N8 (is it 2011 yet?)
September 25th, 20098:02 pm
Vazquez keeps looking at his hand, I wonder if he’s got a blister starting? I have to admit, I haven’t seen him pitch (been listening on radio), since early in the year, he looks like he’s in complete command of all his pitches.
This MLB-TV thing is pretty cool. My favorite part so far is the “Double Pits to Chesty” commercials!!
Those are funny. How come nobody has mentioned those all year? Good stuff.

Can I say that Javy is my favorite Brave even though he hasn’t even been with us a full season? He’s a great pitcher, but he doesn’t show up the other team with fist pumps and doesn’t seem arrogant at all.
September 25th, 20098:04 pm
just flipped on the cpu . . . GREAT to see that the Braves came to play from the word “Go!”
Let’s face it, that had been a concern with this team for awhile, but had disappeared in recent weeks.
They’re playing like they know what’s at stake.
Go Braves! Go Cardinals!
Time for an Adam bomb

N8 – I don’t get those ads up here in gobville NY
September 25th, 20098:06 pm
My last piling on Greg Norton moment of the year (unless Bobby uses him again with the game on the line).
Norton has the worst ave of any MLB hitter with 50 ABs. Diory Hernandez is second worst.
Norton has the worst Slugging percentage of any mlb hitter with 50 ABs.
There are 27 MLB pitchers with a higher ave (min 50 ABs)
The best one yet – There are 28 MLB pitchers with a higher slugging percentage(min 50 ABs).
The only time this guys should pick up a bat is if the bat boy is sick and he wants to find a way to earn some of his paycheck.
DOB, didn’t somebody get injured playing Guitar Hero? Joel Zumaya maybe?
Do us all a favor. Go down in the clubhouse and smash the hell out of that thing. How “rock star” would that be? DOB walks in, grabs it out of Jaiver’s hands, and starts bashing it on the floor.
Then again, if you really cared about us Braves fans, you’d take it from Vazquez and give it to Norton.

it’s amazing how many top rated catchers the Braves have developed this decade

I have to go to my schools homecoming game…
Have to? Sounds rough. Nothing fun ever happens at homecoming…
Pirates lead 3-1. The Braves are a tease. The Champs are on. See ya!
September 25th, 20098:10 pm
Well, one is more than most.
September 25th, 20098:11 pm
Not a very impressive job from the Braves offense. Not helping Vazquez at all.
September 25th, 20098:12 pm
Hmmm… Adam Dunn and Toby Keith separated at birth?
I’ll take that from Adam Dunn all week-end.
September 25th, 20098:13 pm
“Not a very impressive job from the Braves offense. Not helping Vazquez at all.”
Where have you been all season?
uhh, check the scoreboard.
There is a chance Betancourt makes BA’s top ten prospects for the Braves. Not likely, since he is so far away, but ya never know.
September 25th, 20098:14 pm
McCann, Saltalamacchia, Flowers, and this new guy (too late to click back a page).
naturally, I’m not talking about MLB performance

He stung that ball
Just one last comment about the Appy League top 20 — I overlooked two other Braves prospect on that list, No. 17, SS Mychal Jones, and No. 20, lefty Brett Oberholtzer.
So the Braves had four in that top 20.
I’ve been home for 45 minutes, and finally caught up on the blog. Every single comment today was dead-on perfect – I congratulate all of you!
Gotta keep it a 2 run game. Braves aren’t scoring anymore tonight.

