If I could trade Lowe and his 15mil a year contract for my Aunt Gertrude I would. Yes, she is a RH power hitter.

I missed it? See what happens when there’s no game? jeffrey loses his mind. Soph
Hey now…it was a slow night. I was just trying to create some blog cheer.

You can blame Cox for Atlanta’s shortcomings
by Ken Rosenthal
For all you Cox lovers……….
September 15th, 20095:36 pm
from gborobrave……no third baseman tonight, Boobie will try anything
Here is the lineup from Bowmans blog
Bottom-line fact: If BrainDead Bobby stays (2010) Braves get nada. AbMan
I love posts like this from morons like you. You have probably never played organized baseball in your life, certainly not above high school if that, yet your ego is so freaking colossal that you actually believe that you know more about the game than the 1000+ people who work and play in it and most all of whom think Cox is top notch. Pathetic self deluded little schmuck.
September 15th, 20095:37 pm
oh yeah..FIRE Boobie Cox
September 15th, 20095:38 pm
Nice article…except Rosenthal calls Brian McCann “Martin.”
September 15th, 20095:39 pm
Oh get…an ice cold Omar Infante gets the start over Kelly Johnson again. Hooray for offense
But, jeffrey how can you have a blog singathon without me?! If the game is rained out tonight – I say we do it again.
Rain, rain go away, I want to watch the Braves today.
September 15th, 20095:40 pm
Fire Boobie Cox…please?
September 15th, 20095:41 pm
Steve from OH
yet your ego is so freaking colossal that you actually believe that you know more about the game than the 1000+ people who work and play in it and most all of whom think Cox is top notch.
I believe this is Coach’s cue to tell you that you need a “friggin’ lobotomy” for defending Cox?
Hey, the boys are taking the tarp off. that’s always a good sign. No BP of course but maybe we’ll start on time. Actually I think that’s the expectation and maybe it gets a little troublesome later on. but for now, not too bad.
September 15th, 20095:42 pm
Soph – well I didn’t know you weren’t going to be around. Nobody was around. And when they were they threw in lyrics that had nothing to do with the song. Somebody thought Baseball America would be a good line in “Camp Town Racers”
agreed ppaddy – Kawakami has had a solid season.
Cox has seen his best years, just like that old sway back nag grazing in the grass is a gas can you dig it?
NO MORE BOBBY
September 15th, 20095:45 pm
I really want to get season tickets for 2010 but am waiting on word if you know who is coming back first. Man! He ruins everything!
No wait, it was Dale Murphy
Any chance at the playoffs for this year is over. Just enjoy the last 19 games, and root for the Braves to finish up as bestr they can.
Next year is the year, if Wren make some moves to get power hitting / speed to go along with the pitching.
Let’s Go Braves!!!
September 15th, 20095:46 pm
Well, I’m ready today.
Yay, for the tarp coming off! It’s pouring here.
Lineup, which I’m sure you’ve already seen, but here it goes anyway…No Chipper, he thinks it’ll be a couple more days. He tested out the strained groin running today and it bothered him, so he’s a no-go. tho he will be available to pinch hit.
Oh and Bobby said today he wouldn’t skip Hanson the next time through, so Braves vs. the Phillies will be: Hudson Friday, Vazquez Saturday and Hanson Sunday.
1. McLouth CF
2. Prado 3B
3. Diaz RF
4. McCann C
5. Escobar SS
6. Anderson LF
7. LaRoche 1B
8. Infante 2B
9. Hanson P
I really want to get season tickets for 2010 but am waiting on word if you know who is coming back first
Jeff Porter right? I can’t STAND that guy
September 15th, 20095:48 pm
It’s just a crying shame that our best pitching performance team wise(lowest runs allowed)in 8 years coincided with our weakest run production as a team in 8 years! The last time we had pitching this good we were on our way to a 100 win season and the playoffs. What kept us from being there? Some say missing a true clean-up hitter. I say BC/FW staying with Schafer, KJ, and Frenchy too long,(Infante-till he got hurt,Diaz, and Prado on the bench for too much of the season) poor pen management, and the collapse of Chipper and McCann which some blame BC for not resting them more than he did especially when their slumps endured. I would have moved them both down in the order to relieve some pressure from them till they started hitting again and moved them back. BC doesn’t seem to think outside the box IMO.
8. Infante 2B
Mama’s back in the house….
September 15th, 20095:50 pm
Kelly Johnson has played twice since September 7th (eight days ago!!)
But on the bright side, Norton hasn’t played since the 6th.
September 15th, 20095:52 pm
Apparently they all haven’t left the blog. Sigh.
September 15th, 20095:53 pm
Wow, some of the relievers on our roster haven’t been used in almost a month. I mean, I know Acosta and Logan have been terrible, but what’s the point of keeping them around if you’re not going to use them?
