Rob from SC AKA - Derek Lowe sucks
September 18th, 20098:18 pm
even my wife said Cox has favorites
Nova Scotia Steve - Is Worried about the Perverbial Elephant in the Room
“Gone, Baby, Gone,” – Chip
That needs to stop…but awesome knock for Prado!
Based on his past few games, I’d say Prado is over the “exertion headaches.”
WHEW!! NO MOYER!!! AND A PRADO HR!
September 18th, 20098:19 pm
I have no idea why Escobar came out, but if it is because he could not care enough about this game to hustle to first, than obviously Bobby is a moron for allowing such a thing to happen
as I am saying is if Cox says its him or Escobar, Wren better keep Escobar
Jim Powell said that Escobar was sitting on the bench, with a towel over his head, and was mouthing, “no, no, no!”
(not sure if that was in English or Spanish)
September 18th, 20098:20 pm
Weak looking swing
Marc from FL
How do you not bat Diaz in the 4th hole against this guy?
Rob from SC AKA - Derek Lowe sucks and Bobby Cox has it out for Escobar
September 18th, 20098:21 pm
bench McCann, he was not sprinting
Enter your comments here, Boo-yah!!!! I called it and just one AB late too. Go MARTIN.
“point about Prado and Diaz is they hussle every play, something Esco needs to learn to do. I like him and root for him, but he has to hold his end of the bargain and be a professional ot make professional money.”
Well Marc I suggest you hold that standard to all players because if you watched this game or our team you would realize probably the only guy that hustles 100 percent of the time is Diaz. Don’t mind the message just make sure you are preaching it to everyone. Could be that he’s injured though and that why he didn’t run hard, I don’t know.
J A Happ looks like he is 13 asking out a girl for the first time every time a Braves guy swings…
What the DEVIL was that???
Escobar’s hip started barking again. Nothing to do with benching.
September 18th, 20098:22 pm
Marc How do you not bat Diaz in the 4th hole against this guy?
How do you not bat Diaz fourth against any lefty?
The 8th wonder of the world…
September 18th, 20098:23 pm
Just got in…am I to assume Esco pulled another…well….”Esco” ??
Wrong. Looked to be a routine out at 1st, Yunel ran down the line at the same speed everyone not named Matt Diaz does, the throw was high, Yunel woulda been safe if he had ran harder. Next batter gets out to end the inning anyway. It was a real difference maker, I tell ya.
I hope the reason he’s out is because he’s hurting..well, I don’t want him hurt but YKWIM, but the thing is, DOB and the tv/radio guys usually have word on it by now if a guy comes out with an injury…
If Chipper wasn’t in the lineup yesterday, why didn’t Nate bat 3rd?
I know that only reason he isn’t batting third is because of Chipper’s pride…. So?
What the hell?
I do hold that standard to all players, but I can’t make Bobby sit them, lol, I would be saying the same thing if Chipper or Laroche or any of them were sat for no hustling. And if Esco can’t run then he should be on the bench anyways.
Where is the lack of effort?
I don’t recall Bobby sitting Andruw the last three years in Atlanta for not even running out balls hit to the third base corner.
Maybe if it was me at second base he would have a reason to run it out but last time I checked I never won an MVP or Gold Glove award or a single All Star selection. Utley had about a 20 foot throw.
Of course, Chipper gets to take it “EASY” but one our best hitters… and fielders… got taken out for not lunging to first base. Yeah, cause we want that to happen again.
Give me a mother f***ing break. Bobby Cox. You are an idiot.
Why not just replace him with Greg Norton while your at it?
September 18th, 20098:24 pm
I am white so I am not being racist. Has cox ever benched a white player
September 18th, 20098:25 pm
chipper didn’t go 1st to 3rd on Diaz’s hit. He is hurt, well Esco has a bad hip
I think Bobby sat Jack Wilson once, lol
September 18th, 20098:26 pm
I thought if it hit the ground its a dead ball, thus, foul….
Say McCann gets a pitch that hits the dirt and hits a walk off HR, would that count?
Real House Wives of Atlanta
Welcome to Atlanta !!
RHR – no way that was normal speed – he was barely moving, unless he has a broken leg
September 18th, 20098:27 pm
Nice play, Matty!
Kinda hope Bobby pulled Esco because he was sore afterward….otherwise, I feel as though it’s not a good decision to make a point to Esco in such a crucial game/series.
Hey, he caught that one.
