Danga …games lasting past midnight make it so I can’t be a functional person the next day.
Roman Gal Hmm…I don’t seem to have that problem.
I only have that problem if the Braves get creamed.

I only have that problem if the Braves get creamed. McFann
Good point. I’m functional, just not cheerfully so. Actually, that’s not true. I’m a pretty cheerful person most of the time.
September 19th, 20095:09 pm
Roman Gal Actually, that’s not true. I’m a pretty cheerful person most of the time.
Hmm…would that I could be more like you! I cann be crabby if I wanna be.
I’ve been trying harder to keep it under control, though. But sometimes…

September 19th, 20095:13 pm
Haven’t had a chance to talk to Escobar yet; he was in training room when clubhouse was open. But going back down in a few minutes when they re-open to see if he wants to say anything.
WEATHER: Surprisingly (considering it’s flooding around Atlanta), it’s not raining here and they’re getting field ready for an on-time start. But forecast says good chance of rain tonight, so obviously things could change in a hurry.
September 19th, 20095:14 pm
LaRoche movin on up!
September 19th, 20095:16 pm
would that I could be more like you! McFann
That is a good goal.
Too bad it’s him and not a certain other player…
RHR: I’m guessing that if you were a high-school football star and got a recruiting visit to USC (the one on the West Coast), you might be inclined to consider signing with them, too. Southern California, not a bad place to be a football star and a strapping young lad.
September 19th, 20095:17 pm
DOB – Thanks for the line up. I can’t tell you how exciting to see our best power hitter moved up to seventh against a RH). Man our line up must be a juggernaut to have a guy with 13 HR in the last 6 weeks hitting in the bottom third of the order.
September 19th, 20095:18 pm
any chance Anderson gets pulled today for loafing? im guessing no chance
September 19th, 20095:19 pm
Bobby noncommital on Lowe, said they hope he’ll be ready, but they’re “trying” to hold back Kawakami and not use him in relief, in case they need to start him in place of the blistered-fingered Lowe on Monday at NY.
September 19th, 20095:21 pm
Roman Gal That is a good goal.
But don’t think I’m gonna start falling for that RSF dude…
Thanks for the lineup, Chief. Dang, still no Reaper? And this is our last series against the Fillies…

To answer DOB’s Bloggage question, Do you think the Braves can do it?
September 19th, 20095:38 pm
Random… Clarification. Rotation pre-Hudson. Kawakami was the weakest link. I can’t imagine Cox replacing any of the other starters to give Hudson an opportunity, for whatever the reasons.
As to Kawakami’s adjusting, yes, he has progressed. But I don’t think he’s going to be the pitcher that he was billed to be. And though the jury is still out on Hudson, I’d take a chance with him over keeping Kawakami, budget considerations aside.
September 19th, 20095:43 pm
Danga (September 19th, 2009 5:01 pm): “That context keeps getting larger there”
Yeah, well – except not “larger”, just better defined.
You really can’t imagine unless you’ve “been there”.
And then, once you’re back, you quickly forget (and only slowly, piece-by-piece, remember, as evidenced above).

“As to Kawakami’s adjusting, yes, he has progressed. But I don’t think he’s going to be the pitcher that he was billed to be. BY WHOM EXACTLY??? And though the jury is still out on Hudson, I’d take a chance with him over keeping Kawakami, budget considerations aside.”

September 19th, 20096:16 pm
DOB – I posted this at about 1:00 and was hoping to get your opinion. —- With Chipper’s struggles the last half, what do you think of the idea of him hitting from only the right side. Work on his swing from the right this winter and bat only from the right next year. Has to be easier to figure out one swing instead of two. He has been one of the best switch hitters in history, but maybe with his age, it is time to simplify. We do need a good stick from the right.
September 19th, 20096:17 pm
Let’s see, Giants getting torched, D-backs somehow getting a W tonite and 3 back in loss column with a Win. How bout a rain shortened, 6 inning Javy masterpiece and we win 1-0 and save the bullpen for another night. Say what you will about this team, they have been resilient this year. This team has been Luca Brazi a handful of times and has come back. I would not be surprised to see a good effort tonite.

Well, seein’ as how you just did, I guess you may!
PhotoBucket is free…at least mine has been. I actually haven’t been able to get my account to work lately–i.e., hasn’t let me load anything onto it. Not sure what the deal is…my album ain’t full.
ImageShack is another one that you cann use for free, but I like PhotoBucket better because you cann add a name and description to each photo. You cann also put all the photos in one place and rearrange them if you need to. Don’t know how to do that with ImageShack (or even if you cann).
Would love to see those photos! (Rally McTurtle would, too.)

September 19th, 20096:38 pm

Even the Fillies announcers said “RBI single”.

