if Escobar is not as hurt I am just as surprised at Cox benching Escobar’s bat in a crucial game as I am in Escobar not hustling. If Escobar was not hurt and was not hustling that is inexcusable but Cox should have dealt with that later – not punishing the whole Braves team by taking his bat out of the game.

Deep thoughts by Tomahawk:
Why do I keep letting the Braves pull me back in? There I was after the Reds series in dismay, and also with a sense that what I espected of this Braves team had come to be, though a bit earlier than expected. Mentally I was in offseason mode, still checking the score from time to time, unemotional of the events good or bad, but thinking of Chipper and Roach hunting on the ranch, Vazquez chllin in Puerto Rico, and Loaf, well, loafing somewhere in the greater 48. Then it happened, the biggest winning streak in three years, a glimmer of hope, and a sense that they may never lose again. I sit on my couch as if this is opening night again, living and dying on every pitch, and watching that son of a bitch Ryan Howard punching my hopes in the face two more times like he has done so often before. Go Braves…

If Escobar was not hustling in this crucial game, you have to wonder when Escobar will wear out his welcome with Bobby and the Braves. I think Escobar has been our MVP, along with our starting pitchers, but if there was no hustle you can add Escobar to Frank Wren’s decisions this offseason. I want Escobar to stay a Brave but if he has a toxic personality (not saying that he does) do the Braves trade him while his value is high.
I can only imagine the suitors for Escobar would be numerous if he was made available in the offseason. He will not bring us our big bat but he could bring a big return freeing us to make other moves. Boston (Buchholz or Bard, and Lowrie for Escobar) in particular would be a big suitor as LA Dodgers may be (moving Furcal to 2B when Hudson leaves – would they trade an OF such as Kemp or Ethier for Escobar).

Bobby and his league of coaches are awesome. Since July 28th Howard has 14 HRs and guess what 7 are against the Braves.Since July 28th in 25 ABs Howard has hit 7 HRs against the braves. The other 7 HRs took 161 ABs against nine different teams. Yeah Bobby is the best. LOL

Not until you hear Bobby shouting at you, “easy, easy” will you slow down your run to 1st on a sure out dribbler toward second. (make Esco sit in a room and watch that sure 9th-inning, 3rd-out, game-eding liner to 1st during the Mets series…..that went under his glove, giving us the win……over and over and over and over…)
Not until he’s not in the lineup do you not worry about pitching to Hayward.

Oh goodie goodie, Esco messes up for the first time since June and brian is already coming up with more trade scenerio’s. You just can’t wait to get rid of this guy for some reason. Frank Wren if you hadn’t noticed is a seperate entity from Bobby Cox, thus the reason we don’t have Smoltz and many other places. Frank Wren and Yunel Escobar will be here for a while. Can’t say the same about Bobby and neither can he himself. Frank Wren is building us a solid team, he is not about to mess that up.

True. I have to think that if the Braves decide to trade Javy, it won’t happen until late in the off-season because of Roy Halladay.
I have to think that the reason the Indians accepted that deal was for a salary dump because I don’t doubt they could’ve gotten more for him. Or maybe it was like the Santana trade where they waited too long.

If Howard played all of his games against the Braves he would probably hit 130 in a season. I know he is a big slugger but something is wrong when one of the best staffs in baseball cannot figure how to pitch to him. Could it be the manager and coaching staff???

You can’t just walk power guys everytime they come up, no one would watch this game if you did. And typically you don’t walk guys on if there’s no one on unless it’s late and close. Regardless, the Phils have 3 runs and that shouldn’t be enough to win, it will be because our offense is in denial and think we have sluggers on our team. What a shame

Just Pat: I really enjoyed the Top Plays during the rain delay also. I especially liked the 8.5 Richter Scale slide of BMac’s on that triple – and Chipper’s reaction to it..
Bobby’s #2000th win was a big suprise too ’cause they showed me and my sign “Skipper, congrats on #2000″ that I took to the game that night. My sign and I were in the AJC the next day after the big win. Guess I’ll be a part of Braves lore down thru the ages. Cool.

Completely agree with you RHR. Whats so wrong about asking a manager to treat and expect the same kind of behavior from all his players. Lets not play favorites here. These are all big boys, if you’re going to punish one for something do it to them all. Hard to respect someone who isn’t preaching the same message to all players but just some. I don’t care who the manager is and who the player is. Got to be consistent with the message.

You people are crazy. Howard at best, and I mean like God-mode best, will get a hit 4 out of 10 at-bats against us and a homer 1-2 times every 10 at-bats. Putting him on to load the bases gives the Phils even more leverage against our pitchers; not a good move.
