Bay Area Steve
I hope you feel some pride from your bingo card, and all your contributions here. I saw the card, liked it, was impressed you took the time. But, you’ve got some of the denizens actin’ like Grandma Jones with nine cards and six different, twelve dollar markers.
Anywho, tryin’ to say, well done.
And, a second thought, to whoever stole the Loaf on a Blackberry deal: F. you. Let the woman work. You ruined it.
September 25th, 200912:52 am
I totally agree with you and i am the most pessmistic braves fan alive, its just worthless to re-hash crap at this point. It is what it is. I hate bobby cox, the braves piss me off 24/7, but they are still in it so i am not gonna bitch for the next 10 days
This is the first time since the last Great Pennant Race in 1993 that West Coast games have truely factored into Braves fans lives. It brings back old memories from the early years of the run & the early 80’s Braves led by Murphy, Horner & Torre.
As Braves fans this is good stuff. Just sit back, relax & enjoy the last week & a half of the season. Don’t torment yourself over what if’s & how many games you think the manager cost us. Just be glad we have a team to cheer for in late Sept with a real chance at post season. It sure & hell beats last season when we were hoping we lost games in Sept to increase our draft spot.
Wow! what a night!
Ugh. Ball four!
September 25th, 200912:53 am
Come on Marmol.
God that guy is awful.
September 25th, 200912:54 am
Ugh…. 2 on 1 out.
Marmol needs a DP or some K’s.
September 25th, 200912:55 am
I swear if Fred Lewis gets a hit it will be the end of the world.
Maybe Lowe wasn’t the best free-agent sign, but at least the Braves didn’t like Rowand, or Zito, or Edgar, this most recent time.
One More Strike!!
September 25th, 200912:56 am
Cubs win!! wow what a great off night for the braves!!!!
I swear if Fred Lewis gets a hit it will be the end of the world
No God loves the Braves
YEEESH! BRAVES WIN!
Yogi ("Baseball is 90% mental -- the other half is physical.") Berra...
Because the guy sucks even worse than Marmol.
Thank you. Game over.
LOL I mean Cubs win!
unbelieveable … just beat the nats now
September 25th, 200912:57 am
It’s hard to process all the good things happening for the Braves the past few days. Time for a drink
I thought Mitchell was done two weeks ago.
I did my line-up in pen; what do I do? I thought once he retired from the 40-man, I wouldn’t have to pencil him in again.
N8 (is it 2011 yet?)
September 25th, 200912:58 am
That was kind of exciting. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think that the Braves games (and some west coast games), have some meaning right about now.
Been a LONG time since I’ve given a rats ass what the Cubs, Giants, Rockies, Padres (or any other team), is doing in late September. I’ve almost forgotten how to scoreboard watch.
September 25th, 20091:01 am
N8 (is it 2011 yet?) –
Fun stuff though ain’t it?
I’ve liked your posts for a long time here, felt a lot of respect towards you. Even more so tonight, as you jumped on the CRIME SHAME train. But, you think just now is time for a drink? I don’t know what to say.
Brandon from Warner Robins
September 25th, 20091:04 am
what are the pitching matchups for this weekend?
you were right. the Braves won tonight. Big time.
Gotta capitalize boys!
“Nobody goes there anymore; it’s too crowded.”
September 25th, 20091:05 am
What I would like to know is exactly what has Bobby Cox done this year that “kept” the Braves in the race? Oh, he did stick with Peter Moylan and Garret Anderson (when he got off to that awful April). That’s about it.
Other than that, I feel that the Braves are still alive DESPITE Bobby Cox, not because of him.
Talk about the “wrong stuff”, lol. Bobby gets all these accolades for being such a great manager. Yet this year, I dont see the “greatness”. What I SEE is great starting pitching keeping the Braves alive. Remember, Bobby wanted to see Tom Glavine added in early June, instead of seeing Tommy Hanson called up. Also, we all know that Bobby wanted Smoltz to be re-signed. Our starting pitching is here doing well for the Braves DESPITE Bobby Cox, not because if it. Frank Wren is the one who deserves the accolades for assembling this rotation. Also, who can forget the number of times that Bobby took out Vazquez and Hanson when they were rolling, especially when they had thrown under 100 pitches? Taking Hanson out after 8 innings against Houston a few weeks back could come back and bite us in the A$$ big time.