September 19th, 20096:42 pm
Steve, I appreciate your thoughts in regards to Lowe.
One thing I found interesting, is that a couple of days ago, when defending his contract (including the fact that he makes $15 million each of the next 3 years), you noted that his slider had hurt him this year, but you (as a glass half-full type) felt like this was correctable (or you hoped it was, etc.)
But today, when mentioning Lowe’s lack of tradeability, you cite his deteriorating slider, and a recognition that his may not be correctable.
Something tells me, that you, in your heart of hearts, feel like Lowe is going to be overpaid in years 2-4, but you just can’t defend years 2-4 yet, becuase they haven’t happened.
Separately, while I don’t really think the Braves are going to be able to trade Lowe (if they even want to), one thing to consider is that there may be some team out there that Lowe did not desire to sign with, who may actually consider tying to acquire him in trade. I don’t know who that team is, if they even exist, but it is a possible reality.
Plus, Lowe’s contract is no longer 4/60, it’s now down to 3/45, and while that isn’t a steal, it is more practical.
Plus, if it really were a salary-dump type situation for an Atlanta, the Braves may not try and acquire that much in return.
Do I really think this will happen? No, I don’t. I’m just throwing out the possibility that there may be some other team in need of pitching, that would be willing to acquire Lowe for 3/$45 that was not in position to sign him over the winter.
September 19th, 20096:43 pm
Everytime I watch a Braves game, I think about how the blog will handle it: case in point, Esco being pulled. I get why Bobby did it & if it weren’t so crucial that we win at this point, I would’ve agreed with him, HOWEVER, he pulled someone that was too valuable to lose! He cut off the team’s nose to spite their face! I knew as soon as the commentators had been saying how much better Esco had been doing, boom, he’d go & do something stupid. He is very immature, no doubt about it. But he is also extremely talented & we need him in there! 2nd case in point, as soon as I saw Medlen come in, I said oh boy, we’re done. No offense to the kid but he’s a disaster every time it counts. We’ve used our excellent trio of Moylan, Gonzo & MFIKY to death (you can debate whether their workload is Bobby’s fault or not, I can’t decide but fact remains they are tired & he had to rest them). I think I would’ve rather seen Buddy Carlyle than Medlen! Results might’ve been the same or worse but I can’t stomach the sight of Medlen at this point! I get nervous as soon as I see him warming, up, Yikes! If we didn’t pitch to Howard, Werth would probably make us pay, but let’s try it & see, shall we?? We also need Nate to get on base, 5 times up & not even a walk! Come on, Nate-man, we need some spark at the top of the lineup. Caveman can’t hit in every position!!! And Mitchell, if you hate Diaz, something is seriously wrong with you. I have an innate prejudice against guys who say they are big-time Christians but I love the way Diaz plays the game of baseball, he’s so intense & plays his heart out all the time. Those are the kind of guys I root for. Chipper, Loaf are old & not expected to bust it down the line. Now, lets move on & beat these suckers!!!!!!!!!!

September 19th, 20096:45 pm
DOB, hey, I like Guns. See, we have something in common. Appetite for Destruction is one of my favorites of all time. Maybe I’m strange because I kinda like Tina Turner.
Random, screw you too! Now, I don’t agree that Chipper loafs all the time– he does hustle, but don’t sit there and type lies yourself. CJ has been known to do a little slacking out of the box from time to time and ask Gonzo how he rates his 3rd baseman’s occasional defense.
September 19th, 20096:46 pm
I don’t mind what Bobby did to Escobar last night because I hate it when players don’t hustle but I’ve seen Anderson,Macann,Mclougth,Jones and Laroache all do it at different times so don’t just pick on Yunel.
With the money these players make the least they can do is give one hundred percent.
September 19th, 20096:47 pm
McFann, how can you be a Braves fan and not like one of its players?

Melanie Oudin is smacking tennis balls into the crowd right now, in the rain.
Also, I always like watching the grounds crew water the field in the rain, like they are doing now.
September 19th, 20096:52 pm
soph – just let her know you were thinking about her (watching game at her brother’s house) – she should return soon
There was my upset of the week that I was banking on…Nice!
September 19th, 20096:54 pm
Hey, when the radio guy asked if that Oudin girl grew up a Braves fan she responded that she knows nothing about baseball. Grew up in Marietta,GA and she and her family never followed the Braves.
I’m full of useless info, so you gotta question– I’m here.
September 19th, 20096:55 pm
Mike in VA: Based on all the conversations I’ve had with Chipper, including times when he’s been hurt and unable to bat from one side, he’d never change from switch-hitting at this stage of his career. Too late to start hitting 97 mph fastballs left-handed against lefties, or right-handed against righties.
By the way, as I type he’s headed to the plate to catch the first pitch from Melanie, who’s wearing a No. 10 Oudin Braves jersey.
Old Ike and Tina Turner still goes hard…!
Out of Curiousity do you ever Bump some old Barry White or Kenny G…?
Rob from SC AKA - Derek Lowe sucks and Bobby Cox has it out for Escobar
September 19th, 20096:56 pm
Alright Javier Vazquez. Tonight is a huge game. This would be a great time to show that you can be a big game pitcher. Don’t let me down Vazy

I feel bad for Escobar.

