Thanks for all the coverage DOB, the masses do not understand, nor do they appreciate the fine line a beat writer has to walk in terms of how much off-the-record things can be hinted at and what has to just be filed away. Thanks for all you do from this denizen.
Braves are playing well of late, and it’s still an uphill struggle in terms of getting to October, but even so, good to see my favorite team playing good baseball.
I have some thoughts about the announcement today, but for now, baseball is front and center. Would love to see B-Mac do some damage here with the bases juiced.

This guy either just became a Braves fan, or he’s in his teens (no offense McFann). Because in the 90’s the Braves WERE the Yankees of MLB. The ironic side, is that once the Yankees started using the Boss’s open checkbook, their post-season dominance tailed off. It’s that kind of ignorance that floors me.
Think about it people. The Braves (with Ted) were able to afford, Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, John Smoltz, Chipper Jones, Fred McGriff, Ron Gant, David Justice, Javy Lopez, Andruw Jones, Denny Neagle, and many others in the PRIME of their career, and there was at least one team that had ALL of those guys on it at one time (1996 – actually Gant was already gone, but….)
And people want to whine about Bobby and the Braves not having Stienbrenner’s money. Nope. They just had Ted’s. Too bad for them.

The blog will be confused to know that ESPN’s Jim Caple just stated that one of the biggest reasons the Braves won 14 straight division titles, but Cox was also a big part of that.
So… is ESPN still full of idiots when they make comments like that? God forbid that Joe Morgan and Jon Miller might say something nice about Bobby Cox, huh? The blog would turn into a bunch of rainman’s when he didn’t get his maple syrup.
All this time, I thought ESPN hated the Braves. The Cox news is actually at the top of their headline list….. on the main page, not just the baseball page.

Another option, would be to hit him over the head, knocking him unconscious in spring training, then make an elaborate scheme, to make him think it’s July when he wakes up. All calendars and DVR menus would need to be set forward. There would need to be many people in on it. Like the Truman Show. I think I saw that on Days of our Lives in the 80’s, and then at least 4 or 5 times on ALIAS. So you know it can work, right?

One thing I’ve noticed about espn, is that the baseball tonight crew has always been high on the Braves, especially Kruk and Steve Phillips.
It’s the sportscenter anchors and play-by-play men who are forced to talk about the big-city teams. Also, the programming executives are the ones who force-feed the yankees and red sox on us……….

One thing I’ve noticed about ESPN is that they devote airtime to Braves games, just like they do for every other team in the league.

Kruk and Phillips have always praised the Braves (so have Morgan and Miller), and even though Gammons probably bleeds Curt Schilling’s blood, he’s never had anything overly negative (that wasn’t deserved) about the Braves. ESPN will cover, and over saturate their coverage of winning teams.
Even though we are “close” and have been playing good ball for a while, they have zero reason to cover the 2nd or 3rd place team in the WC race in late September. NO REASON. I bet had we took 2 of 3 from SD and handled ourselved better against Cincy, ESPN would be ALL over the Braves right now. So, the Braves are to blame for their “lack” of coverage.
My favorite ESPN personality, is Doug Gotlieb (sp?) on ESPN radio in the afternoons. He’s about as honest as it comes. I think he’s a SD Chargers fan, and he gripes about having to talk about the Patriots and Yankees and Red Sox, etc…. He often openly admits, that with ESPN being in the upper East Coast, their is a certain bias to those teams. Yet, also disputes that they would still talk about them if they didn’t continue to win.
I hardly ever watch sportcenter anymore. Between the Braves official site, or ESPN’s online game stories (that usually come with video clips), why sit through and hour of sportscenter, when you can click to the 2 or 3 stories you want to read and be done with it.