Just look at our line-up. Nate McLouth was Frank Wren’s move. Martin Prado basically forced Bobby to bench Kelly. Bobby wanted to trade Yunel Escobar. Matt Diaz’s hot hitting still wasnt enough to unseat Jeff Francoeur. Frank Wren came to the rescue by trading Francoeur for Ryan Church.
Meanwhile, Jeff Bennett slamming his hand into the dugout wall allowed Frank Wren the opportunity to use the injury as an “excuse” to contest paying him, resulting in his release (preventing Bobby from using Bennett any further in the 6th/7th innings of tight games).
And finally, what else needs to be said about Greg Norton? How many potential comebacks did Bobby “stall” by strutting Norton out there time after time? The Phillies and Rockies all got valuable contributions from pinch hitters to sustain winning streaks. The Braves………..had Greg “rally killer” Norton.
I just dont see what Bobby has done that has kept the Braves in the pennant race.
Vasquez vs. Lannan
Hanson vs. TBD
Lowe vs. TBD

PAUL LENTZ POST WARNING ALERT!
THIS IS NOT A DRILL, THIS IS NOT A DRILL!
“If you come to a fork in the road, take it.”
I did it, didn’t I not…
CRIME SHAME was fantastic. Just when I thought he couldn’t get any dumber, he does something like that……………and TOTALLY REDEEMS himself!!
September 25th, 20091:07 am
Thanks Steve, it took about 5 minutes to make and made me and maybe some other people laugh…well worth the time – loaf on a blackberry is ruined though. I can’t stand to do it anymore because the unfunny one would probably start back up again. I’ll miss GA next season, he’s been fun to watch..a damn bargain if you ask me, wish he was coming back.
Cant believe the cubs held on, of course none of this will matter when the braves crap the bed vs washington. i love ‘em but you know its coming..its the theme this season. Probably wont matter anyway since all this is counting on what 2 other teams do. So close. Lucy. Football. Damn I fell for it again. If these dirtbags somehow slide into the playoffs this year i’ll buy us all a $6 seat to the first game in atlanta. well, i’ll buy y’all a $6 seat. i’ll be in the hank aaron seats myself. cool
September 25th, 20091:08 am
i didnt write the word cool at the end of that post wth
September 25th, 20091:11 am
For those non-believers…REPENT YOURSELVES!!! BEEEELIEVE!!
3.5 GAMES BACK IN THE WILD CARD!!!
September 25th, 20091:12 am
For the matchups?
or the warning?
Bay Area Steve, Thanks for the complements sir. I do think I left out a crucial word in that post, another.
I’ve been working a fresh bottle of strawberry bootleg, vintage 2007, for the better part of two nights. Nice batch indeed, glad I saved it, well actually just found it so I technically lost it for a while, but it’s in good hands at the moment.
I’m usually a dark liquor man myself, except on the occasions when there is none available then I’ll take a double of whatever. What tickles your palette?
September 25th, 20091:13 am
Matchups for this weekend:
Vazquez (14-9, 2.91) v Lannan (9-12, 4.07)
Hanson (10-4, 2.85) v Mock (3-9, 5.83)
Lowe (15-9, 4.55) v Hernandez (8-12, 5.53)
i got the matchups off of the Braves’ espn.com page.
September 25th, 20091:15 am
what page is crime shame on? i’m not motivated enough to find it but i want to read it in context to make me laugh at it even more that i already am.
September 25th, 20091:16 am
If you’re going to blame the leadership for a team’s failures, you have to give them credit for its successes.
It’s not a one-way street.
Braves official theme song…
The Final Countdown? or Movin’ On Up (Jefferson TV theme)?
September 25th, 20091:17 am
500 Blog Points….
In 2007, the Rockies won 13 of their last 14 to force a 1 game play-off against the Padres. With our starting pitching and 7 games against the Nationals…….I do not feel that it is unreasonable to say that this Braves team can win 9 of the last 10. The fact that we’ve won 11 of 13 is irrelevant.
If we want to make the playoffs, then we have to win games and put some pressure on the Rockies. Our schedule vs. the Rockies schedule gives the Braves a chance.
Our bullpen is rested while the Rockies’ is tired. That could come into play.
September 25th, 20091:19 am
I’m with you a hundred percent… so much so, I had to spell it out.
You totally nailed. Bobby has lost it. Can’t wait for another year of slightly above average Braves baseball.
Atlanta Braves in 2010: keep those expectations in check.
Settling for 2 of 3 would be PATHETIC. Paul
you talk as if they would decide to just win two. That is not a realistic comment. They will be trying as hard as possible to win each one, doesn’t mean it will happen. There is another team out there after all, and in baseball anything can happen,.It isn’t a matter of settling young fellow. It’s just a matter of what happens. i doubt the Cards settled for a sweep by the Braves.
