What is MFIKY? And have the BRAVES put the fish to sleep yet?
Hope Loaf didn’t hurt himself too bad on that violent collision.
August 31st, 20099:45 pm
Land Skank Stadium is a weird name.
Anyone think we’ll make a run at Jermaine Dye before midnight tonight? I hear they are asking for Norton straight up.
Mike Hampton needs to borrow my handicap sticker…
August 31st, 20099:46 pm
From SI.COM tonight – “White Sox GM Kenny Williams called teams this afternoon to let them know a large part of their roster is available in trade, including sluggers Jermaine Dye, Paul Konerko and Jim Thome and veteran relievers Scott Linebrink and Octavio Dotel.” Not sure the Braves would do something like this, and I think the deadline is today for any players on the postseason roster, but it’s interesting……

Kurdt, did you see Loaf and the ballgirl last night? Too funny. Bit of a compromising position.
we screwed up on dye and that wainwright dude
August 31st, 20099:47 pm
KK did another impression of David in the David and Goliath impression, huh? Good pitching.
DAMN. almost cut it off
MFIKY – finish this!!
All right, MFIKY, enough di$%ing around. Put it away.
August 31st, 20099:48 pm
Come on, get one more out, jeez ~_~
So long folks! See you tomorrow!
And with that, BALL GAME!
Very good win
I did see that. He lingered a little bit longer than necessary, I think. When you’re as suave as him though, you can get away with that.
Great win Bravos!
Kawakami slays another giant!
Hammy’s gonna end-up in a bubble…
Rob from SC
What an important win. Now we need to come out focused tomorrow night as well.
Keeping It Real
Diaz could not surround the ball. At least he can hit.
August 31st, 20099:49 pm
RHR, I need your hitmans phone #. Uggla gonna sleep with da fishes tonight.
Diaz should win National League Player of the Month
This one was so hard, then so easy.
August 31st, 20099:50 pm
Come on Huddy, go above and beyond expectations tomorrow!!!
Ah, very good game, boys! SO happy for KK!
Carroll, somebody needs to do a story on what Kawakami has done against aces this year. He’s been superb, just rises to the occasion every time.
Whoever starts our clinching game of the World Series this year better pitch a complete game. Can you imagine MFIKY getting the last out? It would be the lamest celebration in history. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the guy smile.
What is MFIKY?
August 31st, 20099:51 pm
Agreed on diaz for player of the month. dude has been filthy.
3 games back
2 teams to pass
1 month left

They will make your cry and smile in a 48 hour stretch. Say what you want, this team has been resilient all year. I don’t know about the playoffs but loving September baseball with at least playoff implications.
Last three are “I kill you”. Nickname for Soriano for his sunny countenance and disposition.
Way to take care of business at LAND SKANK STADIUM. Get fired up. We want a sweep!!!!
don’t you ever compare Greg Norton to my namesake, EVER!
August 31st, 20099:53 pm
Kurdt Kobain — Either that, or have Gonzo close it out. Dude would make the miracle on ice celebration look like a golf clap.
KK is a hard worker – he has earned his money
August 31st, 20099:54 pm
Why do you do this to us Kawakami? why??? if you would pitch like this every time the braves might have an actual conflict wwith who to play.
New plan of action: Have Tim Hudson pitch as the #5 guy. Every time the braves play against a top pitcher tell Kawakami to get ready. he can pitch greatly against all of the top guys and maybe does well on short notice after watching tonight.
Is Reeeeeed around?
Did we just win a game with good pitching and clutch hitting?
The Braves never cease to confuse me.
Actually the only part of that sentence that needs verification was, “did we just get clutch hitting”?
Seriously, I really was clueless. And the first is mutha’ I assume. O.K. thanx.
Just good enough to break your heart?
I’ve known women like that whom I still remember fondly…
“Can you imagine MFIKY getting the last out? It would be the lamest celebration in history”
Gonzalez in the hand .. I’d pay to see that celebration. He’d yell and scream, jump up and down, tear off his shirt and run around the field
Norton and Tommy Gregg must be sons of Bobby Cox the two most useless ph’s ever.
August 31st, 20099:55 pm
“Kurdt Kobain — Either that, or have Gonzo close it out. Dude would make the miracle on ice celebration look like a golf clap.”
LOL oh yeah. Gonzo definitely has to close out the final game. Great analogy.
richbrave – it’s Soriano’s nickname MF….I’ll Kill You.
From the line sure looks like KK earned his pay tonight. Is it me or has KENSHIN been tightening up his game?
August 31st, 20099:56 pm
I’m starting to like Kawakami, dude looks much more comfortable now that he’s played 3/4 of a MLB season. Those 8 mill per season aint looking THAT bad anymore (I guess we can put up with him as the 4th/5th starter as long as his era is in the 3.70-3.99 range)
Has Paul Lentz posted yet today? Do you think this win has anything to do with his abscence?
True that, we won the first game of a series. Nice.
I would love to see someone get the last out and rip their shirt. That would be righteous. And if anyone would do it, its Gonzo.

