“X-rays negative on Prado’s leg. Negative being positive, of course.” DOB
Love that, when you say that. Reminds me of the old Kenny Mayne schtick on sportscenter, when he would say….. “And Barry Bonds connects for his 34th HR (not in this game….. that would be a record).
Not sure whether you are insulted by that or not. But I’m equally amused by it, and appreciate it EVERY TIME you type it. Almost expect it and wait for it.
not sure…may have a friend in town
Brand new BALLGAME…. soon.
September 23rd, 20099:48 pm
Here ya go…
I was just messin’ with ya. Sorry…
September 23rd, 20099:49 pm
Come on Easy-E. Get that last out, please.
Soph’s not a chick…..after all?
Jerry Lee Lewis
I once had to pick up my wife from school too.
Time For Easy-E to play the “Thuggish Ruggish” Role and strike the Mudda Sucker out!
September 23rd, 20099:50 pm
K, McFann. I just hate seeing our boy struggle so much. Don’t want to see these guys blow it tonight. I do want to sleep
Greatest X-ray baseball quote had to be after Dizzy Dean was hit on the noggin’ by a line drive and knocked out, and the next day the paper proclaimed” “X-rays of Dean’s Head Show Nothing.”
NO MORE BOBBY
If the saying is true about you live and you learn and Bobby applies that to bullpen next year, we might have a chance. Throw in a big bat and I think a monkey could manage this team next season and win. Just a shame that we might win 90 games and miss the playoffs this year.
You better bring it next year old man!!
I thought it was b***** fest.
September 23rd, 20099:51 pm
To all those Dumb Melts Fans who ply that stoopid cuo and Drum and say “Lets go Melts”
“Ho Sit Down!”
Blow-tran you too…!
our espn station in Prattville/Montgomery has Paul Finebaum on in the afternoon, so I don’t have the luxury of listing to Gottlieb(and I REFUSE to listen to Finebaum.
The only sports show I will watch is the College Gameday Crew before and after the games. I’m not just into pro football that much, so I don’t pay attention to the sunday games.
Although I will watch ESPNU this Friday night….Our Prattville Lions will be on TV against #5 ranked Don Bosco Prep of NJ…………
September 23rd, 20099:52 pm
Good job, E. Now, Braves, add some insurance in the 8th. Either that or go 3 up 3 down and then make the Mutts do the same in the 8th and 9th so I can go to bed at a decent time.
Hubby’s out in the garage. So much for spending time with him tonight He’ll come in when the game is over and I’ll be heading to bed. Oh well.
Nope It’s a Bit..ch Fit, Did you ever watch “White Chicks”?
That’s where I got it from…
September 23rd, 20099:53 pm
Chipper left game with a stiff back
but who in the heck is this Jessie James they keep talking about…
No, never seen White Chicks.
I love how Boog just called Ball State a “power”
September 23rd, 20099:54 pm
Props, DOB, you posted that before Boog could say it on TV
Norton to hit
Rob from SC
September 23rd, 20099:55 pm
So did Wren not say anything important
I think at the end of the Year I’m gonna designate The late Easy-E CD to O’Flaherty
Easy E and Petey Pablo have been unsung heroes in our pen this year, Not MFIKY AND Gonzo who get all the props
I believe that’s an oxymoron.
cabravesfan – that sounds like it might be fun….
Rob – about what? Bobby? I haven’t heard anything from Wren.
September 23rd, 20099:56 pm
Well, at least if he gets hit, he gets on.
Sorry you had to find out this way, Mixxo.
September 23rd, 20099:57 pm
Even Norton’s gotta pad his numbers.
While I understand Bobby Cox’s desire for one more shot to go out a winner……….I am disappointed to see him returning for 2010. Bobby’s refusal to make changes early in the season cost the Braves dearly. Of all the players that he “stuck with” that should have been benched or released early in the season………Peter Moylan is the only one who has rebounded. Meanwhile, Greg Norton, Kelly Johnson, Jeff Francoeur (when he was with the Braves), Jeff Bennett, Buddy Carlyle (I dont care if he is recovering from diabetes, he’s always been a BUM), and Jordan Schafer (I’m not so down on him…however it was clear early in the season that he was over matched and needed more seasoning in Triple A).
Frank Wren is the one who needs to be thanked profusely for the Braves success this season. He made a number of shrewd moves and put together a roster that even a “bumbling” Bobby Cox couldnt keep under .500. The Braves should be 5 games ahead of the Rockies right now….and right there with the Phillies……….instead of their current predicament of missing the play-offs. Bobby Cox coddled these players, instead of pushing them to “kick it in gear”.
