RHR,

I hope you feel some pride from your bingo card, and all your contributions here. I saw the card, liked it, was impressed you took the time. But, you’ve got some of the denizens actin’ like Grandma Jones with nine cards and six different, twelve dollar markers.

Anywho, tryin’ to say, well done.

This is the first time since the last Great Pennant Race in 1993 that West Coast games have truely factored into Braves fans lives. It brings back old memories from the early years of the run & the early 80’s Braves led by Murphy, Horner & Torre.

As Braves fans this is good stuff. Just sit back, relax & enjoy the last week & a half of the season. Don’t torment yourself over what if’s & how many games you think the manager cost us. Just be glad we have a team to cheer for in late Sept with a real chance at post season. It sure & hell beats last season when we were hoping we lost games in Sept to increase our draft spot.

What I would like to know is exactly what has Bobby Cox done this year that “kept” the Braves in the race? Oh, he did stick with Peter Moylan and Garret Anderson (when he got off to that awful April). That’s about it.

Other than that, I feel that the Braves are still alive DESPITE Bobby Cox, not because of him.

Talk about the “wrong stuff”, lol. Bobby gets all these accolades for being such a great manager. Yet this year, I dont see the “greatness”. What I SEE is great starting pitching keeping the Braves alive. Remember, Bobby wanted to see Tom Glavine added in early June, instead of seeing Tommy Hanson called up. Also, we all know that Bobby wanted Smoltz to be re-signed. Our starting pitching is here doing well for the Braves DESPITE Bobby Cox, not because if it. Frank Wren is the one who deserves the accolades for assembling this rotation. Also, who can forget the number of times that Bobby took out Vazquez and Hanson when they were rolling, especially when they had thrown under 100 pitches? Taking Hanson out after 8 innings against Houston a few weeks back could come back and bite us in the A$$ big time.

Just look at our line-up. Nate McLouth was Frank Wren’s move. Martin Prado basically forced Bobby to bench Kelly. Bobby wanted to trade Yunel Escobar. Matt Diaz’s hot hitting still wasnt enough to unseat Jeff Francoeur. Frank Wren came to the rescue by trading Francoeur for Ryan Church.

Meanwhile, Jeff Bennett slamming his hand into the dugout wall allowed Frank Wren the opportunity to use the injury as an “excuse” to contest paying him, resulting in his release (preventing Bobby from using Bennett any further in the 6th/7th innings of tight games).

And finally, what else needs to be said about Greg Norton? How many potential comebacks did Bobby “stall” by strutting Norton out there time after time? The Phillies and Rockies all got valuable contributions from pinch hitters to sustain winning streaks. The Braves………..had Greg “rally killer” Norton.

I just dont see what Bobby has done that has kept the Braves in the pennant race.

In 2007, the Rockies won 13 of their last 14 to force a 1 game play-off against the Padres. With our starting pitching and 7 games against the Nationals…….I do not feel that it is unreasonable to say that this Braves team can win 9 of the last 10. The fact that we’ve won 11 of 13 is irrelevant.

If we want to make the playoffs, then we have to win games and put some pressure on the Rockies. Our schedule vs. the Rockies schedule gives the Braves a chance.

Our bullpen is rested while the Rockies’ is tired. That could come into play.

Settling for 2 of 3 would be PATHETIC. Paul

you talk as if they would decide to just win two. That is not a realistic comment. They will be trying as hard as possible to win each one, doesn’t mean it will happen. There is another team out there after all, and in baseball anything can happen,.It isn’t a matter of settling young fellow. It’s just a matter of what happens. i doubt the Cards settled for a sweep by the Braves.

ItsAllGood…………..talent does not always win out. There have been plenty of instances where mentally strong and prepared teams beat out more talented teams.

I believe that a team’s mental approach is very important this time of year. Pressure can either be a good thing or a bad thing. Some players thrive under pressure while others crack under it.

I am a Greg Maddux fan and appreciate all he did for the Braves. However I would much rather see Curt Shilling or John Smoltz pitch in a one game playoff for the Braves, then see Greg Maddux pitch…….despite the fact that Maddux won 130 more games in the regular season than either Shilling or Smoltz.

Jurrjens4NLCY……….I never said that it was “ok” to cheat on your wife. I said that just because one is faithful to his wife……..does not make him qualified to be President of the United States.

I agree with Bill Maher’s opinion of marriage. I enjoy being single too much (and not being confined to having sex with one woman the rest of my life) to ever consider getting married. I enjoy my freedom and being able to do what I want without having to answer to another human being. Being with 1 female too long simply bores me.

If marriage works for you, then more power to you. I just do not wish to be a slave to the institution of marriage. That is why I tell my gay friends that they are CRAZY for wanting the right to marry. I’ve never had a gay friend tell me that someone they was dating “made them wait to have sex with them until they got to know them better”, lol. On the few occasions I’ve encountered that line of thinking, I’ve ceased to date her. I’m not interested in anything serious……and certainly not marriage. So I make sure that I’m clear with any female I’m dating that I’m not interested in the BS waiting game. If gays do get the legal right to marry, then they will have to deal with the same BS that straight people have to deal with when it comes to relationships and marriage. And we all know how “wonderful” of a institution marriage has been (over 50% of all marriages end in divorce).