Just good enough to break your heart?
The crazy ones usually are the best memories aren’t they?
August 31st, 20099:57 pm
“Ice Cold” for Dye. Sox eat part of JD’s salary. If we get him, we’ll figure out where to play him. RF belongs to MD right now – unless he is moved to CF.
August 31st, 20099:58 pm
It’s real nice…huh, when’s the last time they won the first game of a series of 3 games or more? I’m thinking July…
MFIKY, I believe you’d know.
August 31st, 20099:59 pm
What’s our record this year without Mac in the lineup?
exactly! maybe not the BEST contract on KK but we can more than put up with him as our #4-5 starter
August 31st, 200910:00 pm
jeffrey d: I believe Paul’s absence CLEARLY DEMONSTRATES a “lack of urgency” on his part. Without a “sense of urgency”, he is DEAD in the water as a Braves fan, a POKER PLAYER and a DENIZEN of his MOM’S BASEMENT.
Is Brian Jordan really contributing anything?
July 24th in Milwaukee was the last time the Braves won the first game of a series of 3 games or more.
Just having a post game snack of crow for my KK performance prediction. Not bad with B -B-Q sauce!
Wow, Cassidy Hubbarth sure is.
Even if she wasn’t pretty, at least she can talk. Holy cow listening to Brian Jordan is painful
August 31st, 200910:01 pm
egads – Dye hit .186 in August; .245 in July; .329 in June – not the trend we would like to see. Maybe they will take Norton.
Loaf on blackberry getting massage on back and shoulder because of tough hit to wall after professional catch in the bottom of the 7th
I’m going to sue Land Shark Stadium for their concrete walls. I just wanted a nice little bump and now I’ll be sore for another month.
Even the way Brian Jordan sits is awkward.
August 31st, 200910:02 pm
hahaha, “professional catch”
I don’t know. I do know that their record when BMac starts is 53-46…
You cann do the math from there. I gotta stop for this night…my left shoulder/arm is KILLING ME!!
Or I’m gonna kill it…one of the two…
Paul obviously came “into” this series WITH a “3 out of 4″ mentality.
August 31st, 200910:03 pm
Mario, I liked the contract from the beginning. I mean come on, you could be paying $12m/year on Carlos Silva.
Jim- The only White Sox vet that would be of any use to the Braves is Konerko. And thats not for this year. That would be incase Laroche doesn’t stick around. Dye has been horrible over the past month, and there wouldn’t be room as soon Church and McLouth become healthy
Norton is now 5 for 52 against RH pitching. That is .096 folks. It gets better he is slugging .115 with one double in 52 abs.
Wow just wow that BC keeps rolling him out there in big spots as his PH of choice. It is obvious that he would rather prove that he is right than to win games.
All that said – Great win tonight!
Shamus,concerning 6 man rotation,
everyday while i work(drive truck)i listen to the mlb channel on XM radio, this is not confirmed just their best guess.
Well, I wasn’t real happy when I woke up this morning and saw the loss from last night, but I can go to sleep knowing our Braves fried some fish tonight
Brian Jordan: Great guy, nice ballplayer, tough safety. Really bad baseball commentator. Best of luck in your next endeavor, big guy.
August 31st, 200910:04 pm
well the giant killer does it again, thats 5 top rotation pitchers he has beat this year.
Omar Infante on Nate Dawg's blackberry in the clubhouse
August 31st, 200910:05 pm
hey Loaf….. I ran against the wall after my awesome catch and I’m fine. Always knew you were made of glass but I still love ya man!
Kawakami getting it going and he has not been bad all season, just had the odd poor inning, but often little run support, which makes the win/loss numbers look bad.
If Hudson gets back anywhere near it makes Vazquez our main trade piece for a bat in the off season, don’t want to see him go, but he will be at the top of his value and could generate a really good return.
August 31st, 200910:06 pm
August 31st, 200910:07 pm
Katy Temple or Cassidy Hubbarth, discuss…
August 31st, 200910:08 pm
Steve McP, I know you’re right about Vazquez’ value, but I – just – don’t – know if I’m willing to part with him. He’s been absolutely awesome this year. I’d keep him, but I don’t know what else you do.
Maybe Kawakami could close? He’s very good the first time through the order.
Well done Braves. Way to bounce back… Catching my Phillies in the N.L. East is still a crack pipe dream. But the WC remains very much in play…..
August 31st, 200910:09 pm
ijonathan, Cassidy looks good walking away in the one ad. Really good.
Who else thinks of this every time you hear the name land shark stadium?
Props to those of us old enough to remember when this was a recurring skit. The rest of you idiots get off our lawns.
August 31st, 200910:10 pm
THAT’s not going to “get it done”.
That was a horrible acquisition for the Mariners, whoever the GM signed him for 48 mill after being nothing more than mediocre for the Twins oughta be shot. Seattle still owes him $25 mill in the next 3 years
August 31st, 200910:11 pm
Just 3 games back & plenty of games to play!
Hopefully the Braves avoid their crushing loss in South Florida this series. It seems like there is always one in a series down there & has been one nearly every series for the past 3-4 years.
Very well pitched game tonight by KK, very efficinet with the pitch count. Hopefully Hudson can go six strong tomorrow night.
August 31st, 200910:12 pm
I don’t know about the rest of you but I’m ready for a Cassidy Hubbarth peephole video.
Anybody got the link for that?
Never did see the old Erin Andrews video but that was because I repsect her too much as a journalist to partake in such a deviant act of vouyerism.
The fact that I’m not smart enough to have found a way to download it without getting a virus and that I wouldn’t know what to do if indeed I got a virus is irrelevant.
I’d still take Dye in a heartbeat. Something a’int right in the ChiSox clubhouse, and I think he’d do well in left. then dump norton and have loaf and church on what suddenly would look like a pretty strong bench. it seems so obvious. do it FW.
Steve from OH
Nice win tonight! Oh, and not blogging during the game was the best decision I’ve made in some time…reading the comments afterward is always funny…
A note to the Blog: I responded to the 7:11 post of Roman Gal with a complement and a question. She essentially denied her post. I have posted the entire sequence here because I believe my integrity was questioned. I do so fully understanding that female bloggers are a “protected class” on this blog.
Here follows the entire sequence.
ROMAN GAL HAS IMPLIED THAT I MANUFACTURED HER WORDS: HERE ARE THE BLOG POSTS: (UNEDITED AND IN FULL)