September 25th, 20091:20 am
The_Superhoo………..I have given Frank Wren MANY praises for his moves throughout the season. In fact, in early June, I asked David O’Brien if he was considering doing an article about Frank Wren’s chances to win “Executive of The Year Award”. I was drowned out by “fire Frank Wren” chants.
Just because I’ve ripped Bobby Cox does not mean that I think that all Braves management is at fault.
JJ – Both…
September 25th, 20091:21 am
Is there going to be a funeral or just a memorial service for the glue factory worth of horses that Lentz has beaten to death?
September 25th, 20091:22 am
RHR, page 19, 12:00am. I point this out for you because I feel like I owe you for pointing out the pic of hanson and medlen. Just saw that. Heeeeelarious.
September 25th, 20091:23 am
The answer was C…
I’m not going to engage in petty discussions with people who attack me. I dont mind having a sensible debate about a particular issue. But personal attacks, I just refuse to go there.
So to those of you who wish for me to “respond” to your postings, you can simply forget it if you continue to attack me. I’m not going to cry or lose sleep over it. I will simply not respond and waste my time arguing with someone that cant be reasoned with.
September 25th, 20091:24 am
JJ who was C again?
September 25th, 20091:26 am
[Giants announcers on "player of the game"]
Guy 1: I think its Randy W… He had a great 9th inning, yada yada yada…
Guy 2: I’m going with Travis I… He had an even better 9th, Giants needed that walk…”
Jon Miller: Yeah…
ARE YOU KIDDIN ME??
September 25th, 20091:27 am
Mitchell………good 1:19am posting. I’m just hoping that Frank Wren will rebuild the offense this off season in the same way that he rebuilt the starting pitching last off season. If he does….then the Braves should be good enough to make the post season next year DESPITE having Bobby Cox as a manager.
In 1995, my Dallas Cowboys were good enough to win the Super Bowl DESPITE having Barry Switzer as head coach.
September 25th, 20091:29 am
I remember when Paul Lentz was talking about The South’s opinoin of gays…
While it wasn’t relevant, props to Lentz…
I also remeber when Lentz condoned cheating on your wife…
SO, I’m back to neutral on you…
I was wrong then.
NO MORE BOBBY
September 25th, 20091:31 am
Im afraid some of these BELIEVE people will harm themselves if we dont make the wild card. Chill people!!! Its not as if you typing that a million times is going to get us in. Dang!
Thanks Mike, Chipper done good on the peanut proud shirts.
September 25th, 20091:32 am
ItsAllGood…………..talent does not always win out. There have been plenty of instances where mentally strong and prepared teams beat out more talented teams.
I believe that a team’s mental approach is very important this time of year. Pressure can either be a good thing or a bad thing. Some players thrive under pressure while others crack under it.
I am a Greg Maddux fan and appreciate all he did for the Braves. However I would much rather see Curt Shilling or John Smoltz pitch in a one game playoff for the Braves, then see Greg Maddux pitch…….despite the fact that Maddux won 130 more games in the regular season than either Shilling or Smoltz.
some of these BELIEVE people will harm themselves
You really think thats more than one person?
No More Bobby and you typing No More Bobby millions of time is going to get rid of him any faster.
September 25th, 20091:33 am
September 25th, 20091:34 am
…with the pitching match ups that we have with the Nationals this weekend……..it will be a CRIME SHAME if we dont sweep the Nationals this weekend.
Heh. It was even better than I thought it was gonna be.
September 25th, 20091:35 am
This guy’s frickin’ ridonkulous. Who, in their right mind, ever said “Fire Frank Wren.” And dude claims he was drowned out by chants… It’s a CRIME SHAME if anybody thinks Wren hasn’t been even better than we coulda hoped.
See, JJ, can’t help myself.
as Mike said, pg 19, towards the bottom. Although, while you’re there, check out a certain 11:38; I liked it, anyways. (Does pimping my own post make me a hypocrite?)
September 25th, 20091:36 am
night yall….i’m giving employees their flu shots tomorrow. i should probably be awake for it.
Oxymoron (accent on moron)

Dude – look in the mirror. No, on second thought, don’t.
Its not as if you typing that a million times is going to get us in. Dang!
You don’t know…
Baseball is funny like that.
I just read that BAS but was too lazy to compliment you. but yes that was spot on, props to you!

