing in, Eastern?
September 25th, 200910:50 pm
I feel like we just lost.
that sucks….dont lose the faith yet we still got a chance
I hate the Rockies. They will go to the playoffs only to lose in the first round.
Was there a pot of gold under that rainbow? Good grief, Ludwick
Somebody’s ahead of me.
We shouldn’t have swept the Cardinals. They’re useless now.
Well, that stinks. 2-1 ROX win in the ninth.
One down, one on. Let’s go CARDS.
September 25th, 200910:51 pm
Chopdawg yes they are playing in the eastern league
We kept pace…just keep on winning games Braves!
And way to score 1 run in Coors, Cardinals.
damn rockies win
I like Giambi. I mean, not tonight, but he’s hilarious.
Cardinals not playing with URGENCY is a CRIME SHAME.
Damnit. When are those Cards going to start scoring? 1 run in the last 20 innings or so??? Hogwash!
September 25th, 200910:52 pm
i think the braves will be alright if they are 2 down with 3 to play cuz L.A will help us
September 25th, 200910:53 pm
DAMMED CARDS, dammed gameskeeper.
Braves were all sitting around scarfing the spread while glued to TV sets in their underwear and sliding shorts and all the stuff they were beneath uniforms. None was showered, all watching the TVs in the clubhouse, most sets tuned to the Colorado-St. Louis game, a few to Fla-San Fran….
Vazquez said it’s probably been the best he’s thrown in his career, for an entire season. Said he knows there aren’t too many complete games these days, but he takes pride in trying to go eight or nine as often as he can (26 complete games in his career, all three Braves CGs this year, two in the past two weeks, nine-inning road jobs at St Lou and tonight)….
Prado has a nasty bruise on his leg and was hurting, but said it wasn’t going to keep him out of the lineup, not with everything that’s on the line for the Braves, etc.
Game story with quotes, unedited:
By DAVID O’BRIEN
Washington — After beating good and bad teams to climb back into the wild-card race, the Braves can keep their dream alive by gorging wins during a potential end-of-season buffet against the worst team of all.
The Braves get to play the Washington Nationals seven times in their final 10 games, and began that stretch with a 4-1 win against the bumbling hosts in Friday night’s series opener at Nationals Park.
Javier Vazquez (15-9) threw a three-hitter for his second complete game in two weeks, and the Braves benefited from early Washington blunders en route to their 12th win in 14 games to keep the pressure on wild-card leader Colorado.
“Just another normal Vazquez start,” Cox said after the veteran went to 4-0 with a 0.84 ERA in his past four starts, including complete games against the good (St. Louis) and the bad/ugly (Friday). “He’s finishing extremely strong.
So are the Braves, who sliced Colorado’s lead from 8-1/2 to 3-1/2 games in a two-week span. After their own win Friday, Braves players watched the end of Colorado’s game against St. Louis on televisions throughout the visitor’s clubhouse at Nationals Park.
“[The Cardinals] need to beat those mountain boys,” Cox joked as he kept an eye on the TV mounted to the wall in the manager’s office.
Alas, the Braves left disappointed after the Rockies pulled out a 2-1 win in the bottom of the ninth, retaining their 3-1/2-game lead over Atlanta.
“Right now it’s important for us to win every game, or at least as many as we can,” said Vazquez, who hasn’t lost a road game in more than three months. “We’re playing well. Guys are swinging the bats well and playing great defense.”
The bats and the defense haven’t been as consistent as the starting rotation, led by Vazquez, who has allowed two earned runs or fewer in 20 of 31 starts. He has all three Braves complete games.
“He’s been doing it all year long,” said Martin Prado, whose ninth-inning leadoff homer cushioned the lead to 4-1.
Vazquez, who had seven strikeouts with one walk, has allowed three hits or fewer in three of his past four starts. He notched his third 15-win season.
Prado missed the game in New York Wednesday after getting hit by a line drive below his left knee during batting practice. X-rays were negative, and he was back in the lineup with a nasty bruise Friday.
“Everybody’s happy and playing good baseball, pain is the last thing to worry about,” Prado said. “Whatever happens, whether we go home [after the regular season] or not, I want to think we gave our best effort.”
The Braves scored two unearned runs in the first, one on an error by second baseman Pete Orr and another when Garret Anderson’s routine fly fell between miscommunicating outfielders.
Cox is having fun
Cox signed a one-year contract extension Wednesday and announced he’d retire from managing at the end of the 2010 season. A writer asked him Friday about his plans to be an advisor in the Braves organization after he leaves the dugout.