September 15th, 20095:55 pm
That’s a good rotation for this weekend Carroll. Phillies will likely have Happ on Friday, Martinez on Saturday, and Lee on Sunday. No Happ due to his muscle injury would mean Moyer – really swings the pitching advantage to the Braves, but they’ve had that in the last few series and lost 2 of 3 so who knows.
Ok, jeffrey that’s like three whiny posts in a row.
September 15th, 20095:58 pm
jeffrey d September 15th, 2009 5:53 pm
Jeffrey d………most excellent question. Bobby has burned up the rest of the pen but left these two sitting on the sidelines……….Makes you wonder?……
Gov Clinton Tyree
We need an $18m RH cleanup hitting LF superstar. Holliday or Bay will do.
We don’t need a minor upgrade or a decent stopgap. And we can afford it. Deal Vazquez (ugh), maybe for a premium 3B prospect, $11.5m. Nontender Kelly, $4m. Nontender Church, $2.5m. Done.
Signed and controlled: McLouth, Chip, Escobar, Prado, Infante, Ross, McCann, Hanson, Jurrjens, Lowe, Kawakami, O’Flaherty, Medlen, Moylan.
Sign Roach for 2-yr, $15m with a mutual option on the third. Work out 3-yr, $33m on Hudson, mutual option on fourth. Sign one or the other closer for $7m. Take the 2nd closer money and buy 2-3 reliable bullpen arms Bobby trusts. Have Conrad fill the second utility position. Sign Diaz. Diaz, Heyward, Schafer fill the rest of the OF slots.
I have constructed a World Series worthy club.
September 15th, 20096:04 pm
We primarily play interleague with the AL Central next year? Bo-ring. I see we hit the west coast, second series of the season too. Interesting.
September 15th, 20096:06 pm
Random, the late and close stats on Kawakami came from his splits stats on the Braves Web site. Like I said, though, a very small sample…something like 5 innings. I don’t dislike KK at all in the rotation. Just musing about keeping Hudson and Vazquez in it while not expending new money on a closer. And I think KK has a closer’s mentality.
Wow, and no weekend home games vs. the Mets? Has that ever happened?
September 15th, 20096:10 pm
I agree with Monty!! One other thing, why would anyone have a love affair with KJ, he sux. Oh, thats why Boobie Cox loves him.
September 15th, 20096:18 pm
Brian Jordan said Heyward would be called up after the playoffs. I guess he doesn’t know anything Rob
perhaps they will now that it will only cost 35-40 thousand bucks, but if they do it will definitely be a chance of mind because Wren has stated several times in print and on the air that they did not intend to do so. I fail to see any advantage to doing so, certainly not to make up for the cost, but your hopes and dreams might get fulfilled for a couple of weeks for whatever that’s worth to you, which must be a huge value since you constantly bring it up.
on the otherhand I consider Jordan and Gant both to be idiots, so there is a possibility that he doesn’t know anything. But what the heck, he might actually be right for once. Even he can’t be wrong all the time.
The real question is…are you willing to bet on it right now?
September 15th, 20096:21 pm
Governor Clinton Tyree; ixnay on your outfield. No way JS begins the season in Atlanta. Need a big bopper from somewhere.
September 15th, 20096:24 pm
Well let’s keep the heat on the FISH and see what happens. One sweep down, two to go. That’s what we’ll need to have a chance. TEN in a row against the ‘STROHS pack, CARDS, MELTS, and FILTHIES. To get ninety wins we have to go 15-4. It can be done. So if “take ‘um one at a time” was ever apropos, it’s now. GO BRAVES, and GO CHIPPER. How’s that RANDOM?
September 15th, 20096:26 pm
Logan and Acosta last pitched on August 26th. Yeesh.
But it’s not like they’re Rivera and Papelbon….Bobby’s either a fool for playing them or a fool for not playing them and overworking the others.
September 15th, 20096:28 pm
From what I read, KK was none too happy about being in the bull-pen. But he’ll be right as rain next year with either HUDSON or VASQUEZ gone. If both of them are here, you can bet your bottom….dollar KAWAKAMI will be gone.
September 15th, 20096:34 pm
“Logan and Acosta last pitched on August 26th. Yeesh.”
You may not remember this, but Acosta had to go down to the minors for a while, and he had to stay down at least 10 days before being called back up. So he likely got some time at Gwinnett during that time. Logan, I don’t know what to tell you. He’ s up for arb this time, too, I think. Maybe they are keeping his innings down so he doesn’t have much of a case for a raise.
