ChurchMan……….while a late trade for some bullpen help would not allow the Braves to put the player on the post season roster……..it would add depth to help us possibly get to the post season.
September 25th, 20099:02 pm
this could be our opening.
I like it. MattyGQ comes thru again.
abc baseball … YES!
brent a……..your 8:58pm posting beat me to the punch. I didnt see it when I was typing out my 9:01pm posting.
Meanwhile, BIG INSURANCE RUN driven in by Diaz.
September 25th, 20099:03 pm
Nice, Matty Diaz.
Ohhh that was close. Not sure about the call but I’ll take it. I like the aggressiveness on the base paths tonight….where has this been all year?
September 25th, 20099:04 pm
Marlins tied the Mutts. 3-3
cabravesfan – obviously the opportunity to make fun of me twice was irresistible…
September 25th, 20099:05 pm
You’re a little late Eddie !
This late season effort is awesome to watch. It’s what makes all the other excruciating moments during the season worth it and why I don’t let them completely tear me down like some people on here. Because these last few weeks have been awesome to watch and follow as a fan. Let’s just hope the Rox continue doing their part.
September 25th, 20099:06 pm
Pardon if someone already asked this, but if Chipper had had the season he had last year THIS year, wouldn’t the Braves at least be leading the wild-card race and be breathing down the Phillies’ necks? We can only dream of what might have been if they had signed one fewer pitcher and one more bat.
No! Jason, come back!
Who would’ve predicted double-digit stolen bases for Diaz this year? (He has 12).
Paul, No problem.
September 25th, 20099:07 pm
Smart. Let Javy bat.
I dont care how “well” Francoeur has played for the Mets, Diaz has an “energy” that adds life to the Braves offense.
Back in May, when I was starting my push to get Diaz inserted in right field, a number of people on here were saying “Diaz isnt an everyday player…..there is no sense in benching Francoeur”.
I’m still baffle by Diaz’s benching in early July in Chicago right before the All-Star break. I guess that a 13 for 26 stretch wasnt good enough to keep Francoeur on the bench.

Manolo–sorry man, just not gonna do it right now. BUSY, LOL! You can do it yourself, though–here’s how! Go to baseball-reference.com. Enter the player’s name. Go to “game logs” for the year in question. Click on the beginning and end of the time period you want to study, and the player’s stats will pop up.
A .385 OBP is pretty decent. However, it isnt anything to “brag” about…….when you factor in Norton’s .200 batting average, .200 slugging pct, 2 RBIs, and 1 run scored since the All-Star Break.
A .385 OBP is really good. But, you’re correct. But again, what is your defning statistic?
TnBrian(Vazquez ace 2010)
Funny, where were a lot of you fans when the Braves looked completely out of the playoff picture?
don’t blame me…it was the blog’s fault, I swear!
September 25th, 20099:11 pm
Nate just can’t get it going.
September 25th, 20099:12 pm
Did I mention it is awesome to watch?
TnBrian(Vazquez ace 2010) –
They were right here, on this blog, writing bad stuff about the team and predicting a meaningless september.
September 25th, 20099:13 pm
Steve from OH………..I dont think that there is just one “defining statistic”. In Norton’s instance, a .385 OBP since the All-Star break would be decent if he had any speed. Scoring only 1 run since the Break shows that Norton is one dimensional (getting walks). He cant run or hit the ball.
Even Gregor Blanco can play a little defense and steal a base every now and then. If the Braves were willing to settle for a no hit, pinch hitter…..then Blanco would be the better choice to keep on the roster…..instead of Norton.
Here we go!
September 25th, 20099:14 pm
Ball was CRUSHED!
cabravesfan – I will accept your excuse – let’s hope it doesn’t happen again – there have not been many double posts tonight…
September 25th, 20099:15 pm
TnBrian(Vazquez ace 2010)………I came on here a couple of times in the past month to state that I’ve been busy with a few matters lately.
September 25th, 20099:16 pm
There’s his fifth K
September 25th, 20099:17 pm
Nice punch out there by Vazquez.
K number 5 for Javy!!
P. W. Hjort
September 25th, 20099:18 pm
Javier Vazquez is 31-for-31 in 5+ strikeout games this season. Incredible.
September 25th, 20099:19 pm
September 25th, 20099:20 pm
Only Garret Anderson..
Low down, dirty CRIME SHAME I tell ya!
September 25th, 20099:22 pm
Carpenter gets out of 2 on, no one out in the 4th. Still 1-0 Rockies.
September 25th, 20099:23 pm
His name is Marteeeen and he’s better than Greg Norton, thanks.
The Bird and Indian (Reggie)
I have been paying more attention to the Rockies game tonight than the Braves game.
that ball barely got out.
Martin Prado….you da man!!!
Hm… GA, you may have some competition for LF, and his name is MFIKY.
September 25th, 20099:24 pm
Oh hi mixxo, I coulda swore I saw you call ballgame on page 3. Surprised you’re still here.
Pete Orr = professional ballplayer
September 25th, 20099:25 pm
Cox cannot beat the blog here if the Braves lose (and I really hope they win), but you just know that the rabid dogs will be either “why did he bring in Soriano” or “why did he let Javy pitch the 9th”. of course if (hopefully when) the Braves win Cox’s contribution will be ignored as it does not fit the profile of a poor manager that some are trying to evoke – interestingly on the AJC website the voting is 50/50 for and against Bobby staying. so the Bobby must go crew are not in the ascendancy, they are just more vocal.
Mac = professional hack
It’s laughable that keylargo actually tried to make a case that Greg Norton is doing a better job than Prado……just because he has a higher OBP than Prado since the All-Star Break.
