ChurchMan……….while a late trade for some bullpen help would not allow the Braves to put the player on the post season roster……..it would add depth to help us possibly get to the post season.

This late season effort is awesome to watch. It’s what makes all the other excruciating moments during the season worth it and why I don’t let them completely tear me down like some people on here. Because these last few weeks have been awesome to watch and follow as a fan. Let’s just hope the Rox continue doing their part.

Pardon if someone already asked this, but if Chipper had had the season he had last year THIS year, wouldn’t the Braves at least be leading the wild-card race and be breathing down the Phillies’ necks? We can only dream of what might have been if they had signed one fewer pitcher and one more bat.

I dont care how “well” Francoeur has played for the Mets, Diaz has an “energy” that adds life to the Braves offense.

Back in May, when I was starting my push to get Diaz inserted in right field, a number of people on here were saying “Diaz isnt an everyday player…..there is no sense in benching Francoeur”.

I’m still baffle by Diaz’s benching in early July in Chicago right before the All-Star break. I guess that a 13 for 26 stretch wasnt good enough to keep Francoeur on the bench.

Manolo–sorry man, just not gonna do it right now. BUSY, LOL! You can do it yourself, though–here’s how! Go to baseball-reference.com. Enter the player’s name. Go to “game logs” for the year in question. Click on the beginning and end of the time period you want to study, and the player’s stats will pop up.

A .385 OBP is pretty decent. However, it isnt anything to “brag” about…….when you factor in Norton’s .200 batting average, .200 slugging pct, 2 RBIs, and 1 run scored since the All-Star Break.

A .385 OBP is really good. But, you’re correct. But again, what is your defning statistic?

Paul Lentz

Steve from OH………..I dont think that there is just one “defining statistic”. In Norton’s instance, a .385 OBP since the All-Star break would be decent if he had any speed. Scoring only 1 run since the Break shows that Norton is one dimensional (getting walks). He cant run or hit the ball.

Even Gregor Blanco can play a little defense and steal a base every now and then. If the Braves were willing to settle for a no hit, pinch hitter…..then Blanco would be the better choice to keep on the roster…..instead of Norton.

Cox cannot beat the blog here if the Braves lose (and I really hope they win), but you just know that the rabid dogs will be either “why did he bring in Soriano” or “why did he let Javy pitch the 9th”. of course if (hopefully when) the Braves win Cox’s contribution will be ignored as it does not fit the profile of a poor manager that some are trying to evoke – interestingly on the AJC website the voting is 50/50 for and against Bobby staying. so the Bobby must go crew are not in the ascendancy, they are just more vocal.

It’s laughable that keylargo actually tried to make a case that Greg Norton is doing a better job than Prado……just because he has a higher OBP than Prado since the All-Star Break.

As most know I dont like the job Bobby has done this year as a manager. That said leaving Vazquez or going with Soriano are both solid decisions. Vazquez looked fine but I thought he looked like he might be missing his spots a little. Either decision should not be second guessed.

okay, writer, I got a quick question. for the teams that face the rockies like cardinals, would they try to lose on purpose so rockies will make playoffs?
because rockies lineup are kind of scary, but they rather face that than the unbelievable braves starting pitchers. so I’m just wondering if other teams will help the rockies out so they don’t have to face the braves….

Paul Lentz

September 25th, 2009

The Bird and Indian (Reggie)………..Mitchell isnt the only one who said that both Diaz and Prado arent everyday players.

While I didnt expect either player to play as well as they have this year……..I began my push back in May for both Kelly and Francoeur to be benched. My thinking back then was that even a little offense from Prado and Diaz was better than the garbage at-bats that the Braves were getting from Kelly and Francoeur.

The popular position on the board back then was that Prado and Diaz wernt enough of an upgrade to warrant substituting them for Kelly and Francoeur.

Yet, according to keylargo, I’m wrong about everything.

Just like I was wrong about dumping Glavine and calling up Tommy Hanson. Just like I was wrong about keeping McCann in the clean-up spot (even though he was struggling in August). And I was also wrong about Garret Anderson being a “professional hitter”, even though he struggled in April.