September 18th, 20098:28 pm
OK, I give up offering advice on how to pitch to Howard — don’t pitch to him being the advice.
has Howard hit a HR against our entire rotation
September 18th, 20098:29 pm
there it is……..ballgame.
we’ll never learn!
You don’t say it though Marc. I haven’t heard anyone on here complaining about someone not busting it down the line lately when it happens every night on this team. I’ll say it once again, Diaz is the only one who does it all the time. Esco has injuries too, the end of the year, guy has a bad hip, Chipper is hurt, Church has a bad back. If any of these guys were in the game and didn’t bust it its because being in the lineup is more important that trying to beat out an easy groundout at this point of the season. Some of you guys don’t think about that. Its just that the guy is lazy or this and that.
Unbelievable that they forget that Ryan Howard owns their asses.
ugh, this is why the phils can win games they don’t deserve to. just hit bombs. We’ve outhit and outpitched them to this point.
man i hate howard..
I’m so glad they decided to pitch to Howard.
Who here remembers that 2 homer game Howard had against Hudson a few years ago?
He almost hit that ball onto the concourse in front of the restaurant. It was CRUSHED.
September 18th, 20098:30 pm
go get him bobby!
It’s like Peter Gammons said about the Mets pitchers in regards to Chipper Jones back in 1999 . . .
“Why pitch to him?”
I think that’s what you call losing momentum.
Good thing we still got Norton on the bench.
JJ4NLCY Say McCann gets a pitch that hits the dirt and hits a walk off HR, would that count?
Haha…no. They don’t let those kinds of things go for him, only against him. Like all those ROEs he has? Think a few of those could have been hits/RBI.
September 18th, 20098:31 pm
Please don’t bury us with Howard stats. We know he’s good and he destroys the Braves. Nuff said.
The ball looked to be a straight fastball in the middle of the plate. Why our pitchers insist on putting it on a tee for this guy. D Lowe seems to be the only guy who knows how to consistently get this guy out.
What was that? Why pitch to Ryan Howard?
I can’t believe this…I really really can’t.
Let’s keep pitching to Ryan Howard….Yeah there’s a good idea….
And you know who fault this is…reminds me of the same situation with Carlos Beltran with Houston.
Wonder who was callin the shots then…the same old fool that still here
Escobar is going to ask to be traded I have a feeling. Frank Wren needs to tell old man Cox to get off his back
September 18th, 20098:32 pm
I’m white, so this is racist:
I HATE RYAN HOWARD!!
It’s early. Howard’s got at least another bomb in him tonight.
Enter your comments here
Really just want to know, is it pride, ego or stupidity that keeps us pitching to Howard???????
But just for the record, Timmy missed his spot with that pitch to Howard. BMac wanted it down. So there.
It’s never over with that disaster of a bullpen Philly has.
Jim Powell: “I would vote to walk Howard every time he bats all week-end.”
Don Sutton: “I think more than one MANAGER would agree with you!”
I mean, whats so hard? Do they think they’re gonna be the one braves pitcher Howard doesn’t go yard on? Is the ego more important than the ballgame? What else could it be? Please ask McCann what he thinks when he sees Howard step in.
September 18th, 20098:33 pm
Is Mac to blame for ANY of this? My God, how many times do you have to me reminded to bury the damn ball at his feet, then go away, away, away until he K’s or takes the walk.
can we at least back Howard off the plate
Are you busting my balls?
New Standing Rule:
Unless the bases are loaded, walk Ryan Howard.
On second thought…
Under any and all circumstances, walk Ryan Howard.
September 18th, 20098:34 pm
If you adjust Slugging Percentage for Player Weight, I bet Chase Utley beats Howard easily.
What the hell are you talking about? Diaz runs harder down the line than anyone on this team, what are you smoking?
And I’m not going to complain on the blog everytime someone jogs down the line – my fingers would fall off in a week’s time.
My statement is that Escobar was wrong to not hussle, not that he’s the only one on the team that doesn’t hussle. Bobby picks on Esco more than anyone, that doesn’t make their lack of hussle any more acceptable, and doesn’t make Esco’s lack of hussle anymore acceptable. His injury can’t be that bad cause he floors it just fine when he wants to.
Prado and Diaz are the only two I know of that haul ass down the line every play. If you don’t agree with me you can be like 99.9% of the rest of the world and be wrong!
