“X-rays negative on Prado’s leg. Negative being positive, of course.” DOB

Love that, when you say that. Reminds me of the old Kenny Mayne schtick on sportscenter, when he would say….. “And Barry Bonds connects for his 34th HR (not in this game….. that would be a record).

Not sure whether you are insulted by that or not. But I’m equally amused by it, and appreciate it EVERY TIME you type it. Almost expect it and wait for it.

Greatest X-ray baseball quote had to be after Dizzy Dean was hit on the noggin’ by a line drive and knocked out, and the next day the paper proclaimed” “X-rays of Dean’s Head Show Nothing.”

If the saying is true about you live and you learn and Bobby applies that to bullpen next year, we might have a chance. Throw in a big bat and I think a monkey could manage this team next season and win. Just a shame that we might win 90 games and miss the playoffs this year.

our espn station in Prattville/Montgomery has Paul Finebaum on in the afternoon, so I don’t have the luxury of listing to Gottlieb(and I REFUSE to listen to Finebaum.

The only sports show I will watch is the College Gameday Crew before and after the games. I’m not just into pro football that much, so I don’t pay attention to the sunday games.

Although I will watch ESPNU this Friday night….Our Prattville Lions will be on TV against #5 ranked Don Bosco Prep of NJ…………

Good job, E. Now, Braves, add some insurance in the 8th. Either that or go 3 up 3 down and then make the Mutts do the same in the 8th and 9th so I can go to bed at a decent time.

While I understand Bobby Cox’s desire for one more shot to go out a winner……….I am disappointed to see him returning for 2010. Bobby’s refusal to make changes early in the season cost the Braves dearly. Of all the players that he “stuck with” that should have been benched or released early in the season………Peter Moylan is the only one who has rebounded. Meanwhile, Greg Norton, Kelly Johnson, Jeff Francoeur (when he was with the Braves), Jeff Bennett, Buddy Carlyle (I dont care if he is recovering from diabetes, he’s always been a BUM), and Jordan Schafer (I’m not so down on him…however it was clear early in the season that he was over matched and needed more seasoning in Triple A).

Frank Wren is the one who needs to be thanked profusely for the Braves success this season. He made a number of shrewd moves and put together a roster that even a “bumbling” Bobby Cox couldnt keep under .500. The Braves should be 5 games ahead of the Rockies right now….and right there with the Phillies……….instead of their current predicament of missing the play-offs. Bobby Cox coddled these players, instead of pushing them to “kick it in gear”.

Then again, when you know that Bobby has your back…..no matter how much you SUCK A$$……then I can see why some players arent motivated to play with a sense of urgency. I still believe that if Jeff Bennett had not slammed his fist in the wall…….that he would still be SUCKING A$$ for the Braves. After all, Greg Norton SUCKED MORE A$$ than anyone in MLB this year.

The re-signing of Bobby Cox for 2010 has John Schuerholtz written all over it. True Braves fans will have to wait one more year for Frank Wren to put his most important stamp on the Braves…….hiring a manager who will not waste away the kind of starting pitching that Bobby Cox fumbled away this year by his stubborn, but sadly predictably ineffective moves.

Regardless, I’m optimistic that the 2010 Braves will excel. Frank Wren will remake the offense in the same manner that he rebuilt the starting pitching last winter. Hopefully he will do a good enough job that even a bumbling Bobby Cox wont be able to screw it up.

FIVE BOBBY COX REASONS WE WON’T MAKE THE PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR

1. Misuse of bullpen
2. Sticking with French Boy and Kelly Johnson way too long early in season
3. Wasting a spot on roster for Norton

(see number one)
5. Not able to prepare this team to beat the teams we should

There are a lot of good and decent folks/Braves fans on this blog. As much as it is hard to become friends with someone over an internet connection, I consider many here my friends.

The rest of you frustrate the hell out of me. You seem to be smart, but you don’t study history. You criticize Bobby Cox, but you don’t know or understand the man at all. You talk about how he “stuck” with this guy too long, and fail to understand that he has ALWAYS stuck with his players.

Like I said, you seem like smart folks (at least some of you), but you don’t pay attention to what has happened here the past 20 years.

We all get frustrated with our manager when a bad decision costs us a ball game. All managers cost their team games. They all have terrible games, and they have great games. BUT, in the times when they make a great decision, all you say is “jeez, I coulda done that!”

So hello to all my friends, and to the rest of you…..why don’t you take you lame azzed ideas of fantasy baseball and go do something constructive.

That’s where I am heading…..

If Moylan pitches in 2 more games and doesn’t blow up his ERA, he will be only the 4th reliever with atleast 85 appearances and a sub-3.00 ERA this decade. (Pedro Feliciano could also do it). The others:

Oscar Vilarreal did it in 2003 but posted a 7.00 ERA in only 18 innings the following year (and even worse the year afterwards)

Ray King did so in 2004 and followed up with an OK years in 2005 but has continued to decline badly since.

Scott Eyre did it in 2005, and had followed a similiar path to King up until this year, along with plenty of stinits on the DL

So what can we realistically expect from Moylan, who is in his first season after major surgery, in the future?

Noise Made isn’t the only metric of Fan Quality. I don’t think they are overly loud in St. Louis, and they are generally considered among the league’s best. From my years in NY I have observed that unlike Yankee fans, Metros fans tend to be excrucinatinly loquacious and cacophonous, but generally unschooled in the sport’s finer points.