been a long while blogmeisters! can’t believe our braves are still in it and have been on such a nice streak. i kind of tuned out the pain a couple weeks ago and turned my attention to NFL and NCAA. Luckily both my football teams are doing well
i’d like to see a nice 4 spot here in the 5th frame
September 25th, 20098:22 pm
That was a pathetic AB by Chipper. Didn’t even get Prado to third.
That’s the way to move em up Chipper!
Here was last section of the scouting report for Julio Teheran(tried to post it earlier, but it didn’t work):
While Teheran’s mid-70s curveball shows good depth at times, the consistency of the pitch could stand improvement. His confidence on the mound borders on cockiness, but managers were more impressed with his poise and maturity in his second season in the league. He repeats a herky-jerky, two-part arm swing that features a long, stabbing motion in back, followed by a quick motion in front, which adds deception to his delivery.
September 25th, 20098:23 pm
Chipper, please retire after this season.
Hey DOB…they’re singing you praise over on Braves Radio for the Stats.inc stat you dug up on Brian McCann.
September 25th, 20098:25 pm
DANGIT!!! THAT WASN’T A DOUBLE!!
Guess he’s just trying to make it it 300 career K’s before the season’s out. Huh…the way he’s going, he’ll have that by the time the next homestand rolls around…
Then again, maybe I was wrong…unless Gemini failed to use the sarcasm button…
Welcome home, Cabravesfan!
September 25th, 20098:27 pm
michael they’re singing you praise over on Braves Radio for the Stats.inc stat you dug up on Brian McCann.
So of course he FREAKIN’ K’S WITH AN RISP!!!
Frenchy doing his part for Braves — he hit a three-run homer off Nolasco, Mets up 3-0 against Marlins.
September 25th, 20098:28 pm
i hope this run does not come back to haunt us, they always seem to do. Chipper had three straight outside pitches to move the runner up, and swung at none.
September 25th, 20098:29 pm
So far, so good for Vazquez. Gotta give the guy props. Doin’ his thing tonight. Thank goodness for the gift runs in the first inning, because as expected against Lannan, the sticks have been weak.
Damn is Escobar a good SS.
September 25th, 20098:30 pm
Colorado up 1-0 in the 2nd
September 25th, 20098:32 pm
Apparently, after that quote from Bobby they just showed on TV, somebody needs to inform him that the 1998 rotation (Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Neagle and Millwood) combined for 85 wins and a 2.97 ERA.
But as I stated last night when comparing the two, this staff can be every bit as good as that staff next year 1-5.
Steve from OH
keylargo………we just disagree on the value of on base percentage. I’m not saying that OBP isnt valuable. I’m saying that it isnt the overriding factor.
Then what is the overriding factor? No disagreeing with you persay, but enlighten me, great one.
OBP ain’t the overriding factor, but it is the most important of the “traditional” stats–BA/OBP/SLG/HR/RBI/SB/etc.
September 25th, 20098:35 pm
Chip Caray just misused the term “ironic” during the Yankees-Red Sox game.
I’m pretty certain there are some here who would care about that.
September 25th, 20098:37 pm
The Braves just cannot hit off of this Lannan guy.
September 25th, 20098:38 pm
cabravesfan – thank you, love… just had to do some VCR manipulation to record Dollhouse – I know, Tivo – maybe in five weeks…
the more important thing is, why are you wasting your time watching the sox and yanks, with chip caray broadcasting, no less?
September 25th, 20098:39 pm
Seing Laroche against lefties reminded me why we had Julio Franco. Anyone knows laroche stats vs lefties/ With Mcann being so bad, two might be trouble on a regular basis.
Two gift runs took the heart right out of us. Rox win tonight and it’s over. Look for a late clout from Dunn to seal the deal.
September 25th, 20098:40 pm
btw, Cardinals-Rockies on TBS Sunday @ 2:30
dang, he only K’d one Brave in his last start. He’s got 6 tonight, most since Aug 5 (also 6) which was 9 starts ago.
some baseball > no baseball
September 25th, 20098:41 pm
and what, exactly, is a VCR?? Sounds old…
Cards need to get them bats goin!!!
This is exciting time right now…still believing…
I have no idea why that posted twice…sorry!!
good enough, that makes sense
September 25th, 20098:42 pm
Fla just tied it !
6th inning has been the problem for Javi in previos starts, let’s see how it goes.
Mixxo – I do not understand your post ??
anyone else fire up the Guitar Hero in the clubhouse DOB?
September 25th, 20098:43 pm
Mixxo, you serious with those comments at 8:39? If so, all I can tell you is maybe baseball ain’t your thing since you don’t seem to understand a thing about it. You’re also fetching out anything negative you can find. Then again, you could’ve been being sarcastic.
September 25th, 20098:44 pm
Perfect shift against Dunn, otherwise that’s a double
Lovable Mutts !
Some of the bloggers need to step up to the plate and give credit where credit is due. LaRoche 0-3, 2 K’s, 5 left on base.
There’s you answer.
September 25th, 20098:45 pm
Hanley hurts the mets with a tying 3 run shot of his own.
Two hit shutout through 6. Anyone think a two hit, complete game shutout with Dunn being the last out is possible?
Calm down, people. A pitcher can be on his game like Lannan is tonight without y’all seeing all doom and gloom. It’s fuc*** baseball!
September 25th, 20098:47 pm
Steve from OH………I’ll respond to your civil 8:32pm posting.
A .385 OBP is pretty decent. However, it isnt anything to “brag” about…….when you factor in Norton’s .200 batting average, .200 slugging pct, 2 RBIs, and 1 run scored since the All-Star Break.
In this case, the OBP isnt nearly high enough to justify Norton’s other PATHETIC stats.
For some idea of how impressive that five or more strikeouts in every start thing is, consider that Vazquez is pitching very well tonight, and only has four strikeouts through six innings.
He’s finished with at least five strikeouts in every start this season before tonight.
September 25th, 20098:48 pm
STEVE FROM OH, can you give me Prado’s extra base hit numbers vs Chipper after the all star break? I have a feeling they might be similar. Thanks!!
c’mon offense…get your arses in gear

