Bay Area Steve,

I have always been a Cox fan but admittedly wavered this season. I think some of the bashing this year has been justified, but not to the level of some bloggers. I think Bobby is a realist and didn’t believe this team had the talent which may be why he waited so long on Prado. Everyone points to loyalty, but I think he decided there were no alternatives to Johnson and Francouer and it did cost a few wins. But none it mattered then because it dosen’t matter now. Fortunately every ML team is required to play 162 games. I think Bochey approaches a season similar to Cox.

Oh, before I forget:

I’d like to thank Anders for being the stand-up guy he constantly reminds us that he is. I mean, through two sweeps, to be here, like a man. I can’t tell you how often he’s said that he’s here for both the good and the bad.

Wait, he hasn’t been here in a week?

OK, scratch that. But, ’tis ok, I suspect he’ll be back.

Based on previous discussions in the other blog about the value of some of the Brave players, I think that the Braves should trade McLouth, Diaz and Church for a big bopper. Everyone knows what great seasons they are having. Their value will never be higher than it is right now. A team could get a whole outfield with one trade. IT IS WHAT IT IS.

FEAR: someone wanna explain why laroche is batting 8th? Nice one cox.

…I’ll give it a shot. Adam is not exactly fleet of foot, but he has been a great hitter and RBI guy. So, with this particular lineup, Bobby (the greatest manager ever) bats Adam 8th to knock in the faster guys who get on base in front of him…and also because Bobby figures there is a good chance that Adam will “clear” the pitcher in that particular inning. Still, a third reason is that it means whoever is batting 7th (Diaz) is going to see some good pitches because chances are the opposing pitcher doesn’t want to face a “hot hitter” like Adam.

Hey, does anybody out there subscribe to mlbtv on mlb.com? I have the radio package, but no the video.

I keep getting emails to pay only $14.95 for the rest of the season. At this point, I’ll pay 15 bucks to watch the last games of the season. My conection and system is pretty fast, so I’m not worried about that.

What I want to know is if you can view “archived games”, like you can on the radio. I might not be home during game time, so I’m not going to pay the money, if I can’t go back and watch them.

Anybody who knows, I’d appreciate some info. Thanks.

I just dont see the Braves being able to sign JJ long term when that times comes.

When we got Sheffield from the Dodgers we traded Odalis Perez who was young and playing great, turned out to be a great deal, considering Odalis never panned out and turned into a number5/mop up man.
I want JJ on the team, just saying if we could get a Bat, thats young and under team control like JJ it wouldnt be that bad to look into it. I only mentioned Fielder cause he’s been in trade talks.

No matter what happens in these last 10 games i will still be proud of the 09 Braves team.No matter what some on here will say this years team is vastly improved. We have seen the emergence of Martin Prado along with the callup of Tommy Hansen and hot hitting of Matt Diaz make a great difference in our team. The pitching staff has been great all year. The trades for Nate McLouth and Adam Laroche were good moves. The team has come a long way this year and is now starting to learn how to win together. We may not get in the playoffs this year but, with a couple more moves to tweak the team over the winter the Braves will be back at the top next year.I have watched as Bobby Cox has been bashed on here all year. The fans should feel priviledged that they have had a Hall Of Fame manager here for years. No team wins every year such as the Braves did from the early ninties through 05.Sooner or later time is going to catch up.We have been down for 4 seasons now but,the Braves are on the way back.I feel that with a trade or two and and a little good luck that Bobby and the Braves will shine in 2010.

Gotta start strong tonight. Set the tone.

Honestly, I’d almost rather be playing the Yankees right now than the Nationals. Not that I care or have bothered to follow the constant downward death spiral that has been their season but I really don’t get why the Nationals haven’t won more games. Can you imagine how many more wins we would have with Adam Dunn or that other guy in a Braves uniform? Zimmerman… that’s it.

I don’t get it. These teams have just as much to play for as the wild card teams. I have to admit, I’m a little worried. No more cap tipping. We have to come out swinging, make the plays on defense and shut ‘em down at the plate.

As I’ve said in the past, I think we need to consider taking a page out of the playbook of esteemed Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis: JUST F***ING WIN YOU DUMB SONS OF BITCHES!

Okay, I paraphrased.

……..remeber the Mets’ meltdowns of ‘07 and ‘08? Can it happen to the Rockies? Probably not….but until the math says otherwise, let this play out…..by the way….I too was wondering why it took so long for Prado to get his shot….he hit in the minors and definitely is a defensive upgrade at 2nd base over Kelly Johnson. McClouth, McCann, Prado, Escobar…Braves are young and solid defensively up the middle for some time to come.

“No, Norton is not better than Prado, but he is better at what he is paid to do – PINCH HIT.

Just one of a long list of things you are WRONG about.”-keylargo

Actually, I think its you that is wrong. Norton is not better than Prado at what he is paid to do. Prado coming in to this season was “paid” to be a utility man. He has done that and more this season. Norton is being “paid” to be a pinch hitter. In essence you are saying Norton has been a better pinch hitter than Prado a utility man. Don’t know how you can honestly believe this. Him having that OBP since the all-star break does nothing to prove that he has done what the braves have needed him to do in that role.

Since we are going by OBP we should have just started the season with Blanco over Norton since his OBP after the all-star break last year was .382 and for the year last year it was .366. There is a reason why the braves brought back Norton and it was not for the nice OBP or we could have settled for the a cheaper option like Blanco. There was something he did last year that Blanco didn’t. If you can’t figure that out and why he has not given the braves what they needed from him then I don’t know what to say.

Top 5 ways Cox could possible screw the Braves:

1. Pinch hitting Norton in a crucial situation
2. Leaving a starter in too long or too short
3. Pitching Soriano, Moylan or Gonzalez on consecutive nights with a nice lead.
4. Waiting for the 3-run homer instead of manufacturing runs

Jo Jo Reyes, I have not given up on you at all. I would love to see you get in shape this offseason and come to ST to win a bullpen job. He does quite well against LH.

How quickly you’ve betrayed “your friend” JJ…

“Why is it that Cox gets killed on here when they lose, but never gets much credit when they win??”

Because managers are like umpires. You shouldn’t notice them if they are doing their job. But if you make stupid decisions that lead to losses, you get your name in the paper.

Most likely losing Gonzo and Soriano to Free Agency, the Braves should look for internal options.
Could Moylan handle closing games? Campillo should be back from injury, JoJo could be lefty specialist? Stephen Merak ??? whats his deal? We defintly need to add a veteran reliever or 2 in offseason.

I HATE THAT SONG!!!

I know, I’m open to country music (eh) but I think the Braves NEED a good rock song that puts fear in the heart of our opponents and pumps up the crowd!, and NOT death metal… or RAP…

Does anyone even like that “Load up the bases song?”

I like it a lot more than the “Braves Play Here” featured on Peachtree TV. The “Load Up the Bases” song is at least about baseball while the BPH song is just straight up commercialization, trying to sell the Peachtree TV brand. One of the many things I find superior on Sportsouth.

By the way, I’ve seen Whisky Falls, the band that recorded “Load Up the Bases”, play live. Yes, they suck. No, they don’t usually play songs like that, they’re fairly normal and just recorded that as a promotion thing. They suck, though.

I liked “Load up the Bases” the first 20 times I heard it… It plays 3 or 4 times a night… you do the math.
