jeffrey d………..why the insistence of knocking the “sense of urgency” comment? Dude, I BELIEVE that this Braves team is capable of winning 9 of the last 10. We have the pitching and enough offense to DOMINATE a PATHETIC Nationals team.

However, I also recognize that this year’s Braves team hasnt always “showed up” mentally prepared to play with that killer instinct. I believe part of that comes from the mentality of being “ok” with taking 2 of 3 (meaning that mentally, the Braves have already conceded 1 game, before a series even starts) in a series. Bobby Cox has repeated made the 2 of 3 comment over and over again.

With our pitching, we should have had a couple of 10 game winning streaks this year. Right now, Bobby is playing everyone who “deserves” (meaning their play has earned them playing time) to play. We have enough offense to beat up on bad pitching. However, because Bobby stuck with his “favorites” earlier in the year…….we dug ourselves a hole, necessitating the “win every game” mentality that we have to have if we are going to have a chance to make the post season.

We pretty much have to win out in order to have a chance. Winning winnable games will put pressure on the Rockies. It is IMPERATIVE that we take advantage of the 7 remaining games against the Nationals.

So again, call it anyway you want…however it isnt just random “bad luck” that the Braves failed to show up offensively against a number of “bad starting pitchers” this year. We made a number of SCRUBS look like Cy Young Award candidates.

The Braves won’t be able to hand the Nats their 100th loss — Dodgers took care of that tonight here in D.C.

By the way, Yeah Yeah Yeahs are playing at the 9:30 Club tomorrow night. Nooo, couldn’t be Saturday when we have a day game. Had to be tomorrow night. Oh, well.

I thought that new show Community tonight on NBC was hilarious. Right after another fall-on-the-floor-funny episode The Office.

We just went 8-2 against the Mets and Phillies, plus a game against the Cards.

Now, we’ve got 7 against the Nats.

It’s not crazy to think the Braves can go 7-0 against the Nats. One of the main reason its hard to fathom, though, is that baseball winning streaks are tough to maintain, due largely to relief pitchers burning out. Sometimes, you’ve just gotta throw in the towel. The Braves cannot do that anymore.

I’ll keep believing that we’re gonna go 7-0 against the Nats until we lose the first one.

At the end of the day, Florida is the team that scares me. I hate how we choke against them.

ItsAllGood…….11:23pm posting is a perfect example of the “let’s settle” mentality that plagued the Braves (and a number of posters on this blog) throughout the year.

Sure, the Braves are on a 8-2 run. However, just because we have won 8 out of our last 10………DOES NOT mean that we should “settle” for a 6-4 finish….ESPECIALLY, with 7 games remaining against the Nationals.

It’s that kind of thinking that sickens me as a Braves fan. Case in point, right after the All-Star Break, many on here were “giddy” when the Braves took 6 of 8 against the Mets and Giants. However, I was DISAPPOINTED. We should have won all 8 games. We simply gave away 2 of those games. Look at how important those 2 games are now.

As I said previously, I believe in this Braves team. Why not take advantage of the remaining schedule and put some pressure on the Rockies? We have some VERY WINNABLE games remaining.

Paul Lentz,

I think, based on your past here, that you’re a miserable person. I think your “postings” are worthless. I think you couldn’t maintain a reasoned debate with a chimpanzee. Yet, I never thought you weren’t a fan, until now.

There can be no doubt, in the final analysis, that you abandoned our team. You’ll say that you were busy, but dude, you didn’t have a thing to do for at least three straight weeks; you were here, all day, everyday. But. as soon as the season approached hopelessness, you were gone. Yet, suddenly, as soon as the boys have a tenth of a percent of a chance, here you are, preaching to us all about urgency. Where was your urgency a week ago?

I’ve never found your posts worth my time. This is minor; most posts, including my own, aren’t worth folks’ time. But, you left; simply put, you are not a Braves Fan.

David O’Brien……….11-2 in our past 13 games has put the Braves in a position of having a glimmer of hope. This weekend will go a long ways toward determining whether we will be playing meaningful baseball the final week of the season. Just because we’ve gone 11-2 in the past 13……..DOES NOT mean that we cant go 9-1 in our last 10 games.

The Rockies are hosting the Cardinals while we are playing in Washington. If we cant beat the Nationals this weekend, then it’s pretty much over.

The Braves have been getting good starting pitching during this streak. The bullpen isnt taxed. With the off day today, we should be rested for this weekend series against the Nationals.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! We are now 3 out in the loss column. The pressure is slowly mounting. The Braves beating up on a PATHETIC Nationals team will help intensify the pressure even more. Rest assured that Tony LaRussa will be managing to win these games against the Rockies.

when you’ve watched 68 years of baseball it gives you a certain perspective that youngsters like you don’t have yet. Jurrjens….

There are some managers (Cox included) who will rest his starters after clinching.

LaRussa is the type of manager who won’t. His theory is if you rest them, they lose their edge.

So when the Cards clinch this week-end. Don’t look for him to slack off. Besides, his 2 starting pitchers are competing for the Cy Young, Pujols is gunning for the MVP. LaRussa WILL NOT ease up.

Looking at LaRussa’s track record, maybe Cox shoulda done the same thing during the wonderful run.

How many times did we clinch early, rest our starters, then fell flat on our face during the playoffs…..That’s 1 reason why LaRussa is twice the manager that Cox will never be.

3 back in the loss column with 10 to play. I think the Rockies are feeling the heat & after this weekend the boiler might just be turned up full blast on them.

They could wake up Monday morning with three teams a game or less out, possibly tied with the Giants & virtually tied with the Braves & Marlins.

The Braves can do it because they have been getting great starting pitching, timely hitting & a very favorable schedule the last 10.

People need to get over crapping on the Braves for losing to San Diego & Cincy. Those two teams have played very well the past few months & may make some noise next season. Sure I’d like to have went 3-3 at the least, but it’s obvious those two are playing much better ball than the Mets or Nats.

If we sweep a very sweepable series against the Nationals this weekend…….then we wont “absolutely have” to sweep the Marlins next week. While a sweep will be nice, we will still have a “small margin of error” (meaning that only winning 2 of 3 against the Fish wont be the end of the world).