Have you heard any chatter, at all, of the Braves making a late deal for bullpen help or an extra bat off the bench?
It’s rare, I know, but I’ve also seen it enough to know it’s possible to acquire someone this late in the season.
September 25th, 20098:52 pm
The great thing about the Nats is that Lannan is probably one of their best pitchers.
This game got boring in a HUGE hurry…
September 25th, 20098:53 pm
DOB put the jinx on BMAC tonight for sure.
otherwise that’s a double
What’s a “double”?
September 25th, 20098:55 pm
Looks like Matt Holliday could come through for us here… They’re on the corners for him with 2 out.
September 25th, 20098:56 pm
“Have you heard any chatter, at all, of the Braves making a late deal for bullpen help or an extra bat off the bench”
they wouldn’t be eligible for the post season anyways so a trade now doesn’t really make any sense
Haven’t read any of the prior posts tonight, so guess I’ll step into a deep hole!
- To all the Braves apologist, relax and enjoy the chase! How long has it been?
- Notwithstanding the above, just think where we might be now if our GM had picked up a bat or a couple of bats at the trading deadline! And despite what all believe, there were some bargains out there that would not have cost us any real prospects. Oh well, the brains had already pitched in. Surprise!!
- Mark, no need to try to justify the spring training report, or lack of report. Most with any real understanding know that the latest report(s) are suspect for whatever reason.
- Thanks for the “time to go” pieces. Don’t know if they had any influence, but your timing was spot on.
- I will half way apologize for my Bark Maddley posts in the past. You seem to be half way balanced this year. Jury is out. I’ll give you a total apology later this year if appropriate.
- Years ago thought you were a UGA Grady graduate- now know that is wrong. I wrote sports for a local paper in Atlanta in the 1960’s-70’s and considered Grady, but went to GT for a more lucrative career. Thankfully, it worked out.
get in gear Cards!!!
September 25th, 20098:57 pm
Wow… JV is looking incredibly efficient.
September 25th, 20098:58 pm
Javy is cruisssssssssing
DOB jinxed his K mark too.
Javy has a pretty low pitch count, would be nice to see him finish the thing.
A trade makes sense if it helps you get into the post-season. When you consider that the Braves essentially have to win EVERY GAME down the stretch to get in, anything they can do to improve their chances to win every game, might be worth it.
that’s the point of the question.
Why do you think the Braves traded Turk Wendell for Damon Berryhill and Mike Bielecki with a week to go in the 1991 season? Just too great a deal to pass up?
This was a VERY IMPORTANT quick inning for the Braves. Through 7 innings, Vazquez has thrown 77 pitches. Unless he has a meltdown, there is NO WAY that Bobby should not let Vazquez try for a complete game. Another day off for the bullpen would be a big plus…..considering that the Braves do not have another off day the rest of the way out.
That’s all for Lannan, who threw 122 pitches in seven innings. No earned runs.
September 25th, 20098:59 pm
The nats are gonna let Lannon pitch till his arm falls off tonight.Sheesh if this guy gets hurt Riggleman will be looking for another job….again.
The 9:30 Club totally kicks ass.
Jason Bergmann? Now they put him in…Where were you when I needed you?
September 25th, 20099:00 pm
spoke to soon.
Oh man. Is there ice on the field?
It’s like playing a high school JV team… Only more embarrassing because they’re being paid lots of money.