What are you hearing or thinking (if not hearing) for Richmond next season, will they be getting a team? thanks, Bruce
Angry fan that's had enough
September 15th, 20096:40 pm
September 15th, 20096:43 pm
Oh, BTW Ms. ROGERS. Thanx for the “sizzling” headline in reference to the N.Y.er’s, as in “sizzling……MELTS.” Cute.
Loaf on a blackberry sittin' on the toilet
September 15th, 20096:44 pm
HEY, think the Braves will resign me for me and Boras’ asking price of 3 year, $9.5M per year? I think I deserve it.
September 15th, 20096:45 pm
I didn’t know Boras represented Loaf.
Don’t forget to wipe, Loaf.
September 15th, 20096:53 pm
jeffrey: Acosta was in Gwinnett. He pitched for the G-Braves on Aug. 29 and 31 and Sept. 4.
September 15th, 20096:57 pm
I got it I got it….didn’t mean to make a big fuss over Manny Acosta
Eddie Mathews calling Chipper on the psychic hotline...
September 15th, 20096:58 pm
Do you believe that Chipper has any fire (or ability left) in the belly to play for three more years? Hell, I was already done by his age now, 37. Of course I started as a 20 year old in 1952 with the Boston Braves (with 25HR’s I might add…)
I think you or someone hit the nail on the head. He does not take great care of his body…and more than likely has relied on sheer athletic ability alone for the last several years. If I had his money, I would hire a personal chef, personal trainer, personal masseuse, personal muscle / whole body stretcher…whatever it takes…to play at the level he thinks he is still capable of playing at now and for the next few years. Otherwise, call it quits, go hunt and let the Braves use that big pile of money for someone who still can produce for this franchise.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.
September 15th, 20096:59 pm
Oh boy it’s on Peachtree TV. That means we get Chip Caray annoying us and JJ yelling at us.
September 15th, 20097:00 pm
Right on cue…
September 15th, 20097:01 pm
jeffrey d – it has been a nice break from that, hasn’t it?
September 15th, 20097:02 pm
Well, well, well. So the braves fans have meaningful games in Sept. to root for. Congratulations, of course this Mets fans is still rooting against you. The only thing left to do is to show up on Thursday and root for those Mets. The Mets reason for horrible play is well documented but the braves will have a lot of explaining to do if they miss the playoffs with that above average starting rotation (ok, its damn good). I would much rather have a collapse than this current Mets situation but oh well. Nothing left to do now but play hard against playoff bound teams who haven’t quite made it. Question: Is any braves fans conceding that Chumper got his extension too soon? That guy really killed you guys down the stretch with his glove and bat, very unChhumper like. Well hope to see some of you rabid fans at the game Thursday, til we meet again in 2010. Hey KC, I haven’t forgotten ya, ill hit up your email.
September 15th, 20097:04 pm
JJ here. I’ve missed yelling at you about some stupid movie. Go Braves!
Chip Caray is as bad as Jim Powell on the radio. That guy is horrible…
September 15th, 20097:05 pm
Sure has VJ.
Carroll – If you get the chance, can you throw a pen at Chip Caray’s head for me sometime tonight?
September 15th, 20097:06 pm
JJ here. I’m putzing around on Scouts’ Alley. I’ve got nothing relevant to say. The Braves play here!
September 15th, 20097:07 pm
I’m glad to see JJ back.
Catch you later, folks.
Not only that, Chop Chop, but if you ever watch PTV when there’s not a game on, they also show JJ in a gym (of all places) giving health advice (of all things).
Yeah, I’m struggling with my weight and I’m gonna listen to JJ.
Let’s sweep the Mets and see where we stand…What if we’re 3 or 4 games behind Colarado in the loss column….hrrrmmmmmm…
Hmm…I thought I hit the submit button before I left for dinner…apparently I missed.
Thanks for the lineup, Ms. Rogers. They better start on time…
I wrote a two-paragraph summery of BMac’s season–well, it’s just about his offense. Looking over what I’ve written, I think the feeling I get is…mm, trying at times. But BMac has also shown himself to be capable of overcoming the steep hills–he was able to come back strong from the uncertainty surrounding his vision problem and make the All-Star Team. Granted, he was the backup again, but his numbers were definitely good enough to be the starter.
I feel like he should have a few more RBI than he has, and he has gone through some horrid slumps from time to time, but his overall numbers aren’t too bad for a catcher, especially considering how his season began. He leads the team in homers (18), RBI (79), and doubles (34).
His defense has been shakier than I had anticipated. However, many of the stolen bases have been off our pitchers. And his PBs are up this year (don’t we have more breaking-ball pitchers than we’ve had before?), but that could be partly due to the glasses fogging up and stuff.
So anyway, that’s my general feeling, if it makes sense. Overall I’d say pretty solid offensively, not the best defensively.
