Wow, this is bad, Owings produces another huge RBI against the Braves and he will earn another win against them. Unbelievable how good some players are against the Braves.

They nearly got swept by the Padres and since the Reds are better than the Pads it makes sense that the Reds would be able to complete the sweep.

Good grief. How many more ways can we find to lose?

Rob–he’ll never get to his 2008 stats. His only peripheral I’m seriously concerned about is the big dropoff in his ISO. He’s walking a lot more than he ever has, and if his BABIP normalizes a little bit, he should easily get back to .290 AVG and maintain his .400 OBP. Seriously folks, his OBP is just short of .400 this year. That’s good. Really good. I see no reason why he cannot maintain that portion of his game. And if he does, he’ll still be an incredibly valuable player. His power rebound is iffy, but his SLG can reasonably be expected to be around .450 or so. He’ll be a really good player for that.

Hope Owings is ok.

But if he continues to struggle, teams will stop pitching around him and his walks will go way down. That .450 slugging is not ok if he keeps hitting third.

Vinings Jim, I was just trying to mollify Carroll. W&M got absolutely shafted out of a playoff spot last year – they’re legit, and just pulled off what we should’ve done but failed to achieve in C’ville last September.

B&tB ain’t good enough to win in Richmond, mind you, but they’re good enough to make noise along the way. CAA is gonna be brutal this year.

Rob–yeah, on Anderson/Schafer. Wasn’t aware of that.

And I thought Heyward was our new no. 3 menace? If Chipper continues to OBP .400, there’s no way we cannot have him in the lineup, plain and simple. And right now there’s no reason to think he won’t.

Bat Masterson EXCELLENT post at 4:52.

George Brett’s numbers pretty much did the same thing at the same ages. It’s time for reality to set back in. With the seemingly dropped number of players juicing up, guys will again begin to have their careers deteriorate after the age of 36 and 37.

Not saying they can’t be productive after 37. But not “14 million per year” productive, on a team with payroll issues. As far as I’m concerned Chipper will (and should) always have a spot on this team and within the organization.

But mark it down, his 14 million dollars will hinder this team from fielding a complete team (barring Schafer, Heyward and Freeman LIGHTING UP THE SKIES with their bats at the league minimum in the next two years).

Just so we’re clear. I’m not anti-Chipper Jones. I’m anti-Chipper Jones making 14 million dollars with a 100 million dollar total payroll, at the kind of production I believe he’ll provide (both with his bat and his defense).

Kawakami really didn’t even pitch that badly. The Braves get that pickoff at first and get Votta at third, he is out of the inning rather easily.

The inning before if Diaz doesn’t screw up in right, he has another rather productive inning.

“And that is why KK’s gotta go. He’s a starter, not a bullpen guy. He’s a #5 with a 4.00-plus ERA. This is what happens. . .”

KK isn’t the problem with this team, a blind man can see what the problem with this team is. 1 run first game, 1 run the second game, and two runs in extra inning ball to this point. The guy supposedly has a tired shoulder or arm and you want to pitch him out the bullpen, doesn’t make much sense to me.

The sad truth is this team was never a contender from day one…Pretenders but not contenders. They wasted a starting rotation capable of winning with a triple A outfield and a lack of intensity in the first half. And I am sure we will hear some kind os spin from FW how close we are.But truley this franchise is a long way from truly contending.I hope for the good of the franchise Bobby Cox will retire so we can rebuild without the pressure of “sending Bobby out on a high note”.

Fork, meet Braves. Braves, meet fork.
Swept by the Reds. Not the Rose-Perez-Morgan-Gullett Reds. Not the Davis-Sabo-Dibble-Browning Reds. Not even the Walker-Householder-Oester Reds.
My legitimate question is under what terms do the Braves have Garret Anderson’s contract? Because if it’s anything beyond this season, they’ve been robbed. This might be the most empty .281 batting average ever. He’s a liability in the field. He’s had few notable key hits.
He’s a complementary player, not a hired bat who can drive in runs and carry a team. And right now, I have very little complimentary to say about him — or the Braves period.

Feel bad for KK. Put in a position you aren’t use to and really feel bad for our pitching as a whole. They’ve done it all year long. If they give up 1 run they have really hurt this teams chance of winning. Shouldn’t be that way. Good pitching always gives you a chance against the good teams because they keep you in the game but on the flip side of that bad offense brings you closer to the bad teams becuase they don’t have the firepower to seperate and put away these teams. Thats the truth of the matter right there. We can compete with almost anyone. Just not good enough to put the hammer down on the lesser teams. Reds didn’t blow us out the water and neither did the phillies. Pitching kept us in every one of those games in each series but offense at the end of the day is what only got us one win between those two series. Not the name on the front of the jersey. Phillies or Reds we had a chance to win both series.

Not the guys that normally sit with their thumbs up their butts and are contributing to losses. If the problem is offense, and it is, and your two “best hitters” are choking game after game then NO fan should want to see them joking and playing pranks.
