Vazquez keeps looking at his hand, I wonder if he’s got a blister starting? I have to admit, I haven’t seen him pitch (been listening on radio), since early in the year, he looks like he’s in complete command of all his pitches.
This MLB-TV thing is pretty cool. My favorite part so far is the “Double Pits to Chesty” commercials!!
Those are funny. How come nobody has mentioned those all year? Good stuff.

Can I say that Javy is my favorite Brave even though he hasn’t even been with us a full season? He’s a great pitcher, but he doesn’t show up the other team with fist pumps and doesn’t seem arrogant at all.

Let’s face it, that had been a concern with this team for awhile, but had disappeared in recent weeks.
They’re playing like they know what’s at stake.

My last piling on Greg Norton moment of the year (unless Bobby uses him again with the game on the line).
Norton has the worst ave of any MLB hitter with 50 ABs. Diory Hernandez is second worst.
Norton has the worst Slugging percentage of any mlb hitter with 50 ABs.
There are 27 MLB pitchers with a higher ave (min 50 ABs)
The best one yet – There are 28 MLB pitchers with a higher slugging percentage(min 50 ABs).
The only time this guys should pick up a bat is if the bat boy is sick and he wants to find a way to earn some of his paycheck.

Do us all a favor. Go down in the clubhouse and smash the hell out of that thing. How “rock star” would that be? DOB walks in, grabs it out of Jaiver’s hands, and starts bashing it on the floor.
Then again, if you really cared about us Braves fans, you’d take it from Vazquez and give it to Norton.

Just one last comment about the Appy League top 20 — I overlooked two other Braves prospect on that list, No. 17, SS Mychal Jones, and No. 20, lefty Brett Oberholtzer.
So the Braves had four in that top 20.

Apparently, after that quote from Bobby they just showed on TV, somebody needs to inform him that the 1998 rotation (Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Neagle and Millwood) combined for 85 wins and a 2.97 ERA.
But as I stated last night when comparing the two, this staff can be every bit as good as that staff next year 1-5.

keylargo………we just disagree on the value of on base percentage. I’m not saying that OBP isnt valuable. I’m saying that it isnt the overriding factor.
Then what is the overriding factor? No disagreeing with you persay, but enlighten me, great one.
OBP ain’t the overriding factor, but it is the most important of the “traditional” stats–BA/OBP/SLG/HR/RBI/SB/etc.

Steve from OH………I’ll respond to your civil 8:32pm posting.
A .385 OBP is pretty decent. However, it isnt anything to “brag” about…….when you factor in Norton’s .200 batting average, .200 slugging pct, 2 RBIs, and 1 run scored since the All-Star Break.
In this case, the OBP isnt nearly high enough to justify Norton’s other PATHETIC stats.

For some idea of how impressive that five or more strikeouts in every start thing is, consider that Vazquez is pitching very well tonight, and only has four strikeouts through six innings.
He’s finished with at least five strikeouts in every start this season before tonight.

Haven’t read any of the prior posts tonight, so guess I’ll step into a deep hole!
- To all the Braves apologist, relax and enjoy the chase! How long has it been?
- Notwithstanding the above, just think where we might be now if our GM had picked up a bat or a couple of bats at the trading deadline! And despite what all believe, there were some bargains out there that would not have cost us any real prospects. Oh well, the brains had already pitched in. Surprise!!
- Mark, no need to try to justify the spring training report, or lack of report. Most with any real understanding know that the latest report(s) are suspect for whatever reason.
- Thanks for the “time to go” pieces. Don’t know if they had any influence, but your timing was spot on.
- I will half way apologize for my Bark Maddley posts in the past. You seem to be half way balanced this year. Jury is out. I’ll give you a total apology later this year if appropriate.
- Years ago thought you were a UGA Grady graduate- now know that is wrong. I wrote sports for a local paper in Atlanta in the 1960’s-70’s and considered Grady, but went to GT for a more lucrative career. Thankfully, it worked out.

A trade makes sense if it helps you get into the post-season. When you consider that the Braves essentially have to win EVERY GAME down the stretch to get in, anything they can do to improve their chances to win every game, might be worth it.

Why do you think the Braves traded Turk Wendell for Damon Berryhill and Mike Bielecki with a week to go in the 1991 season? Just too great a deal to pass up?

This was a VERY IMPORTANT quick inning for the Braves. Through 7 innings, Vazquez has thrown 77 pitches. Unless he has a meltdown, there is NO WAY that Bobby should not let Vazquez try for a complete game. Another day off for the bullpen would be a big plus…..considering that the Braves do not have another off day the rest of the way out.