Was just listening on the radio on my way home and caught the Bobby Cox Show. Joe asked how long it took him to get over the season when it ended, whether they won or lost and Bobby said it was extremely hard either way, and that it felt empty and that it felt like there just ought to be a ballgame for a long time after the season ended. He also said that for about 2 weeks he leaves his house and goes to the ballpark at the same time as he does during the season and “just sits there” in his office.
Doesnt sound much like a man who wants to retire to me.
September 15th, 20097:08 pm
Although we do have that staged “I’ll hand you these seat upgrades and you overreact” bit coming up.
September 15th, 20097:09 pm
Loaf on a blackberry sittin’ on the toilet
Right as I type it…
Can we get JJ to give us a Manager upgrade for 2010?
September 15th, 20097:11 pm
Wright/Beltran still make this line-up dangerous.
Not to mention when Reyes and Carlos Delswato are in there…
September 15th, 20097:12 pm
The camera cuts to Matt Diaz, Martin Prado, and Peter Moylan walking through the gates, as JJ, holding Joe Girardi, passes him off to Diaz. Prado and Moylan high five and get overly excited.
September 15th, 20097:14 pm
Too bad Wright’s not still wearing that big diaper helmet.
In case anyone missed it earlier…
To All Denizens-The Hank Aaron portrait has been received by the Braves’ PR office and I’m now ready to give out prints to anyone who is interested (at no charge as usual). Email me at LewHartman@comcast.net along with your real and blog name and snail mail address and I’ll send out prints in the next week or two. The painting can be seen at LewHartman.com Hell, I’ll send a Braves print of your choice if you’re not happy with Hank.
The portrait can be seen here – it’s a beauty!
September 15th, 20097:16 pm
I’m no short Dude, but if I tried on Tommy Hanson’s baseball pants, my feet would not come within a foot of coming out the leg.
September 15th, 20097:17 pm
Very good Jeffrey! LOL
September 15th, 20097:18 pm
Tommy looks sharp…
September 15th, 20097:19 pm
It’s a good thing I didn’t decide to go to the game tonight…I’m not sure I would’ve been able to find a seat.
Slim pickens…is it gonna be like this the rest of the season?
September 15th, 20097:20 pm
Watching CSS here in Nashville and they just dumped the Braves to show us the GA Tech-Clemson replay.
just loss the game … CSS is now showing the rerun of GT-Clemson game !!@##$$$
God Bless You Ken Rosenthal
September 15th, 20097:21 pm
I’m guessing that’s pretty much would have done had he been allowed to finish the game in Houston.
I feel compelled to make two self-evident observations:
1.) the Braves have the best uniforms in baseball
2.) Bobby Cox should be fired
That’s all for now.
Why is Adam LaRoche batting 7th?
Diaz has some weird walk-up music.
September 15th, 20097:22 pm
Must be Roger Dorn at shortstop for the Mets
Was just thinking the same thing…
Did anyone elses PTV cut to a feed of a GT football game replay? I don;t know whether to hate PTV, comcast, chattanooga, or Chip Carey just for good measure.
September 15th, 20097:23 pm
Diaz comes out to “Take My Life” by Jeremy Camp.
September 15th, 20097:24 pm
Alright, we need a hit here.
September 15th, 20097:25 pm
I agree with #1. I love the Braves uniforms. I also like the Cardinals, Dodgers, Red Sox and Yankees unis.
Wonder if there are as many people on the blog tonight as at the game….There ain’t many here folks.
Eddie Mathews, DOB is off tonight, but I’m sure he’ll be happy to answer your question if he jumps on today or tomorrow. He’s back on the clock Thursday…
Why do I have a feeling we’re going to lose to another wanna-be, nobody pitcher.
September 15th, 20097:26 pm
September 15th, 20097:27 pm
September 15th, 2009
More than likely it is his Brothers song.Matt financed his CD …Christian rock i believe.
September 15th, 20097:28 pm
Ohh guess not….ty Jeffrey D
One other thing, why would anyone have a love affair with KJ, he sux. Oh, thats why Boobie Cox loves him.
Really? Cox keeps running his boy Prado out there despite all evidence of pure, non-stop suck since the All Star break.
September 15th, 20097:29 pm
What’s BMac got on his wrist?
September 15th, 20097:30 pm
watching Francoeur step into the batter’s box reminded me to tell you guys that he rode into the park today with McCann….Seems he’s down to one car at home and he could use a ride. They’ll be riding home tonight together too.
September 15th, 20097:31 pm
this is the second time this rerun of the GT game has been on … on this afternoon!!! What gives???
September 15th, 20097:35 pm
Maybe CSS got complaints about having to show the Braves from irate viewers.
September 15th, 20097:37 pm
Huh, that’s funny…but…why’s Francoeur down to one car?
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