Prado does MUCH MORE than Norton does for the Braves. It isnt even worth talking about.
September 25th, 20099:26 pm
Shut up, Mixxo.
Martin is a gamer limping around third after a bomb.
Can McCann do something but make an out?
September 25th, 20099:27 pm
OMG, is it even possible for Joe Simpson to have a bigger hardon for Prado?
September 25th, 20099:28 pm
Simpy knows talent.
I don’t know. Is Kelly Johnson still on this team?
September 25th, 20099:29 pm
OMG a complete game maybe?
Marlins up on the Mets 5-3 btw
At 95 pitches, I hope that Vazquez stays in to get the complete game. No sense in burning up Soriano unless Vazquez struggles in the 9th.
September 25th, 20099:30 pm
As most know I dont like the job Bobby has done this year as a manager. That said leaving Vazquez or going with Soriano are both solid decisions. Vazquez looked fine but I thought he looked like he might be missing his spots a little. Either decision should not be second guessed.
St. Louis, not helping.
Sorry folks…Martin Prado should get a lot of consideration for team MVP this year….play him at 2nd….3rd when Chipper is out…1st when LaRoche is out…..batting over .300 pretty much all year…plays when hurt….solid defense anywhere you put him….I am glad he made the most of his opportunity to become an everyday player.
Marlins takes the lead 5-3 ! Luvable Mutts !
September 25th, 20099:31 pm
Does Javy not remind you of Maddux?
September 25th, 20099:32 pm
If the Braves end up going into a one game playoff with another team, who do you sedn out there. It’s gotta be Javy in my opinion
Wait, Martin Prado and Matt Diaz everyday players? Mitchell told me at the start of the year that could never be everyday players because of their playing style. He still thinks Matt sucks though. What and idiot.
September 25th, 20099:33 pm
Whhat a performance by Javy….so unfortunate he lacked run support early on this year because he is having a Cy Young type year.
MVP of this game: Javier Vazquez!
Another brilliant game from Javy
NIce way to end it. Now c’mon, Mets, Cubs, and Cards!
Complete game…..rest the bullpen…great!
So much for missing spots. Good call Bobby. See there I said it.
Why did Bobby leave Javy in? Oh, wait, never mind…
1 down. Time to watch the Cards/Rockies game.
Wait, Martin Prado and Matt Diaz everyday players? Mitchell told me at the start of the year that could never be everyday players because of their playing style. He still thinks Matt sucks though. What and idiot..
Gil In Mechanicsville
September 25th, 20099:34 pm
Woo Hoo! Another win!
My hat is off to Javy, well done!
Now THAT, is “Big Game” Javy. Braves MVP in 2009.
September 25th, 20099:35 pm
Are there any current streaming sites that will have the game tomorrow?
Mixxo is still calling ballgame? I guess much hasn’t changed in my absence.
September 25th, 20099:36 pm
No…they’re on at 1 tomorrow? For real? DANGIT! Why do they always find a way to be on at the same time as Tech?
Bobby should have pulled Javy. He is not a big game pitcher.
WTG Bravos ..
September 25th, 20099:37 pm
I will be missing the Tech and Braves games tomorrow. That is gonna be tough.
Doc Holliday, more like freakin Turdowisky and Roid-Giambi.
McFann, so, which one ya gonna watch?
Well at least Cook is out of the game
Gil In Mechanicsville –
I called it on pg. 3!
September 25th, 20099:38 pm
I really don’t think there is any team to worry about except the Rockies. No one else is going to pass the Braves if they catch the Rocks.
sorry! I’m actually glad they are on in the morning…this way I can watch the entire game before I head out to the USC game
We need pirates to beat LAD …………cause we need LAD to still be fighting for home field advantage once the rockies get to LA_
September 25th, 20099:39 pm
The Bird and Indian–
Especially stinks that you have to miss the Braves…
I like Tech, but when it’s still baseball season I want to watch baseball. Football would just have to wait…if I was in charge of the house.
September 25th, 20099:40 pm
Vazquez for President!
Dear Mr. Wren,
DO NOT TRADE JAVIER VAZQUEZ IN THE OFF-SEASON!
okay, writer, I got a quick question. for the teams that face the rockies like cardinals, would they try to lose on purpose so rockies will make playoffs?
because rockies lineup are kind of scary, but they rather face that than the unbelievable braves starting pitchers. so I’m just wondering if other teams will help the rockies out so they don’t have to face the braves….
The Bird and Indian (Reggie)………..Mitchell isnt the only one who said that both Diaz and Prado arent everyday players.
While I didnt expect either player to play as well as they have this year……..I began my push back in May for both Kelly and Francoeur to be benched. My thinking back then was that even a little offense from Prado and Diaz was better than the garbage at-bats that the Braves were getting from Kelly and Francoeur.
The popular position on the board back then was that Prado and Diaz wernt enough of an upgrade to warrant substituting them for Kelly and Francoeur.
Yet, according to keylargo, I’m wrong about everything.
Just like I was wrong about dumping Glavine and calling up Tommy Hanson. Just like I was wrong about keeping McCann in the clean-up spot (even though he was struggling in August). And I was also wrong about Garret Anderson being a “professional hitter”, even though he struggled in April.
Rob from SC
Very nicely done Mr. Vazquez. Tommy Hanson, shake off the start against Philly, and take care of the Nationals.
TBS is talking up the Braves and Bobby Cox during the Yanks-Red Sox game. I’m waiting to hear them talk about the game they are showing
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