Then again, when you know that Bobby has your back…..no matter how much you SUCK A$$……then I can see why some players arent motivated to play with a sense of urgency. I still believe that if Jeff Bennett had not slammed his fist in the wall…….that he would still be SUCKING A$$ for the Braves. After all, Greg Norton SUCKED MORE A$$ than anyone in MLB this year.
The re-signing of Bobby Cox for 2010 has John Schuerholtz written all over it. True Braves fans will have to wait one more year for Frank Wren to put his most important stamp on the Braves…….hiring a manager who will not waste away the kind of starting pitching that Bobby Cox fumbled away this year by his stubborn, but sadly predictably ineffective moves.
Regardless, I’m optimistic that the 2010 Braves will excel. Frank Wren will remake the offense in the same manner that he rebuilt the starting pitching last winter. Hopefully he will do a good enough job that even a bumbling Bobby Cox wont be able to screw it up.
September 23rd, 20099:58 pm
Normal Norty, there. Why, oh, why? Please tell me that Wren made it a condition of allowing Bobby to come back that Norton has to go
I think it will be…been a while since we’ve seen eachother
Jeffrey D, your 9:55 is classic. Love it.
Did Boog just say “Norton retired”. Will ESPN cover the press conference?
Pads trying to score
September 23rd, 200910:00 pm
Of course my link didn’t work, bravesgrl4life
K, McFann. I just hate seeing our boy struggle so much.
Me, too…But PLEASE don’t say “K”!!
cabravesfan – it got strangely silent here, since your last post (which I enjoyed)
September 23rd, 200910:01 pm
Come On Bro…!
I bet he gets hurt during Sex, What Gives!
There’s a jinx
Uh oh. Cue, McFann.
September 23rd, 200910:02 pm
Sorry, McFann. I hope I didn’t bring that one on.
Bets on what expletive she says? I think she’s extra mad and gonna go with “Crud!”
Chipper and Mac now know it’s over. They’ve “quit.”
that situation can be rectified…
September 23rd, 200910:03 pm
Wren – You let us down big time man.
Never saw that one coming. Who would have believed Norton would hit a weak grounder to second?
I scanned Lent’z post, but he didn’t use any of his quotes right, so no Bingo
I second “crud”. But, in all caps.
September 23rd, 200910:04 pm
cabravesfan – you need to make the request…
Yeah, the all caps was implied.
Gonzo, do NOT walk French or do that
September 23rd, 200910:05 pm
Fine, no exclamation point for him then.
.139 average and still wearing a Major League uniform in September. Want to bet he’ll be back as our premier PH next year?

Padres grand slam … almost
September 23rd, 200910:06 pm
Who besides Soriano is left in the pen?
How about we just not use Gonzalez for the rest of the season?
Is that possible?
Pretty soon it’s gonna be demoted to a question mark.
I want to see Sheffield up so that they Bump That old Mystikal…”Here I Go!”
September 23rd, 200910:07 pm
Well, you got your wish T’Hawkin. I didn’t hear any music though.
Yes, They Played It!!!
padres score 3
September 23rd, 200910:08 pm
Looks like they forgot to tell Gonzo that anyone can hit a pitch down the middle (except Norton)
FIVE BOBBY COX REASONS WE WON’T MAKE THE PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR
1. Misuse of bullpen
2. Sticking with French Boy and Kelly Johnson way too long early in season
3. Wasting a spot on roster for Norton
4. His refusal to let a major league pitcher go nine innings when they are lights out
(see number one)
5. Not able to prepare this team to beat the teams we should
September 23rd, 200910:09 pm
jeffrey, I liked the music you linked to last night. I listed to it when I got to work this morning.
Soriano is in the bullpen?
I heard it but it was very low( I know the beat, normally they Blast it!!!
That old “Here I Go” by Mystikal is my Jam!
I love it when Boog and Joe talk trash like this about other team’s fans and stadium atmosphere.
Give me a break. Turner Field is like a pet cemetary. A peaceful pet cemetary, that is. Not a scary, Stephen King pet cemetary.
No more Bobby
These 5 points have been posted many times the past few weeks. Try to be more creative please.
September 23rd, 200910:10 pm
Maybe Gonzo owed Frenchy a favor?
Paul Lentz – agreed
So glad that was foul.