Cox said he would spend much of his time as an advisor in the minor leagues and easily drop in on the Class A team at Rome, 15 minutes from his farm in Adairsville, or the Class AAA team in Gwinnett (Cox has a home in Marietta).
“It’s fun,” he said of working with affiliates throughout the organization.
“This isn’t fun?” the writer asked.
“Oh, this is fun,” Cox said. “More than you can imagine. It’s the best time you ever have in your career, the September run to the playoffs and the World Series … it’s incredibly fun. It gets the hair raising on your arms.”
Vazquez has two Z’s, more K’s
Vazquez has five or more strikeouts in each of his 31 starts this season, the fourth-longest streak of that kind since 1954, according to Stats Inc.
The three longer such streak: Randy Johnson did it in all of his 35 starts for Arizona in 1999; Bob Gibson did it in all 34 starts for St. Louis in 1970; and Curt Schilling did it in 33 starts with Arizona in 2002.
September 25th, 200910:54 pm
Keep the wins coming, Rockies.
Brendan Ryan, you owe the Braves a game, mister. Your booted ball should’ve been a double play.
Oh really? Why will LA help us? They’ll have the division wrapped up by then, they’ll be playing their AAA players. BAnk on it!
September 25th, 200910:56 pm
Colorado pulls it out in the ninth. They’ve done that a few times this season, haven’t they. Wow. Braves coulda had it to 2-1/2 games.
September 25th, 200910:57 pm
Looks like L.A. and St. LOUIS are playing like they’re already division champs. On that basis, we’ve got to run the table while the ROX can lose one each to those two teams. BREWERS might be our salvation. Maybe they will come to play. I’m sure the fish will in ATLANTA. Keep winning guys.
NO MORE BOBBY
This is what scares me about the Rockies against the Cardinals.
Rockies have not lost to them yet all season.
September 25th, 200910:59 pm
RHR: Dodgers and Cardinals and Phillies are all going to be playing to win, because these games down stretch are going to decide home-field advantage, etc. Teams aren’t going to give those games away to rest players. Not as long as home-field advantage is at stake.
Cards still have something to play for tomorrow (looks over at the Cubs) .. hopefully
And darn you Tony LaRusa, I told ya to watch out for Tulo!!!!
*only good thing is that the Marlins get pushed further back.
September 25th, 200911:01 pm
Saw that last out in Colorado, it must be nice to hit what would probably be a shallow flyout in most ballparks and see it carry further in that air. They have a great homefield advantage and they use it. They know the ball carries there and when all you need is a sac fly doesn’t take much to get that runner in.
Javy pitched a great game. Offense got just enough runs with some help from the Nats to get him the win. Just keep winning boys. Put the pressure on the Rockies. I have a feeling Mr. Holliday will remember how to hit at Coors. No more big DP’s hit into by him. Put the ball in the air. It will travel.
Early game tomorrow. I’m a little disappointed FOX is choosing to show Yankees-Red Sox tomorrow here in the metro-Atlanta area over the San-Fran game. National league city, why not show a national league game. I guess they think we want to see the 100th meeting between the Yanks and the Red Sox this season. Not like these games ever get picked up by other national broadcast through the season like the one thats on TBS tonight and the one on ESPN Sunday.
probably for even 8-9 million a year. (Manolo)
where did you come up with that figure? Pretty unreal.
September 25th, 200911:02 pm
Rockies will lose the next two to the Redbirds. All good things have to come to a end sometime. And I will also say this, The Rockies will experience what the Padres did when the Rockies took the wildcard away from them in 2007. Only this time it will be the Marlins or the Braves. We shall see !
September 25th, 200911:04 pm
The last 5 Starts for the 5 starters:
JJ: 36IP, 7ER, 1.75ERA
Vazquez: 37.1IP, 8 ER, 1.94ERA
Hanson: 27IP, 6ER, 2.00ERA
Hudson: 30.1IP, 12ER, 3.56ERA
Lowe: 25.1IP, 14ER, 5.04ERA
Top 3 are pitching amazing, Hudson is giving as much as we can ask for, and Lowe needs to be replaced by KK
September 25th, 200911:05 pm
damn Prado can’t carry Johnsons j-strap. and Vaz is a choking looser. Trade them both for a decent middle reliever..
Oh ! My cousin that live in St. Louis just heard on their sports channel that said LaRussa is going with Wainwright tomorrow and is going with Smotlz on sunday. Interesting !
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