With the Yankees probably winning it all again…SALARY CAP discussions have to come up, as last year they missed the playoffs..and now have an entire pitching staff plus Teixeira because of money..Lets all form websites, tell our papers and teams baseball needs a SALARY CAP. now.
TO WHICH Bravesfan54 replied:
Roman Gal at 7:11 – you are so right about the salary cap! The last time the owners tried to impose one, baseball lost a season. This is the “54/40 or fight”, “give me liberty or give me death” of the union.
My question to you is this: should the owners hang tough knowing that the union will absolutely not cave in, and a strike would last more than one season only to have the president (which ever a Republican president would eventually do, too) appoint first, a baseball czar (we seem to like “czar” don’t we, has an imperial ring to, even if they don’t win drug wars, ecomomic wars, trade wars…but, I digressed) then, when the baseball czar fails (as they all do, being creatures of the executive, with no budget, no power), the president appoints a mediator, and the rabble finding rope for the few, turn the tide against ownership.
Now, I understand, as a southern boy does, that I poked a stick into the hornets nest. So Carroll needs to impose MARTIAL BLOG LAW (a la’ Cesar Chavez) and FORBID discussion of this issue.
Hey, I really and truly am a 63 year old man who followed this team since a year after they moved to Milwaukee. I swear I could ace a test on the 50/60’s teams and pass one on the 70’s, before I lost a decade to decadence.
Just bloggin’, mind you!
BUT THEN: Roman Gal answered my post:

Roman Gal at 7:11 – My question to you is this… Bravesfan54
Was that you? I didn’t write that. As for a “baseball czar”…no. Czar’s make me think of Russia and Russia creeps me out.
Roman Gal posted, I responded, then the poster denied all. I have contributed to this blog for four years without ever being accused of misrepresenting a blogger’s post. I resent Roman Gal’s doing so now!

CAREER 146 77 3.48 304 303 22
the above stats are why you have to find away to see if Huddy is Healthy .
If Hudson is fit and back to anything near then a 6 man rotation during September seems possible, especially bearing in mind we have JJJ and Hanson who are pitching more than they have in the past and KK who has some soreness issues (he pitched in a 6 man rotation in Japan), Hudson might also appreciate the extra day to recover during his comeback.
The usual complaint about a 6 man rotation is that your aces lose starts (besides losing a bench player which is not an issue in September), but in this line up we have six guys who are very good, without an obvious ace and so it might make a lot of sense in those circumstances.
Mario, we all laughed our asses off when Silva got that contract. And the Twins had just the guys to replace him. (Sadly, they’ve all become mediocre this year. )
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