September 23rd, 200910:11 pm
Thanks Soph…I loved it – it was EXACTLY what I was looking for.
Two exclamation points for you.
Can They make a stat on Wild Pitches allowed for catchers to better evaluate catcher’s defense…?
Wayne in Utah
There are a lot of good and decent folks/Braves fans on this blog. As much as it is hard to become friends with someone over an internet connection, I consider many here my friends.
The rest of you frustrate the hell out of me. You seem to be smart, but you don’t study history. You criticize Bobby Cox, but you don’t know or understand the man at all. You talk about how he “stuck” with this guy too long, and fail to understand that he has ALWAYS stuck with his players.
Like I said, you seem like smart folks (at least some of you), but you don’t pay attention to what has happened here the past 20 years.
We all get frustrated with our manager when a bad decision costs us a ball game. All managers cost their team games. They all have terrible games, and they have great games. BUT, in the times when they make a great decision, all you say is “jeez, I coulda done that!”
So hello to all my friends, and to the rest of you…..why don’t you take you lame azzed ideas of fantasy baseball and go do something constructive.
That’s where I am heading…..
September 23rd, 200910:12 pm
Well done, Gonzo, even if you should not pitch anymore this year!
Soph, here’s my commercial
prattvillenolzfan – Not trying to be creative. Just posting the facts. I could get into specific games but I did that a month ago. Maybe if you were on here besides when we just win you would know that.
September 23rd, 200910:13 pm
bravesgrl4life – do you still like that Matt Ryan commercial? Love him but I’m sick of the commercial.
September 23rd, 200910:14 pm
I knew Wayne in Utah would show up today. One because of the Bobby Cox announcement and two because he seems to find the blog when Braves are winning.
On a completely unrelated note, I’ve been meaning to draw attention to this vent from the other day, which sadly wasn’t posted by me:
Nunez? Bobby might as well have brought in Mahoney…
Did we change pitchers after Frenchy batted?
First time I’ve really seen it tonight. I’ve been facebooking while I watch the game, so my attention has been divided.
September 23rd, 200910:16 pm
Cox is the reason we are this close. The man reworked this entire franchise until we were made of winners.
Cox is a winner. We are lucky to have him
If Moylan pitches in 2 more games and doesn’t blow up his ERA, he will be only the 4th reliever with atleast 85 appearances and a sub-3.00 ERA this decade. (Pedro Feliciano could also do it). The others:
Oscar Vilarreal did it in 2003 but posted a 7.00 ERA in only 18 innings the following year (and even worse the year afterwards)
Ray King did so in 2004 and followed up with an OK years in 2005 but has continued to decline badly since.
Scott Eyre did it in 2005, and had followed a similiar path to King up until this year, along with plenty of stinits on the DL
So what can we realistically expect from Moylan, who is in his first season after major surgery, in the future?
Noise Made isn’t the only metric of Fan Quality. I don’t think they are overly loud in St. Louis, and they are generally considered among the league’s best. From my years in NY I have observed that unlike Yankee fans, Metros fans tend to be excrucinatinly loquacious and cacophonous, but generally unschooled in the sport’s finer points.

September 23rd, 200910:17 pm
I really wasn’t expecting to come back on the blog much the rest of this year with football starting back. But it’s just getting too dang interesting to stay off. That sweep in Cincy really killed us though. The Rock lose tonight and we win and it will get even more interesting. Go Braves, Tech, and Saints!
I think I’ve seen it a few times today. They play it a few times each game if I’m not mistaken. Still not as bad as those Carrabbas commercials. Those drive me crazy.
September 23rd, 200910:18 pm
Oh B&I , you lost me with the Saints.
padres 6 Rockies 0
September 23rd, 200910:19 pm
The “How bout foosball??” commercial was the one that was about to send me to the looney bin
September 23rd, 200910:20 pm
Soph, they don’t show it during the early morning news. I leave at 6:30 and have turned the TV off by 5:45 each morning. I’m at work all day and then usually don’t get the TV much. Having to keep telling my husband that the season is almost over so he’ll keep letting me watch games. Promised him I wouldn’t watch tomorrow
September 23rd, 200910:21 pm
What bugs me about that Matt Ryan commercial is, how did that dork sitting next to Ryan get those scissors on the plane
Don’t look now, but Padres are up 6-0 on Rockies
I’m tired of the McDonald’s commercial with the rookie in the locker room acting like he’s a big man.
I havent looked now