The UGA game is tonight? Oh crud…hope we won’t be changing the channel too much…
Steve from OH
Wren busted his hump to get Kawakami as a part of a grander scheme, one of which Kawakami is only a part. An indispensable part, indeed, and just the first stroke of his master plan.
And I agree with you under 99% of circumstances–except that the ultimate goal in his master plan is a World Series, and if Wren feels that is within reach (which I think it could be with a few upgrades), then you and I both know anything that can happen to facilitate that will happen.
But today, when mentioning Lowe’s lack of tradeability, you cite his deteriorating slider, and a recognition that his may not be correctable.
I’d thought I’d said “may or may not” both times…like I said, I’m not a scout, so I don’t know, and I’m trying to see it from both perspectives. Even if it is correctable, obviously an interested team can’t be thrilled that the problem is there (am I saying this clearly? Poor wording on my part…)
September 19th, 20097:02 pm
Yes!!! Ron Gant is in the House…I like it when he calls the games…
Much better transition than Chip Caray
trade Lowe to the Yankees
September 19th, 20097:04 pm
Rumor is that Pedro will be looking to drill one of our hitters after what happened last night…
We can’t stand by and let this guy play us like that!
Wow! What an ending to the NEB-VT game! Holy cow…good stuff.
I missed it! I flipped to watch the ending of the USC/Wash game.
September 19th, 20097:05 pm
Oh, and on the DIPS, Random:
The way I’ve interpreted it is that the “DIPS” measures only what the pitcher can control, so obviously strikeouts, walks and homeruns are in it, but so are batted ball types–because there aren’t any outside factors that effect the batted ball type. The outcome of that batted ball type dissociates us from DIPS and now we’re measuring ERA, WHIP, BABIP, BAA, etc. It’s still DIPS because we don’t care what happened to hit after it got hit, because we know the pitcher can’t have a signifcant deal of control over that.
TnBrian (September 19th, 2009 6:45 pm): “screw you too! Now, I don’t agree that Chipper loafs all the time– he does hustle, but don’t sit there and type lies yourself. CJ has been known to do a little slacking out of the box from time to time . . .”
What lies, little p!ss-ant?
I said that Jones routinely goes 1st to 3rd or scores from 2nd on a single, and routinely scores from 1st on a double. That is a truth, not a lie.
I also said (earlier, with no specific reference to Jones) that whether or not a batter should bust it down the line depends on the game situation.
I subsequently said that Jones, Laroche, Anderson, McCann — all of them would have been busting it down the line in the same game/situation that Escobar failed to last night.
So show me the lies, little pismire.
Why are yall watching baseball, football is on you Idiots lmao
What’s he gonna do, hit Loaf with a KY ball?
September 19th, 20097:06 pm
Ron Gant is still as buff as he was when he played, maybe he needs to go down there and take a few swings off Pedro
September 19th, 20097:07 pm
Yea This team could use a brawl, maybe it will light a fire in these guys asses
It was a lil over 10 years ago since the last braves/Phillies Brawl, which included Paul Byrd (As a Philly) against Eddie Perez if I’m not mistaking…?
September 19th, 20097:09 pm
Not getting the game again on PTtv…same old crap, college football.
Random, tough internet guy… you ain’t sh**! Got to pick on people on a computer because you can’t do it to someone’s face. COWARD
September 19th, 20097:10 pm
Man! That stinks…The VT guy threw an 80-yard pass and the guy went out of bounds at the 2 1/2 yard line…then they got pushed back quite a few yards but got the touchdown on 3rd and Goal. They went for 2 extra points but missed…
Then NEB had the ball with like…18 or so seconds left and threw an interception. The VT just ran around with the ball until the time ran out. VT won 16-15…good stuff…for a football game.
September 19th, 20097:11 pm
Bobby for Christs Sake if Howard hits with Runners On Walk Him and make Werth and Ibanez beat us…
Howard will have to name his son Turner after this season, this has been unreal and I say I worst than the Barroid Bonds Showcase because we see Howard More than we used to see Bonds due to the Crappy unbalanced schedule
Nice Stab MP!!!
Brandon from Warner Robins
Martin Prado…nice play.
September 19th, 20097:12 pm
Random Jones…routinely scores from 1st on a double.
‘Sept on those two doubles that BMac hit last Saturday.

They’d get their a$$ kicked! Only guy that has the nads to mix it up on THIS team is the guy on the mound.
Everybody else = a buncha softies.

OMG I hope Mac is OK. Damn the defense is on and poppin tonight. Marteeeeeen and now Mac. That was dangerous.

By the way, for those who’ve asked about Liberty and when they might sell the team: I talked to Terry McGuirk (Braves CEO) today, who told me Liberty committed to MLB at time of purchase to keep the team at least through the current collective bargaining agreement, which runs through the 2011 season. And I got the impression talking to him that Liberty would probably keep it longer than that. Asset appreciation is what they seek, and they haven’t gotten it yet, due to economy and other factors, including not playing in postseason, etc.
And they’re not cutting payroll. Probably won’t raise it too much from one year to next, but they’re not cutting.
Here We Go!!!