.talent does not always win out. Paul
of course it doesn’t, especially in baseball, but to think the team is settling in advance for two out of three is sheer foolishness, especially the way this team has bounced back to get in the race. They might get swept by the Nats this weekend, but it won’t be because they didn’t want to win or try to win. Nice talking to you young fellow even if we disagree
Have you seen the one on Mo Town?
I’ve come to apperciate the straw-man posts here. The term’s really shown me how to see when someone’s full of it.
Lentz, we’d all agree that mental toughness is important, but, do you not think they’re trying their best? Regardless of what it takes, mental, physical, spiritual, or otherwise, do you not think the Braves are trying the best they know how?
And you – Actually I thought that my blogs and the many others bloggers who wanted him gone also would influence Wren to not bring him back. But its not to be and I will deal with it another year. I still feel like he is a decent manager but his decision making is not as sharp as once was. He has cost us a lot of games this year where the Rockies should be chasing us.
That’s not me looking for an excuse for him to go but facts.
September 25th, 20091:42 am
Actually I have. I’ve seen just about all of em, JJ
Jurrjens4NLCY……….I never said that it was “ok” to cheat on your wife. I said that just because one is faithful to his wife……..does not make him qualified to be President of the United States.
I agree with Bill Maher’s opinion of marriage. I enjoy being single too much (and not being confined to having sex with one woman the rest of my life) to ever consider getting married. I enjoy my freedom and being able to do what I want without having to answer to another human being. Being with 1 female too long simply bores me.
If marriage works for you, then more power to you. I just do not wish to be a slave to the institution of marriage. That is why I tell my gay friends that they are CRAZY for wanting the right to marry. I’ve never had a gay friend tell me that someone they was dating “made them wait to have sex with them until they got to know them better”, lol. On the few occasions I’ve encountered that line of thinking, I’ve ceased to date her. I’m not interested in anything serious……and certainly not marriage. So I make sure that I’m clear with any female I’m dating that I’m not interested in the BS waiting game. If gays do get the legal right to marry, then they will have to deal with the same BS that straight people have to deal with when it comes to relationships and marriage. And we all know how “wonderful” of a institution marriage has been (over 50% of all marriages end in divorce).
September 25th, 20091:43 am
I really liked Mo Town, but I’m not paying those prices for it…
“Callin out around the world…”
September 25th, 20091:44 am
Plus if we do make the postseason under Bobby, what good does it do? I want to win it all. Not just make another appearance and then tip my cap to the other team. We have done that enough over the years.
I swear after beating the Mets 6 in a row, facing 3 Nats pitchers with records of 3 games or greater under .500 AND all 3 having 4+ earned run averages … the Braves had better sweep them and not take them for granted.
September 25th, 20091:45 am
Midnight Special my favorite JJ. Man, I wish around to see those live. Good music.
September 25th, 20091:47 am
I wish I was around to see those live. My typing is awful.
Denizens, I need reassurance:
Tell me it’s OK that I’m voluntarily watching Ronin, a movie I’ve seen, in parts, no less that 67 times.
September 25th, 20091:48 am
Bobby’s agent is missing out on a sure endorsement deal with Kleenex. He is always up his nose when camera goes to him in the dugout. That’s money!
I think its like 90% now…
At least in America…
I think you don’t need a piece of paper to share your love, though…
September 25th, 20091:49 am
Goodnight losers. I leave you with these great words from Journey…………
Don’t stop believing!!!!!
September 25th, 20091:50 am
Ok movie Bay Area Steve. Go ahead and watch it.
bay area steve where art thou.
brother i just got done. are we in this?
I’d like, at this time, to point out that Paul Lentz once posted that he would stick to baseball posts only, from that point forward.
As he’s clearly been unable to do so, I find him a liar. And, I hope the folks here won’t find much respect for a liar.
September 25th, 20091:51 am
ronin, best car chase ever.
That commericial is funny thogh…
The guy is like, “That was a great era” and the girl comes out of nowhere, “Yes it was, and you can own it on this 5,000 disc set.” and he shoot her a look like,”Who dis crazy white chick?”
LOL! My favorite!
September 25th, 20091:53 am
uga, I’m four pages deep, brother.
I’ve been feeding my addiction earlier, so as to allow me interaction with my east-coast brethren.
And, I can’t seem to ignore Lentz; I told JJ I would, but dude just grates…
won a few dollars on the gamecocks. pretty happy.
But what’s in the box, BAS????
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