We can talk about slow starts, 5 game losing streaks, poor managerial decisions, Derek Lowe’s blisters, etc., but what may end up costing this team a play-off spot, is the continual decision to throw fat pitches to Ryan Howard.
It’s like Peter Gammons said about the Mets’ pitchers in regards to Chipper Jones in 1999,
“Why pitch to him?”
September 18th, 20098:35 pm
They just showed the replay. Yunie jaked it.
Esco looked hurt. Loaf justed loafed
Everyone but the people wearing a Braves uniform
Who here remembers all the homers Howard hit against everyone in that series a few weeks ago?
Now Kyle Kendrick suddenly turns into Cy Young
Nah, the Braves don’t need a masher such as Howard in the middle of the order. Nope, huh-uh, nossir.
right there….Garrett didn’t run any harder than Yunel did…
September 18th, 20098:36 pm
This game is far from over, but I still don’t understand why they still pitch to howard…
pretty amazing how the phillies can lead the league in runs and only have 3 guys in the lineup with better than a .270 average.. (the braves’ entire lineup tonight is hitting .270 or better) oh thats right they score all of their runs off homers.
TnBrian how many times do you have to me reminded to bury the damn ball at his feet, then go away, away, away until he K’s or takes the walk.
He wanted it away…but Timmy didn’t throw it to the right spot. Sheesh…
way to go Cox. Hit our hottest hitter 6th.
That was a pretty lazy play by Yunel and maybe he does beat it if he runs hard down the line but, I don’t know if that was the best time to teach him a lesson. The Braves can’t afford to lose many more games and they need Yunel in the game.
Come on Braves.
You can’t let Kendrick shut this one down.
This guy makes Manny Acosta look like The Most Interesting Man in the World in the confidence department.
Yunifan…That is as fast as he gets.
September 18th, 20098:37 pm
It certainly does appear that Yunel was replaced for not hustling to first base on that groundout. No announcement of any injury, and replay on Peachtree TV had the audio of Cox yelling “Hey” when he saw the throw was going to be a wide and Yunel wasn’t running hard.
I have a feeling that Frank Wren knows that Escobar is more important to the future of the Braves than Cox.
JJ4NLCY but I still don’t understand why they still pitch to howard…
I hate when the 8th place hitter comes to the plate… oh, nevermind, this hitter leads the team in homers. Only on a Bobby Cox team…
I love Matty D’s offense, but I dislike his defense….
September 18th, 20098:38 pm
2 best hitters are 7th and 8th
Matt, where does he have to hit it for you to score this time?
LaRoche ain’t getting squat!
Happ removed for “precautionary reasons,” whatever the h that means. We’ll let you know when hear anything
OK…now I’ve seen the Esco “play”….lol….WHAT a tool !!…..Take up for that all you want but….that Dude needs to tighten up….Kind of an important game tonight to pull that kinda stuff…
PS: I DON’T like Cox but….sheesh…that crap has GOT to stop….
September 18th, 20098:39 pm
Why in hell is LaRoche batting 8th. Can someone with some reasoning please explain this to me????
away, away away?
I thought the key to Howard was to bust him tight, so he can’t get his arms extended?
Utley’s the one to pitch away, right?
Well, at least we’ll clear the 9 spot.
September 18th, 20098:40 pm
Babe Hudson! I love it!
what’s the deal with happ? if he’s hurt he probably just removed himself from rookie of the year consideration.
Who here remembers all the homers Howard hit against everyone in that series a few weeks ago?
Good point, Everyone but the people wearing a Braves uniform.
Rob from SC,
Happ was pitching, I think thats why….
September 18th, 20098:42 pm
The Braves seriously have to have the most hits with runners in scoring position without scoring a run this year.
We can get shutout for two games and then the first time we get a hit with a runner at second it’s a bullet to the right fielder.
Or in Tim Hudson’s case, the left fielder.
brent a., WAAAY away to Howard. He does have damn near 200 K’s again this year, so he’s prone to chase some bad pitches.
September 18th, 20098:43 pm
A lot of my schoolmates are at this game. I wonder where they’re sitting…
Team speed is definitely not one of the strengths of this team.
September 18th, 20098:44 pm
Cox needs to be held more accountable… i would love for someone to grill him about that decision in the post game.. i mean seriously.. 3 wks in the season and your still trying to teach lessons…
September 18th, 20098:45 pm
3B coach getting a little something something on the side….
J4NLCY but I still don’t understand why they still pitch to howard…
Every single pitcher misses their spot every single time, don’t you get it?
